That is funny TM! Times does do a nice crossword.

Linda Ward

Before he got sick, Dana used to do the crossword puzzle with a black crayon. I mean the crossword puzzle in Boys Life. He once got half way done, but had one of his "episodes" and ripped the magazine into pieces. Of course Mom and Dad gave him his medicine and then he slept for 24 hours straight. That's why he left Rockville. Plus he had a drinking problem.

One of my off the wall questions not posted to offend anyone.

Are you free to be a racist?

I think you can be anything you want. My opinion is being a racist is it's own punishment, because you miss out on so much. Same for a sexist or any of the zillions of "ists" under constant condemnation.

Plus I think it would be interesting to ask a racist a few questions, assuming they would answer them honestly.

Captain Hate

I've never understood the appeal of crossword puzzles. Is there a correlation between liking to do them and enjoying Barney Miller?

“You can get get the NYT crossword puzzle on line.”

For a fee. Plus I don’t like doing them on a device.

I only do the Sunday puzzles. I’ve tried in vain to convince the missus to at least cut our subscription to weekend only. But we get an academic discount, so it’s cheap (about $100) and I console myself by thinking they lose money on me.

Last night, Sam Nunberg reportedly told Ari Melber he thought Roger Stone would be indicted on “broad charges of conspiring against America … backed up by some financial charges.” That has led to some Tweet lawyering suggesting that such ConFraudUS charges would arise naturally from Stone’s known interactions with WikiLeaks and Guccifer 2.0.

do the American people have the stomach to root out the following supports of the Deep State which are designed to overthrow the American form of government--- as seen on TV even!

should the hot civil war emerge, as i think it will, there many of the best among us will ask "how come we didn't see this?"

well, here it is: (adapted from Joe Katzman's "What Then Is To Be Our War?") 454 words from this point on:

(((()))))((((())))

Why this isn’t the “60s” and we’d do well to take stock of that fact:

The “underground” supports for setting off a hot civil war of rebellion against federal election results are numerous, and most had yet to be implemented to even the least significant degree during the most troubling days of the 1960s and early 70s.

Those underground supports provide an “acceptable” basis for the minor and major guerilla actions (mass murder at the FLA gay nightclub, the Scalise shooting, the San Bernardino shooting, the overt attacks at Trump rallies etc)--- the above ground forerunners of a war of rebellion or civil war.

Here are the underground supports in reverse order, the deepest laid first:

1.Dissatisfaction with political, economic, social, administrative and other conditions: national aspirations for independence, or desire for ideological and other changes.

2.Creation of atmosphere of wider discontent through propaganda, political and psychological efforts to discredit government, police, and military authorities.

Accompanied by two major parallels, ongoing and reinforcing each support over time.

The two major parallels are:

a.Preparation of resistance cadres and mobilization of population.

b.Preparation of parallel government hierarchies for taking over government positions.

Back to the underground supports in reverse order, the deepest laid first:

3.AGITATION: creation of favorable public opinion (advocating a cause on a national scale). Creation of distrust of national institutions.

4.Increased national tension, unrest, and disaffection. Infiltration of administration, police, military, national organizations. Boycotts, slowdowns and strikes.

5.Infiltration by foreign organizers and advisors, and foreign propaganda, materiel, money, weapons, and equipment.

6.Recruitment of resistance cadres.

7.Penetration into labor unions, student and national organizations, and all parts of society.

8.Spreading of subversive organizations into all aspects of society.

9.Establishment of national front organizations and liberation movements; international appeal to foreign sympathizers.

10.Expansion of front organizations.

11.Intensification of propaganda; psychological preparation of population for rebellion.

12.Overt and covert pressure against government (riots, strikes, and boycotts).

13.Increased underground activities to demonstrate strength of resistance organization and government weakness.

14.Intense sapping of morale (police, government, administration, and military)

15.Increased political violence and sabotage

This completes the “below the surface” organization for civil war designed to overthrow the federal government.

The trigger points now in play are increasing guerilla attacks--- the above ground demonstration of the “movement” or the deep state.

I don’t see a full out civil war coming.
However, I think the 2020 election will see unprecedented attempts at voter fraud.
Because of the Mueller fiasco, Dems are caught short for the 2018 midterms.
We will retain both the House and the Senate but some House members will have to be brought into the fold to guarantee their support for President Trump’s agenda.
Don’t know what will happen with the immigration kerfuffle.
Recent rulings by the courts seem to illustrate they want to solve this problem even if the Dems don’t.

I have very good news on the Amy front. They called the roofer - who came out and said he could find no damage to the roof. Then he climbed into the attic and said the AC was leaking. So then she called the AC company and they said they would come out monday. Then she called the prior owner and he said he had the AC fixed for $3000 one month ago and he'd call the AC company owner who he knows. The AC owner told his people to get out there today and also get a clean up company out today. The AC owner has already agreed to pay for all the damages.

Well Jane, if I told you that 3% of the American population causes 50% of the violent crime in this country would that make me a racist? No less than Jesse Hi-Jackson said he crosses the street when he sees the so called "Three Percenters."

Not only that, we are told by liberals that people like me who are not of a certain demographic commit just as much crime as the Three Percenters but we just don't get caught.

When you look at crime surveys and cross reference them to arrest records they line up pretty nicely.

Jane...Attic AC units all create a lot more water than people realize. The "primary" drain is almost always via a trap then a 3/4" PVC pipe to the outside or to a drain somewhere. That line can get blocked by "junk" at either end in which the AC unit has a (sink/tub-like equivalent) of an "overflow drain" drain. In the best of installations the "over flow" drain also will exit the house in 3/4" PVC, often where the homeowner can see it dripping and thus he will know the primary drain is clogged. If that line is not visible, then the homeowner won't know until both lines are blocked and that is not good. Now, if you are still reading, all Attic AC units will have a shallow metal pan under the attic unit to catch drips and overflows. Sometimes those pans ALSO have drains, but often they just catch the water. And that works until both drain pipes are clogged then the pan fills to overflowing and then, poof, the ceiling falls in or leaks like crazy.

Since the "pan" is the protection of last resort, and since no water is created when the AC unit is not running, EVERYBODY is smart to have a small device that senses water in the pan and shuts off the AC unit until the source of the water is fixed. $20 item, five minute installation, often required by code but often "forgotten".

And yes, you need not ask, my systems all have all three independent drains plus the electronic shutoff switch. And I have a water sensor installed in each pan connected to my alarm system... (since I am away from one house or the other for almost six months, I just cannot afford an AC leak that might go on for that long...houses can be destroyed by the amount of water than can leak or be filled with mold from it. My neighbor on Nantucket had a $500,000 damage bill from an HVAC system leak.)

And yes, again, my HVAC contractors and Alarm contractors all think I am nuts too.

I think I loved Acadia so much because it reminded me of hikes around Tahoe, where I fell in love with my husband. Love California despite the crazy there. Point Reyes and Inverness are our favorite spots.

I’m of two minds, really, when it comes to a cold civil war. I have a lot of friends who are dead set on only seeing the negative. I don’t think they can be reasoned with now or in the future. I pretty much disregard them
At this point. My nephew’s wife, 27 and very ambitious, was bemoaning the taxes they are paying in NYC. She wants to move. That’s an opening. Time to focus on the young people. Ben Shapiro is an opening. If they’re asking about him, give them better places to go.

I think I have related my NY Times Sunday Xword puzzle story before, but here is the redux:

For years, I was a Sunday NYT Xword puzzle fanatic. Sometimes it would take me 3-4 days to do it. Sometimes, a few hours. One time it was no stop in less than an hour.

When I moved to London from SF, I would get the Sunday Times at the News monger at Glouster Road Station, each monday, and come back to my flat in Kensington after work, sit on the terrace with a glass of wine, and spend hours on it. When I met Mrs. JiB, and began going back in forth to Belgium, I found out the Sunday NYT's Xword puzzle was published on Saturday in the International Herald Tribune.

One time flying back to SF on a Saturday, I did the puzzle on the plane and completed it. Well it was an 9 hour plane ride:). When I got there, I went to my friends place in Pacific Heights, down the street from where I had my place before moving. My friends, and I decided to go to Sacremento for some reason, and in the car, I just in front of them, did the Sunday NYT puzzle in ink and finish it in like 20 minutes.

They were aghast. How can you that? Impossible, etc.

I never told them how I did it:)

Side point about AC water. In commercial leases, the Landlord is almost always responsible if the roof leaks. But the tenants are always responsible for proper maintenance of the HVAC systems and drains. I cannot tell you how many calls I have gotten over the years "Meester OL. My Roof, it is LEAKING. Please make it stop! RIGHT NOW".

At least nine times out of ten the roof is fine but the AC drain had not been cleaned and was leaking over the pan and through the ceiling.

So who did they sleep with to get them, hrumpf.

One thing that Jordan Peterson and others are saying is that the ultimate unit of society is the INDIVIDUAL. We as individuals need to improve ourselves and as we do we will improve society.

Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism. It is the notion of ascribing moral, social or political significance to a man’s genetic lineage—the notion that a man’s intellectual and characterological traits are produced and transmitted by his internal body chemistry. Which means, in practice, that a man is to be judged, not by his own character and actions, but by the characters and actions of a collective of ancestors.

Racism claims that the content of a man’s mind (not his cognitive apparatus, but its content) is inherited; that a man’s convictions, values and character are determined before he is born, by physical factors beyond his control. This is the caveman’s version of the doctrine of innate ideas—or of inherited knowledge—which has been thoroughly refuted by philosophy and science. Racism is a doctrine of, by and for brutes. It is a barnyard or stock-farm version of collectivism, appropriate to a mentality that differentiates between various breeds of animals, but not between animals and men.

Like every form of determinism, racism invalidates the specific attribute which distinguishes man from all other living species: his rational faculty. Racism negates two aspects of man’s life: reason and choice, or mind and morality, replacing them with chemical predestination.

Tell her that that leaves her at a disadvantage when it comes to her making the best decisions for her future.

Tell her that it would be disturbing if her version of reality turned out to be at odds with what actually was.

But tell her, it’s her decision to make, not yours.
