Miss Marple the Deplorable

Captain Hate,

I well remember your admonition to me years ago on Ace's site about the Uniparty. I just refused to believe it, because one hates to think one has been so gullible. (And gullible I am or I would probably have not been blindsided by my divorce.)

derwill is right. We HAVE been on a plantation. How loathsome these people are. I am back to the 500 names out of the phone book Buckley spoke about many years ago.

It's a business model, as Bannon said in his Charlie Rose interview. I still don't trust Bannon with this Moore thing BUT he sure was right about that.

Whenever these people start sniffing about Trump, I look at the president and say, well, he got off his rear and DID something, and he has kept every one of his promises over which he had control. He didn't LIE to me for 7 years about Obamacare repeal, nor did he make a big deal about defunding Planned Parenthood and then never do it.

Plus, President Trump risked his reputation, his businesses, his privacy, and his LIFE to run for the presidency. You know damn well they planned on destroying him if Hillary had won. I think he's a pretty brave man.

Anyone GOP who ends up opposing Trump in 2020 is going to have to deal with what Miss M. lays out here. Mitch has done a pretty good job of blowing it, and as much as one likes, one can't assign more than a small bit of the blame to the President. (It'd have been nice if he had more grasp of healthcare issues, and if Price had been more forceful. But I doubt that would have changed one vote, because the GOP always intended to be just one vote short on this issue.)

As for the second paragraph, I am not sure Trump knew what he was letting himself in for in 2015, when he entered the race. But he had plenty of moments where he could have pulled out, and he didn't. It's hard to argue that a Clinton administration wouldn't have targeted him in 2017. It's also plausible that Trump could have traded his freedom in 2017 for pulling out of the race.

I am not sure how the Sasses and Rubios address the hash the GOPe has made. Can't say THAT makes me happy.

Appalled, my feeling on Trump and the Obamacare repeal/replace thing is that--while he was willing to sign whatever the GOPe put onh is desk--his hope all along has been to see Obamacare crash and burn and become an insupportable nightmare, so that he could then put his own plan in front of a Congress desperate at that point to pass whatever he gives them.

Like you said, they were never going to pass his own plan and he knew it. And it's been interesting to watch how he's been playing them. One minute supporting their efforts when they've seemed close to a deal, then admonishing them for their inevitable failure.

Also, I'm not all that confident that his plan will end up being all that "conservative." But then anything the GOPe could have managed to come up was probably going to end up being worse.

Supreme Court Cancels Travel Ban Arguments

The U.S. Supreme Court removed the travel ban case from its October oral arguments calendar Monday, after President Donald Trump issued a proclamation implementing new travel restrictions.

Trump’s issued his proclamation Sunday, hours before his original executive order on refugees and migrants was set to expire.

The justices were originally scheduled to hear the case Oct. 10. Monday’s order cancels the oral argument and orders the parties in the case — the U.S. government and a coalition of Democratic state attorneys general and civil rights groups — to submit new briefs as to whether the original travel ban case is now “moot.” It does not dismiss the case altogether.

A longer version of what derwill has said today:

https://spectator.org/im-with-americas-commissioner-in-chief/

By nationalizing this issue, the President has come off as the guy who is standing up for the flag, America, decency and common sense. The President’s critics who are so quick to jump on him no matter what he says, looked before they leapt on this one and consequently come off as people who hate America. Former member of Congress, Donna Edwards, seemed to sum up the left’s sentiment after Trump’s weekend remarks, recommending that all players now take a knee. Come election day, being the party that is against the anthem, the flag, and for millionaire athletes is not a good place to be. And for Donald Trump, every time a player takes a knee the president comes out as the hero for defending American values. Politically, this is the gift that keeps giving.

As the President ascends, the NFL continues its suicide march. With declining ratings and empty stadiums, this is the last fight the NFL needed. In this it also reveals where the NFL made a classic miscalculation, probably due to personal political leanings of the top brass. The NFL believes the next generation of sports fans is upon us, and they are young, racially diverse, and political activism appeals to them.

So the NFL Top. Men. are banking on the Millennials to save their bacon? Please.

We had season tickets to the 49ers for over thirty years until we left the Bay Area. Last year we didn't watch a single NFL game on TV including the Super Bowl and probably won't this year either. And the kneeling was only one element of why we lost interest in the sport. Something went missing from the game at some point before even before the kneeling, although I've never quite been able to put my finger on it what exactly happened. And we do watch some college football.

lyle

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/09/trump_should_order_the_military_to_boycott_nfl_.html

If President Trump is serious about telling Americans to boycott the NFL for players taking a knee during the National Anthem, then he should back up those words as commander-in-chief and boycott the NFL with an executive order putting a halt to any and all taxpayer funding of sponsorships and advertising by the United States Armed Forces with the NFL and any other athletic organization that takes part in, encourages, or condones disrespecting of the American flag by their employees, players, or coaches.

President Trump's executive order should effectively stop the use of taxpayer funding for U.S. military color guards for the National Anthem, flyovers, sponsorship, and advertising of any kind, or anything else associated in any way with the United States Armed Forces in direct or indirect connection with any athletic organizations that violate the executive order.

Btw, we'd already given up our season tickets by the time the new stadium was built. But to have an option to buy seats in about the same section as what we had at Candlestick, it would have cost us an up-front fee of $20,000. And that is on top of the yearly price of the tickets themselves.

Whoever is sitting in those seats now, it's not the same working class people we spent so many years sitting with at Candlestick Park. Not for that kind of money.

The funny thing is the whole kneeling for the anthem never made any sense to me. First, because the anthem itself really has no visceral connection in people's minds to the cop shootings that they were protesting. (And which was why it was so easy for Trump to conflate it into a protest against America herself). Secondly, why the kneeling? Why not sit down, or raise a clenched fist or turn your back. Kneeling in my mind is form of reverence, or even submission. The whole thing was a stupid exercise from the get-go.
