Happy birthday, jimmyk!!

From the last thread...

Republican committees can carp all they like about Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein. The buck stops with the president.

You can infer possible explanations for what is going on both from Trump's actions/words as well as his inactions.

The Boyd letter to Nunes was clearly staffed thru the White House before the DOJ notified Nunes they were not going to comply with his request for info. Trump could have easily ordered Sessions or Rosenstein to fully comply with ALL of Congress' requests to include those from Grassley and Goodlatte. Trump has yet to exercise the full authority he possesses to order the DOJ to comply despite giving warnings on Twitter just this past week that he could.

Why hasn't Trump ordered the DOJ/FBI to fully comply with Congress? Why hasn't Trump fired Rosenstein for "stonewalling" Congress? You would think if Rosenstein was part of the Deep State/Swamp cabal trying to destroy Trump that Trump would be smart enough to realize that and get rid of his ass. Why wasn't Rosenstein fired a long time ago?

--“The result might be to increase the federal prison population without a correlating reduction in crime.”--

Interesting theory. For the last 30 years we did lock up many more criminals and the crime rate declined dramatically.
Correlation does not necessarily imply causation.
But criminals in prison and lower crime rates are one of those correlations rather like a thermometer below 32F and ice that you kind of have to work pretty hard to ignore.
But progs are up to the task.

How wonderful to hear about your nephew's hard work and ultimate success! It takes real dedication work and take classes at the same time, and I can see why you're so proud of him. So often folks who may have trouble with the mundane academic skills most of us are lucky enough to take for granted, have unusual strengths that we can only wish that we possessed. Trump Wants To Know Why Peter Strozk Still Has A Job

Sbwaters

Warren Buffett fails to disaggregate between national, regional, and local newspapers -- or those reporting his remarks fail to do so.

Local news has the greatest reason to survive, because it still has a purpose and people cannot be everywhere they would need to be to learn enough to plan their future better.

Buffett, or the reporters, decline to mention that news before advertising in the 1880s, was primarily paid for by subscriptions, and that that will likely be the case again for local news.

Ted Turner famously said in 1996 to the Newspaper Association of America that newspapers were dead. He also famously retracted the remark ten years later.

Buffett owns the Buffalo News, a newspaper I would never touch with a 10-foot pole for all the identity problems and delivery problems a regional newspaper can face. Their ad dollars tend to get eaten alive by small weeklies on the perimeter that can report local news more economically.

Happy birthday, jimmyk.

Congrats to your nephew, MM.

Boy did I screw the pooch. Last night, I rembered I hadn’t bought Ferry tickets to CT for today. So, I went on line and bought return tickets on the cross sound ferry out of Orient Point.

So, what’s wrong with that you say?

New London to Yale is an hour drive and going into my Travel folder found out I had already purchased return tickets on the Port Jeff - Bridgeport Ferry where the drive is 1/2 hour.

So, I cancelled that in the car since we were already on the South Ferry on our way to Orient Point.

My doctor told me expect some memory lapses from my Statin and it looks like he was right🤡

Sbwaters

Now, having looked at the article, I see that Buffett was refering to the print product.

Well, duh!

We deliver news, not paper. The print daily will continue until too few subscribe to it to make sense. We are, however, picking up weeklies to print and a couple to publish.

And when they are no longer profitable, we will see what other commercial printing is viable. When fewer people own presses, our press becomes more valuable.

From the McCarthy article.

They tell us that their lack of transparency is necessary for the protection of national security, vital intelligence, and investigative operations. But what we find out is that they were concealing their own questionable judgments and conflicting explanations for their actions; their use of foreign-intelligence and criminal-investigative authorities to investigate Michael Flynn, Trump’s top campaign supporter and former national-security adviser; and their explicitly stated belief that Flynn did not lie in the FBI interview for which Special Counsel Robert Mueller has since prosecuted him on false-statements charges.

It is simply not true that the DOJ was concealing their questionable judgments and actions. The fact that the damning information about the DOJ/FBI actions was included in the House report is clear evidence that the DOJ gave the House that information and were not trying to cover up their failures. The reasons for the original redactions (which Rosenstein lifted last Friday) in the House report was because of the criminal investigations in process directly as a result of the actions McCarthy claims the DOJ is trying to conceal. Rosenstein's approval to remove the redactions seems to indicate that the investigations are now complete and it is safe for the public to now know what happened.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Sbwaters,

When I was in high school the Indianapolis Star had a Saturday inset called The Teen Star. Each high school had a reporter (I was the one for our high school) and the stories were things like who got elected homecoming queen and court, academic awards, winners of band contests, kids with unusual hobbies or skills, etc. High school sports was covered on the sports pages. It also wasn't political.

It has since been discontinues, but our local county paper used to feature stuff like that, too.

I always thought the Star made a big mistake ending it, because it was a guaranteed seller of multiple copies due to people wanting clippings to send to relatives and to put in scrapbooks.

The other thing the Star used to have a lot of were want ads for jobs and items for sale. I used to pour over the livestock section when I was a kid to see what horses there were for sale. LOL!

I still think that teen paper is a good idea.

The problem isn't Connecticut. The problem is other states doing this same thing - states that lean red.

If something like that was in effect in MI or PA or WI in 2016, we'd be living under President Hillary right now.

Anything that undermines the electoral college is bad for our side, because it will let the Dems steal red states by running up margins in states like CA and NY using illegal alien votes, deceased votes, and everything else in their bag of tricks, without any recourse since those states are 100% Dem controlled, without even the pretense of a functioning GOP presence to keep them the tiniest bit honest.

I don't know. I agree there's nothing in the Constitution preventing states from allocating their electoral votes however they choose, but I have to think that there would be at least an argument by voters within the state for disenfranchisement under a scheme that allocates the state's EVs based on national results even if that goes against what the state's voters opted for.

"he needs lawyers who have not bought into the Independent DoJ Scam"

Depends if the risk is legal or political.

The Boris Hypothesis:

  • Mueller has dirt but not enough to take Trump out directly. Thus, inject it into the mid-terms successfully to flip the House and/or Senate ... Impeachment!

  • Trump has enough to shut down Mueller but MFM screams Nixonian Saturday Night Massacre. Costing loos of the the House and/or Senate ... Impeachment!

If both sides perceive success as political rather than legal there is no benefit invoking legal technicalities.

Mueller's dirt is actually stronger if he is shut down and shutting him down won't stop any of the dirt he already has.

Trump's best strategery may be to thwart Mueller dirt with anti-dirt and build public support with policies and playing more victim than bully. Anti-dirt only works against dirt. Not much good until there is dirt to use it against.

Shirley you can't be serious, Tom, blacking out citations of articles that formed this snipehunt, leaving out sourcing for the intelligence estimate and the fisa warrant.

The House Intel Committee report included all of the damning information documenting the criminal/unethical actions of the DOJ/FBI. The House report contained that damning information because the DOJ gave it to them. I don't see how this isn't blatantly obvious to everyone. It seems ridiculous to accuse the DOJ of trying to coverup their misdeeds when they were the ones who gave the House the evidence documenting their misdeeds.

What should also be fairly obvious is that while the DOJ provided this evidence to the House, due to the ongoing criminal investigation to hold certain people responsible for their crimes, they did not want the evidence made public yet which is why Rosenstein initially redacted it. Why is that so hard for some of you to accept?
