College football. Even more corrupt that the pros! Psst! Kid! I found these Camaro keys on the floor. Are they yours?

Rick Pitino being fired was a shocker.
How the mighty have fallen.
Seems like more basketball scandals on the college level.

Is there any way to read Adam Silver's announcement to the NBA that we WILL be standing for the National Anthem, except that its "take your protest to your own time, we are not going to take the beating the NFL just did?"

henry

If it's an institution, the left has infiltrated and corrupted it.

That aside, Harvard 0, Yale 0 in the beautiful game in New Haven.

Rick Pitino has been a known cancer and really should have been run out of the college coaching ranks long before now.

DebinGA

Unlike the NFL which has a "policy" re anthem behavior, the NBA has an official rule:

"Players, coaches, and trainers are to stand and line up in a dignified posture along the sidelines or on the foul line during the playing of the National Anthem"

Its immaterial if the NFL or NBA or MLB have policies on the anthem. Its US Code for God's sake. You don't those con job organizations to set standards. We have through legislation in 1942.

Stand, face the flag and place your hand over your heart. Special rules for military and ex military.

Stop all this crap about sports org rules. It doesn't override US code.

If Brian Bowen cant play due to accepting payment to play ( word is his last minute stunning move to Louisville is the reason Pitino is suspended without pay ), Louisville aint going anywhere fast. But I think for all of the hooker party nonsense previously, they are already ineligible for the post season.

mockmook

JiB,

I personally don't have a problem with the intent in that law (hell is paved with those, no?), but a law telling you you must stand with your hand on your heart is likely unconstitutional (were someone to be so stupid as to try to enforce it).

Anyway, fittingly, the law has no penalty.

mookmock,

not the purpose of the post. Only to point out you don't need a separate rule unless, of course, your members are ignorant of US code and law.

Jack is Back!

Deb,

Because there is no penalty. Its a recommendation and honor or etiquette but is memoralize in Code. NFL, NBA and others are not. I don't care if they want to make total asses of themselves. My point is the leagues don't need a rule. There is already one.

Texas Liberty Gal

Threadkiller

From the Code link:

(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;

Deb, does that "should" mean, in your interpretation, that it is an option for those in uniform?

DebinGA

I don't know what the official "rule books" of the various military services are, but I imagine anthem response is clearly spelled out with no wiggle room.

Threadkiller

But US code allows wiggle room?

cathyf

Yes, the band DOES always win. This is the first time in my memory that the losers at NBCSports have televised the flag ceremony (Ara Parseghian's widow), America the Beautiful accompanied by the Preamble to the Constitution, and then The Star Spangled Banner panning over the students standing with hands over heart & singing.

The NFL made the choice to utilize The National Anthem as a quasi-invocation to herald the start of their padded gladiator sports.

The Anthem came with a list of things you should do. The NFL bazillonaires don't want to do them.

The question somehow has become "should they be forced to respect The Anthem properly?" When it really should be "should the NFL have picked a different song?"

You don't want to do it correctly? Fine, start your children's game with Highway to Hell or Crazy Train.

As far as using "must." How about "people who should know what they should be doing during The Anthem must be made ashamed should they choose to do something they shouldn't be doing during a song the NFL must have chosen for a reason.

Back to my grind.

Just catching up to the threads and saw this from MM 2 threads back about Trumps tweets:

My tweet at 6:13 is exactly correct. Geraldo has been on a non-stop hysteria pitch since he arrived on the island.

I have even caught him lying about no shops coming in, no air transport, people dying, etc.

Geraldo is lying if he is saying that. You'll recall that last Sunday I posted a news clipping from my company describing how they were finally able to get a flight in with 160,000 pounds of supplies to our Employees and their families , and 7 satellite telephones to try to get things organized for more flights, and then the company explained the limited number of that flights were allowed to get in and out due to the closed runways and ATC shutdown and power loss and infrastructure and all the rest. So the overalll point is flights have been getting in---limited of course as things are being fixed but if Geraldo is saying they are not he is a grandstanding liar as usual.

Here it is again in part:

A Puerto Rico update:  “The situation in Puerto Rico remains extremely fluid, but as of today, we have landed our first relief flight in San Juan. This flight was boarded with over 160,000 lbs of supplies...water, MRE's and crew snacks, for our company personnel living in Puerto Rico. Our ramp continues to be powered by generators and manned by a skeleton crew. Communication remains problematic as well. Yesterday we were able to transfer 7 Global telephones up from South America and are in company personnel's hands now. When we receive word from SJU managers that the supplies have been distributed and they are able to receive an additional flight, flight ops will be ready to launch another flight. Currently, SJU ATC is only able to accept 3 aircraft/hour.
BQN remains closed except for military and hurricane relief flights. Our BQN ramp is closed and will re-open when all personnel are able to travel to the ramp safely.”

I hate Gerardo's guts. Good Morning!

I have been enduring Geraldo's reporting for several days and finally got so I would mute my Fox live feed when he was on.

However, today he defended President Trump and said he shouldn't be blamed for a natural disaster nor the decrepit infrastructure. (That is a paraphrase.)

I am ssuming Fox got an earful from viewers like me. I told Brett Baier that he needed to quit depending on Geraldo's reporting since he was exaggerating for dramatic effect. I then notified Fox that they had to have someone else doing the reporting, because Geraldo was trying to duplicate his Katrina coverage and I was not pleased.

I am guessing there were thousands of people like me, posting tweets and generally gicving them hell.

The trouble in Puerto Rico is lack of logistics distributing aid. The governor of PR, Rosello just announced that he had reach a deal with the Teamsters in Puerto Rico, that will allow all the thousands of containers now in San Juan to be delivered to the distribution spots.

The union was holding up the deliveries of supplies as part of an effort to deal with other issues that Puerto Rico is dealing with. One of which was a cut on working days that was passed just prior to the hurricanes Irma and Maria, and other fees that they wanted to negotiate.

The Mayor of San Juan had been critical of Trump even before his election, calling him a disaster for the island, especially now that the island is in conservatorship due to bankruptcy. I believe it is an attempt to get favorable treatment for labor unions (her biggest supporters).

PS BTW, the Board that oversees PR's finances announced that the cut in days was to be put on hold until at least next year.
