Morning

Jane (Stand against the Coup)

Ok! Let's go!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Where are we going?

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

The Week in Pictures: Hurricane Harvey Edition

Jack is Back!

catsmeat,

It is Marquez not Borges, right? "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings".

When I lived in BA I used to go to the Cafe Tortonil, the oldest cafe in the city, where they have a wax stature of Borges:)

JimNorCal

Excellent Week In Pictures.
Personal fave: "if I had a dollar for every gender ..."
I guess I must be a hater

Jack is Back!

...Cafe Tottoni....no L...

Captain Hate

Thanks, JiB; I almost always defer to Catsmeat on literary matters but was drawing a blank on that Borges memory.

Jack is Back!

....I will keep trying....Cafe Tortoni.....Geebus!

JimNorCal

Well, OK then. In the past.
Got it.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/10/13/hillary-clinton-calls-trump-sexual-assaulter-in-bbc-interview-but-says-bills-behavior-in-past.html

“This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated anywhere, whether it's in entertainment, politics,” Clinton said. “After all, we have someone admitting to being a sexual assaulter in the Oval Office.”

Marr responded by pointing out Clinton has dismissed allegations made by women against her husband, former President Bill Clinton, that Trump highlighted during the hard-fought presidential campaign.

“That has all been litigated,” Clinton replied. “That was subject of a huge investigation in the late '90s and there were conclusions drawn. That was clearly in the past.”

Captain Hate

The only thing that's clearly in the past is Slick's attraction to Curb Dive.

JimNorCal

CH 9:23
If, indeed, it ever existed.

Captain Hate

Yes, Jim, I have no insight into what motivates the pervert son of the town whore.

Speaking of whores:

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

The other things in the past are Hillary's presidential prospects, to the extent they ever existed.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

And as I recall the conclusions Hillary drew were things like sexual harassment and assault are of no consequence and women who raise them are liars and tramps.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

One reason Jimmy Kimmel won't touch Harvey Weinstein is he doesn't want his new friends to remember The Man Show he did with Adam Carolla which would now earn him a prog blacklisting.

DebinGA

McConnell's team: "This morning the Senate Republican Conference elected its leadership team for the 115th Congress: Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as Senate Republican leader, John Cornyn (R-Texas) as Senate Republican whip, John Thune (R-S.D.) as Senate Republican Conference chairman, John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) as Senate Republican Policy Committee chairman, Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) as Senate Republican Conference vice chairman, and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) as National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman"

No one from the South? Cory Gardner from CO which Hillary won? John Thune from SD that has a whopping 3 electoral votes and John Barrasso from WY that has 3? Ugh.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

henry,

Are your employees mandated to take YOUR health coverage? I don't know the law. If many of your employees decided to enter into a group association (NRA, alumni associations, PTA member, whatever) and buy insurance through that method, would you still have to buy them insurance? Would they be forced to accept it?

What I am wondering is if there is a backdoor for people like you to get their employees into some other insurance, at least quite a few. You could offer extra pay to cover the costs they would get, plus maybe a bonus if it was considerably cheaper than their ACA coverage.

Like I said, I am unfamiliar with the law. I am just wondering about this portion of the law.

DebinGA

WY has 4 not 3 electoral votes. GA has 16 and we're somewhere in the middle iirc.

JimNorCal

It's been a good week for Trump and America, as expressed last thread.

Part of what's going on, I think, is that as conservatives we tend to avoid stomping on others' freedom. Sure, the rot has been apparent for a long time ... but is it really my job to supervise consenting adults? Now the rot has become life-threatening and still may win. Increasingly common citizens are standing up.

The recent PowerLine article on two CA Dems being shouted down is fascinating. As are the comments.

JimNorCal

re: Deb's note on Repub Senate leadership.
I donated to Thune and was thrilled that he won despite Dem shenanigans. Then I immediately saw articles about him voting for pork for his state. So disappointing! And the fundraising letters kept coming for a long time. An early lesson for me on UniParty.

henry

Miss M, under ACA we have mandated annual reports to show we provide health insurance to our employees. It is a benefit they can choose. If one has a spouse in govt, for example, they would be nuts to go with a commercial plan. More common, they pick whichever spouse's plan has a lower premium/ more goodies. If too few choose ours, we get fined by the IRS (not cheap either). That is the employer mandate. Moving employees off of our insurance might make matters worse, a smaller pool of insured would increase our premiums in any event (by 80% last I looked).

Captain Hate

Thune is a good example of the quiet RINO who usually can be reliably counted on for the right votes but is not a fan of shrinking the beast.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

henry,

That is just crap. I will hope that the GOP asses get their butts moving and re-vote on this. I am positive that revoking those subsidies is a step towards getting them to vote. It will, of course, be slowed by those state AG's who are suing to continue the subsidies to the insurance companies, even though iti's unconstitutional.

Trump did what he could. It's part of the puzzle, and unfortunately your business doesn't fit. I didn't realize you had such a large operation.

So, as Healthcare expert weigh in on trump's moronic plan to stop paying CSR's (Obama did it,he made fun of me at the White house correspondents dinner so I'm going to undo it neh neh neh) it seems that the increase in Government tax credits as a result of stopping the CSR's will in fact make healthcare cheaper and even free for some. The Government's ironically going to spend a hell of a lot more money as it tries to save money.....a hell of a lot more money. The downside is market instability, but that's predicted to correct itself in a couple of years

The GOP really is the stupid party.

Sorry--couldn't attribute "from a friend"

anonamom

Hospitals and insurers were more than happy to support Obamacare when the subsidies were assured.

GOPe didn't have the balls to revoke in whole. Price isn't gone because of the plane rides--he's gone because he lied about the six page bill he had in his drawer to get that done.

Gotta start somewhere.

Reminder--the year my youngest with an income of zero got Obamacare, he had to pay $8000 before dollar one of coverage happened, other than the LONG KNOWN WASTE OF MONEY "annual physical."

He had a card to put in his wallet, that cost nearly $200 a month.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Latest attack on the president: He can't stay focussed. This from a dem on one of the Fox News Saturday business shows.

This is directly related to Corker's asinine attack, which I personally believe is related to the huge amount of money he belatedly declared on his disclosure forms, and "Where did all that money (shipped to Iran) go anyway?"

Clarice Feldman

I'm with MM on Obamacare--I think the uniparty wants to save big insurance and Trump just gave them a kick in the butt to redo health care.

henry

Clarice, "save" as in create a variety of kickbacks to implement single payer under the guise of "market." The govt decides coverage and price, and the vig is apportioned to Congess via the usual methods.

rse

The uniparty likes the vision where government sees to it that all 'human needs' are met because it ensures the flow of federal dollars to every geographic area in this country that would otherwise no longer have the basis for an economy.

These people really do believe much of the economy of the future can be centered on human wellbeing with education and healthcare the two biggest arms with lots of jobs involved.

henry

Meanwhile, lawfare from the usual suspects. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-10-14/democrat-ags-18-states-sue-block-obamacare-subsidy-cuts-who-really-benefits

rse

Think of how many counties in the US have either the school district or hospital as the largest area employer and the other will be 2nd or 3rd. That means there is no actual private economy to speak of.

Clarice Feldman

IMO Trump will not sign single payer or anything else that disrupts his more free mearket approach, Henry.

Harvey's brother Bob drops a MOAB on him. After saying that he has probably spoken to his brother no more than 10 times over the last five years he then gives this direct quote:

I'll tell you what I did know. Harvey was a bully, Harvey was arrogant, he treated people like shit all the time. That I knew. And I had to clean up for so many of his employee messes. People that came in crying to my office: “Your brother said this, that and the other.” And I'd feel sick about it

So 18 States are suing Trump for the crime of "not breaking the Law." Amazing.

anon ( AKA common man )

Jonathan Turley who is definitely a Democrat and a Constitutional law professor says he relishes the AGs doing this since he thinks the outcome will be the same. Its already been litigated once and found to be unconstitutional to pay the sums without congressional appropriation.

If a lower court has ruled on this, what is the purpose of relitigating it? Especially with the current Supreme Court makeup? Oh right, RESISTANCE.

Captain Hate

Salon isn't exactly a bastion of conservatism. Is Thully on the list?

Captain Hate

Ok, against my better judgement I clicked on that Salon link. First of all, it runs so many scripts that it crashes my iPad browser constantly. So I used my phone and the first "conservative" listed was Jarles Chohnson's pet piece of shit Kilgore Trout. That was all I needed to read.

Prayers for my father-in-law are in order for an easy transition. We are hoping for "a smooth landing". He's 91.

Marlene

Good afternoon! Just back from visiting my mother-in-law up north. We took Route 11,which twists and turns thru the woods. Yesterday was a beautiful day, with some great views of Katahdin. Today we stopped for coffee on the way home and a pick-up with a 650 lb. (hubby asked) bull moose in the bed of the truck pulled into the parking lot. Poor dumb moose.

I hit post too quick. Wanted to post that Tom Fitton at Judicial Watch is getting over 30 pages from the FBI on the Lynch-Clinton Tarmac conversation about grandkids and golf. 30 pages the FBI kept denying they had and say the now need 6 weeks to provide.

So much for having Trump's guys at DoJ and FBI. Its not a swamp its a cesspool.

matt, deplore me if you must

Trump just laid a wrecking ball on half a dozen leftist dream projects and they are calling him unfocused. I would say the exact opposite.

That they still don't want to get it is, frankly, appalling. Grown ups who refuse to recognize the facts should have the keys to the Audi taken away forthwith and have a full battery of psych tests done.

There is a condition in mental illness called anosognosia, where the individual does not recognize their illness. There is an epidemic on the Left.

They are squealing louder than stuck pigs about the wrong things.

Actually, I have to say that I'm enjoying it.

Thomas Collins

I am praying today for your father-in-law and his family, sbw.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

matt,

That "Trump isn't focused" criticism comes from people with a one track mind.

To build a skyscraper and get everything finished under budget and ahead of schedule, you have to keep many balls in the air at once.

One of the most difficult thing i learning to cook is getting all ingredients of a meal to get finished at the same time. It takes lots of planning ahead, knowing how long things take to prepare and cook, and keeping track of progress.

Building large buildings has to be infinitely harder. A one-track mind couldn't do it. For example, you wouldn't delay starting the electrical work until the plumbing was completed. Both elements need work done simultaneously, taking care that each trade doesn't get in the others' way.

That is how Trump is operating. All good presidents do so. Trump's extra genius is bringing economics into foreign policy and using it for leverage.

To dim bulbs, this is unfocused. No wonder he's outwitting them.

anonamom

Listening to a program this morning on palliative care mademe so very, very grateful for every single one of my elders' choices in their twilight, my father's especially.

Has Rodham the Ugly Hag EVER said something that is demonstrably true, in her drunken life.

David Axelrod on CNN today wearing his "CNN Senior Political Commentator" hat: “There’s some other thing at play here that I don’t have the qualifications to analyze that clearly motivates him. Because every time he talks about anything that President Obama did, he talks about it in these very caustic terms as if he’s jealous or envious of the esteem with which Obama left office.” ... Along with the "Trump is jealous of BOzo's awesomeness" meme, the Dems are also stoking the "Trump is certifiable" meme.

Catsmeat

CH and JiB are both right--I was writing off the top of my hat. Nice you and perhaps others know it, even though its view of human nature is rather dim.

Deb, it's the BEYONCE factor. Obama was and is an abject clown and fuck up, BUT, BEYONCE and WEINSTEIN luv'd him. It wouldn't occur to someone like AXELKNOB that Trump finds Obama a disgusting little bi-sexual.

It wasn't Trump who devalued a young intern in the Oval Office and personally and publicly outed her by name to all of American twice - once in his public denial of a dalliance "with that woman -Miss Lewinsky" and months later his public admission of wrong-doing with "Ms. Lewinsky".

Hillary Clinton summoned the ghost of Teddy Kennedy for advice on how to deal with the Harvey Weinstein crisis.

BTW, if anyone is interested in a historical perspective of Barcelona and what is going on now, I recommend George Orwell's "Homage to Barcelona". He was a rifleman in the Spanish Civil War (you can guess which side). Its a socialst perspective but then that is what is leading the succession movement.

In the last few days, the temperature (politically) seems to have changed. Perhaps the Trump surge we have been expecting since the inauguration is finally really here--and as for the often disloyal opposition: Russians? are they down to the 25th Amendment? I think our fortunes with this president may be turning strongly for the better--he certainly works his tail off, and he is finding out how he can be even more effectual.
