Not it!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Clarice,

Thanks for that video of Scott Adams! I am bringing the link over so people can see it if they want to.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7dn59jYTJI&feature=youtu.be

Most interesting that Trump's first major was Theater!

Jack is Back!

I just heard from an email that the whole Texan's team knelt during the playing of the national anthem because of their owner's comments "inmates running the prison" or something like that.

I am of the opinion now that we should do away with any signs of flags or anthems at NFL games. Make them fully non-patriotic to fit the mindset of these assholes. They don't deserve the emblem or the song.

And we are destroying our history by tearing down statutes while these SOB's act like a bunch of 1950 hollywood commies.

Texas Liberty Gal

JIB. Do you know what the crowds' response was? Hope the stadium was filled with lusty BOOs

Totally agree.
Complete breakdown in discipline.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

henry mentioned 0Hour's thinking on a previous tweet, about Fusion GPS being CIA. Here is his Twitter feed, which has lots of iteresting connection.

Caution: He's a younger type so he stick in memes and cryptic comments. Still, lots of good information!

https://twitter.com/__0HOUR1_

JimNorCal

I read about that earlier this week. The owner meant to say inmates running the asylum but it came out prisoners running the jail or something.

Enough of the players have records that they took it personal

mad jack

so the team owner says something stupid and the player response is to insult America? these guys are bleeping idjits.

Clarice Feldman

I;ve no doubt that Brennan and Clapper were more than happy to seize upon thie nasty dossier confection , pass on it, use it to get the ball rolling, but it'll take more than that to convince me they financed it--put together the Obama (almost a million dollars) and the Clinton's (more millions though we don't know for sure) to pay a couple of guys to telephone functionaries in Moscow, write it up and pass it around.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Well, I just heard gunshots outside. Seems to have come from just north of me, which either means a small cafe or the Section 8 apartment complex.

Buckeye

I don't think what the owner said was stupid, just not "diplomatic".

Someone needs to remind the players who pays them.

I agree they are idjits..

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Clarice,

This will need a forensic accountant, since Obama had multiple slush funds and I am sure the CIA does as well. Who knows?

What I do feel is accurate is that the CIA Director skated close to the line on political stuff.

anon (AKA common man )

Well we know for sure Obama and Clinton paid Fusion. Maybe that is all the dollars involved and maybe there is more, although for the shoddy garbage they got it seems they have grossly overpaid. But maybe there are some rubles involved too?

anon (AKA common man )

Anyone know the exchange rate for rubles to dollares?

Jack is Back!

Clarice,

But Brennan and Clapper knew what was going on. If they didn't then we need to scrap the IC and come up with a better one. Also, Rogers is a military officer who works for the CinC (Obama at the time). He was bridled by that authority to his. What he did in December at Trump Tower was literally a dereliction of duty when you think about it.

This thing is so deep its lower than whale shit. But I have this feeling that Trump, Sessions and Mattis want to make this an example of treason and why it won't work. Forget frog marches, I want grand juries and all that hoopla.

Buckeye

MM, last night after the game, there was some shotgun blasts in my neighborhood.

No crimes other than discharge of a weapon in the city occurred:)

Buckeye

Clarice,

You posted some emails on Facebook between Clinton campaign and Perkins Coie talking about the money being shipped to Fusion.

What struck me was the reminder that those funds go in the "Operating Account" which is the account used for expenses rather than "IOLTA" where the client's funds go.

For some reason that struck me as a smoking gun, except I can't figure out why.

windansea

apay a couple of guys to telephone functionaries in Moscow, write it up and pass it around.

I was just rereading the dossier again, it is so amateurish and feeble, sprinkle in a few spy acronyms, and they get paid millions for this trash. No wonder they didn't want it published, they just tried to sucker some reporters by referring to the super secret MI6 "dossier"

Captain Hate

Also, Rogers is a military officer who works for the CinC (Obama at the time). He was bridled by that authority to his. What he did in December at Trump Tower was literally a dereliction of duty when you think about it.

I think there was a huge downside not to tell his future boss he was under surveillance until after 1/20.

mad jack

no sympathy from me for the owner as he should have been making that comment to his fellow owners the minute caphole took a knee without consequence last year. that they are only now waking up to this unbelievable disrespect to the country that made them all billionaires (only because it's costing them money) means not enough bad things can happen to them.

Boatbuilder on iphone

If there is any truth to the $145 Mil in donations to the Clinton Foundation by the U1partners every Republican politician should mention it loudly any time a microphone comes near them. There is no amount of obfuscation or legalism that can make it look like anything but graft of epic proportions-with treason thrown in.

Manuel Transmission

Just in time for an open thread, back to the foody/supplements thing.

I mentioned a few weeks ago, that I (and Mrs MT) lost some weight on our cruise to the Balkans even though we ate three big meals a day for two weeks. That led to my speculation about the gut flora/fauna replacement from the different variety available over there.

Since we got back, we coincidently started taking the black seed oil that I think someone here might have mentioned. We were, however, being arm twisted to start it by our work buddy who has been on it for about 6 mo. (The NorCal gang know him by his two lovely daughters.)

Anyway, been losing about a lb/wk since even though we are back to our usual diet, which is pretty normal (except for no sugar, which we have been off of for 10-15 yrs). Two additional factors: 1) the last few days, I get hunger pangs that almost never happen otherwise, and 2) we both are a bit ahem, gassy, which also never happens normally.

So, is this still a result of the fresh dose of gut bugs, or is the black seed oil doing that purge thing that KK was talking about some weeks ago?

I can't find another source on the Goodell tweet - so may be wishful thinking :)

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Nominations for new NF)P head?

Condi Rice has wanted it forever.

Personally, I prefer Rudy Guiliani if he's not needed for the Russian thing.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

NFL head, not whatever I typed.

If I keep making these errors you guys are going to have to decode me like narciso.

Buckeye

Momto2

Interesting! Just this morning I heard a couple of guys on a radio sports channel saying that Goodell had made the owners so much money, no way they would let him go.

Included a recent player.

Has Scott Adams, arbitor of all things we need to consider when it comes to Trumps 400 dimensional chess moves, ever posted a short video?

For someone who seems to know a ton about closing a sale, he sure talks past it by 20min every time.

I now look for the total time of his clips before I hit play.

Sorry but I don't like Scott Adams' videos. Too much filler; someone here* posted a while back that he looks like he's done some chronic ganja. But that's just my opinion

*can't remember who

henry

I don't understand Adams need to go video beyond it uses some app he invested in. However, it may be that millenials don't (or can't?) read thus video is needed to reach them. I don't click on video links unless: a, it's clearly Monty Python; or b, it is music offered by one of my friends here. Adams can just get off my lawn with his vids.

Dave (in MA)

I thought the Adams video was hilarious; you just have to watch up to the point where he starts reacting to comments. His videos are Periscopes that are done live and unedited, but I'm pretty sure there are people posting shorter edits of the best parts.

All I am saying is that it could also be that the Seals discovered the guy was doing some bad stuff and decided to off him.

Either one could be true, but one should not assume.

Catsmeat

Thank you for reminding me earlier of Scholastic Books--that was how I read Snow Treasure, among other things. And to the library I went with my sister and mom every Thursday--we choose 7 books, she choose the 8th (usually things she remembered herself--when I was little that was things like Beautiful Joe, later things like Forever Amber). But I read 'em all, and everything in our large library at home--so doing has been extremely useful to me all my life. And my reading all the Freddy the Pig and Happy Hollister and Bobbsey Twins books doesn't seem to have caused any actual harm!

anon (AKA common man )

Since when do Seals have the right to kill another service member? And military police have the seals as persons of interest.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

anon,

They don't. ALL I was talking about was assignment of motive. He could have discovered something bad about them and they offed him in an effort to cover it up.

Or, they could have gone vigilante on him because HE did something bad.

Neither motive excuses the killing, if they did it. ]

Do you see what I am talking about?

in

I think the Obama million $ payment to fusion opens an entire new door. Why on earth would he contribute unless Hillary had something on him? Clearly he wanted the unmasking, but would have gotten there without paying.

I think there is something bigger we don't yet know about. I just hope the informant has a bodyguard.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Catsmeat,

Beautiful Joe was one of those books I got at Woolworth's in the Whitman copies. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it.

My earliest memory of the public library was getting a large Golden Book hardcover about natural history, which included a chapter on dinosaurs and earth's history.

When I was buying antiques I came across it and kept it for myself. That, along with Roy Chapman andrews' "All About dinosaurs" from the Weekly Reader book club were pretty much instrumental in why I majored in geology.

Ralph L

I just heard about the Chappaquidick movie coming out in December (they should move it up to capitalize on Weinstein et al)

The actor Jason Clarke (Ted) was born on 7/19/69
The crash was on 7/18/69!
Ted was 47, Clarke was 47 when it was made.

Porchlight

I loved Forever Amber. Helped a lot with 17th century history, too. :)

Porchlight

We even named our first family cat Amber, after the character.

Catsmeat

MM, my husband has a treasured copy of Andrews' All About Dinosaurs! Andrews did amazing work finding dino bones in Mongolia, I believe. And the first thing that happens in Beautiful Joe is they cut all the puppies' ears--I had a lot of trouble with that when I was in the second grade! But it has a happy ending, as even does Black Beauty (which also has scads of animal cruelty in it).

Dave (in MA)

The Lion of the Senate --mated without limits and killed without remorse.

Jack is Back!

Back in the Florida house, in Frederick's bedroom's bookshelf, I have all the books of my dad, uncle and aunt from the 1920's and 30's. Need to catalog them some days. One of them, I remember is about a kid who builds a crystal set radio.

My dad never did get use to TV since he was raised on books and radio.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Catsmeat,

"All About Dinosaurs" was one of 6 books I got from the Weekly Reader Book Club, back when their books were hefty and mireadvanced in reading (1950's).

I remembered them so distinctly that over the years I sought them out to add to my collection. (My mother got rid of them all when I was married and living in Berlin.)

I had almost all of them, and then my granddaughter gave me "All About Dinosaurs" as a Christmas gift last year. One of the few times I ever cried receiving a Christmas gift. She knew how much it meant to me.

Jack is Back!

Catsmeat,

Which begs the question, of course, why did you read through your life including university and end up with your convictions versus the other English professor who ended up on the outer bands? I mean, where is the deviation in reading? Does it start with Thoreau and then Orwell or Sinclair Lewis or Dos Passos ? Lots of lefties out there to turn the screw but also we have the C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkeins and others on the other side.

An interesting question as to how you turned our way from reading when the majority of your colleagues went the other way.

Catsmeat

Well, my father was a conservative classical prof, whose specialty was Cicero and who had spent his time in the Air Force in eastern Turkey, eavesdropping on Russian pilots and in his spare time taking good photographs of the many classical ruins about. He and my mom were for Goldwater (this in Georgia at the time). I read NR religiously from about the age of 12 (I loved the Trans-O-Gram). I read Lewis, Tolkien, Orwell, Why Does Ivan Read and Johnny Can't, classic conservative tomes of the '50s whose name escape me, but certainly Witness; we went to church every Sunday and I was a serious Christian (still am, though a Bible as Literature course at Yale almost turned me--fool I was to take the professor's word as writ!). My family dog was "Buckley" (ironically, a very stupid Lhasa Apso), and I once shook the hand of WFB. That's a start....

Catsmeat

OH, and I did in fact like Dos Passos, though the style got a little old after a while as did the social posturing. Thoreau I could peg as not really having Christian values and thus I wasn't as impressed (this was not true about Emerson, who lacked the same and yet who is super-wise about the human condition and very humble...)

Ralph L

Has anyone read one of the Mark Tidd books from the 20s or 30s?
Marcus Fortunatus Tidd, if that jogs your memory.
My dad has one somewhere, and an old Tom Swift.

sbw

We have old Tom Swifts, Hardy Boys, and Tom Corbett, Space Cadet.

Love the original Tom Swifts. Great technology.

Jack is Back!

That's a damn good explanation. I knew a lot of guys on the radio/radar intercept sites in Turkey. One of my ROTC classmates ended up there after going to Monterey to learn Russian. Only took him 6 months and he was fluent.

Was you dad also?

Deplorable Honoria

Dear Clarice,
Totally off topic, but how can I contact you about the Thermamix? My husband and I were thinking about it for about a year, and we reached a point when we are serious about getting one.
I mostly lurk here and post occasionally. Honoria is my third handle.
I tried once to get in touch with DrJ, but somehow the email he provided bounced.
Respectfully,
Honoria

Catsmeat

He'd wanted to fly (later in life he got a pilot license), but based on the aptitude tests they sent him to Syracuse to learn Russian (he's really good at languages and reads a Russian newspaper online every day still at 86). He says that all he heard was the equivalent of "How are tricks, Boris" and "Nice sunny day up here, Ivan" and the like, but he also told us he took an oath not to tell anyone anything and he wasn't going to do it (he hasn't). So it may have all been boring or not!

Who needs football when you have a Star Wars-a-thon on TNT. Carrie Fisher is running the rebellion and Luke Skywalker is starting his heroic quest in the frozen land of whatever star they are on now.
