Daddy, I'm headed to Denver and Colorado Springs this week. Bro in Denver (detective) and his wife (detective-ette/different department) and their 2 kids, PLUS little bro #2, State Dept, Daughter (and my Niece) at USAF ACADEMY!!! Both bros, and their beautiful wives, and 2 kids apiece, each has a boy and a girl, and the GUS TRIO!!!!
Anywho, State Dept bro, former USAF PILOT, has a close pal, who is now flying for FED-EX.
I've told my brother about you. OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!
I'll find out about this PILOT next week.
Tour of Coors, shopping in Golden (Mrs Gus has a horse), lunch, drunkch, at Syrup. (Friend owns), dinner at bro's in Littleton.
Down to Co Springs and Hotel. Friday a.m. Lantern tour, Cave of the Winds, Train to top of PIKES PEAK, dinner at a BREWERY, and CO SPRINGS SKYSOX GAME. (Bro's friend has luxury box). Sat a.m. TAILGATE at AIR FORCE, Noon opening game FOOTBALL.

GUS

When do you slap Herve Villachez?

When he says: Gee your CABELLO smells ESTUPENDO!!!

Frau v

Pike's Peak! It's seared it my memory like the heat in late August Phoenix. When I stepped out of the funicular, I experienced instant altitude sickness. No fun! To make it worse, there was a man doing sit-ups and other unnatural things right in front of us. A snickers saved my life. I've never had that reaction before or after, but 14,000+ is nothing to laugh at.

Have a GREAT trip, GUS.

Taking up the slack for the ADN, local Channel 2 News in Anchorage is praising Lisa Murkowski to the skies for having the courage to grow lettuce in her Senate Office: A nutritional trendsetter, Sen. Murkowski growing lettuce on Capitol Hill

The story is mindnumbingly stupid:

She is a nutritional trendsetter on Capitol Hill.

“We can be growing lettuce year-round in a Senate office,” said Murkowski.

“I was talking to a young child once who didn’t realize that a banana was yellow because the only kinds of banana she ever saw were brown,” said Murkowski.)

But I have to give kudos to the commenters:

Lonely One:

Murkowski is more Evil than her father!!!

44WinMag:

RINO Abortionist grows lettuce is now news? Fake News propaganda!

MT907:

Too bad she's too busy growing lettuce to keep her word and repeal Obamacare....

desert deserter:

Murkowski, lettuce alone. Your the weed in our garden.

So she can't pass any Bills, or Repeal any horrible Legislation, or cut Taxes, or take the hold off of President Trump's nominees, but she has learned how to grow lettuce in her Senate Office. Geebus.

I'm embarrassed to be represented by this moron. Ughh:(

GUS,

Sounds like you'll be having a great road trip, and 'Hey' to the Fedex boy if you meet him.

Maybe I've missed it but the amount of White House leaks seems to have dropped off to zero. I don't think we had any pre-leak of either the pardoning of Sheriff Arpaio or of Gorka's leave taking. Kudos to whoever is responsible for that, probably General Kelly, but it really does seem that once Reince Priebus was booted out the leaks immediately went to zero. Great.

daddy

McCain says in a statement that "no one is above the law" and "sworn law officers should always seek to be beyond reproach in their commitment to fairly enforcing the laws they swore to uphold."

By pardoning Arpaio, McCain says it undermines Trump's claim for the respect of rule of law.

He also says Arpaio has shown no remorse for his actions.

C'mon, bloodclot!

JimNorCal

Two thumbs WAY up on the pardon of Sheriff Joe.

McCain sits in his solitude waiting for a chance to say anything, anything at all, to spite his enemy Trump. His tumor would *have* to be malignant, a benign tumor wouldn't dare take up residence in his cranium.

Well this Washington Examiner story sounds interesting: Critics fear Dana Rohrabacher creating WikiLeaks back channel to Trump

2 points stand out to me in this story of Dana Rohrbacher having a 3 hour meeting with Julian Assange recently, and now heading to DC to personally brief Trump.

1) Rorhbacher: "I would not talk on the telephone" with the president about the three-hour conversation.

Smart. We're learning. Tell him in person because lord knows we can't trust Trump not to be electronically surveilled 24/7.

2) The amount of critics exercised about this.

Critics of Trump, meanwhile, have unloaded on Rohrabacher's suggestion that he will consult Trump with nonpublic information... "There is absolutely no conceivable or legitimate reason to have a back channel with WikiLeaks, and certainly not one extending to the president of the United States," Price told the Examiner. "If we want the perspective of Russia's intelligence services, we should allow the CIA to be the primary conduit."

Why?

Sure sounds to me like some folks are getting unnecessarily hot and bothered about all this, but remind me again why it is we ought to place such monumental trust in the CIA or the FBI regarding any of this in the first place? They have illegally leaked to the Media more times than any of us can count, and always to the hard Left anti-Trump Media outlets. They have unmasked who knows how many Americans illegally, and have in effect declared war on Trump in pushing this Russia Collusion meme. I don't trust any of them I can name---not Brennen, not Clapper, not Comey, and recent history tells us we'd be nuts to trust any of them.

So I have no idea what Rohrbacher might have from Wikileaks, if anything, but I'm glad to see "critics" so exercised about it.

(Rohrbacher) told the Daily Caller that Assange may deserve a pardon for the information he has, and told the Orange County Register the content was "earth-shattering." He declined to tell the Examiner if he was given physical files to hand over, but implied he had not.

Maga!

cboldt

On Arpaio, I wish Trump would have waited, but that assumes the sheriff wasn't under any stress waiting for the judicial process to play out. I would have waited for two reasons, neither of which is "abide by DoJ practices."

One reason is simple curiosity. What sentence was the ridiculous court going to hand down? The other reason is let the judge waste more time.

That said, I'm not bothered by the timing. From an "external" point of view, Trump was going to get heat no matter when he did it, and "now" may have benefit of getting inside Mueller's head.

Jack is Back!

Cboldt,

Point 2? Exactly.

Up and at em for first multi team practice at Riverhead. Head out in 1/2,hour. Frederick is psyched to finally play a game.

Go Monarchs!

Barbara

The President took a burden off of an 85 year old man who has served his country faithfully. No longer will Sheriff Arpaio have to worry about the next court date, or the legal bills piling up to pay for his defense.

President Trump did a brave and appropriate thing in pardoning the Sheriff, and I applaud him. Can anyone imagine McConnell or Ryan having the political courage to do this? Neither can I.

James D.

Barbara, it wouldn't even be a question of courage with Ryan or McTurtle. They'd be happy to see Arapio rot away and die in jail, both as punishment for opposing open borders, and as a warning to conservatives who dare to demand they actually honor their promises and do their jobs.

cboldt

Barbara - another thing about this pardon has to do with the oddity that is "criminal contempt." Arpaio didn't violate any criminal statute passed by a legislature, he violated a court order. The court played the part of the legislative branch in order to get Arpaio to be under jeopardy.

Plus there was the politicization and weaponization of the US Attorney's office, and the pardon shut that down too.

cboldt

Another pattern, particular to the Arpaio case. At bottom, his violation was enforcement of the law. The court ordered Arpaio to NOT enforce the law.

hoyden

"An excellent Dennis Prager column ..."
This is an excellent fisking of typical Leftist media.

cboldt

Another thing about criminal contempt ... " Although Justice Department attorneys are prosecuting the case, the official charge is leveled by the court."

Criminal contempt breaks the usual separation of powers paradigm. The court makes the law, enforces the law, and judges the accused.

WaPo claims, " ... in a trial that was prosecuted by the president’s own Justice Department." Misleading. The charge was leveled by the court in 2016, and adopted by Obama's DOJ. Once started, the legal process continues without regard for election results.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I would also like to point out that Sheriff Joe's wife has been battling cancer.

Compassionate pardons are not without precedent.

Flake proves again that his hatred of Trump overrides his common sense and political skills.

This is the problem I have with some of the conservatives. Ryan suffers from the same malady. They appear to be nothing more than bean-counters and don't exhibit any evidence of compassion.

Thank you @realdonaldtrump for seeing my conviction for what it is: a political witch hunt by holdovers in the Obama justice department!

Captain Hate

This is the problem I have with some of the conservatives.

I'm having problems with calling any of the anti Trumps "conservatives" because what they are doing flies in the face of small government adherence to the Constitution. Trump has governed more conservatively than any president since Reagan; I don't think that's a controversial statement. Levin has championed almost everything he does and is quick to point out how unconservative everything the RINOs do to obstruct him.

Captain Hate

I've said all along that Brennan should be hung by the neck for treason. And we should immediately cease all interactions with Brit intelligence.

Captain Hate,

I agree about Brennan. I got a creepy vibe from him when he was first appointed by Obama. When I learned his background, I was horrified.

Glad to see we were right and I hope he is charged and convicted of something.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I am interested in President Trump being at Camp David. It's not a place he frequents, preferring one of his own places like Bedminster.

However, if I remember correctly it is run by the military, and access to it is not particularly visible. The Washington press doesn't follow to Maryland. They usually just accept that the President is in seclusion and hit the watering holes in DC for the weekend.

If I wanted to meet with someone without media speculation, Camp David is where I would go. Therefore, I conclude something is up.

Jack is Back!

To see the following frog-marched in front of a world-wide audience would warm the cockles of my heart:

John Brennan, confessed communist and convert to Islam.

Ben Rhodes, outside of Brennan tops the list for treason and snarkiness.

Susan Rice, for her conspicuous lying and deception against America.

Samantha Power, for being the most butt ugly UN rep ever plus treason.

James Clapper, for lying, stumbling and over doing his Mr. Magoo schtick.

Josh Earnest, just for being who he is.

Captain Hate

Camp David is out in the sticks in Maryland past Frederick on the Catoctin Mountain. I've been camping by there before, further up the mountain from Camp David. It's very secure.

Why Trump Can't Pardon Arpaio, at the Failing NYT, has been given a new and improved title, "A Pardon for Arpaio Would Put Trump in Uncharted Territory."

No terriers shed. Airedales aren't for everyone though; the breeder I got Teddy from has urged some people toward Goldens and other more sedate breeds. Plus Teddy got into it with a Mastiff nearly three times his size and two other dogs who attacked him at a dog park; it was mostly posturing on defining the pecking order but he takes no shit from other dogs but then will roll on his back to let little dogs roughhouse with him. For some reason he doesn't like Huskies.

I've given up on describing the bodacious trim who become enamored with him but there were two recent examples who were just stunning who had very cute Rott and King Charles Spaniel pups. I saw a Gordon Setter at a dog park a while back; if anything they've rarer than Airedale sightings but very attractive dogs.

Captain Hate,

When Maggie was young I took her to several rounds of group training with an excellent dog trainer. There were all sorts of dogs in the class with a variety of personalities and problems. (Maggie was too bossy of me and I needed to learn to be firm with her, for example.) We had dogs who were too timid in public, ones who pretended to be deaf, etc.

Anyway, one of my favorites was the Mastiff. They wee originally bred as home guard dogs adn their charactier is to mostly lie around but attack with short bursts of speed and ferocity if needed. Mostly they are actually pretty gentle dogs who lie around a lot.

If Mastiffs weren't expensive one would be my next dog.

King Charles spaniels survive by having excessive cuteness genes which attract ladies to the breed.

I also gained an appreciation for Chihuahuas, which I had always thought of as little ratty dogs, but one gal had one as a helper dog for an emotional problem (he even had an official jacket to identify him) and he was a real trooper. Very smart and loving.

BYRON YORK: Trump dossier mystery deepens.

https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/273870/

"“The reason it is not at all believable that a Republican was behind it is, nobody used [any information] from it,” Rubio campaign manager Terry Sullivan told me. “Everybody was pretty damn desperate at the end. If someone had a kitchen sink, they would have thrown it.”

My friend thought there might be some semantics involved. “The phrase ‘wealthy Republican donor’ doesn’t necessarily have to denote a Republican,” he wrote in an email exchange. “It could refer to a Democrat who has also made occasional donations to Republicans, especially if the source of the info is trying to mislead without technically lying.”"

Feeding them can't be cheap. Teddy has played well with a few Mastiffs (they are more frequently encountered than they used to be) but they are so large he's always on full alert and if it's a male that hasn't been nutted almost always one will try to show dominance with varying levels of reaction.

I'm glad you had a trainer that taught you how to get control of Maggie. Trainers who use only positive reinforcement are not good for terriers who need to be told No. Teddy's been the best behaved dog I've raised from a pup other than I can't be completely secure walking him off leash.

The pre-storm hysteria was so overwhelming that I couldn't even decipher between what was expected to happen & what was actually happening.

Same here, Janet, and I'm in Texas.

Looking at the radar, the storm hasn't moved very far, but it does seem to have weakened. It finally started raining here in Austin about midnight, but in a normal hurricane the rain would have gotten here much sooner after landfall. So the stall-out seems to be happening as predicted.

Since flooding is going to be a big worry if the storm continues to sit on top of south Texas, I guess that's why the feds declared the emergency sooner rather than later. In a normal hurricane you would mainly have cleanup afterwards, but in this case no one knows when the "afterwards" will start. The evacuees may not be able to go home for a while if at all.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I once bumped into a couple with a brace of mastiffs. Can't remember the figure on monthly food costs but it would have financed a pretty decent car.

My understanding of the dossier is that the GOP folks abandoned it, before the effort had produced information. They can't use what they don't have.

The claim is that some wealthy republican got the ball rolling, not that they stayed in until the report was completed.

I bought Maggie ecause I wanted a good watchdog (which she is - her breed is very territorial) BUT becaue they were red as farm working dogs for herding livestock including both cattle and geese as well as sheep, they are "managers" and very bossy.

Before I took her to training it had gotten so bad that I was shutting her out of my office. I still have an old pair of tennis shoes for yard work which have chunks of the heels bitten out by her grabbing me. I also still have scars on my forearms where she npped me in an effort to get me to do what she wanted. I seriously thought I was going to have to give her away.

What I learned is to use simple and firm commands instead of explaining what I wanted her to do, a fault my daughter still has with her dogs. A firm downpull on the chain collar with a deep "NO" was all it really took.

I will be forever grateful to that guy. And you are right: positive training dows NOT work except for laid-back, non-aggressive dogs, of which English shepherds are NOT.

 narciso.

This list of flood alerts for the Austin area suggests we will have significant flooding in low-lying river areas because the storm isn't expected to dissipate until Tuesday.

If that happens in the Austin area on the outskirts of the storm, then the flooding in Corpus, Houston, San Antonio and all the areas in between will be epic. :(
