Recently I attended a social event in Manhattan where the subject of politics came up. Amongst the men with whom I was chatting, enthusiasm for Hilary in 2008 was ahh, muted. Having successfully penetrated the Heart of Illumination, I asked one of the locals (who was of course a Dem), who he thought could stop Hillary, and why, if no one in our little group backed her, she was still inevitable.
The chap glanced about conspiratorially and whispered "It's all the women. None of the men can stand the thought of her running".
I have no polling data to confirm that, but Joe Klein and Anna Quindlen provide anecdotal support.
In my experience, though, no man hates Hillary! like a lot of women do. The #1 reason is her incessant efforts to be seen as speaking for and symbolizing all women.
