Other Tom

Good God, it appears that the poor fool is reporting for duty again.

hit and run

He called it a botched joke?

There was definitely a joke involved here. The proper pronuoun should be "himself" and not "it"

hit and run

"Reporting for duty"

Or just "spewing doodie"

Sue

Whadda ya' wanna bet he apologizes by the end of the day? ::grin:: Democratic operatives are converging on him even as we make fun of him. Whether they are carrying a big stick or a big gun, that is the $64K question.

JM Hanes

If you think of Kerry as the Democratic party mascot, it makes it even easier to sit back and enjoy the show. The only downside is that he can't actually help Republicans much if nobody takes him seriously any more. It's sort of amusing that there are still folks saying that we'd be better off today if Gore had been our Prez. The idea that we'd be better off with Kerry just seemed to run flat out of steam.

I've always found Kerry's drone as difficult to listen to as the BDS crowd finds Bush's twang. In Kerry's case, though, it's mostly because it takes him sooooo loooong to say nothing (perfect for the academic crowd!). I'll take the quick gaffe every time. Gives detractors less to work with, and makes shorter work of the backing up to boot. I'll be interested to know if Kerry manages that successfully this time around, given that he's apparently decided to handle the backtracking personally -- which, of course, requires opening his mouth again. The guy needs his own color coded self-awareness alert system.

owl

Considering the air time the MSM will give Kerry to campaign, with nary a hard question, it will be like BergerPants.

They should give EQUAL time to one of the Swifties to speak for the other side.

Hey FOX.....you played this tripe. You owe a rebuttal made by a real fighter for EQUAL time.

Jane

I'll bet he won't apologize.

maryrose

If this doesn't get the conservative republicans to the polls I don't know what will. Remember Cardinal Rule numbers 3 and 4.
for dems:
3. Blame others.
4. Try to spin your answer as a joke or say you are misinterpreted.. Of course we all know what numbers one and two are:
1. Lie about others and what you said.
2. Go to the courts for a reversal judgment.

Jane

Hey John,

Why the long face?

Sue

The guy needs his own color coded self-awareness alert system.

I don't know who is scoring the best comments today, but I want your's moved to the top of the list. ::grin::

Squiggler

I'm doing a link roundup of reactions HERE

Diane Irey's statement included.

Bottom line -- Kerry is pathetic.

Bob

I think now would be a good time to ask him to sign that 180 form... ya know just to show what a joker he really is!

anon

AM

the nightmare brought to this nation by Bush/Rove.

I have to ask. What nightmare? Everywhere I look I see fat and happy people. Where do you live that you see a "nightmare"?

clarice

God loves George Bush.

mark c.

ahh, there's nothing as soothing as the vocal stylings of the baritone buffoon of beantown. where's my ipod?

maryrose

It's Howdy Doody time-on John Kerry's dime. I haven't had so much fun on a blog in ages.
Remember he wouldn't apologize to the Secret Service agent he accused of causing his fall on the ski slopes either. He's a too proud Boston Brahmin to apologize for an obvious revelation of his disdain for the troops. This will come back to haunt him-no pun intended on Halloween.

SaveFarris

I have no doubt that come November 8th, Kerry (or Dean or Pelosi or Clinton...) is going to hold a Denny Green press conference. ("The Republicans are who we THOUGHT they were!")

Gary Maxwell

John Kerry just peed in the Democrat Party punch bowl on the election eve. The round of comments I have seen at everywhere except at the lefty most sites is stinging in rebuke if not utter revulsion. And Mr. Tinear instead of a quick apology goes on off on a tear about it was misunderstood and he meant Bush etc etc.

Book it, moonbat trolls. You can thank your winter soldier for the inability to take either House next week. The undecided just got up and punched the Republican lever again.

Ha Ha Ha as Captain Kirk once said " I am laughing at your superior intellect."

maryrose

Kerry on Fox News blog states:
I will not apologize. Stuck on Stupid is too kind of a summation for this type of clueless behavior. I cringe when I think that but for Ohio and our votes against him this maroon would be commander of everything.

arrowhead

The Kerrys can cross the White House off their list of potential futre residences. Time for Teresa to dust off that pre-nup.

Sue

ABC News radio is playing up the 'botched joke'.

JM Hanes

Squig:

May your roundup be Instalanched! (I wrote to the great BlogFather to suggest it, although I'm afraid I've only got slush pile status).

maryrose

arrowhead:
So true! Even Al Gore never screwed up this bad. It will be the lead story on Fox but I bet MSNBC doesn't even carry it. I'll wait and see if Jon Stewart or Keith Oehlberman have any comments on it but I won't hold my breath.

Gary Maxwell

Hey John! When everyone including your friends are telling you "you are drunk, sit down and shut up.", its usually a good advice to listen.

Major John

I'd swat him with my rolled up J.D., MA and BA if he was close enough...

hit and run

Major John:
I'd swat him with my rolled up J.D., MA and BA if he was close enough...

I bet you dollars to (miserable) doughnuts that he'd try and get a purple heart out of it.

Sue

I bet you dollars to (miserable) doughnuts that he'd try and get a purple heart out of it.

LOL. The hits just keep coming. I doubt laughing at him was what John F'n Kerry was after.

clarice

He's very thin-skinned. When he shot himself in the ass with a rice grain he considered himself badly wounded.
Wonder how long it'll take him from recuperating from today's self-inflicted wound?

Bob

I hope this doesn't ruin his chances at a run for 2008... It was so much fun in 2004, that it'll be a pity to only have Hillary to mess with!

I want to send the SB Vets some more cash!

hit and run

clarice:
He's very thin-skinned. When he shot himself in the ass with a rice grain he considered himself badly wounded.

I can't say I blame him for taking that wound very seriously. Think how close it came to inflicting brain damage.

Sue

This would have gone away in about 5 minutes had Kerry said I'm sorry. The republicans would have looked petty had they continued to pile on after that. As it is, Kerry is fair game...hehehehe...

Sue

Think how close it came to inflicting brain damage.

You are going to have to stop it...my sides are hurting.

kaz

This guy would have had a tremendous career if vaudville were still alive.

He comes out looking like five miles of bad road. [I have relatives in West Virginia; I KNOW what five miles of bad road looks like.] Then he takes careful aim and blows off part of his foot.

The next day, instead of cauterizing the wound, he stuffs the stump in his mouth and mumbles that it's somehow Bush's fault.

Dark and mysterious are the ways of Lord Rove. I wonder how much he would charge to sit at a conveniently close desk the next time I have a salary review?

SunnyDay

Ooh y'all are so funny!!

So, I take a nap, wake up and here are all these really funny posts. I'm reading along, and I see everyone addressing "John," so I scrolled back to look for John's post. I couldn't find it anywhere.

Finally, it dawned on me.... Doh.

clarice

Everyone's a comedian today, but then when Kerry's involved, the stuff just writes itself.

SunnyDay

I agree, God loves George Bush.

lonetown

Of course it was a joke at Bush's expense, but he blew the line.

Freudian?

Hmmmm.

Squiggler

H&R -- I had to highlight your comment:

He's very thin-skinned. When he shot himself in the ass with a rice grain he considered himself badly wounded.

I can't say I blame him for taking that wound very seriously. Think how close it came to inflicting brain damage.

Posted by: hit and run | October 31, 2006 at 01:01 PM

as the best one so far today on any blog I've linked to.

Gary Maxwell

Maybe John can put on a tank helmet and drive around in the tank and stop for photos to make amends with the troops?

clarice

H & R's gets my vote, too.

Sue

I just listened to Kerry's statement. The one line that made me laugh out loud...

...won't take responsibility for their own mistakes.

Isn't he claiming what he said was a botched joke? I'd call that a mistake, and he certainly isn't willing to take responsibility for not being able to tell his own joke.

Gary Maxwell

Not a troll in sight. A coincidence? I think not.

Squiggler

Someone threw a drink at Barbara Streisand last night when she started bashing Bush during a concert in Florida.

Squiggler

I don't get this democrats. They know that an overwhelming majority of military, both active and retired, are Republican. Why rile up this huge base of voters just days before a mid-term. If anything illustrates how they don't have a clue, this is it.

Squiggler

:: this democrats :: should be "these democrats"

kaz

This isn't the only place that's gotten a little lighthearted over Lurch's case of hoof n' mouth. Ace of Spades has some gems in his comments today as well. Two that almost led to unscheduled monitor cleaning:

I'm willing to bet that Rove had to be hospitalized this afternoon for an erection that lasted more than four hours.

Terrye

What a freakin idiot. It is all Bush's fault. Bush is Satan. I am God. Remember Katrina. Bring back Saddam. blah blah blah.

Democrats think the rules do not apply to them. They can say whatever they want, blame Republicans for their screw ups and move on.

But this was just tacky.

sbw

All this noise! All I really wanted to hear from Democratic candidates were constructive suggestions as to how Democrats proposed to deal with the country's problems. Does this mean I'm not going to get answers before the election?

Sue

Check http://www.drudgereport.com/>Drudge.

::grin::

Paul

When the Democrats fail to take the House or Senate, will they lay all the blame on Kerry?

Sue

ABC News radio...

Republicans are ignoring Kerry's explanation.

::grin::

Elroy Jetson

KERRY CLAIMS HE IS BEING "SWIFT-BOATED"

Prediction: This will be the headline by Thursday.

Hope he goes out and really kicks some ass, eh Tom?

Pop the popcorn, this is going to be great!

Jane

Drudge is great, this gets better and better, Bush is about to address the comments, and I have trick-or-treaters at the door.

Patrick R. Sullivan

Okay;, let's accept JFK II's new explanation: He wasn't insulting the troops, he was insulting himself for not 'studying' up on Iraq and voting for going in.

Sue

Hurry, Senator...

pagar

"""If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes """""
Anyone who would say these words would criticize any American veteran:
"""They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war,"""
Then we have Jack Murtha, ""and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood."
Then we have the party who promotes these
statements.

Does anybody believe the Dumbocrat incredibly lame response on this? And if John McCain, Tall John's big buddy is calling for an apology and he wont give one, then he gets what he deserves. Take a bunch of Democrats down with the leaking ship you are riding John.

Lets see who generally is thought to vote for McCain. Moderates and independents right. Who needs those stinkin votes anyway! Damn the torpedos and full speed ahead, you frakking idiot.

Sue

From NRO...Kerry refuses to be swiftboated, so he swiftboats himself.

As Clarice said, everyone is a comedian today because Kerry makes it so easy.

Gary Maxwell

Glenn Reynolds calls Kerry's response a "meltdown". Let see how does Glenn describe himself and who are among his biggest supporters? Moderates and libertarians. While you are throwing away the Moderates and the independents why not the libertarians too. The man has hit the jackpot. And the inability to apologize seems awfully like what I remember Dems saying about Bush, he cant admit a mistake.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning! Tall John is something burning?

Seixon

Ever Shorter Kerry: Iraq is for Dummies.

Gary Maxwell

Glenn Reynolds is tapping dancing on Kerry. Why didnt Kerry just apologize? "Some questions just answer themselves."

clarice

Bush says Senator Kerry's comments on the military are "shameless and insulting"
Says Kerry owns them an apology (Lucianne.com)

Jane

And the inability to apologize seems awfully like what I remember Dems saying about Bush, he cant admit a mistake.

Actually IIRC that was Kerry's very own song and dance.

clarice

I take it he was playing Hamlet about how to respond to this--even showing up a half hour late to his own presser--and then, as usual makes the worst possible choice about his course of action.

owl

Yeah but I wanted the Official Dem stance so I hopped over to Hardball. I got it.

Evidently they have had some Dem AP write an article to explain it.....so Matthews says that everyone just saw a little part of the speech. After all....AP says that earlier Kerry was talking about Bush....skip a few lines and he REALLY MEANT BUSH!

Unbelievable. Of course he finishes by saying that he believes Kerry. LOL

After all Kerry is saying it's crazy to trash 140,000 troops.........duh.......how about all those you trashed in Nam?

clarice

He trashed these troops, too, before--remember how he claimed they were terrorizing women and children in their homes?

TexasIsHeaven

You all must forgive my earlier rant on Katrina as it was off topic - but when I saw the words "Katrina foreign policy" I went crazy - temporally.

God loves George Bush.

John Kerry is an ass - we can only hope he keeps giving speeches for the next week.

MayBee

Kos thinks Kerry handled it perfectly, which is a sure sign Kerry's statement is not going to resonate well with average Americans.

MayBee

Major John-
I thought of you right away when I read what Kerry said. Major, Kerry isn't fit to pour your cognac.

lurker

Been working too damn hard of late but just learned what Kerry said. Boy, he is a fuckin' idiot to make such a statement like this. I have never served in the military but, no matter, he should apologize to everyone but his apology will ring hollow in our ears.

So glad he lost in 04. Amazing how he got re-elected one too many times. He should never have been elected the first time.

Jane

You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard
and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well.
If you don't, you get stuck in the Senate.

maryrose

Seixon:
You are killing me today. "Iraq is for Dummies" I need a new keyboard. It just flows;the jokes. the wisecracks. - it"s effortless really...

maryrose

Jane: LOL. Kerry and Kennedy did get stuck in the Senate and they now regard it as their 7th circle of hell because they are in the minority.
owl:
Yes Chris Matthews was especially pouty reading and re-reading the dem talking points which sounded false and weak and utterly unbelievable. Carville on the Situation Room proposed the meme that it was a joke that fell flat as did Steve McMahon on Hardball. They sound like they did when defending Jefferson{Cold Cash} after they found the90,000 in his freezer.
A definite Kerry -Crash and Burn.

Syl

A Democratic congressman told ABC News Tuesday, "I guess Kerry wasn't content blowing 2004, now he wants to blow 2006, too."

LOL

(linked from Drudge)

Squiggler

My son just called while on a break at work. He was in his car listening to callers to Michael Savage. Apparently some who were thinking about voting dem. have changed their minds. Savage said, Kerry needs to join A.A., or Appeasers Anonymous.

I'm not a Savage fan, but apparently, according to the report I just had, he is hot and so are his callers.

I imagine it is about the same on Rush.

DwightKSchrute

Let's hop in the way back machine and go to 2004:

Bush when asked by Matt Lauer about the war on terror - "I don’t think you can win it."

Tom McGuire: "Hmm. First, I sure wish it was Kerry that had said this, since he would be torn apart. However, Bush has trained the press, and the rest of us, to understand that the words coming out of his mouth need to be interpreted very broadly"

Is that what you mean by "nuance" Sue?

Anyone who thinks the quote by Kerry was aimed at the troops and not at the President you are intellectually lazy, intentionally malicious, or really daft.

Squiggler

Yeah, that's us. Loyal patriotic veterans are just dummies. Oh, that we could have all been "D" students at Yale. Want to compare transcripts? Let's start with Bush vs. Kerry. Uh oh, Kerry is the dummy.

Squiggler

Let's see, Kerry thinks the troops are baby killers, he things they break into homes in the dead of night and defile women and children. Yep! He supports the troops. And let's not forget the FACT that the education level of the troops is higher than the general American population.

Sue

Anyone who thinks the quote by Kerry was aimed at the troops and not at the President you are intellectually lazy, intentionally malicious, or really daft.

LOL. Another case of who are you going to believe, Dwight or Kerry's own words? All he had to do was apologize for not being a comedian. Tear Bush apart for saying that. It won't change what Kerry said. ::grin::

Gary Maxwell

Bet mehow moderates, libertarians and independents read mr arrogant's comments DK Schrute. I would like to make some easy money from a sucker so come on down sports fan.

Squiggler

Official Debunks Myths About Military Recruits

Sue

I believe we are being told that anything that a democrat says should be interpreted very broadly. Or maybe we are just being told that Kerry is indeed a moron and this is the best argument they can come up with to defend his stupidity. Either one is correct.

TexasToast

Bet me how moderates, libertarians and independents read mr arrogant's comments DK Schrute. I would like to make some easy money from a sucker so come on down sports fan.

Gary

I'll bet you they didn't even hear them - after hearing the Michael J.Fox - Rush Limbaugh "Thrilla in Missoura"

Gary Maxwell

Best line of the day? Maybe Bill Frist is a contender. Whadda ya think?

"Perhaps he was against his comments before he actually made them."

Sue

TT,

And Kerry tied this controversy right into it. I bet they heard it. If for no other reason than to hear Kerry call Limbaugh a dough boy taking timeout from mocking Michael J. Fox. See? Kerry is really the idiot we thought he was.

Gary Maxwell

TT

You still mad cuz Chris Bell is still not ahead of Undecided?

Please explain to me how Karl Rove gets all this Dumbocrats to do his work for him? the guy is a genius, an evil genius I am sure but a genius nevertheless.

Jane

Anyone who thinks the quote by Kerry was aimed at the troops and not at the President you are intellectually lazy, intentionally malicious, or really daft.

Anyone who thinks it wasn't knows nothing about John Kerry.

Sue

Jane,

They can explain one faux pas, but how to explain all those other ones? Nuance, baby, nuance. ::grin::

doug

Hey kids get used to it. There is going to be a whole lot more of in your face--mangled English and all.

clarice

If it was a misreading of his notes and inadvertent , he should have said so immediately instead of publishing that ridiculous press release.

And he should have apologized for any slur on the troops no matter how inadvertently made by him.

Has he established well enough to one and all that (a) he's a jerk;(b) he's so indecisive and incoherent he cannot even get himself out of a hole of his own making choosing instead to made the worst of it?

Squiggler

Frist's comment is a contender, but H&R's is still #1. MacRanger's is very close:

"First Kerry calls troops stupid. Then Kerry calls everyone else stupid for calling him out on calling troops stupid."

Squiggler

19 House Members call for Kerry apology. AMVETS and American Legion demand apology. McCain demands apology. Bush demands apology. Boehmer as Majority Leader demands apology. Frist demands apology. Limbaugh demands apology. Tony Snow demands apology. Michael Savage demands apology. Haven't heard Levine yet, but you can bet he'll be classic.

clarice

And on the very day that N Korea caves and agrees to return to the 6 party bargainng table Hillary! calls for a more "internationalist" foregin policy.

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/10/31/061101000930.r1cha3r4.html

God's love for Bush made manifest once again.

Squiggler

Who's in the military?

Michael Barone tells it like it is.

Gary Maxwell

the telling part of this all is KOS, he was trying to maintain radio silence but that was just killing him. So he has posted the moonbat rallying cry. "Fight or get out of the kitchen ( no I am not kidding and dont ask me what the hell that means. Its just so funny that he thinks Kerry's fighting response is exactly the right note. That means of course that as I think Maybee already concluded, middle America will never agree.

Squiggler

The Southwest, as in So. California south of Hollywood, also will never agree. The place old war VETS retire.

Sue

From my perusal of military blogs, the military isn't buying Kerry's assertion that if anyone owes the troops an apology it is Bush and Rumsfeld. The emails from active troops are actually quite humorous, but to the point. Screw Kerry, basically.

clarice

Someone said he just shot himself in the foot and put in for another purple heart..

Gary Maxwell

How many people actually have to spend time picking scrapnel out their behind twice in a lifetime, both from self inflicted wounds? The man is a walking miracle.

Crew v1.0

John Kerry, why are you swift-boating your first pick (before John Edwards) for Vice President, Senator John McCain? Stop, please.
