Last ditch effort will pass with lucrative side deals for the holdouts.
Rand Paul will not be bought but we may get Heitkamp and Manchin.

daddy

Which one's "Butch"?

henry

I prefer Butch Cassidy

daddy

For the record, our "Independent" Alaskan Governor is opposed to Graham-Cassidy's Repeal:

Headline: Walker joins other governors in opposition to latest ACA repeal attempt,

and the standard rabble protesters are out front of Lisa Murkowski's Office demanding she Vote No:

Health care coalition protests latest ACA repeal bill

Last I heard Lisa M said she has to study the plan to decide if she likes it.

henry

However, from TM's Politico link, the end of the Medicaid expansion and conversion to population based block grants (eat it Kasich) is helpful, waivers by state for "essential benefits" (including preexisting conditions?) might reduce premiums for employers. sucks less than the last one. still confirms the govt place in healthcare.

daddy

Speaking of Butch and Sundance,

29 Homicides in the town of Anchorage as of this morning. (Population 298,500)

Can you guys top that in your towns?

Clarice Feldman

Then ANwT will fie,daddy?

So the solution to OBAMACARE is the FEDERAL FEDERAL FEDERAL govt, sending money to THE STATES, for purposes of GOVERNMENT ENTITLEMENT.

GOOD PLAN!!!! LISPY GRAHAM IS A CONSERVATIVE

I usually speak Clarice, but...
Then ANWR will fly....?

Clarice Feldman

Have you read McCarthy's latest that Manafort is in danger? I think he's full of it entirely.

GUS

Daddy, ANWR getting to drill again, means YOUR "independent" Gov can spend more of YOUR MONEY.

And give you less!!! Government is your friend.

henry

Leahy aide? Is DC a swamp or sedimentation pond?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Jane,

I should have posted yesterday when the news of the Mexico earthquake hit that we could expect one on the other side of the Pacific.

There is a series of active faults surrounding the edges of both the western Americas and Asia. In geology, it is called the Circum-Pacific Ring of Fire.

The continents sit on plates and the fault lines are in the subduction zones where portions of the continental shelves are forced downward (this is related to continental drift). Periodically there is either earthquake or volcanic activity along this ring, and once there is movement on one side it is usually echoed on the opposite side.

The only thing I worry about is the Yellowstone Caldera.

daddy

Gov can spend more of YOUR MONEY.

And give you less!!! Government is your friend.

GUS,

Here is a good short read on the stealing of Alaska's PFD money by the Governor and the Legislature: Time for the Mackie Plan

As a consequence over the last 2 years of the Governor and the Legislature deciding to change the rules of how the PFD checks were determined over the last 30 years, and they got a State Supreme Judge to bless their theft, a push is on to pass a Ballot Measure or Legislation to do a 1 time pay out and elimination of the PFD, so that the State Government can no longer take however much of the Fund, that belongs to the Citizens, and use if for their Govt purposes. People now know the Fund is being raided by the Govt and they know the Govt will continue to take money from the Fund, so the proposed solution is liquidate the Fund by giving every eligible recipient $50,000 at one shot and eliminate the Fund so it can't be stolen from us any longer.

Big stink on local Talk.

Jane "Sometimes I think the world is coming to an end."

I hear you. But then think about, say, five thousand years of recorded human history, 100 times that for unrecorded human history, then 100 times THAT and you still missed the dinosaurs by 15,000,000 years, and even then you have reache but one tenth (I round) of the time the world has laughed through such momentary "troubles". Heck, going back to the short end, recorded human history, there "ain't nuthin new under the sun" going on except for the existence of nukes but even they are simply the latest in game changing military weapons.

"Mueller Seeks White House Documents Related to Trump’s Actions as President

Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, has asked the White House for documents about some of President Trump’s most scrutinized actions since taking office, including the firing of his national security adviser and F.B.I. director, according to White House officials.

Mr. Mueller is also interested in an Oval Office meeting Mr. Trump had with Russian officials in which he said the dismissal of the F.B.I. director had relieved “great pressure” on him."

A) Russia

B) FBI

My answer is definitely B. I have seen zero evidence the Russians did any influencing whatsoever. I have seen tons of evidence the FBI did so.

GUS

Again for those playing the HOME version of WFT IS GOING ON.

What is being investigated. What crime? What allegation? What statute?

There is going to be bloodshed. This IS a COUP attempt.

Good afternoon! Hubby just returned from a couple of days at a sporting camp (only access is to fly in). It is near a section of the AT,so he did some hiking, but mostly read and relaxed. He was with of a group of business guys, all ages, including a retired guy (well known business in Maine) who had always been a Susan Collins supporter. Even your question is unfair to Russia, Daddy.

To be fair, you should change "influence the 2016 US Election" to "influence the US election by more than the US tried to influence elections in, say, Israel."

"Is there anyone more boring in the world than Janet Yellan?"

It's in the job description for Fed chair.

daddy

BOzo dubbed himself the "First Pacific President".

That reminded me of this:

Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, lived in Tianjin, China for two years with his wife, Lou Hoover after graduating Stanford with a degree in Geology. He worked as a mining engineering and executive during those years. According to the Hoover Association, the two adapted to the language there and would sometimes speak in Mandarin when they didn't want people to know what they were talking about.

The Hoovers even caught themselves in the middle of the Boxer Rebellion during their time in China in 1900. The couple was sent to a walled compound for protection from those who were rebelling against Western influence in China and persecuting Chinese Christians. The Boxer Rebellion finally came to an end a year later in September of 1901.

I agree with both OL and Appalled's corrections and comments on my poll question.

How fun:)

https://spectator.org/when-bill-clinton-threatened-to-end-north-korea/

On July 9, 1993, as the Washington Post reported at the time, Bill Clinton, amid a major swing through Asia, told the media the following of U.S. policy toward North Korea under his administration: “We would overwhelmingly retaliate if [the North Koreans] were to ever use, to develop and use nuclear weapons. It would mean the end of their country as they know it.”

For the record, he also added, “North Korea is just one of many renegade nations that would like to have nuclear weapons and be unaccountable for them, and we can’t let it happen.”

Well, it did happen. And presidents like Donald Trump are today left to deal with the failures of presidents like Bill Clinton (and his bipartisan successors) who couldn’t stop it from happening.

Clinton’s comments were widely covered at the time, including by the New York Times, which reported: “On his weekend visit to South Korea, President Clinton warned that if North Korea developed and used an atomic weapon, ‘we would quickly and overwhelmingly retaliate.’” He said, “It would mean the end of their country as they know it.”

To repeat: the end of their country as they know it.

It's different when the prez is a lovable scamp that all the press wants to fellate, isn't it?

lyle

A bit more:

And I’ll always remember the response of Democrats and liberals to Clinton’s bold threat to “end” North Korea.

What was their response? They loved it. They pumped their firsts. They pounded their chests. They gave high-fives. They yelled “Woot! Woot! Woot!”

Yes, the very same peaceniks who throughout the 1980s had derided Ronald Reagan as a trigger-happy cowboy and nuclear warmonger, who had run George H.W. Bush out of office after he drove Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, suddenly yanked the daisies from their hair and gun barrels and were ready to storm out to SAC headquarters to board their Super-fortress for Pyongyang. They had become Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove.

Utterly predictable, of course.
