Captain Hate

That [Redacted for Lent] Curious Tahiti trip/cabana boy encounter site article is a year old.

Miss Marple

Sorry Captain Hate. I didnt notice the date.

I didnt remember him going, so I just assumed it was new.

Robin

I keep thinking that Forbes article with the Democrat’s tax hike plan is the Onion in disguise.

Robin

I’ve been operating under the theory that “fake news” is about keeping Democrats on the reservation more than anything else. My FB feed is full of it, easy way to deny reality.

Congrats daddy.

I would say Madjack’s comments about the skiing was fake news but I can’t. Alas. On the way to Killington for same more powdah as I write this. Yeehah!

MM, no more excuses!!! You've given that one for months. ;-)

It is not more expensive, because you are going to save a whopping amount of money on health care.
You also will not need dementia care--

Money-saving moves: big bags of frozen vegetables, eggs (as noted above). Cabbage is not expensive.

If you feel like you aren't getting enough calories, find somebody with a Costco card and get the big jar of Carrington Farms organic coconut oil they sell for about $20, and use that to increase your caloric intake. 100 extremely healthy and inexpensive calories per table spoon, and palatable enough that you can either add it to a hot drink, or just eat it.

And I'm guessing if you drop three packs of cigarettes a week, you'll have $72 more each month for food... stopping altogether will give you how much???

And no more deference to that daughter of yours. You are the wise momma--stop being afraid of her. You've well documented that she isn't exactly a logical/rational thinker--don't even tell her what you are doing, and she may not even notice.
Besides--she stands to benefit the most. If she does this now, she'll enjoy great health, preserve her fertility, and greatly decrease her chances of dementia.

And if YOU stay healthy and don't get demented---SHE benefits from that. Elder care is an extreme burden, psychologically even if not physically. Not to mention the financial cost!

Just DO IT! You'll be happy you did--the lack of aches and pains is amazing, as is the energy.
I promise.

Those expensive supplements KK sent will be even more effective if you do what you can to eliminate inflammation.
You need to make as big an investment and commitment to your health as he is.

rse

I am moving over a'mom's post from predawn because it is so helpful.

MM, your sister needs to print this and give it to her doctor, the one who got her to eat that low fat diet. (If that's where that came from.)
The most read article from British Medical Journal this past year:

http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/51/15/1111

First paragraph; my bolding:

Coronary artery disease pathogenesis and treatment urgently requires a paradigm shift. Despite popular belief among doctors and the public, the conceptual model of dietary saturated fat clogging a pipe is just plain wrong. A landmark systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies showed no association between saturated fat consumption and (1) all-cause mortality, (2) coronary heart disease (CHD), (3) CHD mortality, (4) ischaemic stroke or (5) type 2 diabetes in healthy adults.1 Similarly in the secondary prevention of CHD there is no benefit from reduced fat, including saturated fat, on myocardial infarction, cardiovascular or all-cause mortality.2 It is instructive to note that in an angiographic study of postmenopausal women with CHD, greater intake of saturated fat was associated with less progression of atherosclerosis whereas carbohydrate and polyunsaturated fat intake were associated with greater progression.3

and let's take a good look at that last sentence:
It is instructive to note that in an angiographic study of postmenopausal women with CHD, greater intake of saturated fat was associated with less progression of atherosclerosis whereas carbohydrate and polyunsaturated fat intake were associated with greater progression.3

Short version---(processed) carbs kill

rse

Now I will add why I moved it. I have a sibling who has always had a lousy diet (let's have 2 helpings of refried beans instead of any rice on my mexican platter). Got a nuclear treadmill test and now doc wants to do arthrogram and possibly stent this week.

I am upset because if the problem is his diet the procedure will add dollars to the coffers of the hospital and his doc, but do nothing for him, except he will not realize that.

Short articles like that one may get his or my husband's attention. My family laughs at my mag water, apple cider vinegar, goats milk yogurt, or now walking backwards to try to retrain my leg muscles not to limp.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

OK, OK anonamom.

I will start with what I have in the freezer and make a grocery list.

No orange juice, I suppose.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I should explain how I got that article about Obama being in Tahiti.

I was reading one of those Q threads and it said "Exits are being closed. Marshall Islands have been removed."

Someone asked about it and posted that article to explain it had been an Obama avenue of escape.

Someone also pointed out that Tillerson has been in Kenya.

I have no idea if any of that is true or if it is someone's imaginative thinking. The Daily Mail article caught my attention so I grabbed it.

I will try to be more careful. There is so much to keep track of that it confuses things if an old story gets dragged in like it's recent.

NRA v. Bondi:

"...For example, in 2015, women in this age group accounted for only 1.8% of arrests for violent crime, while males in the same age bracket accounted for 8.7% of such arrests—and males between the ages of 21 and 24, who may lawfully purchase firearms under current law, accounted for 9.2%..."

While ready to rage against Liberals and Democrats, it seems many only have a tepid response to fighting for rights. Sad.

With Governor Rick Scott signing the bill into law, hundreds of thousands of people lost rights - they were usurped with the stroke of a pen. If you read the bill, I believe you would have seen just how bad a law this would make.

Now, precious resources will have to be expended to gain back these rights.

When will Republicans learn? When you walk away from your base, you lose elections!

We are deeply saddened by the tragic situation in Yountville and mourn the loss of three incredible women who cared for our Veterans.

PDinDetroit

FAIRFAX, Va. – The National Rifle Association today announced that it has filed a lawsuit challenging the State of Florida’s newly-enacted ban on the purchase of firearms by young adults between the ages of 18-21.

Florida’s ban is an affront to the Second Amendment, as it totally eviscerates the right of law-abiding adults between the ages of 18 and 21 to keep and bear arms. The ban is particularly offensive with respect to young women, as women between the ages of 18 and 21 are much less likely to engage in violent crime than older members of the general population who are unaffected by the ban. Despite this fact, the State of Florida has enacted a sweeping law banning all young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 from purchasing any firearm from any source. Chris Cox, the Executive Director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, stated, “Swift action is needed to prevent young adults in Florida from being treated as second-class citizens when it comes to the right to keep and bear arms.

We are confident that the courts will vindicate our view that Florida’s ban is a blatant violation of the Second Amendment.” The case is National Rifle Association of America, Inc. v. Bondi, and it has been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida.

Janet 🚬 - I wish my family had a poncho

Former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson - “It’s easy to look at what’s happening in Washington, DC, and despair. That’s why I carry a little plastic Obama doll in my purse. I pull him out every now and then to remind myself that the United States had a progressive, African-American president until very recently. Some people find this strange, but you have to take comfort where you can find it in Donald Trump’s America."

PDinDetroit

Thank you MM, I had not seen it. I will keep the information.

Predisone is not to be taken long term and it does interrupt the pain cycle, which has repeatedly shown to stop these non-stop migraines for me. While I posted that a migraine was 89 hours long, what I should have posted is that a migraine has been going at 3+ weeks now, it is at 3-4/10 every day, x number of hours at 5-7/10, and the last one was 83 hours long at 8+/10 (ended this am). I can function up to 7, but above that level, I am not able to "segment and ignore" the pain.

It is only by the Grace of God that I make it through such episodes.

Abolishing ICE Looks Likely To Become 2020 Campaign Issue For Democrats

Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon came out for abolishing the agency in January. “ICE operates as an unaccountable deportation force,” Fallon argued. “Dems running in 2020 should campaign on ending the agency in its current form.”

Should ICE exist?” MSNBC host Chris Hayes asked Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris on Thursday. Harris’s answer — “certainly” ICE should exist — sparked a backlash among some liberals.

Liberal writer Jack Mirkinson on Friday slammed Harris for her answer in an article titled, “Not Good Enough, Kamala Harris.”

“Any serious defender of undocumented people in this country would look at ICE and know that it is a cancer that needs to be excised from the U.S. Pretending that the most diseased levers of state power can be molded into something better is a useless fantasy. ICE must be abolished. Anything less is not good enough,” Mirkinson wrote on Splinter, a left-wing website.

“Kamala Harris is very likely running for president in 2020. It should be a political problem for her that she is not willing to take her criticisms of ICE to their logical conclusion and call for its abolition. She should be asked, over and over again, why exactly she is willing to uphold the legitimacy of such a racist, corrupt, and thuggish organization,” Markinson concluded.

“Anyone else who decides to run—Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, Elizabeth Warren, Eric Garcetti, you name it—should be asked the same question.”

Yes, please.

Trump uses page from 'smart policymaking 101' on health care | Boston Heraldhttp://www.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/2018/03/trump_uses_page_from_smart_policymaking_101_on_health_care?amp&__twitter_impression=true

WASHINGTON — A smartphone app that lets Medicare patients access their claims information. Giving consumers a share of drug company rebates for their prescriptions. Wider access to websites that reliably compare cost and quality of medical tests.

The Trump administration is taking a pragmatic new track on health care with officials promising consumer-friendly changes and savings in areas from computerized medical records to prescription drugs. New Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar has been rolling out the agenda, saying it has the full backing of President Donald Trump.

"They are taking a page out of smart policymaking 101 and hitting on themes that everybody cares about," said Kavita Patel, a health policy expert at the Brookings Institution and a veteran of the Obama administration. "But there is not a lot of detail on how they're going to do it."

The first year of the Trump administration was marked by Republicans' unsuccessful struggle to repeal the Affordable Care Act. With Azar installed as Trump's second health secretary, the administration is shifting to issues of broader concern for people with Medicare and employer-provided coverage. Many of the ideas have bipartisan support and can be advanced without legislation from Congress.
