Away we go?

Porchlight

Good morning, all.

Keep the heat on Sheriff Israel. His Hugs4Thugs program needs to be exposed as the predictably disastrous and corrupt Obama scheme that it is.

Away? Nice sunny day here. I stay at home.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/02/25/trump-reelection-2020-approval-ratings-217037

This is a strange article. It outlines Trump's successes but the overall theme seems to be that he is extremely lucky.

It's written by a former speechwriter for Bush 43. I can't tell if it is tongue in cheek or sincerely begrudging of what he perceives as luck, but what most of us believe is a willingness to fight and not accept crap criticism and bogus charges.

Jack is Back!

Rain, rain, go away,
Come back another day.

Just a wet cold day here in the Hamptons.

Next Saturday, its the NHL Winter Classic from Nav-Marine Corp Stadium at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Maple Leafs v. Capitals. Wish I was there.

I see where CNN has decided to provide moral support to Sheriff Israel and the Sheriff Department. Its all about guns not prevention, protection or process. And the media wonders why we consider them as corrupt as the politicians they protect.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

http://www.weeklystandard.com/the-apotheosis-of-donald-j.-trump/article/2011608

This is Erick Erickson's review of the book "The Faith of Donald Trump."

I got to the part where apparently men like Franklin Graham and Mike Huckabee have been corrupted (Erikson's words) for supporting Trump.

This has been my argument with Erickson and his group for some time. They do not understand the concept of "Defender of the Faith." Evangelicals, while they pray daily, I am sure, for Trump's whole-hearted conversion, they chose to side with a man who would leave them alone to worship and practice their faith.

He has appointed many evangelicals to positions of high power, including Ben Carson and Betsy DeVos. Mike Pence is the Vice President.

I am SO out of patience with this sour grapes "perfect Christian" attitude. Erickson is one of the worst.

Captain Hate

a willingness to fight and not accept crap criticism and bogus charges.

Something the Bushes and their toadies felt was beneath them.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Jack,

We finally have sunshine here after a WEEK of rain, cold, and dreary skies. Hang in there.

Momto2

Because I won't watch CNN - gathering snippets from Twitter from the Tapper/Israel interview:

Legal Insurrection

@LegInsurrection

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel just admitted on @jaketapper that he knew of reports Deputy didn't enter school at time of CNN town hall @DLoesch

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Captain Hate,

I would like to see how that idea of "ignoring the criticism and rising above it all" came to be accepted political behavior for Republicans.

What evolved was a system where the noble Republican was made to look guilty because he chose not to dignify questions and ignored criticism. That's how they took Bush 41 out.

DebinGA

Tying all the loose threads together- DOJ-FBI-WH - "Operation Latitude" - and introducing pivotal BOzo WH player Lisa Moraco, former Mueller chief of staff.

Captain Hate

Willowed

Ol' Yeller on Friday praised Manafort for vowing to fight Mueller's police state tactics, which may well bankrupt him, to prove his innocence. What Mueller is doing is a disgrace to the country, and I'm tired of the apologists, looking right at McCarthy and DeGenova, providing cover for him. The FBI became useless under him and he's a bum who belonged more in the Stasi.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Momto2,

That is what I am doing. It's possible Sundance will post portions on Conservative Treehouse. I will check periodically.

Momto2

Great thread for dog lovers!

Captain Hate

Bush 41 was a terrible President, added to the Reagan ticket to keep the Romneys from jumping ship or staying home in a spiteful snit. Once in office he revealed himself as a hapless squish determined to undo as much of Reagan's agenda as possible. No wonder Perot rose up subsequently as every conservative got torpedoed.

narciso

Ah yes beeks I mean Latimer, started out as a speech writer for Rumsfeld, the latter's pugnaciousness didn't rub off, had some agita over the hutress in his hastily published memoir, had some second thoughts subsequent

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

What that peahen Latimer is apparently too stupid to recall is nearly every word he wrote about Trump is what the progs and the GOPe [then called country club or Rockefeller Republicans] wrote about Reagan.

Captain Hate

Love that story about Trackpad. Instead of being clueless tightasses about it, the brass should probably include rabies vaccine with medics to protect the mascots the troops adopt.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Deb's 10:07 is a pretty compelling and easily followed argument.
I guess progs consider Benedict Arnold a founding father.

Clarice Feldman

Getting rid of Sheriff Israel would be a first step--it's time to consider all the federal directives on school discipline, reporting statistics of school crime, all outcomes measurements and scrapping them--they are simply providing incentives to school administrators to cheat and undermining education,

Momto2

Does CNN take down YouTube snippets of their broadcasts? I was posting a snippet of Tappe/Israel interview and it suddenly went away.

I was pleasantly surprised at how Tapper went after him (must be the stopped clock scenario!)

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Another massive failing of W, who teamed up with the Lardass of the Senate to further insinuate the Feds into education.
He grows smaller every day and I hope someday is recognized by the right as a worse and more destructive to their cause president than his father was.

rse

Miami-Dade and Broward Counties as well as Atlanta public schools are all TUDA districts who have adopted an experiential curriculum instead of a subject-matter curriculum. That was why even the weak crct's were too much for aps students. They changed the nature of the curriculum, but were still stuck with older forms of assessment. Hence the cheating.

Florida, on the other hand, has assessments that are grounded in David Webb's work on "intellectualizing experience" and its assessments simply fit the experiential curriculum better. The Broward students have been taught to make gun control the remedy for school violence. The social science term is conceptual lens and the students have been taught to use it to interpret their lived experiences. Racism, white privilege, inequality are all conceptual lenses hyped as interpretive devices to guide future action by the students.

They have been actively taught they are entitled to demand political remedies for perceived social problems and inequities.

rse

Clarice-the federal directives come in most often under Equity in outcomes demands of civil rights laws. If the federal directives went away though, in Georgia we have the State org of School Supers and the one representing the same thing for school boards demanding the curriculum used create the same equity in outcomes.

So does a checklist used by local chambers of commerce that was actually created by Knowledge Works. It is tied to richard riley, clinton's ed sec.

Captain Hate

apparently men like Franklin Graham and Mike Huckabee have been corrupted (Erikson's words) for supporting Trump.

Like Fatboy and Billyboy got corrupted by Egg McMuffin? Projection must be a main course on the Weakly Standard's cruise feedbag.

Beasts of England

Hugs4Thugs - didn't this apply to angelic Trayvon Martin, as well? Isn't this the same damned school district? I believe Sundance expose this diversion program several years ago...

DebinGA

According to this, Broward County policy nixed storing rifles in schools. I wonder if the Peterson Gang even had access to body armor? If not, I can see their reluctance to rush in against a crazy kid spraying bullets.

Momto2

They have been actively taught they are entitled to demand political remedies for perceived social problems and inequities.

And apparently, they have been taught well as evidenced by the marches, media interviews, walk-outs, etc.

Clarice Feldman

Yes, BOe

riley's law firm also represents many of the school districts in metro atlanta, which explains why school board members get explanations not grounded in facts but rather desired new policies to change the nature of ed.

The list of approved school board attorneys is a subsidiary of the state group representing school boards, the same one mandating the Equity and Excellence curriculum. Those attorneys get their cle at closed meetings of the state school board meetings. Very circular way to make information provided a closed loop.

Captain Hate

Why didn't the Vegas shooting get all these Town Halls and wall to wall coverage by the MFM? I'm not shutting up about this until I get some answers.

Erick Erickson is a complete shitheel who uses his show on WSB to brag about going to a seminary and to beg for airtime on CNN and MSNBC.

I don’t care about either fat boy. The good news is we have a fantastic sports talk show on when he’s spewing is fierce conservatism.

Clarice Feldman

Iggy, whatever Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn childhood did for you, it worked. And I don't believe you goofed off in school--you're much too smart..wsait--maybe you got those smarts wandering around and just learning things on your own.

Jack is Back!

Momto2's 10:08 reminded me of a book Frederick read over the summer a few years back: "The Dog Who Could Fly". Takes place during WW2 and a Czech or Polish fighter pilot is shot down in France, finds this dog and keeps him, gets rescued and joins the RAF in England. Takes the dog on all his missions.

Great book for kids or dog lovers.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Isin't it amazing how no one in the media has mentioned that Trayvon Martin came from the same school district? If it hadn't been for Sundance, I wouldn't know that.

rse,

The entire system is so messed up I simply don't know how it's going to be fixed. Vouchers were a good first step but we have a whole bunch of underclass kids whose parents wouldn't bother to take advantage of that option due to convenience or ingnorance or whatever. (This is not racial, as there are underclass white areas as well.)

If anyone watched Mulvaney's speech this morning, he reminds me of an excellent econ teacher I had in high school who could explain things without using pedantic terms.

We need those types of people as teachers.

I was talking to my daughter about this the other day as both my mother, and one set of grandparents, as well as my one sister (now retired) were teachers.

My grandmother taught 5th grade for almost her entire career in one elementary school in our township. She was one of those teachers that wore black lace-up Oxfords and always wore a suit. She was not very touchy-feely, but ran her classrooms of 40-45 kids (Baby Boom) with an iron fist. Firm yet fair, I cannot tell you how many of my classmates told me that she was the BEST teacher they ever had because they learned so much.

We have too many teachers now who don't know how to enforce discipline and demand academic standards. It's just so sad.

Beasts of England

Thanks, Clarice!

And why weren't there any town halls after the Bernie Bro tried to assassinate a dozen Reps at the softball field?

DebinGA

Hmm? If Broward Co. firefighters responding in high crime areas are just now getting bulletproof vests, why should we think school resource officers have them? And they're paid for via asset forfeitures, rather than as a budget item? Sheesh.

I thought Trayvon Martin was North Dade county school kid, not Broward.

176 Sheriff Israel was interviewed by Tapper today. Asked if the shooting could have been prevented if his department had done a better job he said:

"If ifs and butts were candy and nuts OJ Simpson would still be in the record books."

In addition to quite possibly being the dumbest thing any carbon-based lifeform has ever said . . .

OJ Simpson is, in fact, still in the record books.

If we are going to have an honest discussion on guns and gun types, lets discuss why we have the 2nd amendment. I was not to shoot varmints or ducks or even people in self defense. It was to shoot groups of people who might attempt a hostile take over of our government after all other safeguards had failed. The appearance of the gun or weapon is irrelevant

Momto2

CH - I did not see your post before my 11:24 but it has the video of him saying it. What in the world is wrong with this guy? He has some false sense of bravado that he can swagger onto a CNN stage or a Sun. morning TV show and say anything with impunity!

It’s found elsewhere, Beasts. The problem is that with gov’t employees, we have to pay for it. And they have the power to ruin our lives (or in the case of LEOs, end them) with basically no accountability.

The NYT managed to find an ex-marine who thinks having armed teachers is "absurd." See, even an ex-Marine thinks Trump is foolish, people!

What's particularly galling, and embarrassing, is that he cites Ft Hood and the Washington DC Navy Yard as "heavily armed institutions" that experienced mass shootings. He must know that soldiers are not allowed to carry weapons at those facilities. What a scum.

Broward County FL Sheriff Israel Responds to Parkland Shooting Critics: ‘I’ve Given Amazing Leadership’

TAPPER: Are you really not taking any responsibility for the multiple red flags that were brought to the attention of the Broward Sheriff’s office about this shooter before this incident, whether it was people near him, close to him calling the police?

ISRAEL: I can only take responsibility for what I knew about. I exercised my due diligence. I’ve given amazing leadership to this agency.

TAPPER: Amazing leadership?

ISRAEL: Yes, Jake. There’s a lot of things we’ve done throughout this — this is — you don’t measure a person’s leadership by a deputy not going in to — these deputies received the training they needed.

TAPPER: Maybe you measure somebody’s leadership by whether or not they protect the community. You’ve listed 23 incidents before the shooting involving the shooter, and still, nothing was done to keep guns out of his hands, to make sure that the school was protected, to make sure you were keeping an eye on him — I don’t understand how you can sit there and claim amazing leadership?

ISRAEL: Jake, on 16 of those cases our deputies did everything right. Our deputies have done amazing things. We’ve taken this — the five years I’ve been sheriff, we’ve taken the Broward Sheriff’s Office to a new level. I’ve worked with some of the bravest people I’ve ever met. One person at this point, one person didn’t do what he should have done. It’s horrific. The victims here — the families, I pray for them every night. it makes me sick to my stomach that we had a deputy that didn’t go in because I know if I was there if I was on the wall, I would have been the first in along with so many of the other people.

This asshole needs the hook now. Glad he lasted long enough to do this interview.

We have a Fox Butterfield sighting at WaPo:

JERUSALEM — When students, parents and teachers pleaded with President Trump this week to act against school shootings, they cited Israel, a place where guns are a familiar sight but where school shootings are virtually unheard of.

Of course, being the WaPo, it goes on to emphasize that teachers are generally not armed, that private gun ownership is not commonplace, etc. But here's the clincher, just mentioned in passing: "Most schools maintain only one unlocked entrance that is typically staffed by an armed guard."

Yet the writer wants us to believe that the reason school attacks don't happen in Israel is that private gun ownership is uncommon.
