Thank you!

Best wishes to the Capt who single-handedly did more to change the political climate in Canada than anyone with the possible exception of Stephen Harper.

U.S. Is Extending Tours of Army

Correction Appended

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced through the Pentagon that American forces now serving in Iraq will be ordered to extend their tours of duty, and stay there indefinitely.

We expect all soldiers to extend their tour of duty for the remainder of their natural lives", Gates said to a reporter this afternoon. "It's very expensive for us to keep sending troops in and out, in and out, in and out. It's much cheaper and more efficient just to leave them there".

Gates assured the soldiers that they will have to spend the rest of their lives there but that probably won't be more than five years.

Here, here for the good Captain.

May he stand athwart history yelling "Avast!"

- Capt Ed

clarice

I'm afraid you don't know what my reference was, DEMO, before the last election the Liberals succeeded in preventing the Canadian press from reporting the details of a Liberal corruption scandal to the voters. Capt Ed got the details, published them, and the word spread thru/out Canada leading to the Libs resounding defeat.

lurker9876

Clarice, wish you could go online and be interviewed by Captain's Quarters. Seems that today he's focusing on "Credibility" while covering the debacle over those US attorney firings (Gonzales NEEDS to stay), Green Zone or outside green zone bombings, Imus, and maybe Fred Thompson.

Have you been online with Mac Ranger's show?

clarice

I was online with him (Mac) once, lurker.

DEMO

I am quite aware of the scandal, since Paul Martin is my relative. Martin was cleared in the scandal. Cap Ed wasn't a factor in the Liberals loss, and your statement "who single-handily did more to change the political climate in Canada" is patently absurd. If you were a Canadian you would realize how ridiculous your statement is.

lurker9876

Sigh, thought that even with two trips to Canada, Captain's Quarters conversed with the Canadian bloggers to help them change the political climate in Canada?

Anyways, today's hits from Don Surber

Instapundit shares my view as did Winds of Change that breaking the ban on reporting the Gomery Commission findings by Capt Ed had a significant impact on the results.

Of course, you are free to disagree.

DEMO

Clarice,

Instapundit isn't a good reference point for Canada. Wind and Change is read primarily by Americans, then United Kingdom, and Canada comes in third at 3.8% for viewers just above Belgium and Saudi Arabia:

Windsofchange.net users come from these countries

United States 50.0%
United Kingdom 4.8%
Canada 3.8%
Belgium 3.2%
Saudi Arabia 3.2%

So what you'r saying is that Captain Ed had nothing to do with the Canadian conservative win. That must mean the majority of Canadians just got pure sick of the liberal agenda on their own.

DEMO

Capt Ed was no more a factor then Mr. Ed. was in the last election. Canadians were primarily upset with the Federal sponsorship scandal in Quebec and thirteen years of Liberal dominance. Harper leads a minority government. His base of support is in Alberta, which is more conservative and independent then the other provinces. It's hard to see how he grows his base outside of Alberta.

Jane

Wow, if anyone deserves that honor, it's the Captain. He is undeniably one of the clearest thinking bloggers out there. Good for him!

Jane

Paul Martin is my relative.

That explains a lot. Money buys stuff, doesn't it?

DEMO

Jane,

I doubt you know anything about Paul Martin. Martin assumed the leadership of the Liberal party after resigning because of Chretien, who was responsible for the Federal sponsorship scandal. Martin is regarded as one of the greatest Finance Ministers in Canadian history. His personal story is fascinating and worth taking time to read. He didn't need money, he owns Canada Steamship Lines Inc.

Jane

I know a ton about Martin because I read Captain Ed. And I have the same opinion of him that I have of you.

Your computer skills are limited among others. Take care.

Rick Ballard

Jane,

Martin was one of the charlatans involved with Strong and Kofi in the OFF scandal wasn't he? Did a little bidness with Saddam on the side? Part of the corporate Canadian slime mold that included Desmarais and had a piece of COGEMA to boot. Dime a dozen limo liberal.

Jane

He's a slime. The chances of him losing the election were slim to none, particularly given the news blackout - successfully defeated by Capt ed - legally I might add. Canadians are overwhelmingly liberal, so Martin had to be a huge slime to lose that election. And yeah, I seem to recall all those ties. Maybe Ferret will ask his "relative" to come in and talk about his escapades in oil for food. Of course Ferret probably assumes being Canadian means he's related to martin and has never spoken to the man in his life. What a joke!

DEMO

I guess it's only a matter of time before the Bush administration decides to invade Canada so they can bring these Molson-swigging, maple-mongering, pot smoking, liberal Zamboni drivers to their knees! The noted American author, Jonah Goldberg, suggested that the United States "launch a quick raid into Canada" and blow something up -- "perhaps an empty hockey stadium." That would cause Canada to stop wasting its money on universal health insurance and instead fund a military worthy of the name, so that "Canada's neurotic anti-Americanism would be transformed into manly resolve." With the world's longest undefended border betwixt us, you've got a lot of options of where to cross. The border is wide open, with usually less than a 10 minute wait, so you can invade Canada and also be home for dinner. Canada has oil, Moose, beavers, and beer.

Best Regards

Maybeex

Best wishes to the Captain, who seems to be a genuinely nice and good man.
