Barbara

First? Well how about that :)

Barbara

I guess that everyone is exhausted, and have wisely retired for the night.

I haven't posted much today, but I did want to say to TexasLibertyGal and everyone in Texas to stay safe.

Jane,

I hope that you are feeling better and have a great cruise.

Momto2,

It was great to hear from you, and I'm glad that you are doing better!

Maryrose,

Keep up keeping our spirits up. Love your comments!

OL,

We're deep in enemy territory, too. I have a nephew in Texas, so maybe we can bunk with him when it all comes falling down.

Good night, all! God bless!

I have suggested to TM on twitter that we have a Game of Thrones thread on Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully our host was already thinking in that direction; should make for an interesting discussion prior to the season finale.

Mayweather, and most black people it seems, are way too confident about this "event" involving a 40-year-old vs a guy 11 years his junior.

Floyd doesn't excite, McGregor does. But I'm scared of the wrestling element: play the audience for a three-fer. McGregor wins, Floyd wins, final rubber match. I'm not interested in any of that.

More good publicity for ESPN: ESPN Radio host arrested for criminal entry in Wyoming

...Russillo, the 42-year-old host of ESPN Radio’s “The Ryen Russillo Show,”...appeared intoxicated and virtually naked in a stranger’s condominium around 3:30 a.m. local time Wednesday.

“Officers found the defendant, later identified as Ryen August Russillo, lying on the bed in the south bedroom naked except for his pants around his ankles,” a probable cause affidavit obtained by the News & Guide said.

A condo resident reportedly told police that he assumed a family member had entered the premises before Russillo walked into the bedroom with his pants down.

Is there still no such thing as bad publicity?

...Russillo, who lives in West Hartford, Connecticut “...was obviously intoxicated... he couldn’t coherently answer any questions.”

Sounds like a Yankee fan. Wonder if TM knows him?

On the last thread, there was a great link to a story about the absurdity of the modern U.S. campus:

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2017/08/safe-spaces-and-ze-badges-my-bewildering-year-at-a-us-university/

But some of the comments are really disheartening - because they're so true:

Universities may not be preparing the snowflakes for the "real" world, but that's getting less and less important. There are plenty of places these graduates can go for gainful employment where they'll be surrounded by like-minded people: non-profits, NGOs, foundations, the government, HR, academia, diversity trainers, gender equality trainers, charitable organizations. It's a system that feeds on itself.

Byron York on Twitter says that he was in New Orleans two weeks ago during a mini-flood and the pumps didn't work. But they had money to remove statues, showing their priorities.

daddy

Morning, Miss Marple.

3 points stand out to me in this Byron York piece: Byron York: Trump dossier mystery deepens

1) "The reason it is not at all believable that a Republican was behind it is, nobody used [any information] from it," Rubio campaign manager Terry Sullivan told me. "Everybody was pretty damn desperate at the end. If someone had a kitchen sink, they would have thrown it."

2) it's worth looking at which news organizations Fusion chose to tell about the dossier in the weeks before last year's presidential election---the New York Times, the Washington Post, Yahoo News, the New Yorker, and CNN...and Mother Jones.

3) it's not clear how many people, other than Glenn Simpson himself, know who originally funded the dossier project. And now Simpson has officially refused to tell Senate investigators who it was. If the Judiciary Committee votes to make the transcript public, we'll know more about what Simpson said. But we still won't know the origin of the dossier.
------------------------
Delay, lie, and obfuscate continues. G'nite.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

daddy,

Good points. You've gone to bed so maybe you will see this later.

I am convinced that Rick Wilson had a hand in it. I am not sure Jeb knew anything about it nor, for that matter, Rubio. (Wilson is from Florida.)

Wilson was particularly vile about both Trump and his supporters. He kept predicting something BIG would come out. Hinted at "inside information" and so forth.

He seemed to have a personal axe to grind with Trump. Wilson bills himself as a media consultant for the GOP and I suspect he saw his chance for income drying up with the rise of Trump.

He's now on CNN which figures.

Rubio's campaign manager, however, seems to be protesting a little too much. I would bet he knows Wilson funded part of it, in an effort to both take Trump out and make himself a hero to Jeb and Rubio.

MY favorite paragraph:

But the thing is, now we're woke, and we’ve realized that our establishment sucks, and that we’re tired of being the suckees. They didn't listen to us when we gave them the Tea Party, so now we gave them Trump. And they're very, very upset with us. That's a key reason they want to undercut Trump. Some people are just always going to want to trash the guy getting the attention and wielding the influence they think rightfully belongs to them. That's true whether they are some donkey–looking senator from Arizona or Nebraska pimping a book about his agonizing moral struggles, or some tiresome op-ed scribbler serving as the domesticated house conservative on a failing liberal rag, or the invasion-happy beneficiary of his parents' success who finds he can't fill the cabins on his brochure’s cruises anymore.

OL: has an entirely different concept of political momentum

You are right, OL. Trump is not dogmatic. And rather than label him “pragmatic”, we should probably recognize that he really does think about all sides of a problem.

Perhaps his followers and his critics should, too.

Trump also practices feedback-loop politics: evaluating results and deciding whether a plan should be modified to work better.

Trump is both principle and process oriented. And so am I.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

TK,

My favorite examples of this are from back in the 90's and 2000.

OL Happy to hear you are 100% satisfied with how things are going in the Swamp

Yer funny! That’s why, if we have to resort to the Ledge, you’ll be great company!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

My theory on this is that you want to know every detail because you are used to being in charge. I, on the other hand, am used to being simply supporting cast. Therefore, I do not fall prey to doubts, because I am used to not being told everything.

Once again, I recommend people read Trump's books. Art of the Deal and Art of the Comeback are both important. It also helps to watch old interviews to look at his thinking.

He is not operating the way other politicians do. No one has ever tied trade to national security the way he is doing. No one has ever aggressively criticized the press. His appointments were unusual but have turned out to be pretty much spot on, except POSSIBLY Sessions, but the jury is still out on that because there is a possibility that Sessions is working behind the scenes.

Would I like things to move more quickly? Yes. The fact that they aren't is directly tied to Congress. I imagine that Trump is currently looking at what leverage he has on McConnell and Ryan. He's obviously wiling to call them out, which is why people like Rove are wringing their hands and carrying on like he's touched some third rail.

I saw that Trump is going to be on the road next week outlining his tax plan. I think that's good, as it's easy for people to understand and puts him on the side of helping the taxpayer.

Hang in there.

Regarding Rove:

If you guys remember, he left GWB's administration about a year before it ended and published a book. I bought the book, thinking it would be interesting.

What it was was 300 pages of boring inside baseball about demographics, polls, blah blah and apparently was really a large resume to get more clients. For example, he hardly covered the recount in Florida at all.

If you will remember, he got his start being a gopher for Lee Atwater. Since Atwater was dead by the time the book was written, there was no one to contradict the supposed conversations he recounts with Atwater.

He happened to get to know Bush 43 while working for Atwater. So, by clever positioning, he managed to associate himself with Bush when he ran for governor. He recognized that Bush was a "natural" politician, in that he had an easy relationship with all sorts of people. (This was one thing I spotted about Bush watching C-SPAN; he spoke to all sorts of people the same way. No condescension.)

Anyway, I don't think Rove had much to do with Bush winning. Bush was the most likeable candidate in both his presidential runs, and in fact, the closeness of 2000 could be chalked up to Rove's incompetence.

Rove obviously isn't that smart, because of his recommendations while he was in the White House. I really think Bush 43 had soured on him by the time they parted ways.

I also think he was advising Mike Castle (although not publicly) due to Castle being a friend of Bush 41 and Rove having this reputation as some sort of political genius (totally undeserved).

I have no proof, but it would explain his 2-day rant against Christine O'Donnell when she beat Castle. It was a terrible thing to do to a Senate primary winner of his own party.

You will notice Rove hasn't had much success since then. His PAC backed Jeb, for example.

I think that is why he took the job with Fox; he needed a source of steady income.
