The other day someone branded as untrue my statement about Nifong calling the accused hooigans. Here is just a part of the charges against Nifong with the bar:

But he has also admitted going too far in some of his public comments. In his interview with The Times last week, for example, Mr. Nifong said he was wrong to have described members of the lacrosse team as “a bunch of hooligans.”

According to the bar complaint, the “hooligan” remark was one of many comments by Mr. Nifong that violated ethics rules because they were likely to heighten “public condemnation of the accused.”

It may have been wrong for him, as the prosecutor to say what he thinks out loud, but the fact is they are hooligans.

GDaddy:

It was so nice to see a reasoned response to Sara. What a gentleman.
Sara:
FWIW from someone who seldom comments but often reads, it is clear you carry many hurts which affect your thinking on several issues.

Truth be known we all have something in our past which does the same, some just choose to bury them and move on while others become
advocates for those who have suffered the same troubles. I see nothing wrong or offensive about people expressing their opinion on issues even if I might disagree. The world would be a small, boring place if
we all thought alike.

Nuh-thing. to. be. gained.

It ain't trying to shut anybuddy up. It's trying to recognize a STALEMATE.

Jane

Be careful Jane, that type of remark will get you branded around here, especially when I say I agree completely.

I don't think so. And if it does, so be it. I don't think she was raped based on what I have heard so far. My own theory is that there was some ugly racism going on, and she decided to take her revenge. I think I can imagine what that feels like.

I despise the victimization of America and especially the left's penchant to make women the victim all the time.

I'm not sure what you are saying here.

You have spent many years feeling like a victim, and that horrid chapter has come to an end. Be careful about that transformation. It's a lot to come to terms with. It is a horrible thing to feel victimized. I don't know if it is easier if you feel comfortable with the role, or if you fight it every step of the way. But it hurts.

Unfortunately that is not really what the Duke case is about. It's about 3 kids who have been framed for rape by a politically motivated prosecutor. In that circumstance we never reach the victim. But as I said she has different remedies.

The legal case in this matter is about the Duke guys, not about the woman, which is probably why you are getting such resistence.

Holly

SAD,

Darlin', I know what you're going through with the chemo. I've been doing chemo for three years now -- breast cancer. I can deal with the lack of energy and stomach ailments, but the chemo brain has been the pits for me. I can't think.

However, for me, diet can clear up some of the fog. Iron and protein. Some weeks, red meat helps. Other weeks, spinach and yogurt. This week? Fish and cottage cheese. All day long. *grin*

Email me anytime.

And love, strength, and God's blessings to you.

Holly

Sara (Squiggler

CAL, there was no hounding, the email was written just hours after the event.

G'daddy

Sara, After the initial story on the "second Duke rape", there has been very little in the local press. With the exception of the Charlotte Observer in it's first story, I do not believe the race info on the accuser and accused has been reported. No arrests have been made so far. The accuser is a Duke student and the accused is not believed to be a Duke student.

Jane

H&R,

You are such a softie! And you will never live it down! HA!

hit and run

Fuggin fug everyone and fug you too.,

Oh, crap, my "supervision" is home,

I was never here. mmmmmmkay.

Sara (Squiggler

Jane, I have not ever felt like a victim. I take responsibility for my actions and deal with the consequences. Sometimes the consequences have been really awful and life sucks, but that does not make me a victim. I guess I'm very different and that makes me hard to understand, but I really don't like having motives ascribed to me that are false and/or misleading.

So I leave you all to your sugar-coated worlds and pray you never have something bad happen to you that requires people to do what is right instead of what is expedient.

My own theory is that there was some ugly racism going on, and she decided to take her revenge.

My theory is exactly the same only I think these boozed up guys figured she was fair game because of the racism.

Jane

Sara,

I'm off to bed. Hang tough!

Gary Maxwell

Show me the sworn testimony where the alleged victim has changed her story multiple times.

Do your own research and stop asking others to spend hours to defray your own lack of initiative and be kind enough to admit your ignorance on the subject until you do.

KC JOHNSON blog Durham in Wonderland should be sufficient to open your eyes if you really have any interest to know the truth.

Gary Maxwell

Here is Bryan Proffitt potbanger extraordinare in his own words. I defy you to find a sliver of daylight between him and Sara on this case:

“We have a commitment to believing those who come forward with stories of survival first . . . Something dehumanizing, frightening, and wrong happened in that house. Regardless of the specifics, there is healing to be done and justice to be fought for.” In other words, don’t let the facts get in the way of a good crusade.

This case, Proffitt explained, “is the ‘Rape CNN.’ It is the sensationalized version of what happens every single day in this world.” What did the case expose? Among other things, that

America, and the world, is sick with white supremacy and racism; heterosexism and homophobia; patriarchy, sexism, and transphobia; and poverty and capitalist excess . These systems all interact to create a culture of violence that must be changed. We teach our children the lessons of these systems, and they grow up to reinforce them. We must dismantle these systems if we hope to end the onslaught of violence . . . Survivors will create the path forward. In resisting violence, homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, and capitalism, survivors of oppression generate the vision for the rest of us to follow.

Like it or not you are following the path laid out by the Workers of the World Party.

Dan

Take it over to KC Johnson's blog, please?

Sara (Squiggler

Grow up Gary. And I tried to find all your statements, they flat out don't exist yet and you know it. You sound like Pete's broken record.

Gary Maxwell

Nice try but you are the one stuck in the past and lashing out at innocents in some misguided attempt to get redress for a wrong done to you long ago.

You did no research, have been calling these guys names for months without anything ( and I mean nothing ) to back you up. And when anyone tries to talk any sense to you, you start with the poor victim routine. I am sick of the act.

She said 20 accusers, then 4 then 3. She said Evansd had a moustache. I could go on and on but why. You are deaf, dumb and blind. At least Pete comes by his honestly.

Ralph L.

I still haven't seen anything about the 2nd case in the Burlington paper. Instead, there's an Elon Univ. student who is half paralyzed after a 3 am post-party brawl. Police say other students are not being helpful. It's a nasty old world sometimes.

Gary Maxwell

KC Johnson in his own words about the accuser and her various tales. This is for those who have an open mind and wonder if the crap being spewed here is correct. If your mind is made up, just shine this on:

Much of this case has reflected an upside-down view of the criminal justice system, but perhaps no single aspect has been stranger than the consistent downplaying of a simple fact: the accuser has told myriad, mutually contradictory, stories, while the lacrosse players—everyone at the party—have maintained a consistent posture throughout.

* In her various tales, the accuser sometimes had 20 people raping her. Sometimes it was five; sometimes three. Sometimes two; sometimes zero.

* Sometimes, she claimed rape; sometimes it was sexual assault; sometimes it was just “groping.”

* Sometimes, the attackers (Adam, Matt, and Brett) were each one person; sometimes Adam and Matt were interchangeable, and the three names described only two people.

* Sometimes, Dave Evans had a mustache; sometimes, he didn’t.

* Sometimes, Kim Roberts stole the accuser’s money; sometimes, she didn’t.

* Sometimes, there were three accomplices to rape who separated the accuser from Kim Roberts; sometimes, there weren’t.

* Sometimes, the accuser remembered the precise time the non-rape occurred; sometimes she didn’t.

Ralph L.

Gary, it's time to be a gentleman and give it up. Why do you care what she thinks, she's no one important?
Now you can both get mad at me and have something in common.

Gary Maxwell

Nobody but TM tells what and when I post. Period and it aint open for discussion. If you meant to help, thanks but I dont need any. Otherwise just skip over the post, you are free to not read anything I post.

Sara (Squiggler

Who the hell cares what K.C.Johnson says? Only you, I guess.

K.C. Johnson: I am a professor of history at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center, where I teach offerings in 20th century U.S. constitutional, political, and diplomatic history.

You did no research, have been calling these guys names for months without anything ( and I mean nothing ) to back you up. And when anyone tries to talk any sense to you, you start with the poor victim routine. I am sick of the act.

What a bunch of lying crap. I have been biting my tongue to stay away from ad homs where you are concerned, but your motives leave you very suspect.

Now that you are exposed as an idiot or worse, I'm going to bed.

Ralph L.

You can post what you please, but it's ugly of you to aggravate a lady who's had a hard life of late. I would hope that would be beneath your dignity.

G'daddy

Gary, Personal attack is guaranteed not to help you convince anyone of your point. It only causes upset and anger.

Ralph, The Duke Chronicle (student newspaper) has the most complete story on the "2nd" rape. http://media.www.dukechronicle.com/media/storage/paper884/news/2007/02/13/News/OffEast.Rape.Investigation.Continues-2716034.shtml

As a Carolina alumnus, I'm glad it's them rather than us with the problems.

Gary Maxwell

My grannie always insisted "it takes one to know one." Staying away from ad hom, hmmm? "Biased, chavinist, reading challenged". All your words directed at me. "Grow up" is adult discussion? I got it, its all about trying to quiet your critics, and that way you can post whatever you want without fear of any challenge. Sorry that I refuse to play.

Now you ask who cares what KC Johnson writes? A fine question indeed. Read more than his short bio. The man is the Charles Johnson of this case. ( You remember the guy who blew the lid off the Dan Rather fraud dont you?).

The man is an encyclopedia of the case. He reads and retains every case filing, he reads every newspaper article and column and it seems like every blog that ventures into the case. He has an understated style and manages to get quotes from some who you would suspect would be quite hostile to him since he never forgets a quote and loves to point out hypocrisy. But since you think Defense Attys. are spinning in motions they file with the court, then of course so is KC by inference. It might be instructive to some, but unlikely to you, that deliberate misstating facts in open court or in motions filed would be subject to sanctions by the judge and the Bar. So far the only guy appearing before the Bar is Nifong, but hey maybe you are right and its going to be a parade to the Bar soon. Until that happens or at least until the Prosecution actually files an answer disputing facts in various filing, like the idiot I am, I am going to take them as a given.

I believe marriage is not a right. It is a privelege granted by society. I, as a member of our society, wish to grant the privilege of marriage to same-s*x couples.

I'm serious.

Now come hit me for a while, leave Sara alone.

Ralph L.

What year did you graduate? My late uncle was there right after WWII, and his father-in-law and my 2nd cousin both taught there through the 50's. My mom and aunt went to WC, but visited often. If you haven't been back lately, you wouldn't recognize much of the town, or the whole area.
Duke was one of the schools Tom Wolfe researched for his last novel.

Gary, since Sara's left I'll tell you I really hope Nifong gets jail time. Not likely, but justified.

Ha, killed another thread. Lots of drama in this one.

I dont know where you got the idea that you know my position on same sex marriage? The fact is apparent that you are mistaken however. I think it should be granted, but with the simple concession that it not be called marriage. Marriage has always been defined as a union of male and female. Civil unions work just fine by me.

Disappointed?

I told her about some comments I thought were particularly funny.

Wait. Don't answer that last question.

That was my attempt at a thread killer.

However, I said 'marriage' not 'civil unions' so I am NOT disappointed.
