Miss Marple

I thank God every day that I live in Indiana.

Old Lurker

Daddy, serious question about all those hotels. Have you had any bedbug encounters and do you have a protocol for not taking them home with you?

Old Lurker

How, at this time, would Hillary challenge the election?

All she wants to do is to add to "impeachment" blather so perhaps enough congressmen can be swayed into doing something that any rational person assessing the political scene at present would know is impossible--and going to stay impossible. I think she really believes the Russians did something actionable that can also be hung on Trump, despite all the reasons we know that's nonsense. Silly woman.

A 12 year old Bill Clinton could parse the hell out of this and use it to justify just about anything:

"Washington Times - Monday, September 18, 2017
White House officials told foreign energy ministers Monday that President Trump still intends to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement unless the U.S. obtains “more favorable” terms.

At a breakfast meeting on the sidelines of the annual United Nations general assembly in New York, White House economic adviser Gary Cohn and other officials emphasized that Mr. Trump’s position hasn’t changed, the White House said.

“We are withdrawing from the Paris Agreement unless we can reengage on terms more favorable to the United States,” a senior White House official said. “This position was made very clear during the breakfast.”

Mr. Cohn met with climate ministers from more than a dozen nations Monday.

Over the weekend, a European diplomat told reporters that the Trump administration appeared to be softening its stance on withdrawing from the climate accord. The White House said Mr. Trump hasn’t changed his mind about the deal being unfair to the U.S."

CA has become quite the One Party state. Sacramento requires cities and counties to reduce landfill to solve global warming. Said entities reduce the size of garbage bins. And they provide mor and more specialized bins to handle the excess. My city has yard waste, kitchen scraps, paper recycling and container recycling so far.
The impact on the environment, of course, is a butterfly sneeze compared to the new coal fired power plants India and China roll out every other week. The cost per enviro-impact is horrendous.
The hatred by Dems in Sacramento for ordinary white people is off the charts ... kind of how Dems used to hate black people now that I think of it.

Interesting, Man Tran.

I really liked some of the short science video's ZoBob had me watching, so if these are some of the same creators it may turn out fun. I did see that Harvard just had their annual Ig Noble Awards last week, but what with Harvard naming Chelsea Manning a Fellow I lost interest, as what could be more ignoble than a once great Institution prostituting itself and it's reputation for the Social Justice atta'boys of naming that transgender traitor an honored Harvard dignitary?

On the topic of this tread, Jerry Brown went from being a far left governor to a sort of quixotic political madcap. Upon his return to the governorship, he reverted to type. While he wrecks havoc on the state, it doesn't seem that the voters are paying any attention. He has a solid, veto proof legislature and will probably receive a second term without much effort. What really worries us is what will come after him.

Debate stunner: Trump won't say he'll accept election result

Threatening to upend a basic pillar of American democracy, Donald Trump refused Wednesday night to say he would accept the results of the November election if he loses to Hillary Clinton

By JULIE PACE and LISA LERER

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Threatening to upend a fundamental pillar of American democracy, Donald Trump refused to say Wednesday night that he will accept the results of next month's election if he loses to Hillary Clinton. The Democratic nominee declared Trump's resistance "horrifying."

Trump had spent the days leading up to the third and final presidential debate warning voters that the election would be "rigged." Asked whether he would accept the outcome if Clinton emerges victorious, he said, "I will tell you at the time. I'll keep you in suspense."

Trump's assertions raise the prospect that millions of his supporters may not accept the results on Nov. 8 if he loses, thrusting the nation into uncharted territory. Free and fair elections, with the vanquished peacefully stepping aside for the victor, have been the underpinning of America's democratic tradition since the country's founding 240 years ago.

any bedbug encounters

OL,

Far as I know, never. I always keep my luggage off the floor---on tables or chairs. If in a hotel as in New York where there are reports of bed bugs I leave my luggage in the bathroom on the porcelain areas of the floor. I never toss my dirty clothes on the floor, and most of the time walking around the room I am sockless and wearing my birthday suit.

Arriving home I always leave my bags in the garage. When I get ready to wash my clothes I take them all out in the garage, then carry them right inside to the laundry room which is just inside the garage door. Right into the washer they go, then the dryer, and in 20+ years we've never had any problems.

JimNorCal

DrJ, I wouldn't know how to navigate the CA requirements in this area. This is from http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov and speaks of targets. Additionally, I've been to Council meetings where they talked about formal plans they had to write up. They definitely consider this important and they are busy as bees spending money to implement it.
It may take time but the hinterlands will eventually be told to sign on.

"In September 2016, Governor Brown signed SB 1383, establishing targets to achieve a 50 percent reduction in disposed organic waste by 2020 and a 75 percent reduction by 2025."

"California Climate Investments is a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment--particularly in disadvantaged communities."

old post about Shirley Teter - Another reminder of the ugly, vicious Democrat party...
post from Oct. 2016 - How is this not a HUGE story?... Democrats hiring activists to 'set up' Americans. Mr. Campbell, who is 73 yrs. old, was being prosecuted. Thank heaven for James O'Keefe.

"O’Keefe’s undercover video showed Democracy Partners consultant Scott Foval — who has since been fired — claiming that Teter was a “trained” political activist."

"69-year-old Shirley Teter of Asheville now says it is possible that 73-year-old Richard L. Campbell merely touched her accidentally, as his attorney had claimed all along."

"As a result of Teter’s initial accusation, police in Asheville issued a warrant for Campbell’s arrest, and his name was dragged through the mud nationwide — for the simple act of attending a political rally."

JIB,

Two things are common to each of those scenarios. The responsibility for most issues involving children has been ceded to the state, and authority figures such as parents, teachers and school principals are subordinate to community officials and boards.

A third area of commonality is the notion that the actions of children and by extension their parents are interpreted in the worst possible way. It's a far cry from the days when I taught school, and can't possibly be healthy for the kids.

I remember a day when I broke up a fight on the playground between two very tall and angry young boys. As I stood there between them, it occurred to me that they could have pounded me into the asphalt. Fortunately, they were both good kids and listened to me.

After everyone returned to class, I took them aside to sort the argument out, and impressed on them their responsibility to set a good example for the other school children. They listened and reluctantly shook hands when I told them to. I'm sure they never liked each other, but they never fought again. And I didn't report the fight to anyone. Sad to say, but I guess that wouldn't happen today.

Janet 🚬

Fat apple, banana, pear
gooseberry. . . .all speak immanence
of death and life to the child there;
I sense it on his countenance

as he partakes. This comes from afar.
Does something you cannot relate

replacing speech with fiats from the jam jar?

Dare to declare a pear.

then to clarity reversed

awakens from the slumbering nectar
luminous twin significance
of sun and earth; presence and joy - immense!

You know that Governor Moonbeam is in no position to call anybody dumb.

Back in the 1970's the then Governor Jerry Brown-your standard lefty--and also a failed seminarian--too the very nubile, very attractive Linda Ronstadt on a safari to Africa. Ms. Ronstadt then had a reputation as a very attractive young woman who was not averse to an occasional romp in the hay--with a wide variety of friends. Not that there was anything wrong with that then or now.

Governor Moonbeam took her on a two or three week safari to Africa--and didn't know what to do with her.

I rest my case--he was an idiot then, and isn't much smarter now.

I agree about the parades being an additional burden for troops, although I would like to see a patriotic July 4th parade in DC. Maybe voluntary participation, or by units which specialize in it like the Old Guard and the Marine Band. Also include Boy Scouts and floats from various states and high school bands (we specialize in fancy bands here in Indiana).

I think his motivation is to increase patriotism, which we can all agree is sorely needed.

daddy,

I'm not a fan of parades and these days they've developed into mini Broadway productions. But the one thing that I do like seeing and listening to are the military bands. After 9/11 and to this day, the people who line the parade routes use the opportunity to cheer those in the military and show their appreciation. It's a small thing, but I think it's important after we watched the reverse during the 1960's. The soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War were never properly welcomed home. Heck, they weren't welcomed home at all.

After Gulf War I, soldiers who fought in Vietnam were asked to march in the Hollywood Christmas Parade. The crowd gave them an overwhelmingly positive reception that was long overdue.

Thanking men and women for their service may seem like a throw away tag line at times (especially coming from certain talk show hosts). Nonetheless, we can't say it enough in my estimation. We need to remember who these people are, why they're there, and to recognize the sacrifices they make. Parades are a small but good venue for people to show their appreciation.

Great point made to Michael Goodwin in regard to the latest bit about Manafort being wiretapped:

Lou: Let's start with what's breaking right now, and that is that Manafort was wiretapped by the FBI (last year and this year)... It was just 2 or 3 weeks ago that FBI and the Justice Department filing said "There is no evidence that the President was ever wiretapped." These conversations with Paul Manafort that he (Trump) was having, one would think that some of that would be with the candidate for whom he was working for a period of 3 months...

Michael Goodwin: Right and Manafort also has an apartment in Trump Tower, so Trump argued that my phones were tapped at Trump Tower. Now all of the denials have I thought been spitting hairs and parsing the definitions of "is."

Lou interrupts sarcastically Surely not the FBI?

Goodwin: Remember James Comey, "No, nothing, nothing like that, I would know!" Clapper, the same thing. But they clearly now were, at least according to CNN, tapping phones in Trump Tower.

Lou: If this had happened in President Trump's DOJ, tapping a Presidential Candidate, the National Media would explode.

Goodwin: Hell, absolutely! I think first of all there will be a continuing splitting of hairs. The President will never get credit for being right about this.

Lou:The Left wing media will protect their own.

Goodwin: The Democratic Media.

If this last bit about Manafort is true, then we have a rogue FBI and a rogue CIA and we can't trust them, nor can Trump trust them.

Goodwin thinks we are soon going to find out if Trump was in fact wiretapped. My take is that even as late as 2 weeks ago the FBI and the DOJ were flat-ass lying to all of us, and this is no insignificant lie, this is monstrous and monumental.

Here's the CNN link topping Drudge: Exclusive: US government wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman

US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.

The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.

So they were listening to Trump as late as a few months back. Anyone able to timeline all those secret leaks to the Newspapers with the timeline of when they were wiretapping Trump at Trump Tower via Paul Manafort?

So according to Lou here was the FBI/DOJ filing as of 2 weeks ago:

"There is no evidence that the President was ever wiretapped."

There is now! My only question is why would they leak this to CNN? Isn't there some other entity they could decide to leak this to than those anti-Trump shitheads?

The NYTs says Manaforrt will be indicted. Is this why it was leaked now? Because it's fixing to come out anyway?

DrJ

There is no evidence that the President was ever wiretapped.

Well, you see, Trump never was wiretapped. Yes, we wiretapped Manafort, and he happened to talk with Trump once in a while. But Trump never was the target nor wiretapped.

:)

DrJ

And Trump had to know this. His statements (or Tweets, I forget which) were just too clear on the wiretapping issue.

I'm not sure what Manafort did to get wiretapped.

Sue, from the CNN ink:

A secret order authorized by the court that handles the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) began after Manafort became the subject of an FBI investigation that began in 2014. It centered on work done by a group of Washington consulting firms for Ukraine's former ruling party, the sources told CNN...

...The surveillance was discontinued at some point last year for lack of evidence, according to one of the sources.

The FBI then restarted the surveillance after obtaining a new FISA warrant that extended at least into early this year.

Sources say the second warrant was part of the FBI's efforts to investigate ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives.

DrJ

MM, pretty unambiguous, yes?

Where the hell is Sessions and why won't that silent sunuvabitch open up his fricken' mouth and tell us what the hell is going on.

His silence is unhealthy for America.
