Barbara Ehrenreich, former Naderite now Cuckoo for Kuchinich and summertime Times columnist, has helpful advice from the Progressive side of the party for John Kerry:
Drink half a quart of Scotch, tie a plastic bag around your head, and try to get some rest...
NO! Her advice is worse:
We're going to need a thorough foreign policy makeover - from Afghanistan to Israel - before we have the credibility to stand up for anyone's human rights. You can't play the gender card with dirty hands.
I would pay extra if the Times would let her expound at length on just what sort of foreign policy makeover she would like to see with respect to Israel (a one-sentence hint is here). Kerry has been trying hard to keep the support of the Jewish community - if he were to embrace Ms. Ehrenreich's notions this afternoon, I would be spared any need to watch his speech tonight.
The petition for a new US foreign policy (that you linked to) is rather notorious for what/who it doesn't address. While it talks about Saddam, Iraq, the Middle East, Israel, Palestinians, Russian counterinsurgency in Chechna, and even Colombian paramilitaries, the kitchen sink, and of course WMDs--it never mentions the nuclear ambitions of Iran, North Korea, or the communist police state of Cuba.
Funny, does it tell you whose side they're on.

All the GOP need do is point to Michael Moore's axis of evil quote: "it's all part of the same ball of wax, right? The oil companies, Israel, Halliburton", then ask him (in Peter Jennings to Wesley Clark) style if he wants to condemn such anti-Israel stances from one of the stars of the current convention.
Moore plus the impending re-election of Cynthia McKinney gives the GOP a slow fastball across the plate.....let's see if they're adept enough to crush it.

Beats me. I'm more one for horseshoes, and you can't play that *without* dirty hands.
