Anyone else watching the Frog and Pony Show on ESPN U? Surprisingly SMU is up at the moment.

henry

Watching what? I put new gutters, on my barn. (Well, I helped move scaffolding around). The joys of home ownership.

henry

Opening day bow season too.

Old Lurker

Marlene "MM, the internships are unpaid, and we sent grocery money so she wouldn't starve."

Mainer Pikers you are Marlene! Hell, YL2 is an MD in her second year of Residency and I have to pay her rent so she can be close to the hospital in a "safe" building.

DrJ

Michigan 29, Air Force 13.

It was a lot closer than it sounds. Either Air Force is very good (possible!) or Michigan was terribly flat today.

 narciso.

My neighbor is a Notre dame alum.

Appalled

My twitter feeds reports that Trump won't be pulling us out of the Paris accord after all. President WTF strikes again, or maybe it's just Ivanka.

GUS

DrJ, I went to Air Force's opener 2 weeks ago, (my Niece is a Cadet).
Air Force won 62-0.

Neo

British police have detained an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the bombing attack on the London underground.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I see the next controversy will be this:

https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/trump-administration-wont-withdraw-from-paris-climate-deal-1505593922

1. This is what the EU guy says.
2. As interpreted by the WSJ.
3. No comment from the White House (according to WSJ).
4. If you read to the bottom it seems this is a formality, as we are still not going to abide by the carbon reduction requirements, so, as the article itself states, it's a pyrrhic victory.

"Still, Washington’s move may prove a pyrrhic victory for Paris Agreement champions. The U.S. is expected to significantly reduce its ambition to curb greenhouse-gas emissions, which would be in line with Mr. Trump’s goal of clinching “fairer terms,” the official said."

5. I find it interesting that this is NOT behind the paywall, and it was released on Saturday when President Trump is in Bedminster preparing for the UN meetings and the staff is scattered for the weekend.

The usual suspects are starting the headline screaming on Twitter.

This is a determined effort to undermine his base. First the DACA controversy and now this. I am not thinking it is a coincidence.

clara

Have survived 5 days w/out power. House intact--lots of limbs, etc. down but no damage.
St. Simons and Sea Island near us still do not have water in some places and getting back on the islands is iffy. Our second hurricane of the season and all I can report is candlelit dinners and boredom and lots of reading by flashlight. It's amazing to me how accustomed one gets to having power. What would I do in the olden days of doing everything by candlelight?

GUS

Gators vs Vols. Halftime score...9

Old Lurker

Clara "What would I do in the olden days of doing everything by candlelight?"

You know the joke about the kid speaking to his grandfather in some future year after the Progs get full control of everything? "Grandpa, what did we use to see at night before they invented candles?" Grandpa: "Electricity".

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Appalled,

See my post above, where I explain.

The headlines are the usual crap that happens with one of these efforts to get everyone all upset.

He must have had a bump in poll numbers from his visit to Florida.

Appalled

And now I see the administration's denial. Wonder why the EU guy was pushing a story like this.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

The EU guy is making mischief, just like Pelosi and Schumer were.

Once again, the Wall Street Journal is not Trump's friend. Why didn't they get the denial before writing the story? Who did they call, some deputy undersecretary who didn't know anything about it so didn't want to comment? Probably.

GUS

Daddy, before MARXISTS created the toilet paper shortage, what did they wipe their ARSE'S with.

Son, it was known as the CONSTITUTION.

Old Lurker

Unexpected.

I read my wife the comments from the NYC Meetup last night, thinking she would think that was "nice" (she has met a number of you reprobates).

To my surprise she got angry with me for not telling her about it before it happened so she could have nagged me to go. As she said: JetBlue to JFK. Party. One night at the MO. JetBlue back in time to join her at the beach this afternoon.

She said something like "get off your G'dam Ledge and go have fun with your friends!"

Now I am sad!

Clarice Feldman

MM, wh denies the eU report:http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/09/16/eu-officials-says-us-wont-reject-paris-climate-treaty-but-white-house-denies-statement.html

Old Lurker

You smart lady, Maryrose. All you women stick together, huh?

Captain Hate

She said something like "get off your G'dam Ledge and go have fun with your friends!"

Sometimes you really show that you're a Hoo. Fly up the day before Thanksgiving and have some fun.

Old Lurker

Might just, Cap'n. From DC, it is an easy Acela.

Captain Hate

On topic: I was listening to sports talk yesterday and a lot of them were talking about how Army getting 33 from tOSU was free money because Army running the triple option so well makes the game clock spin like a top and unless the Buckeyes score a touchdown in every possession, there might not be enough of an opportunity. When I tuned into the game the Buckeyes were up 14-0 but then Army stopped them and now their offense is grinding their way down the field and have used up more than half of the quarter

clara

maryrose, How old are you? I find it hard to believe that with your naivete you are a middle-aged person. I know you are not a teen-ager as you have older children. Amazing to me.

Appalled

Maryrose: tell ol I am sorry about bloodying up his nose and spitting on his baseball last time we played and I will promise to be nicer next time.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Clalrice,

Thanks!

One would think that the WSJ would have waited to get a firm quote before running the story. HAHAHAHA!

Our clue is it was accessible and not behind the Paywall.

Chitown Lurker concurs with me that this is of a piece with the dACA controversy of last week and the confusion sown by the press.

I will quote him:

"Twice is a coincidence. Three times is enemy action."

THIS is why you have to check with the White House and NOT believe anyone in the press, even outlets which used to be seen as friendly. WSJ is example number one of this.

Just saw Paul Bedard on Fox making a big deal about Bannon's accusation against the Catholic Church, which almost every lay Catholic knows is true. The Church gets BILLIONS for immigrant aid (and it's not restricted to legal immigrants).

Obvious attempt to virtue signal and discredit Bannon. I will give that a .25 on the way to Chitown Lurker's 3.

Captain Hate

Old Lurker

Clarice "OL, look at the bright side--when you're a geezer and there's no medical care available you'll have your own in house doctor."

Funny you mention that, Clarice. The running family joke is that we are spending all this money on YL2 so that she can care for us in our old age. In August there were a few days when all of YL1's family was here, and YL2 and her new guy came over from Boston for the weekend. So we are out walking with the clan around our little village here, grandkids in strollers, dogs on leashes - a real Norman Rockwell picture if there ever was one - and we got to the little chapel in the village center. We went inside so YL2 could show that poor guy where YL2 planned to be married (girls are all alike, but I digress). We left the chapel through the back so Mrs. OL and I could show the girls where in the garden wall we had made arrangements for our ashes in that distant date in the future. The YL's looked solemnly at our pick, looked around at the trees and flowers, then YL2 whispered to YL1 that she now knew exactly how she planned to care for us if we ever called in that IOU.

Thanks, JMH and Michael. Really, most of you say it well and I read it and have nothing more to add. I lurked here daily for years but not as much during the horrid Obama years. Then I came back a few months before the 2016 election and what a relief! A merry band of brothers and sisters who supported Donald Trump. What a life saver!

I've been trying to get the whole gang together for a few years now. If y'all ever want to try for one, I have a few houses in mind in the Reynolds Plantation area that will sleep 35-40. Also in Jack's area down near St Augustine and in the Orlando area.

Atlanta is ideal cause as they say, you have to pass through Hartsfield Jackson to get to anywhere. Although anywhere in FL can be had for a pittance most of the time on SW or JetBlue.

JimNorCal

Followed a link on PowerLine to a VDH YouTube. That in turn popped up this Thomas Sowell piece. Do we have experts on the history of slavery? Some of the assertions in this I know to be true. A few are true but arguably weasel worded.

Are there any that are not true?

About that arrested 18 year old that Trump was criticized about for saying Scotland Yard was aware of---'Refugee foster boy', 18, arrested at Dover port over Parsons Green bucket bomb 'was first held by police two weeks ago but freed' as detectives raid home of the caring pensioner couple who took him in

The suspected Parsons Green bomber was a 'problematic foster child' who was allegedly arrested two weeks ago near to where the attack took place before being freed.

Serena Barber, 47, who has known the couple all her life and lives in a property backing on to theirs, said: 'They have two boys at the moment, both are foreign. One is very quiet and polite, the other who is 18 is awful...

How odd that after the explosion on the Train the "refugee" foreign child was apparently was intent on fleeing the country.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd described arrest of the 18-year-old at 7.50am in the Dover port departure lounge...

...One witness said the man was arrested in the ticket office at the port.
She told The Sunday Mirror: 'He was surrounded by about seven police officers as he went to buy a ticket...

Anybody surprised?

How nice. #BLM protesting in the suburbs. West County Mall is two miles from where I grew up. Took guitar lessons at the Ludwig store there, junked guitar and bought my first bass there.

maryrose

Gus:
That is really disgusting.
We just want to live our lives in peace and go to a concert.
Their protesting is not going to change the verdict.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Michael,

That story seems to have disappeared in my Twitter feed. I just spent 10 minutes scrolling down to see if they had changed it, and no links were to be seen.

There are various comments that they were punked, or that the reporter didn't really check with the White House.

I surmise it will disappear by tomorrow.

As I said, before believing any stories which indicate that Trump is caving or going back on his word. it's best to see what the White House says.

maryrose

Why would a foster child of 18 years old still be in a foster home.
When do they go out on their own?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Michael,

Thanks for the belated birthday greetings!

I spent all year thinking I was coming up on 70, but am only 69, which cheered me right up! HA!

Ralph L

My mother was 6 months younger than the Queen, but I'm decades younger and Jane and Miss Marple.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Ralph L.,

"Younger" would have been sufficient. "Decades younger" are fighting words, buster.

MM, just tell him you're keeping a log....

Wouldn't it be fun to get about 40 JOMers together?
It cost us about 135 dollars to fly to Atlanta from Cleveland.
Could a fellow JOM person pick some of us up at the airport?
My job ends on February 2nd.
Sometime in February we will be going to Punta Gorda for for a brief stay with friends there.
The spring is good for me.
Or Washington DC is a 6 to 7 hour drive for some Ohio people and less for those in Southern Ohio.

The Summer after freshman year (1979), I got a temporary Snivel Service job as clerk/typist with the Economic Regulatory Administration, the part of DoE that caused the gas crunch of that summer with price controls and emergency allocation rules. Made me a free market conservative.

Why would a foster child of 18 years old still be in a foster home.

Maryrose, I'd also bet dollars to donuts he wasn't 18.

'WE MUST NOT BE NAIVE' As third load of ‘child refugees’ arrives from Calais as official figures reveal TWO THIRDS of those who had ages assessed were found to be adults

...more than two-thirds of them who had their ages assessed by the Home Office were found to actually be adults, official figures show...

"When I was in the camp in Calais there were caravans with notices on saying 'Come here, we will coach you in what to say to get into the UK'."...

Of the 933 who were recorded as having an age assessment, 636 (68%) were deemed to be over 18.

Anybody surprised? Anybody?

Ralph L

I meant Jane and MM combined, don't be so touchy!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I could come to a large JOM meetup if I could coerce my son into driving.

Or my grandson, whom daddy and Chitown Lurker met and would be an excellent traveling companion.

I need dates as I have to be saving money.

Ralph L

maryrose

Ralph:
Is that freshman year of high school or college?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Ralph,

OK.

I am going to be keeping an eye on you, though.

Ralph L

How do they do that accurate an age assessment?

Ralph L

Elementary, Maryrose, I'm very precocious.

College. rse and I were a year apart in a small college, but I wouldn't know her from Adam (unless she were naked).

Stephanie Deplorable Beeotch

There are many JOMers that could do airport pickups.

And several who we would probably NOT need to coax to cook. :)

I'm up for early November or early March. The house rental would run about $1700 a night but divided by 30ish people... would run about $100 for 2 nights per person.

It's the alcohol tab I'm worried about. ;)

daddy

How do they do that accurate an age assessment?

Apparently Dental X-Rays play a part, so naturally there is a Leftwing political push to outlaw Dental X-Rays:

MPs have called to tooth testing to determine the age of the refugees arriving the UK..."Someone who is willing to throw themselves on to an electrified rail line or jump into a moving lorry isn't going to be terribly worried about having an X-ray...”

But

The Monmouth MP has been condemned by the British Dental Association, who said demands for testing on those heading to Britain from the Jungle refugee camp were "inappropriate and unethical".

"We are vigorously opposed to the use of dental X-rays to determine whether asylum seekers have reached 18,” a spokesman said.

"It's not only an inaccurate method for assessing age, but it is both inappropriate and unethical to take radiographs of people when there is no health benefit for them.

"X-rays taken for a clinically justified reason must not be used for another purpose without the patient's informed consent, without coercion and in full knowledge of how the radiograph will be used and by whom."

The Left over there is as insane and duplicitous as the Left over here.

If you need a place to cool off, let me know.

James D.

I loved the pictures and reports from the NYC meetup. Wish I could have been there!

GUS

Ralph, an accurate assessment of age would include, how many packs of cigs a day, the person smokes, how many wives he has, and if things get hinky, cutting off a limb, and counting the rings.
What MORONIC form of government allows people in, without knowing WHO they are.

henry

Jane, have gas supplies arrived? That was my brother's biggest issue once power came back on.

maryrose

March works for me as well.
What a finish!
Congrats RG !
I almost had a heart attack watching it.

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

Ralph that is not physically possible.

Stephanie Deplorable Beeotch

I think March is more doable for planning purposes, but we would need to get a potential headcount.

I have no druthers on either location. March should be out of the snow zone for the ATL and of course FL is out of the snow zone and it won't be hurricane season yet, either. ATL is more centrally located for the drivers coming down from the north. And of course the airport in the ATL is reachable from anywhere.
