I dunno guys . . . this could backfire on the NYT. It casts doubt on the claims that Sadam's WMD programs and capabilities had all been rendered impotent by the UN inspections, sanctions, etc.

Besides, I think the NYT's ability to influence the American public has pretty much been in a freefall for quite some time. Only the MSM and beltway liberals hold them in much esteem.

Clarice...

I copied a comment left at Ace.

If you are talking about ACE post...

I think Ace snap post containing natural NYT's pessimism. Ultimately this story is BAD for the left...

Ace commenter Winston points to this...TKS - Jim Geraghty

...The New York Times just tore the heart out of the antiwar argument, and they are apparently completely oblivous to it.

The antiwar crowd is going to have to argue that the information somehow wasn't dangerous in the hands of Saddam Hussein, but was dangerous posted on the Internet. It doesn't work. It can't be both no threat to America and yet also somehow a threat to America once it's in the hands of Iran. Game, set, and match.

read the whole thing.

Sara (Squiggler)

The last document I saw was the one indicating Saddam made a deal with Syria to provide him with 500 terrorists to help fight against the Americans.

Yes, but this is the same thing they did in 2004. The dual use equipment wasn't dangerous in Saddam's hands (it did, after all, have strings and a little locked seal on the door to the bunker!).

They want to have their cake and eat it too, AND have more cake left over than they started with.
Remember, the NYTs wants us to believe that we shouldn't be all that scared of Iran either.

--I dunno guys . . . this could backfire on the NYT.--

Well, since the NYT's has made it there life's work to publish sensitive classified information...in addition to pooh poohing any value to these DOCs...and these docs had to muscled out of the Admin....it's pretty hard for them to suddenly get the vapors over their being out there and then to suggest they are so sensitive and they contained Iraq blueprint on building a nuke?

NYT's learns intimately the meaning of quagmire!

Yeah, and I want Democrats to take threats seriously.

Sue

Who was I posting with the other night that challenged my assertion that the NYTs would drop a surprise on us just before the election as they did in 04? Sheesh.

Sue

As to the DOJ monitoring the site, they have been doing it for at least the last week. Before that, I don't know. And who at the DOJ I don't know. They are definitely watching the Libby site though.

Sara (Squiggler)

They're probably trying to get a heads up on what the potential arguments are against them and what is working that they are doing. The discussions going on here are pretty in depth and could be considered a cyber jury.

Sue

I just figured it was someone bored at work. There are lots of government employees from various agencies reading (and posting). Makes you wonder why they are still on the payroll. Obviously they are either not doing their job or they don't have enough to keep them busy for 8 hours a day. ::grin::

Syl

If the MAF announcement is related to the Slimes story in any way, perhaps it is based on classified info that they won't divulge until the Slimes divulge it first.

But it's probably more likely there's no connection.

What I'd love to see on Monday is Sulzie and Keller frog marched out of the building. It's like they have a death wish anyway and are hoping they can hang out just a little longer--like through the 2008 election--I want to put a crimp in their plans.

They've gotten away with enough already.

Syl

I've read the Slimes piece.

They're making it look like the Republicans were so incompetent they posted this stuff at the site.

The intelligence services VETTED THE STUFF, not the Republicans in Congress.

The Slimes are saying that Saddam had nothing for us to worry about therefore what was the point of releasing any documents at all! Some of this stuff could be sensitive!!

What a bunch of friggin' hypocrites!

Via Stop the ACLU:

Captain Ed has much more with an awesome post: Here is just a bit.

This is apparently the Times’ November surprise, but it’s a surprising one indeed. The Times has just authenticated the entire collection of memos, some of which give very detailed accounts of Iraqi ties to terrorist organizations. Just this past Monday, I posted a memo which showed that the Saddam regime actively coordinated with Palestinian terrorists in the PFLP as well as Hamas and Islamic Jihad. On September 20th, I reposted a translation of an IIS memo written four days after 9/11 that worried the US would discover Iraq’s ties to Osama bin Laden.

It doesn’t end there with the Times, either. In a revelation buried far beneath the jump, the Times acknowledges that the UN also believed Saddam to be nearing development of nuclear weapons:

Guess we can sound the all clear and stow those gas masks for another news cycle.

Enlightened

Jeez you guys are just phenomenal. I leave work, shop a bit, come home, have a little dinner, watch a little TV, check in for a sec, and the whole November Surprise is going to sink the Dems faster than Jon Carry.

Really, are the nutballs at the NYT this stupid? They are trying to pass off this huge internet "blunder" that in fact validates what they have been denying for years?

I need to go to bed. I would rather lurk and let the genius's here do all the work, and just come back tomorrow and enjoy the show.

I guess my nitrous oxide gas mask was adjusted a little - high.

PeterUK

The throne room of Saddam Hussein a man obviously totally uninterested in WMD,the missiles were simply to get his kite higher than anyone else.Talk about obsession!

Extraneus

Yeah, Peter. Nice pic. Did you get this from the NYT website? I haven't seen the paper yet, but I would assume they're using this pic on their front-page to accompany the article on the docs.

Lyn

...because the full transcript of what he was SUPPOSED TO SAY have been released...

We're told to give Osama John Kerry a free pass because he said what he meant instead of what he was SUPPOSED TO SAY?

Hide, Nancy! There's no way to cover Kerry's ass and his sh*t hit the fan.

Now that's a funny punchline. Ha-ha, I get the "joke" -- self-deprication a la Osama John Kerry. LOSER!

Osama

Infidel, how dare you take my name in vain,John Kerry is a tall thin, scrawny fool ,born to privilege, living on the money earned by others, whereas I......

clarice

With his taste for understated elegance, I'm surprised that Architectural Digest didn't feature his palaces.

That throne room just screams "Containment was working!"
