I saw about ten minutes of the five hour debate in the British Parliament on the Butler report, but the bit I saw is described here, and Blair was brilliant.
And yes, I was jealous - if Blair came over here with that act, he would chase Kerry into the ocean and on to Hawaii. However, Bush can't speak, so here we are.
One line that stayed with me, and I am paraphrasing -
The British people will accept a politician who honestly supports the war, and they will accept a politician who honestly opposes the war. But they will not accept a politician who supports and opposes the war in ths same speech.
More cheerleading from the Scotsman here. One excerpt:
At the weekend, Mr Howard said that in the light of Lord Butler’s revelations about flaws in the pre-war intelligence on Iraqi arms, he now wished he had not voted for the Commons motion that paved the way for war last March.
Yet he still supports the conflict, an apparent contradiction that Mr Blair used mercilessly yesterday, telling Mr Howard: "This type of shoddy opportunism is not the solution to his problem, it is his problem."
And he doesn't poke fat chicks who aren't his wife with cigars either.
What's not to like.
