New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is picking up his hat and preparing to toss it into the 2008 Presidential ring.
Two years ago I was assured, by a Dem fundraiser who seemed quite certain, that Richardson could never run, due to a private life that, in his phrase, made Bernie Kerik look like a choir boy. (If you have forgotten Bernie Kerik's failed bid to head up Homeland Security, well, he would have done a heck of a job.)
zhe s[[srently denied the report tonight. (I heard the same rumors about his life, and if we both did, probably half the country did.)

**(Sorry) He Apparently denied the report tonight..***

Hey, I didn't hear the rumors, but I'm part of the other half of the country that lives in the sticks. Clarice, have you been holding out on the really dishy gossip? Do tell!
Posted by: mariposa | December 07, 2006 at 11:55 PM
I hardly ever hear anything dishy. If I do, I'm so old I can't remember it long or mix it up so I don't repeat it for fear I have the names wrong. But this rumor is widespread .

Ah, good dodge! :-P
Posted by: mariposa | December 08, 2006 at 12:03 AM
Haha, then why does he say he's running, in the FNC video? Maybe he didn't mean to announce yet, and slipped up?
Posted by: SunnyDay | December 08, 2006 at 12:14 AM
Don't know--but here's the denial.

Yeah, I saw both- the video and the denial. strange.
Posted by: SunnyDay | December 08, 2006 at 01:04 AM
Bill Clinton had worse rumors.
Posted by: Huggy | December 08, 2006 at 07:05 AM
Bill Clinton also got impeached.

I remember hearing that about someone's personal life, but I couldn't remember who.
Posted by: MayBee | December 08, 2006 at 07:53 AM
Guiliani has a lot of skeletons in his closet too. Early polling suggest the Christian right doesn't care about them - at this point. But I'm not sure they have heard the half of it.

Technically, 2005 was only one year ago...

Perhaps he and Giuliani should run on the same ticket.
Posted by: Semanticleo | December 08, 2006 at 09:53 AM
Sure, cleo, the "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" ticket. They'd win in a landslide.
This is lame, even for you.

"Sure, cleo, the "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" ticket."
Those Islamofascists don't believe in this quote. They will kill anyone for any tiny reason. Like Somalia telling its people to pray 5 times per day or be beheaded.

Richardson at least has the right idea about taxes. I say he and Evan Bayh probably have about an equal chance of gaining the nomination. But dems will go for either Clinton or Obama or Gore if he gets in. Hil will have to do some fast talking that she can win but the dems want a flashy candidate this time to make upfor Kerry's lackluster candidacy.

Dangerous Intersection of Conyers and Wilson [Jack Fowler]
Heady times at last night’s House Judiciary Committee Christmas party – a pal says Joe Wilson was there, at the invitation of panel Democrats, and was the sole individual recognized by incoming Dem chairman Rep. John Conyers. “Whoever said impeachment is off the table obviously hasn't told Conyers and wasn't at the party,” sneered my friend, who said this is the first year Wilson has been at panel’s holiday fete (it’s primarily attended by Committee Members, staffs, and families). “[Outgoing GOP chairman Rep. Jim] Sensenbrenner said a few words as did Conyers, who thanked Wilson for attending and led a round of sporadic applause for him. . . . Wilson arrived early, stayed late, and spent a lot of time chatting with the top Democratic staff.” Strap yourself in – it’s going to be a bumpy 2007.

I dunno, that Wen ho Lee thing could get very messy for Richardson, and a Clinton holds the cards about the truth about that.
Posted by: Jane | December 08, 2006 at 01:40 PM
I always get Richardson mixed up with Sandy Burglar. When I see one, I associate him with the other. I wonder if anyone else does that, because it sure as hell won't help.
Posted by: Jane | December 08, 2006 at 01:42 PM
Wilson as a dem player for 07 and 08? In his dreams. He's probably already tired of being out of the spotlight in California or wherever he lives so he has to re-insert himself into the Big Time. Val is no longer his entry card so he has to schmooze his past supporters and advocates into making him a part of the action in Washington. He'll always only be a wannabee and only he doesn't know it yet.
Posted by: maryrose | December 08, 2006 at 01:52 PM
Clarice, that's a nest of interesting bedfellows.
Posted by: mariposa | December 08, 2006 at 01:54 PM
The last time Conyers and Wilson appeared publicly together it was at the Conyers Playhouse hearings which broke up when Wilson's VIPS pay Ray McGovern launched into his anti-semitic tirade and the sentient members of the committee hot footed it to the exit.

Sort of pathetic, isn't it? Such obvious desperado social faux pas.

Ahh, but the August 2005 post cited a Christmas 2004 party (I was a bit slow in breaking whatever the "news" was, if we can call vague, unsourced rumors "news".

"due to a private life that, in his phrase, made Bernie Kerik look like a choir boy."
So he can reach out to Democrats, what's the big deal?
I mean, unless, *gasp*, he was sinnin' with wimmin. That'll lose him Pelosi's district for sure. That's Giuliani's problem. He cheated on his wife, which will piss off the social conservatives, and he did it with a woman, which will piss off the Democrats.

Don't be so coy. What is Richardson suspected of doing?
Posted by: TCO | December 09, 2006 at 11:43 AM
Suffice it to say, it's a 'zipper' thing.
Posted by: Laurent | January 21, 2007 at 12:27 PM
No. It doesn't suffice. Just say what the rumor is.
