I agree getting Tax Cuts approved is important (we will also get HealthCare), but perhaps no Administration has done more in its first....

...9 months than this Administration. Over 50 Legislation approvals, massive regulation cuts, energy freedom, pipelines, border security....

Looks like more is coming.

Buckeye

Buckeye, who are you rooting for in the Meeechigan game? I just can't root for the pervert enablers who feel that they were the victims, not the abused children. If Harbaugh loses to that dickweed Franklin, they should kick his ass from Happy Valley to Ann Arbor.

I want Penn State to win ONLY because if they loose they will be loaded for bear next Saturday.

I hope Michigan roughs them up.

How interesting! John O'Hurley, who played J. Peterman on Seinfeld, is a conservative. He is on Waters show talking about the hatred for Trump and how he refuses to give up his standards. He supported Trump and has been called a white supremacist.

He has a new movie coming out called "Swing Away" about a golf tournament and says he channeled Donald Trump the businessman on steroids. Clip looked funny.

He also hosts the National Dog Show over Thanksgiving. What a charming and funny guy!

Don't understand the Lis Wiehi/ Bill OReilly kerfuffle.
He used to have her on his show when she was plugging a book.

Here's an interesting read by some New Jersey reporter making the case that Senator Bob Menendez probably needs to take the Witness stand himself and testify in order to make his excuses more believable. Why Bob Menendez should take the witness stand

What is interesting – and different from many bribery cases – is that Menendez does not deny that he received a stream of gifts from Melgen, who has since been convicted in a separate federal trial of Medicare fraud and now sits a few feet from Menendez in the windowless, fourth-floor courtroom at the Newark federal courthouse.

Menendez also does not deny that he tried to intervene on Melgen’s behalf in helping to gain visas for the doctor’s alleged foreign girlfriends and in a dispute with U.S. regulators over Medicare bills at Melgen’s ophthalmology practice in West Palm Beach, Fla. and in an attempt by Melgen to secure a port-security contract for a non-medical business investment in the Dominican Republic...

...Menendez counters...– that these gifts and, on some level, the favors by the senator were just a natural extension of a long, intimate and deeply genuine friendship.

Menendez says he was merely going about the task of helping a buddy deal with the complications of the federal government. It didn’t matter whether Melgen offered any sort of gift or not, Menendez’s legal team says. All those gifts were just gifts between good pals – nothing more.

The reporter argues that the Defense Witnesses that Team Menendez has trotted out to sell that story (his wife, his son) have failed to effectively make the sale for such a wonderful case of "good-buddy"ism. So if Menendez is going to rely on that stinker of a story he's going to have to take the Stand and try to sell that load of hogwash to the Jury all by himself.

"Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine took advantage of the state’s lax gift laws to receive an $18,000 Caribbean vacation, $5,500 in clothes and a trip to watch George Mason University play in the NCAA basketball Final Four during his years as lieutenant governor and governor, according to disclosures he filed.

Now a leading contender to be Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Kaine reported more than $160,000 in gifts from 2001 to 2009, mostly for travel to and from political events and conferences, according to disclosures compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project. The givers included political supporters, a drug company that soon after bought a facility in Virginia, and Dominion, the state’s biggest provider of electricity."...

Narc from the last thread;
--I think it was the jugoslav milovan djilas who coined the term. But yes its generally referred to the in the eastern bloc.--

I think Djilas came up with "New Class" which considering Marx's critique of the class system was particularly needling to the commies.
I remember Djilas in the great Encounter magazine in the 80's. A powerful, commanding voice in the fight against the totalitarians, having spent several years in Tito's pokey.

Re Sqd's comments, the use of Leviathan I most often see these days refers not so much to Hobbes's description nor even so much to USSR type totalitarianism but the vast, suffocating nanny/welfare/administrative/regulatory states of the EU, Japan, increasingly the US.
The Nomenklatura as I understand it were the top echelons of communist party autocrats and administrators in the Eastern bloc. Don't know that I ever heard it applied to China. So its use re the West seems to fit the description of a vernacular usage, which I thought you had noted yourself a day or two ago.
In any event neither usage of either word seems too momentous.

Re The Great Upheaval; daddy, I have not read it because it involves neither interesting cars nor fine old guns and alternately was not written by Wodehouse or God, so that kind of leaves it off my reading list, such as it is. :)

Ted Stevens Via WiKi:

On May 29, 2007, the Anchorage Daily News reported that the FBI and a federal grand jury were investigating an extensive remodeling project at Stevens's home in Girdwood. Stevens's Alaska home was raided by the FBI and IRS on July 30, 2007.[65] The remodeling work doubled the size of the modest home. Public records show that the house was 2,471 square feet (230 m2) after the remodeling and that the property was valued at $271,300 in 2003, including a $5,000 increase in land value.[66] The remodel in 2000 was organized by Bill Allen, a founder of the VECO Corporation—an oil-field service company—and was alleged by prosecutors to have cost VECO and the various contractors $250,000 or more.[67] However, the residential contractor who finished the renovation for VECO, Augie Paone, "believes the [Stevens's] remodeling could have cost—if all the work was done efficiently—around $130,000 to $150,000, close to the figure Stevens cited last year."[68] Ted Stevens paid $160,000 for the renovations "and assumed that covered everything."[69]

They had a clip of one of the top MSCCCP propagandists 'splainin that Kelly is Irish Catholic from Boston, ergo a racist and that of course empty barrel is a well known racist term. It had me spitting nails at 7:00AM and Querida had to send me to the showers to calm me down.

CH, it isn't rocket science.

Key item is a propane fired "bigass burner" to do the bigger batches, we did them out on the patio. The ones people use to deep fry turkeys are perfect.

A few carboys, airlocks, etc. Couple hundred bucks and you are in business.

daddy

Daddy, I've read that with the MD, it's necessary to push the nose down in the flare?

Another Bob,

I just got out of the new 2017-2018 Training Syllabus 2 weeks ago and these are the 3 New Rules they pounded into us over and over and over again in the SIM:

Rule #1
Do Not Flare Late

Rule #2.
Do Not Make Large Control Inputs during the Flare

Rule #3.
Use EXTREME caution when pushing on the control column close to the ground.

They added a ton of verbiage and classroom charts for each rule but they are adamant about not pushing over close to the ground and especially after the mains have touched. The MD-11 is squirrelly in the landing pattern just due to its design geometry and relatively smaller tail compared to the DC-10. I love it, but it is not a very forgiving airplane, which I think is why the only guys on the planet still flying passengers in the thing is I think the Russians.

daddy

Gad, Momto2. Me and Tapper on the same side? Arghhh!

Captain Hate

I guess, to give the devil his due, I have to thank Katshit for not vetoing the bill to lift the 12% alc ceiling on beer sold in Ahia; because what I drank tonight would otherwise have to be smuggled in surreptitiously. God knows what inspired the old prude to do that; maybe somebody had some John Lee Hooker on in the background and Johnnycakes misinterpreted the Hook as saying "and Saint Peter said let that boy boogie woogie" and the rest is history.

daddy

Heading up for a nap now since I'm doing a 2 AM'er tonight to Melvis.

Another question. Since all these guys like Manafort and various Russians were under listening watch, do you guys think that the Deep State has the tapes of that meeting between Manafort, Kushner and Trump Jr and those Russians? My guess is probably, since I think the entire thing was an intentional set-up. I know that I sure wouldn't put it past them.

maryrose

Daddy:
Ted Stevens case was an abomination.
They also timed it for the election.
I never considered Begich a real Senator because he obtained the seat by fraudulent means.

boatbuilder

This Sox fan says Altuve can play for my team any time. Little guy is damn good.

Captain Hate

Really didn't have anything against the Yankees for how they handled the Tribe, and in fact respected how they came back after game 2. But them being in the WS would have been overly flukey imo and I think the WS will be a satisfying matchup of two deserving teams who performed well over the entire season.

Porchlight

But if I'm home and want something with a big taste...

I drink the lower alcohol beers at home, too. It sounds lushy but if I want to be sipping beer steadily all evening and not get too far gone, that's the ticket. My husband drinks light beer from Miller for the same reason, but although I hate snobbery of any kind, I'm afraid I must draw the line somewhere.

Here again is Lord Nelson's jacket he was wearing at Trafalgar that I mentioned seeing last month. Worth repeating how Winik in Great Upheaval said that Nelson's earlier victory over the French Fleet at the Battle Of The Nile in IIRC 1799, effectively ended the threat of France's invading America, giving us a wonderfully unexpected breathing spell that allowed us to build up our Naval forces while avoiding getting wrapped in the "foreign entanglements" that Washington and Adams so feared, and ultimately resulting in Napoleons offer to Jefferson of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.

Thank you Lord Nelson!

Comment on AT---

Thomas,

Here is my letter to Session from yesterday:

"Honorable Sir, Mr. Jeff Sessions

It is time that you set aside politics and prosecute many of the Obama regime officials, namely Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder and Obama himself for the Rosatom fiasco that is unfolding in the news as a grave, national security matter. No one is above the law and that includes Obama who the Constitution holds responsible for every act of his administration. By the way it was ran it was more of a regime that took our cherished rule of law and justice and turned into JustUS, where law was used to personally profit from as the Rosatom affair clearly shows, and to punish political enemies.

You have a unique rendezvous with destiny in this matter and you will be judged by our posterity whether you rose to this challenge or not, history is a cruel master and one you should heed.

We are at a turning point in our experiment in self-rule and providence has chosen you to restore the rule of law which has taken such a beating that it is now in need of refurbishing and to reestablish the rule of law itself. What we have become is a two tiered state where there is law for the people to be
made to suffer and the governing class to be pardoned before the process is even started.

It has become that we are no different than the show trials of the defunct USSR and there is no better example of this than the Comey affair where he usurped the authority of the Attorney General and pardoned her.

As I said before providence has chosen you this sacred duty and honor, as their is no better man that has faithfully served his nation in many capacities US Attorney, Senator and host of other honors, it is now our hour of need stand and do your duty and prosecute this matter and fulfill your destiny that awaits you and the people demand that you act, stand and do your duty."

This week's attack on President Trump by his predecessors is a sign of desperation. Somebody called in his markers and got Bush to speak. He spent eight years in silence, unwilling to defend himself from Obama ...

Denounce the fascist Antifa first. But Antifa serves Washington well, just as Occupy Wall Street gave cover to the equities industry that Obama served. ...
Bush has befriended the people who called him Hitler -- Bushitler -- and a monkey. His father called Reaganomics "voodoo economics," but befriended the Clintons. ...

President Trump is the result of their neglect of the American people. They served the elites.
