Well, before you make too much of Bush's reception, recognize that wherever he goes, he is greeted with a well-coached, carefully weeded crowd. In every stump speech he's given to every group from Oregon loggers to Christian clergy, he gets the same thing. It's not a spontaneous expression of the love Americans feel--it's showbiz.
