Iggy did it.

Good, just saw the same tweet on Varney & Company.

I'm way behind again, but think this article is important (in case it hasn't been posted.)

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I don't know why that tweet didn't show up when I was pulling his tweets this morning, but it is there now. I guess I could blame lack of coffee or bifocals. Anyway, here it is for posterity:

There will be NO change to your 401(k). This has always been a great and popular middle class tax break that works, and it stays!

Captain Hate on the iPhone

The CNBC article mentions the partial participation rate of 401-Ks without pointing out the extremely low rate among blacks, even high earners. Another cultural issue not addressed by Earflaps I.

Here is another gy who sides with RG and me about this whole Russia thing. He's been a long-time on-line friend of mine, who has appeared on various radio programs, has authored a couple of books, and is a history professor. Scroll down until you get to the post numbered 1, and then read up.

Very busy last week, may not have time to go back and read today but did see this comment, Brainiac. And yep, it looks as though your skepticism was warranted. At some point last week I saw a tweet or article or something that indicated Rosenstein was implicated along with McCabe.

As you know, I try to give the benefit of the doubt to the bulk of public servants until circumstances absolutely indicate the benefit should not be extended. Rosenstein being implicated in this foolishness . . . wowza, that would mean President Trump is surrounded by a nest of vipers still worse than I've imagined. It just keeps getting worse. It's enough to practically make a man go on a rampage and march on D.C.

I have continuing solace, however, in the firm belief that Trump knows the deal better than I do and will have planned accordingly.

I'll try and check back in tonight, see what new developments have transpired.

* * *

MM, as always, very glad to see you're still holding down the fort. President Trump is up to the task!

henry

Uh oh, Toyota, Mazda say no to IL because unions. Electric car plant with 4000 workers will go somewhere with right to work laws.

Just as Trumka was celebrating his reelection to head AFL-CIO. ;)

Captain Hate

I'm still trying to figure out how the 401-K story got legs. Although I'm always ready to blame the RINOs for doing their part to grow the beast, my wife, always a tool of the MFM, mentioned it last week from out of nowhere suggesting that Stephy or that Nancy boy hosting ABC Nightly Snooze was pushing that crap.

henry

CH, CNBC started it. they featured a pair of "R" reps saying it was needed to "pay for" the tax cuts. So I assumed it was a Ryan trial balloon.

Captain Hate

Again, henry, you don't have to be as old as I am to remember when it was accepted GOP wisdom to encourage an increased savings rate and lowered dependence on the federal beast. That was before Eddie sat on Barney's frank.

maryrose

Henry:
Ryan trial balloon?
Ah no.
401 ks are one of the few things aye left to save money.

Henry:
Ryan trial balloon?
Ah no.

How can you be sure maryrose??

Not saying it should be attributed to Ryan at all, and the idea that a few RINOs might think it a "good" idea is no shocker. But so far, nothing out there proves Ryan's hands are clean or dirty.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

maryrose,

Ryan is all about bean-counting. I imagine this was an idea to allow them to keep the state tax deductions for California, Illinois, New York, etc.

It could have been an offhand comment that grew legs, or it could have been a trial balloon to see how much outrage it sparked.

I know that you are loyal to the GOP, but even if you don't think there are divisions within the GOP, there are still disagreements on policy preferences.

The whole point of people being upset about this is that it IS the only vehicle for long-term savings with some sort of interest (through stock gains). SOMEBODY thought the proposal up, and since it was 2 GOP congressmen who floated the idea, Ryan is a safe bet.

henry

Deb, so now retirement plans are racist? I guess Cordray will have to seize all 401k and IRA funds and dole them out fairly because of that.

I wonder why, since the Federal Government seems never to mind spending money it does not have, why Tax Cuts are the one thing the Uniparty insist be "paid for"?

Captain Hate

Deb, so now retirement plans are racist? I guess Cordray will have to seize all 401k and IRA funds and dole them out fairly because of that

I was hoping that President Historic First might do some good in addressing the cultural misconceptions underlying the huge gap in participation rates. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, all of them negative, that opportunity never had a chance.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

$14 billion dollar Boeing contract just signed with Singapore. President of Boeing & Singapore rep signed the contracts in front of the press and President Trump and the PM of Singapore.

The house of cards rests on the belief that the serfs are allowed to keep only so much.

narciso

Well Mrs ghilarducci built that.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Administration says Boeing deal will create 70,000 jobs.

Kennedy (not my favorite) on the noon show points out that although the libs said he couldn't operate on the international stage, President Trump is VERY engaged internationally and is getting a lot of agreements, this being one of them.

By the way, the Boeing president looked happy as a clam and got not only a hand shake but a back slap from the president.

matt, deplore me if you must

I doubt the Boeing deal will create jobs, but it sure will keep them. The duopoly have orders going out years and years, (until they don't, i.e. recession).

Where they are vulnerable is in the smaller plane market. Embraer, Bombardier, and the Chinese are now chomping at the bit. That Quebec subsidized Bombardier to the tune of $5 Billion or so is simply A OK according to Trudeau.

SQ is my favorite airline and I'm glad they will be buying lots of Boeings. Not a fan of the A-380.

I agree, OL. The way they've been virtually printing money like toilet paper under Bush and Obama--what's a few billion ones and zeroes more? And I don't mean that facetiously. What difference, at this point, does it make?

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

Anyone know what TM is referring to at JOM in his post?

Clarice, Lovely Miss M, Capn, Derwill, Ledge Lurker, and Henry.... I love you all BINGO.

Of course it was a UNIParty Trial balloon. Did you see our SPEAKER of the HOUSE, decry, denounce or deny it? Did he tell us the mere notion was D.O.A.??
It's come to this. Congress has spent so much more than we take in, that they see the handwriting on the wall. They WILLNOT/CANNOT stop the SLOP and PORK, so they seek YOUR MONEY, YOUR RETIREMENT as principled and frugal citizens, rather than TAXING ALL FEDERAL PENSIONS @ 90% ABSOLUTELY A UNIPARTY TRIAL BALLOON. FO SHIZ.

maryrose

Last time I checked Ryan was Speaker of the House.
Did it come directly from that office?
What explanation has been verbally given from the congressional Republicans about the origin of this idea?
Who sponsored it?Has Dave Camp made a statement about it?

Dave (in MA)

From now on when "climate change" comes up I'm going to tell people I'm sticking with conventional engines because I'm worried about my lithium footprint.

Paul Ryan: I first found out about that 401k plan in the newspapers.

Gus:
Go whiz?
Your proof ?or are we just spitballing here?

maryrose

CH :
Did he say that ?
Or are you equating him with Obama's signature statement?

Captain Hate

The latter. But your constant cheerleading blinds you to being in a leadership role means Ryan will be the focal point of all criticism that he doesn't get in front of. He's very quick to point out "that's not who we are" about others; maybe he needs to look more in the mirror when it comes to House matters.

Old Lurker

I agree, Derwiil.

Seriously, at this point the Wizards of Smart starting with Bush 43 have quadrupled our debt from $5T to $20T with no end in sight, clipping along now at +$6-700B per years. As you say, at this point what does it matter?

I propose a simple "experiment" to prove once and for all whether Laffer or all the smart people were right. Freeze Federal spending at the 2017 level per capita for five years. Cut business taxes to 15%, unlock US$ stashed overseas, and reduce personal taxes to 10%, 15% and 20%.

After five years, see where we are.

maryrose

So mockery and innuendo have replaced facts in our discussions . Good to know.

Momto2

Someone "accidentally, unintentionally" put President Trump's name on a tombstone at an elementary school event in Boston.

How does that work? After it was photographed and sent to the Republican party chairman and AFTER she put it up on social media - THEN they discovered this unintentional accident and apologized (oops!)

Just imagine if this were Obama's name on the tombstone! Does anyone doubt it would be "racist" or that there would be firings involved. No apology letter would satisfy that level of outrage.

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/10/23/president-donald-trump-tombstone-halloween-party-photo-gloucester-principal-apology/

Old Lurker

Of course we are just spitballing Maryrose. But when it comes to Paul Ryan, you just make it way to easy for us.

henry

Some history on republicans targeting 401ks and IRAs in tax laws. Starts with Camp (linked above a ways) through Ryan's "Better Way" to other scary bad ideas.

Ryan does not get the free pass here.

Momto2

So, if I may...

Just this week we have had:

Maxine Waters exclaim she was going to "take out" our President.

A BBC reporter tweeted about the President's motorcade in the context of the Kennedy assassination.

And now - an elementary school is openly displaying a tombstone with his name on it.

I hope everyone is praying for our President's safety. This is very disturbing and seems to be spreading.

Old Lurker

"So mockery and innuendo have replaced facts in our discussions . Good to know."

"mockery & innuendo"? Oh lighten up, Maryrose. Ryan critics have endless facts, actions and statements supporting our disgust with him, and you, you have rarely if ever offered any "facts" to support your undying love affair with the guy, and your unwillingness to ever agree with the mildest of criticisms of him disqualify you as an unbiased observer of things Ryan.

We don't call you names for doing what you do, so why are you throwing around such names at people who disagree with you?

maryrose

He gets a free pass from me until and if I find out this idea originated with him.

Momto2,

One President earlier and it would have been RACIST.

henry

I guess when the various tax writing committees of Congress write tax plan after tax plan with retirement accounts in the crosshairs (linked just above), the buck doesn't stop with Ryan even though he runs the place.

How about that.

Captain Hate

This is like excusing McRINO, Graham and Schooooomer for not having fulfilled their oversight responsibilities over the JEF international dumpster fire and knowing about troops in Niger.

That's not who we are.

But "So mockery and innuendo have replaced facts in our discussions . Good to know." is a bitchy remark designed to shut people up and you know it.

Ryan has not provided a definitive statement saying such an idea has no validity so long as he is SPEAKER. ENDING ANY DISCUSSION about such an idea.

henry

Gee, glad Congress left me that escape clause under SarBox. /sarc.

GUS

Dave, all aninals are EQUAL.

maryrose

Touché Deux?
No statement of what is not going to happen is usually provided .
Meanwhile I am still waiting for proof that the driver of this idea is Ryan.
Oh and the subject of this thread that it is probably NOT going to happen, thanks to objections by posters at JOM.

GUS

Henry, SARCASM has not been UN-APPROVED.

Yet.

maryrose

Dave:
Of course according to the JOM handbook they are allowed.
However it is my understanding that they can't be taken as fact or presented as fact without proper backup.
Perhaps I am wrong.

maryrose

We love your Teddy stories and you provide valuable insight into music and politics and your family.I enjoy your posts and look forward to them.

GUS

You are waiting for PROOF that PAUL RYAN was the author of the 401k trial balloon. That is absurd Maryrose. My kind suggestion is that you HOLD Mr Ryan accountable and responsible for his duties as SPEAKER. If I was speaker, I would shoot down such a FUSTERCLUCK of an idea, so that the PEOPLE would know I have BALLS. For you see, I am SPEAKER and such a MOCKERY of an idea CANNOT go ANYWHERE, without my approval. I'm sure Mr Ryan will be out with a statement disapproving of this shortly.

Appalled

Gee, I'm glad I never really supported Paul Ryan around here. Then my name would be an even worse kind of mud.

In seriousness, the criteria I would use, if I were a Trump guy, was Ryan's success in getting Trump's agenda through. And the House passed Obamacare repeal, and has passed a budget. It's the Senate that's not getting stuff done. The min difference, of course, is the House is majority rule.

Captain Hate

Tammy is blasting the RINOs for going hair on fire about GENERATING REVENUE when they should just cut taxes, see what happens and then make adjustments.

Old Lurker

Maryrose, 99.9% of what we all post here is just opinion. When there is an occasional fact-fact, it is usually linked to something, but even then all of us here decide whether it is fact or not based on where it was published and who wrote it and why.

This place would be empty if we were limited just to provable facts.

But long time posters come to "trust" certain posters more than others, especially in areas where their opinions in the past were later shown to be true. That trust, in some cases, rises to the level of assumed fact. And those posters are the first ones to later post a mea culpa when that they thought was true turns out no to have been.

Nature of the beast.

Nature of Life.

maryrose

OL:
I mostly deal in facts and I review my posts before I enter them.
It was not intended to stop people from posting. I am sorry if it came across that way.
You will not dissuade me from defending those I feel have been wrongfully accused.

The CONGRESS passed a budget??? , I believe that you are suggesting that a SHIT SANDWICH is a SANDWICH NONE-THE-LESS.

Replace a nasty nasty sandwich, with the tastiest shit sandwich in town.

Paul Ryan is a CHEF!!!

GUS

What was RYAN "wrongfully" accused of Maryrose?.
Choose your words carefully, because I will only accept "PROOF" that Ryan was "wrongfully" accused.

See how that works?

Ralph L

A few commenters--well, pretty much all of us--were mighty pleased with Ryan in 2012. But that could have been because only Sara was totally in the bag with Mittens.

Appalled

GUS:

If Ryan had had his way, Trump would not be President. He made that embarrassingly clear (for him) back last October. However, he has done pretty much everything Trump would want him to do, it would seem like. (Can you cite anything he's not doing that's important to DJT?). The problem Trump has with Congress is the Senate, because that is where the stuff he wants is dying.

Extraneus

Without mockery and hyperbole, I'm pretty much tapped out except for Teddy stories.
