Unlike the investigations that follow many mass shootings, a study of Paddock’s computers, political affiliations, behaviors and finances has not uncovered any clear motive for the attack or any “potential radicalization,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said.
“I get it — we all want answers,” McMahill said. “We have looked at everything, literally.”

The Crewe University station's indie rock programmers have really been banging this song for a while and it caught my attention immediately. I was gonna play the album cut except I saw this live performance and got almost everything I thought about the group wrong (singer isn't blonde and plays guitar, girl drummer and only a trio; everything wrong). Then I thought the place looks familiar and damn if it isn't one of the clubs around here:

New thread?? I'll move this here:

Time to give up on conspiracy theories.

If he acted alone there would be no conspiracy.

If his motive was to upend the 2nd Ammendment by himself, would theorists that weren't looking to find a conspiracy need to give up as well?

2nd amendment guy, hated taxes and govt etc.

I know we believe what the Aussie says the psychopath told the Aussie regarding the 2nd Ammendment. Is there a link that authenticates his hatred of taxes and the govt?

Threadkiller

If I take this quote from the undersheriff:

Unlike the investigations that follow many mass shootings, a study of Paddock’s computers, political affiliations, behaviors and finances has not uncovered any clear motive for the attack

and shorten it to:

Unlike the investigations that follow many mass shootings, a study of Paddock’s behaviors has not uncovered any clear motive for the attack

Huh. Where is the psychopath determination coming from if not from the investigation?

I can do this as well:

Unlike the investigations that follow many mass shootings, a study of Paddock’s finances has not uncovered any clear motive for the attack

The investigation does not suggest that money related issues were motivation.

Looks like all theories are headed tits up.

So how much pressure is being put on the Judge in the Imran Awan IT case to agree with the motions put forth by DWS and by Imran's Attorneys, to declare that the Hard Drive of the computer falls under Attorney Client privilege and therefore should not be looked at by Prosecutors?

Luke Rosiak did a clip on OAN (One America News) and stressed the importance of that decision. In a reasonable world of reasonable people trying to get to the bottom of this case the computer would be open to prosecutors. Since we're in an unreasonable world of corrupt people, and that computer undoubtedly has incredible dirt on Imran, DWS, and about 70 Democratic members of Congress, my guess is the Judge agrees with DWS and blocks access to the Hard Drive.

And Sessions will say nothing.

Any bets?

James D.

I'd really like to see anonamom's pointbrought up at the next White House press briefing g.

"Why does President Trump call what you all do 'fake news?' I think we all saw the answer this week. You all knew, for years, that one of the most powerful men in Hollywood - and a major Democrat fundraiser - is a serial sex offended don't you never saw fit to report it. Just like you knew that John Edwards got his mistress pregnant and bribed a friend to pretend the baby was his, and never reported it until the National Enquirer shamed you into it, and I could cite a thousand more examples. Why should the American people believe a word any of you say about anything?"

James D.

I won't take that bet, daddy. And I don't see how anyone can still defend Sessions after the half-assed (and that's being extraordinarily generous) way the Awan case has been handled to date.

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

I've often heard that the Awan case is leverage against impeachment. As long as it is pending, the dems won't dare impeach Trump because apparently it could bring the entire democrat party down.

Anyone else hearing that?

RattlerGator

Beautiful job this morning by President Trump, properly framing that which cannot be denied -- partisanship -- in a field required by charter to be of public service.

This is another target-rich environment. Here's a quick copy and paste mash-up:

The Communications Act of 1934 requires that broadcast licensees operate in the “public interest, convenience and necessity.”

To give substance to the public interest standard, Congress has from time to time enacted its own requirements for what constitutes the public interest in broadcasting. But Congress also gave the FCC broad discretion to formulate and revise the meaning of broadcasters' public interest obligations as circumstances changed.

The FCC's authority, while extensive, is constrained by traditional First Amendment principles. Government may not censor broadcasters (under Section 326 of the Act), for example, nor may it regulate content except in the most general fashion, such as favoring broad categories of programming such as public affairs and local programming. The FCC can intervene to correct perceived inadequacies in overall industry performance, but it cannot trample on the broad editorial discretion of licensees.

The fundamental legal framework that governs the broadcast industry sets it apart from other media. In broadcasting the federal government grants exclusive free speech rights to licensees, while denying such freedom to others. To justify this privileged treatment, Congress and the courts have mandated that licensees serve as "public trustees" of the airwaves.

The public trustee model has given rise to a distinct genre of First Amendment jurisprudence. Unlike newspapers and magazines, broadcasters have affirmative statutory and regulatory obligations to serve the public in specific ways. Despite the philosophical complications and political tensions that this arrangement entails, the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the public trustee basis of broadcast regulation as constitutional.

Who can honestly say they have discharged their duties well as public trustees? Who ??? They've given little thought, and even less respect, to this duty they owe to us. I think my President just gave us a signal that he's about to SERIOUSLY address this issue.

Calm before the storm ??? Uh, oh !!!

RG,

Some conservatives are sneering that he is supporting the Fairness Doctrine, which when it was negated allowed people like Rush Limbaugh to be on air without equivalent time from an opposing view.

I don't think that is what Trump is concerned with. What the news and entertainment people are doing is shaping the information flow. They spend tons of time on trivial stuff like Melania's heels (ignoring that she changed shoes) and ignore major accomplishments, like the improvement in the economy.

They could be holding the Awan stuff for an election year, but it looks like they need the leverage now.

MM / Davod, this tweet:

More and more people are suggesting that Republicans (and me) should be given Equal Time on T.V. when you look at the one-sided coverage?

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 7, 2017

isn't about a point-counterpoint equal time thing.

It's about blatant partisanship. They supposedly aren't allowed to do that at all. I think he's looking at the case that has already been sufficiently made about the news divisions and their very heavy lean to the left, and he's marrying that conclusion up with the partisanship of the entertainment division now, a perhaps even FURTHER lean to the left.

No one has called them on the carpet for this.

I think that's about to change. And it is going to clear the way for us to finally get a clearly conservative network established in this country.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

RG,

I agree. I think this "we may never know the motive" is pretty much to lull others into thinking they are not under suspicion.

Security has been heightened at events in Indianapolis this weekend, which leads me to believe something is going on. I think that unsealing of the arrests and charges in New York was to provide a reason for the heightened security, when it's really due to Las Vegas.

DebinGA

Vegas Sheriff Lombardo might be a fine fellow, but he's a blabbermouth imo. I was glad the more reticent Under Sheriff was sent out yesterday.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

windansea

No, they aren't. They are simply choosing words carefully.

Yeah, more like they are choosing billboard locations carefully to ask public for help because so far they don't have a clue about motivation of shooter. The Police basically admitted this. I believe them.

RattlerGator

Come on, windandsea, get real. This isn't a TV murder mystery!

With respect to the Las Vegas mass murderer and the LVMPD press conference the other day, the clear word choices I've zeroed in on are these:

[1]

“In the past, terror attacks or mass murder motive was made very clear by a note that was left, by a social media post, by a telephone call that was made, by investigators mining computer data,” Undersheriff McMahill said.

“Today, in our investigation, we don’t have any of that uncovered. I wish we did. We will and are continuing to investigate with great tenacity and hope to arrive at an answer,” he added.

* * *

Okay, the egomaniac apparently didn't leave a note, social media post, or a conclusive telephone call. That doesn't mean he didn't leave a trail of clues.

[2]

As for if Paddock worked alone or had an accomplice, Undersheriff McMahill said he was “confident… there was not another shooter in that room.

“What I cannot confirm to you today, and what we continue to investigate, is whether anybody else may have known about this incident before he carried it out.”

[]

“There’s voluminous amounts of video from many different locations, we have reviewed it. We have not located any other person that we believe to be a suspect at this point,” McMahill explained.

* * *

This leaves open the very real probability they are actively searching for a person or persons who interacted with this guy and may have gone up to the room or visited him / made deliveries to him at the hotel.

And, for the record, this remains the best explanatory (and convincing) theory I've seen:
