What's up with the delays? Is that the way it's supposed to be, or is this a temporary glitch?

Jane

I think it means he programmed the threads to post automatically at specific intervals if he didn't stop them. That is pretty cool.

Yes, if I could figure out how to do that I might get some work done during the week. In the meantime, PBS has a new sponsor.

Don't Plame me!

Good article by http://www.observer.com/20060821/20060821_Niall_Stanage_media_wiseguys.asp>Niall Stanage

"The October 2002 N.I.E. expressed “high confidence” that “Iraq is continuing, and in some areas expanding, its chemical, biological, nuclear and missile programs.”

The problem with these leaks, for at least some in the media, seemed to be that the information they revealed favored Mr. Bush.

In an October 2003 column about “Plamegate,” Maureen Dowd made the blanket assertion that “The issue is the administration’s credibility, not Joe Wilson’s.”

But if the subject under debate is the White House’s alleged mendacity, why is the honesty—or otherwise—of its accuser not relevant?"

Yes why isn't it relevant

"""New York Times: Hezbollah Leads Work to Rebuild, Gaining Stature

By JOHN KIFNER""

Funny how the Lamestream media couldn't find a Hezbo anywhere in sight for over a month...now all of the sudden, everywhere they turn, everyone is a Hezbo.

Patton

You notice liberals ONLY OPPOSE torture in theory.

The Pakistans certainly used forceful interogation techniques with Rashid Rauf to uncover the England bomb plot.

I don't see the liberals out marching against this action, nor saying the would prefer that the ten passenger aircraft were destroyed over the Atlantic and thousands of people should die rather then have Pakistan force some information out of Rashid.

I would hope all the liberal bloggers would stand up for all their prior statements and outrage and make sure their readers are aware that they wanted 3,000 innocents dead, rather then a terrorist being forced to talk.

Patton

It is also funny to see the liberals making the claim that because no charges have been brought, then an attack plan couldn't have existed.

This shows one of the biggest reasons why you have to fight this as a war and not just as a crime.

In a war, you don't alwatys have complete evidence before you act. You can't wait until 3,000 people are dead to have all the evidence you need for an indictment.

In many cases, terrorists have committed only minor crimes, if any crimes at all until they actually execute their attack.

The liberals are demanding we have enough information about the planned attack from INSIDE the terror group for an indictment, before we act against them...another ridiculous standard.

Patton

In addition, in many cases the individual terrorists don't even know what the actual plan of attack is. They may have only a piece of the information, they may have been tasked with doing a few small things that can't be seen in the larger puzzleas being threatening.
The muscle guys on Sept 11th had no idea what the actual plan was in case they were picked up ahead of time.

Usually in a criminal conspiracy like a bank robbery, everyone knows the plan, not so with a terror attack.

Patrick R. Sullivan

Moscow News article on Hezbollah tactics in Lebanon

Maybe Israel agreed to a cease fire to regroup and prepare new tactics of their own.

PeterUK

Patton,
Of course the left love violence, they had orgasms over Stalin,Mao and Castro,it simply has to be the right kind of violence,or perhaps that should be the left kind of violence.Torture is so passé compared with genocide and re-education camps, too personal,it lacks the societal aspect of the common good,no social engineering in "getting medaeival on somebodies ass",bombing all the Serbs for the sins of the few,now that really is left violence.

PeterUK

The Kornet missile,by the manufacturer
I see from Patrick's link Hizbollah were fighting the Chechen way,may as well blow my own trumpet, told you so.

Rick Ballard

I'm pretty sure that Israel didn't have any need to prepare new tactics. The sensors being referred to in an oblique manner don't function all that well after an artillery or aerial bombardment. The Israelis do need time, however, to select and elect civilian leadership with the brains to get out of a closet. Fortunately, the Israeli form of government allows for rapid replacement of proven failures.

Does anyone one else think that the Israeli foreign minister might avail herself of a translator rather than giving incomprehensible answers in English? I'm sure that she is an intelligent, if untested, person but one really wouldn't be able to be sure of it based upon her responses to rather simple questions.

PeterUK

Rick,
I think the Israelis need some new equipment, else te Kornet is going to have they same effect in Lebanon as the Stingers did in Afghanistan, blunting the Russian edge of the big Hind helicopter gunships.

Rick Ballard

Peter,

These are just what the doctor ordered. Bint Jbail should have been leveled with thermobarics (air delivery) after initial contact disclosed the depth of the resistance.

Once again, lack of commitment on the part of the civilian leadership cost soldiers lives. They were so damned scared of Green Helmet's pictures that they froze like rabbits under a hawks shadow.

If one is frightened into inaction by the thought of people being killed and maimed perhaps one shouldn't start wars.

cathyf
If one is frightened into inaction by the thought of people being killed and maimed perhaps one shouldn't start wars.
Well, to be fair, the folks who started the war have shown no hesitation at the prospect of people being killed and maimed.

I'd put it a different way -- if one is frightened into inaction by the thought of people being killed and maimed perhaps one shouldn't run for office in a country whose enemies are war criminals.

cathy :-)

Rick Ballard

I suppose that technically it's even worse than that - Lebanon and Israel have been formally at war since '48. I agree with your assessment - it's much better than mine.

boris

if one is frightened into inaction by the thought of people being killed and maimed perhaps one shouldn't run for office

My wouldn't that cull the herd.

Olmert perhaps tried to play it too safe because he was reluctant to engage in a proxy war actually between US and Syria/Iran.

Timid is probably more likely, but I would have preferred to see us at least rattle our swords in a dramatic fashion in the general direction of the real problems.

Bill in AZ

I can't help but wonder if the "white flag" was Bush putting his foot down and saying "enough of the games - this is bigger than Israel kicking Hezbollahs butt" which Israel could do standing on their heads pretty much any day of the week - with a little help.

AhmadDinnerJacket has been prodding, pleading, begging for an attack of some kind, any kind, for months now. He has something up his sleave, and needs a war of some kind, any kind. He finally got it with the Israel/hezbollah nonsense. This, in turn, is making a mess of things in Iraq. The duly elected leaders there, prodded by our complicit media of course, have to take a side in this, and they have no choice but to side with Arabs which fuels those who want to make a mess of things in Iraq, including our complicit media and about half of our citizenship (moonats).

Dunno what Bush sees, but as folks say, he is the consummate poker player and he sees something, probably not good, and the "Israeli war" was not helping. Embarrassing as hell, and I don't see harldy any conservative pundits or bloggers who agree with how this came down, but I suspect there is something much bigger at play here.

More fallout over licking Mrs. and Mr. Plames' boots, aks. press screws themselves...

http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110008805

The prosecution of government "leaks" that began with the Valerie Plame case has already sent one reporter to jail and limited the ability of all journalists to protect their sources. But now things are getting worse, as the Justice Department is prosecuting a pair of lobbyists for doing what journalists do every day....

...The current prosecution has its own suspicious political beginnings, with some of the early leaks to the media suggesting that Mr. Franklin deserved his fate because he was one of those "neocons" who got us into Iraq. Some of the more breathless media reports seemed to cheer the FBI and Justice on, again for partisan reasons, and again ignoring the dangers to the press itself. This is the same mistake that liberal newspapers made as they campaigned for a special counsel in the Plame probe because the journalist in the dock was merely conservative columnist Robert Novak.

Well, I say the NYT's has no one to thank but dumbass Joe Wilson for their current woes. You lie down with dogs, you get fleas and all that...

The Unbeliever

Anyone else notice something mildly amusing at the bottom of the Lieberman-Lamont story Bob posted? There's a list of related articles linked to the story which shows an interesting trend...

Under News Stories:
"Kerry backing anti-war candidates", AP via Yahoo! News

Under Feature Articles:
"Lieberman's 'mainstream' isn't Democratic at all", at USATODAY.com

Under Opinion and Editorials:
"Lieberman the Enabler" at CounterPunch
"Democrats don't need a new plan or more big ideas", at Christian Science Monitor

That last one is my favorite. After three articles displaying the Dems' anti-war credentials, we're told that there is nothing wrong with the Dems in the first place--they just need to match Republican "party discipline". As if repeatedly displaying weakness on national security isn't a liability at all. The article is here, go read it for a stellar example of a party in deep denial.

I think I'm going to enjoy this November's elections, even though the GOP will lose a couple of seats, and I'm especially looking forward to 2008.

Does this implicate Soros in the Jefferson scandal?

From: William Jefferson: Tollbooth Operator on the Road to Africa Posted on Wednesday, June 7, 2006. By Ken Silverstein.

"Jefferson also has interesting ties to São Tomé and to some Americans doing business there, specifically people linked to ERHC. That's the small Texas-based firm that had zero revenue, one full-time employee, and a controversial Nigerian owner (whom I'll discuss below), but which obtained lucrative oil rights in tiny São Tomé. On May 22, I reported that investigators recently hit ERHC with a search warrant for “documents related to correspondence with foreign governmental officials or entities in São Tomé and Nigeria.” According to my source and to the report in African Energy Intelligence, the warrant is linked at least in part to the Jefferson investigation."

From the blog ERHC On The Move

"It is a large and complex story, but essentially, ExxonMobil in particular and Anadarko Petroleum wanted a block of the Sao Tome-Nigeria Joint Development Zone - Block 4. In adjoing Block 1m Chevron and Exxon have already struck a huge reservoir - at least according to Chip Cummings of the WSJ in early May, who said they discovered a billion barrels and that ERHC had been served with a search warrant because of links to Nigerian and Sao Tome officials "uncovered" by a report funded by George Soros, then a major stockholder in Pioneer, ERHC's partner in Blocks 2 and 3 of the JDZ. Chevron's May 31 press release said they discovered "at least 100 million barrels."

The Real Victory to be realized over time?

Maybe and hopefully so.

Syria's now considering stirring up a civil war by creating its own Hezbollah-like group to gain Golan Heights from Israel. Right.

If this real victory is realized over time, Syria's plans may backfire.

AJStrata is of this "real victory and democracy" opinion as Captain's Quarters.

Soros, as Clarice discovered, funded CREW that's now defending the Wilsons. CREW really went after Tom DeLay; yet, CREW hasn't been successful in proving ethical issues with DeLay.

DeLay is trying to get his name off the ballot. I wish he wouldn't. But after reading about CREW yesterday, I wonder if Tom knows that if he gets re-elected, then the attacks against him will continue leading to more lawsuits and indictments in the future. Perhaps he did not want that kind of risk?

Bob

Just spoke to a dear friend... he's even a lawyer, and he voted for Ned. However he expressed "buyers remorse" and will most likely vote for Lieberman. His reasoning was simply that he wanted to shake Joe up. But he didn't think Ned would win... now he's sorry!

Add that to the Republicans like myself who are holding their noses and voting for Joe, and you have one "DEAD NED" in November!

hmm...let's try that again. Place the opening and closing tags directly before and after the word or phrase you want to bold, italacise or indent. (no spaces)

(i'm going to use spaces inside the less than and greater than symbols but you shouldn't, it's the only way i can show you without my example showing up as it did above)

< b >word or phrase you want to bold< /b >
< i >word or phrase you want to italicise< /i >

< blockquote >to indent a paragraph< /blockquote >

again, place the tags directly before and after the words you want to affect, no spaces. But inside the tags, (less than and greater than symbols) don't use spaces.

<i>I want to italicize this text</i>
then you need to type in this:
&lt;i&gt;I want to italicize this text&lt;/i&gt;
In other words, in order to get a less-than sign, you type in:

while for a greater-than sign, you type in:

More on Soros, a major stockholder in Pioneer and a partner to ERHC. A long read but a good history of Soa Tome and Principe.

During May 2004, UNDP granted the National Assembly $100,000 as part of the programme to strengthen local capacities in oil related issues. The Assembly’s secretary-general announced that the funds would be used for the project concerning the oil revenue management law. At the same time, the parliamentary commission entrusted during October 2003 with designing the oil revenue management law submitted the Bill to the National Assembly. The law was largely based on the drafts of two expert US teams, one headed by former Alaska governor Steve Cowper and paid for by the World Bank and the oil advisory team of the Earth Institute of Columbia University in New York that worked on a pro-bono basis for STP, having been partly supported by George Soros's Open Society Institute.
Later that month, a US delegation headed by General Charles Wald, Deputy Commander of EUCOM, and Chuck Hagel, a Republican Senator from Nebraska and member of the Senate’s foreign affairs and intelligence committees visited STP. The visitors stressed the strategic importance of STP for US interests in Africa. In addition to STP, Wald and Hagel visited Angola, Gabon, Cameroon and Nigeria, where they urged these oil producing countries to improve shipping security and protect vulnerable infrastructure such as pipelines and offshore rigs from possible terrorists attacks.
On 24 June the Houston-based Environmental Remediation Holding Corporation(ERHC), which under a controversial treaty with STP holds pre-emptive rights in six blocks of the JDZ, announced that Pioneer Natural Resources (a Dallas-based independent oil company) had entered into a participation agreement for Block 2 of the JDZ, where ERHC has pre-emptive rights of 30%. It was speculated that together the two companies might increase the percentage to above 50% to achieve an operating stake.

Was Soros protecting his investment with the help of Hagel and the US military (EUCOM), or were they looking out for the people of STP?

One more thing, Marathon is a Rockefeller oil company.

#8 at the bottom sums it up I think

8 The payment by the Nigerian oil company Chrome Oil Services owned by Sir Emeka Offor had become known after the dismissal of Gabriel Costa in October 2002. Notwithstanding current declarations, during her two years in office, Maria das Neves never expressed concerns about the issue. One should recall that, during April 2003, a group of citizens had publicly asked President Menezes to clarify this question. At the time, Menezes publicly acknowledged having received the amount of $100,000 as a campaign donation for the two parties PCD and MDFM for the legislative elections of March 2002. Responding to accusations of having violated the country’s legislation that prohibits party financing by foreign entities, Menezes declared that all local parties had received foreign funds in the past. While Menezes was probably right, he was the first high ranking officer who acknowledged having received campaign funds from a foreign company – in this case, one which signed a highly controversial oil agreement with STP. Following DasNeves’s accusations, the Public Prosecutor announced the investigation of the payment made in February 2002.

ERHC Company History

2004-2005 – Management/Name Changes

Effective December 31, 2004, ERHC Energy terminated its management services agreement with Chrome Oil Services. On January 1, 2005, ERHC Energy assumed direct responsibility for costs and expenses of its officers and staff and the lease obligation of its office space.

In February 2005, Environmental Remediation Holding Corporation (ERHC) changed its name to ERHC Energy Inc., by decision of its shareholders.

Did that 100,000 dollars come from ERHC?

"Criminologists will tell you that the reason street crime is down in the U.S. is because of proactive policing methods such as were instituted in New York by Rudy Giuliani and William Bratton. A reactive police force by definition lets crime happen and investigates afterward. Our bitter, give-no-quarter politics is going to leave us with a reactive, uncertain national security apparatus."

Ahmadinejad refers to the return of the 12th Imam, also known as the Mahdi, in almost all his major speeches since he took office in August.

Perhaps Ahmadainejihad is setting himself up to be the 12 Imam.
