First reporter question is about Illegals who have joined the Military---Wants to know how Trump is going to fix that? If they have signed up for 4 years will they be booted out after 2? Asks if there is no "fix" of the program by Congress, do you know what will happen to those people?

Sarah replies: We have confidence that Congress is going to step up and do their job. This is something that needs to be fixed Legislatively and we have confidence that they are going to do that. We stand ready and willing to work with them in order to accomplish responsible Immigration Reform...

From the last thread, but on topic:
It's incomprehensible to me that people with major accomplishments in substantial real life fields regard her as anything but a nagging harridan but that's part of the diversity of opinions in which we live.

Yes, but what's happening now seems to go beyond the normal disagreement one finds throughout history. The reactions to Hillary's defeat and Trump's victory are so extreme as to indicate, as I said on the last thread, either mental illness or something worse.

Whatever one may think of psychology, there's an aphorism they have which goes something like this: Whenever the response is far out of proportion to the stimulus, there's another agenda. (Presumably that can include mental illness.) That seems clearly to be happening here. Their preferred candidate last an election. It happens every four years. There's never been to my knowledge the sort of mass hysteria that has accompanied this election. And that includes the candidate herself.

MSNBC Conservative: GOP Is 'Party of Charlottesville,' 'Deserves Extinction'

I think people will focus on Trump, particularly as it comes right after Charlottesville, right after the pardon of the Maricopa sheriff who practiced racial profiling and abused suspected immigrants. He is going to take the blame for this, and, frankly, I don't think Congress is going to be able to handle it. They could if they wanted to.

Guess who.

Comanche Voter

Hillary never really "sold" her vote--a good whore stays bought. And the only thing that Hillary was interested in was a little bit of cash. Well make that a lot of cash to further her agenda and career. By the way her agenda and career are one and the same.

I look at Hillary and her conduct and I am reminded of the Robert Shaw monologue in the movie Jaws where he talks about looking into the eyes of a shark. There's really nothing in those eyes--and than be said of Hillary--a great white shark load full of remorseless pursuit of power in a pant suit.

Marlene

Speaking of ranting,Bernie gave a Labor Day week-end speech to the AFL-CIO in Manchester (NH). The Union Leader called the speech "rousing" and brought the union members and other Democrat politicians to their feet. I don't think the Bernie groupies are giving Hillary a second thought.

daddy

Marr Liaison (I think): The President has said that the DACA recipients should rest easy. He's also said on several occasions that he loves them. Is he giving them his personal assurance that at the end of 6 months they won't be deported?

Sarah Huckabee Sanders: I think he is giving Congress the ability do their job. Look, the President gave the ability for us to have a 6 month process, for Congress to actually step up and fix this problem, and they certainly have the ability to and certainly should take that opportunity.

daddy

Unknown Reporter: The President basically told Congress to do this, but he hasn't written any Legislation similar to how he approached...

Sanders (Interrupting): I didn't know it was the President's job to write out specific details of Legislation.

Captain Hate

jimmyk,

I think a lot of the psycho reaction was based on the grievance groups the donks nurtured as part of their base. In the case of Hillary they called themselves feminists but what they were in reality were grasping, bitter and dumpy shrews obsessed with perceived slights which they used to rationalize their lots in life not being as fulfilling as they'd fantasized about. Curb Dive was their perfect candidate and would have won if not for that upstart black bastard who made such a splash at the 2004 convention and jump started Queen Rodham's place in line.

Plus I don't think Zippy or the Ferret either liked or trusted Hilly. Put all those things in a slow cooker and you have a grievance stew to be served on the crazy train.

An observation --

If Trump is really playing a 3-d chess game, then his object is the destructon of the current Republican leadership. Because the domestic initiatives Trump has taken have the effect of making that crew look terrible, ineffective, or useless.

If Ryan and that crew figure something like that is going on (and they are not stupid), they may get over their fear of opposing Trump, and go straight to war as the better option for them. In that case, you may actually see that Uniparty you all talk about.

A question erupts about Myanmar. Anybody have a quick synopsis of who is killing who in Myanmar? My vague recollection is that Muslim's are involved.

I wondered about that too, daddy. Seems to me that before DACA, illegals were already volunteering to serve in our military. So there should be some kind of protocol in place from 'way before.

Surprised Sarah didn't have a grasp of that Q coming down the pike when this whole mess started.

Thanks for pointing it out!!

Captain Hate

I think you're wrong, Appalled. Ryan got it right when he said that Trump is fulfilling his promise to let the legislature make laws per the Constitution. Ryan had the opportunity to do that in the last six years if he felt like pushing the issue but instead he chose to let the JEF's EO exist unchallenged. Tbh I'm kind of surprised he didn't produce an amnesty bill that Zippy would've signed except maybe he wanted to keep the issue alive for conservatives to run on and keep him in power.

I have to admit I find it fascinating how this has played out.

daddy

Thanks, Appalled. That was my vague impression but I hadn't followed it.

That crew looks terrible, ineffective, or useless whether Trump rubs their nose in it or not.

Mostly because they are terrible, ineffective and useless.

Threadkiller

In that case, you may actually see that Uniparty you all talk about.

More likely the self-proclaimed moderates might finnally see what we already see.

Whether they admit it or not? Who knows...

I am not necessarily a fan of the 4 dimensional chess theory. Seems more like Trump knows how to shift the playing field to his advantage and is confident he is better at it than those he's up against.

When it works it just looks like 4 dimensional chess.

Not getting into an argument about 4d chess (coined, I think, by the Reddit guys).

I think Trump is able to walk while chewing gum, keeps several projects going at the same time, sees how they connect with other issues, and thinks ahead.

The people in Congress haven't ever had to deal with someone who thinks this way and is also not beholden to any interest group except the voters. That is why they have been revealed to be the useless people they are.

Hi guys from somewhere in the Atlantic. Amazing week. Tom Coburn completely defanged David French today to the delight of the crowd, Dave, Lileks really appreciated your words. MM , Kevin thanks you for the raspberries. No Rich or Jonah on the boat. I'd say the crowd is 90 % pro-Trump. Oh and Mukasey found our meeting with Blago hysterical. Home Thursday in time to watch my home get. Blown away.

daddy

Glasater,

As a former military guy I very specifically recall the verbiage in the enlistment contract that stated something like "I further understand that Congress may change the rules at any time that may effect my obligation to serve..." or something fairly close to that. In my year in Recruiting I highlighted that clause in yellow highlighter and always made sure my candidates read it. Naturally they would ask, "Does that mean what I think it means?" and I'd reply honestly, "Yep."

So that said, once you raise your hand and swear the Oath and sign the paperwork, you are at the whims of the Congress and the needs of the service from then on. These DACA Military Enlistee's therefore are in the same boat as everybody else in being subject to the machinations of the powers that be.

What I'm not clear on is to what extent they are getting what they deserve. I don't trust the coverage that suggests they are all innocent and peace-loving (natch), and I believe at the very least they entered the country illegally. But I don't know that they have acted like the Muzzies in Europe and other parts of Asia either. My impression is that they have not, but as I say, the media cannot be trusted on this.

CH:

I think Trump's timing is interesting, if he's just making a constitutional statement. This is an ICBM aimed directly at where the GOP establishment differs most profoundly from the GOP base, forcing the establishment to take a stand right before primary time. And it comes after the GOPe did its mega flop-o-rooney on Obamacare.

It does strike me that Trump has been managing the politics of his stances better lately.

That's my take, JimmyK. The Media is knee jerk to portray Muslims as Kumbaya-kids. Reality continually illustrates they are anything but, so when this latest violence pops up I know where my bias lies since Buddhists as a general rule aren't massively violent and aggressive for no good reason.

Captain Hate

Glasater,

I was recalling a contract from my experience back in the mid 80's. I just goolagged Military Enlistment Contracts and this link popped up which I suspect is current:

ENLISTMENT/REENLISTMENT DOCUMENT ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES

Here's the current equivalent verbiage in the standard Enlistment Contract (DD FORM 4/1, OCT 2007) that I would always highlight for candidates:

9. FOR ALL ENLISTEES OR REENLISTEES:
I understand that many laws, regulations, and military customs will govern my conduct and require me to do things under this agreement that a civilian does not have to do. I also understand that various laws, some of which are listed in this agreement, directly affect this enlistment/reenlistment agreement. Some examples of how existing laws may affect this agreement are explained in paragraphs 10 and 11. I understand that I cannot change these laws but that Congress may change these laws, or pass new laws, at any time that may affect this agreement, and that I will be subject to those laws and any changes they make to this agreement. I further understand that:...

...5.b.

Laws and regulations that govern military personnel may change without notice to me. Such changes may affect my status, pay, allowances, benefits, and responsibilities as a member of the Armed Forces REGARDLESS of the provisions of this enlistment/ reenlistment document.

Irma's winds are over water. Once it hits the Islands and larger land mass like Cuba and Hispaniola the wind speed will dissapate. Keep watching the cone everyday and look for deviations in the envelope. We have a hurricane plot board where we can easily plot deviations of trajectory. To hit the SW of Florida head on it has to either go over the Keys and then turn East on a dime or go south othe Keys and then steer N by NE to ENE. Unlikely.

I'm betting it steers into SE Florida and keeps same trajectory over Everglades up to Pinellas out to Gulf pick up some lost energy there and head for AL/MS/LA. My guess which is worth nothing just a calculation following the NHC cones.
