From his speech yesterday to the Republican Governors Association:
The other party's nomination battle is still playing out. The candidates are an interesting group with diverse opinions," Bush said. "They're for tax cuts and against them. They're for NAFTA and against NAFTA. They're for the Patriot Act and against the Patriot Act. They're in favor of liberating Iraq and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts." His audience erupted in laughter and applause.
If this election is decided on the basis of who is quicker with a quip, Kerry is in serious trouble.
This attack theme also seems to address the question of whether the Evil Reps would characterize Kerry as a Massachusettss liberal, or a hopeless waffler. Although I say, why choose?
MORE: Transcript here. Mickey has more on waffling, and on Kerry's ability, given a couple of tries, to nail a soundbite. Bring it on.
GWB is a pretty witty guy who's got a natural way with quick, sharp lines. I think he can cut Kerry to death by a thousand slices, and he'll do it with so much humor that Kerry will look like the pompous sourpuss he is.

Let's not get carried away. Bush wasn't exactly trading spontaneous barbs with Dorothy Parker at the Algonquin here; he was reading a speech that someone wrote for him. It was a prime good hit all the same.
