daddy

Primo!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

At the risk of sounding as oblivious as I actually am, what does the term "willowed" mean and what is its etymology?

daddy

TM,

Perhaps this is why Trump is considering changing his position on the Paris Accords---Chocolate CAUSES Climate Change

Catsmeat

What Ophelia meant, Ig, is bent into a condition of mourning (willows, like yews, were planted in English churchyards, as signs of grief and resurrection.) What "willowed" now means is anyone's guess.

Ralph L

This isn't the time of year to turn green, at least in the Northern Hemisphere.

daddy

That's a withering question, Ig.

Ralph L

What's being willowed, or winnowed, or whatever?

Captain Hate

At AoS, a young Moronette named willow has a longstanding habit of coming late to a thread and commenting on it just when it went tits up to a new thread. She's a nice 'ette and has thanked me for explaining things which she's too young to have lived through; so nice that she was made a good natured generic term which I've brought here.

Catsmeat

Ahh, it all becomes clear. Is this in the official lexicon?

Catsmeat

I ask because the Freeper lexicon is fascinating--I didn't know about "Trixie," for instance, until I scrolled through the whole illuminating thing.

Captain Hate

I haven't updated the glossary in a long time, although it seems somebody added Elmer Fudd.

Catsmeat

Fair enough.

 narciso.

It turns according to the telegraph, that mother is a twisted allegory of the book of genesis, hence aronovsky removes all doubt again.

Ralph L

I don't see how morons keep up with each other, the comments come so thick and fast, not like the old days. Continuous refresh mode?

My grandmother was known as Trix since she was 3. She didn't know her lifelong friend's real name wasn't Pearl until Pearl died.

Captain Hate

I sometimes just start using terms which I'm confident narc will understand, because he comments and lurks almost everywhere, and that eventually somebody like Iggy will ask about. So I'm always ready to define it.

Buckeye

Last series of downs in the Ohio State game gives us something to look forward to.

Dwayne Haskins has the throwing arm JT can only dream about.

Ralph L

If TM has a link on the page for the JOM Glossary, I can't find it.

daddy

I wish I still bought Comic Books so I could quit and deny them the revenue: Superman Protects Undocumented Workers From Armed White Supremacist in Latest Comic

He doesn't have a link, Ralph L, though I've suggested it. I added Elmer Fudd.

"Fallen down" and I can't keep up! Here's some info for common man from an earlier of TM's Rocket Man speedy posts.

common man - the photo was from this newspaper article about a dark sky reserve.

What luck smart planning to be in Stanley for the eclipse.

Captain Hate

Someone on Zuckerberg, whose tastes I respect even if I don't always agree with, was pretty confused about the merits of mother. He threw in a lot of caveats warding people away from it, and not in a dismissive way; so much so that I cant imagine it being considered not a pan.

Holy shit, the Bearcats just took the lead on a pick six with only 1:07 left. This is an incredible choke by Miami.

Frau Heimat deine Sterne

The JOM glossary should add "Queasy" for James Comey (who only felt queasy when he had to be around President Trump).

narciso

This is why being a sports fan on south Florida is an insane exercise.

Captain Hate

Frau, you suggested The Luminaries, right?

narciso

Like morbos relatives, inspector dreyfus has earned my suspicion.

Captain Hate

Miami of Ohio.

OMG now they're knocking at the goal line. Cincy wins.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Thanks for the multiple explanations guys.

Frau Heimat deine Sterne

I tried to add "Queasy" and was unable to add it, CH. The photo of the NY meeting was too stunning and stunned my ability to work the glossary.

Time for bed.

So . . . *that's* who the 'rons have mentioned recently. Although there's been more than a few threads where I've made a late appearance of my own, if I'm forced to 'fess up.

Captain Hate

Yes, Michael; as Ralph stated those threads have a two hour lifespan in the morning, which frankly I find annoying. Plus one person is being a real drama queen about how much he hates his job, while nobody points out the huge elephant in the room of him complaining while he's commenting on work time.

Too bad about Texas. A mere freshman kicker came through twice for USC.

God piece by Surber. Except I take exception to comparing NR to The Penguin. I'd liken them to The Egghead from the 60s series, except I don't think they deserve even that much respect.

Another excellent Pieces this morning, Clarice.

Good night, again.

I don't understand how even in ultra-blue NYC, they could have elected an unapologetic flat-out self-proclaimed communist who tries to kill beloved animals.

Tom Bowler

Excellent Pieces, Clarice.

James D, even worse was that it appeared to be a favor to a supporter who would have benefited financially. Don't remember the details, but perhaps he was in line to buy the stables for a low price.

Sorry James d, no i am a little concerned that there doesn't appear to be much GOP pushback as in 93.

jimmyk

Yeah, but it seems he's going to get reelected, for lack of any decent opposition. Actually I like the Republican who's running (Nicole Thalliotakis) but she doesn't seem to stand a chance. Nowadays you need a celebrity billionaire.

jimmyk

Sorry, that's Malliotakis. Can't even get her name right, but she campaigns on just "Nicole."

Tom Bowler

MM, good link to the Gorka interview. When Peggy Noonan described Trump's deal with Schumer and Pelosi as a "pivot" in a WSJ column, I thought, "Peggy, it wasn't a pivot, it was a punch in the face for congressional Republicans." Gorka goes one better:

"Gorka: When they came for dinner and they came to the Oval, he wasn’t firing a shot over the bow of the GOP establishment. He was firing a torpedo into the hull of the GOP establishment."

"Goldman Sachs says crash dead ahead."

Don't worry. GS already have their people in the Trump administration to save GS executives and their money from any peril.

Davod

PS. I should add. Much as GS did with the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations.

Buckeye

Excellent as always Clarice.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Pieces was excellent as was the Gorka interview.

"Instinctual" as opposed to "48 dimensional chess" has been my take on the guy.
In many ways he plays a game the opposite of 4D chess. He's more like a defensive chess player. He has an ultimate goal, victory, but he gets there by maneuver, reaction and strategically sacrificing pieces. It's not that he doesn't have a plan, it's that he knows plans never survive contact with the enemy. And so he adjusts instinctually and on the fly.

Rigid ideologues and unimaginative dullards are befuddled and enraged by such behavior.

Dems are the kings of showy, expensive nonsense while real, legitimate, necessary functions are ignored.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

The 48 dimensional chess theory is useful, though, in that his opponents waste a lot of time trying to figure out his strategy, all to no avail.

those soft spoken softball interviewers seem one and the same to me.

They are because they contain nothing in them to differentiate themselves from each other except when Curb Dive makes a ridiculous gaffe like the Korea one, which was still accepted uncritically by Ralph, possibly hoping that she wouldn't be specifically added retroactively to the list of reasons the Ice Queen lost. Has anybody read how that tree killing doorstop was reviewed by the NYT? The highbrow crowd that Carlos Slim still pretends to attract still has a vested interest in acting that they still have the ability to reject self centered bloviating bullshit other than the black agitprop going back to when Eldridge Cleaver took advantage of their racial insecurities.

jimmyk on iPhone

Looking at that GS crash predictor, it appears to have predicted 8 out of the last 5 crashes, as the old joke goes.

Not that there isn't some risk, but if they manage to cut the corporate tax rate to 15 or 20%, that might push off the bust by a few years.

As much as I consider Hillary a corrupt, psychopathic fool, I figure her Korea gaffe was merely a slip of the tongue and she meant Seoul is only miles from the border.

Ok I must be being dense because I'm not grasping who Jennifer senior is. Rubin reviewing books is almost as bad of an idea as putting her on tv with piles of paper. Palmieri? Letting her campaign manager review her book about the campaign might make Iowahawk retire. Who am I missing?

Hillary, America's Miss Havisham
By Clarice Feldman
This week, the sorest loser since Dickens’ Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, Hillary Clinton, began peddling her latest book What Happened. (No question mark at the end because it’s didactic, not really an inquiry. She knows the answer and she’s going to instruct us out of her infinite wisdom and years-long expertise, including two such losses.)

Oh, clarice---you so captured the HRC I've known nearly forever right there in paragraph one! How well I remember reading oh so many years ago, in the WSJ:

"When we were on vacation last week, Bill and I were talking about (some social/human existence type problem) and I thought of the best solution ever!"

Really???
You know what works best for me???
And my neighbor too?
And who all else??

jimmyk

Well Sarah never even said "I can see Russia from my porch," but most people seem to think she did. I'm comfortable hanging the harridan's actual words around her puffy neck.

Dems are the kings of showy, expensive nonsense while real, legitimate, necessary functions are ignored.

If that were true, the Dems wouldn't actually be so horrible.

The problem is, they don't merely ignore real, legitimate, necessary functions. They actively, aggressive sabotage them.

Clarice Feldman

Iggy, the establishment is really boringly rigid..we know what pabulum and moves their speechwriters and hot shot consultants will offer up. Scott Walker, my favorite in the primaries, turned himself over to these "experts" and they mashed him and his message up and ruined both.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Interesting historical diversion. Pages from a soldier's sketchbook, 1944. Definitely worth 5 minutes of your time.

Robin, the upstate NY one

Hi Stephanie, I asked to join the FB group too. Initials RT.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Clarice,

That was my reaction exactly. My support for him lasted until the first debate, when I realized either he had no real message or it had been ruined by consultants.

They did the same thing to Bob Dole. I saw Dole the last day of the campaign, when he stopped by the airport in Indianapolis in a little appreciated effort to get GOP votes out for the people down ticket. By then he was operating without the killing advice of Mike Murphy, and he was inspiring and witty, something that wasn't seen through most of the campaign.

Old Lurker

Me too on Walker, back in the early days.
