Tks Clarice...Is that good?

cboldt

My previous note had an omitted "negative". There will be NO [Rule 33] motion for a retrial.

Jane

Tks Clarice...Is that good?

It's typical. Absent a smoking gun there is not much chance that the Judge will grant a new trial.

lurker9876

Sounds like the Team Libby felt that they have a better chance with the appeal process than they have for a retrial, especially if they get another democratic-heavy jury.

Besides, if they win the appeals process, wouldn't they have a better chance with a more conservative judge?

There is no way that Waxman will get his hands on documents relating to political strategy. Such documents as are produced will be only those that are responsive to specific categories indentified in the governing subpoenas, and those subpoenas are restricted to matters legitimately within the purview of Waxman's committee. To the extent he seeks more it will be resolved in the courts, and it will be resolved adversely to Waxman.

lurker9876

Waxman wants to extend the scope of his committee. Who determines "legitimately" within the purview of his committee?

Wolfowitz Apologizes for 'Mistake'

World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz has apologized in public and saying he is very sorry for getting a State Department job for Shaha Ali Rizla. "I'm very sorry. I meant to get her into the Justice Department and made a stupid mistake. I apologies to all concerned", said Mr. Wolfowitz

In her new job Miss Rizla will be earning a much larger salary then Secretary of State Condi Rice's in her public relations job at the US State Department.

Other Tom:

Dudn't matter. The courts could rule Waxman insane, order him removed from congress -- and the narrative reported in the media and conventional wisdom would be that Bush is to blame, and Rove in legal jeopardy for it.

LET CYNICISM REIGN!

DEMO

ABSOLUTELY. SHOW TRIALS TOO.

Maybeex

When the NSA was reported to have tracked phone calls from known terrorists to people in the US, many on the left claimed the NSA was actually tracking the communications of Bush's political enemies.
Now they are actually actively calling for Waxman's political foes to turn over communication, so that Waxman can use them in a political investigation.

Made up political communication gathering = bad
actual political communication gathering = good

U.S. Agencies Fail Cybersecurity Tests

The U.S. departments of Defense and State received F grades, and Homeland Security a D, in the latest scorecard measuring their information security measures.

The Department of Homeland Security's 2006 grade improved slightly from 2005, when it received an F. Representative Tom Davis, a Virginia Republican, said it was "troubling" that three of the main agencies fighting terrorism received low grades again in their compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act.

The White House also received an F for failure to lead by example," Paller added. "Other [chief information officers] in governments and corporations have a right to look to the White House and their security people for models of excellence in cybersecurity. They won't find it there."

Iran wants to talk to Bush.

Democrat alternative foreign policy: send Pelosi to see Osama and Amadinijad. Maybe she can talk them into forgiving us.

Lurker's link,
A top MP said on Friday the Tehran parliament would favour talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after her controversial visit to Iran's ally Syria, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

"We are ready for talks with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi," said Mohammad Nabi Rudaki, deputy head of the influential national security commission in Iran's conservative-dominated parliament.

"Parliamentary talks can discuss bilateral problems and bring US, European and Iranian nations closer. They could also consider Iran's peaceful nuclear issues," he said.

But Rudaki added that "this willingness does not mean a resumption of political ties with the occupying and bullying US government."

Who does it represent political ties to?

Jeff Dobbs

PUK:
Who does it represent political ties to?

Well, your question was rhetorical and the answer assumed by all sane people. But since I am mrs hit and runless and quite insane, I will answer.....

It represents political ties to the faction of US politics that are willing to be dhimmis.

Has all the appearance of Virgil 'The Turk' Sollozzo's offer to the Corleones.

Seems ironic the worlds only superpower can be beaten by a third rate dictatorship as long as the Loyal Opposition is kept on side.

AN IRANIAN soldier ordered to look after one of the 15 British sailors and marines captured in the Shatt al-Arab waterway, has told of the abuse he suffered at the hands of the prisoners during their two-weeks in captivity.

In an interview televised by Arabian TV and news network Al Jazeera, Lance Corporal Yous al Shudavbindere tearfully claimed he was either ignored or verbally abused by the prisoners before, to his relief, president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad granted their release.

Shudavbindere said: "We were instructed to treat the prisoners with the utmost respect and as long as Allah is my witness I did just as I was ordered.

"My English pretty good as I studied for an English degree at Cambridge and in all my two years in England I've never heard language like it.

Oh, they're in bed.

clamboring over you as you post

Yeah, this has become a bit of contention here lately. One or the other kid* will get up in the middle of the night and try and sneak into bed. I rarely wake up at the time -- but mrs hit and run usually gives them the ok to get into bed. Yet, by about 4 am, the kid has "snuggled up" to me...sounds cute, sure, but that means....I can no longer sleep. Not a huge deal....I am up at 5am no matter what, yet, that last hour of sleep is bigger than it seems -- when I get to about 3 pm at work...........

----------------
*whoa. Never thought about this before, but we've never had BOTH kids trying to finagle a night in mommy and daddy's bed on the same night. The kids may be coordinating the insurgency.......yeeeikes.

Jeff Dobbs

I **deeply** apologize for a poor memory....didn't someone here contact CREW about the Pelosi conflict of interest with her husband's connections and her committee?

Was there ANY response?

Oh, no doubt. No doubt. No doubt. If I EVER complain about my kids for any reason, I am an idiot. An Idiot.

My kids really, and I don't care how prideful it sounds, my kids are the best kids E-V-E-R.

Yeah, they're nuts. They're taxing. They're enough to power a nuclear sub.

And I wouldn't change A THING about them.

Even if in the moment, I wish they would scoot over toward mrs hit and run while I hit the snooze button one more time.

clarice

Yeah. I know. And then there are those cute jammies, and that fresh from the bath smell and warm cuddles. It is the very best thing in the world. (Well, maybe tie with sleep)

Barry

Ah, but they will become teenagers.

Jeff Dobbs

Barry:
Ah, but they will become teenagers.

Yes....just this week, we're all hanging out and mrs hit and run turns to hit and run jr and says.......don't grow any more....and jr says, ok mommy, as he cuddles up to her on the sofa.

Of course, an hour later, after eating his second sandwich, he says, "I'm hungry."

Oy.

And, just a quick story about when we moved here....it's a new neighborhood, and we picked it for that reason foremost among many. Many, many kids the same age as ours. Well, 4 months after we move in, the house next to us is completed -- and we notice the family who has bought it stopping by intermittently to check it out. Oh no! They have teens!!!! No!!!! I was a little disheartened. My mind races to the thought of me at 17 living next door to my kids!!!!!!!

All for naught. These teens are more mature than me. OK, that's not saying THAT much, but seriously. What a marvelous family these folks are. Prejudiced against teenagers? You bet I am. Fortunate to have caught the exception rather than the rule next door? Well, I certainly think so.

Barry

Well, full disclosure here. I've survived three teens and may well survive the fourth and last one. They were a pleasure when they were small. They were, and are, a pleasure as teens (mostly). I marvel at how much better they are than I was. Most of the credit goes to my wife of course. I cannot imagine a life without them.

Enjoy the time you share with them. The time goes by fast. It seems only yesterday they were still in the "cuddling" stage...

Grandchildren. I look forward to more Grandchildren.

Jeff Dobbs

Grandchildren. I look forward to more Grandchildren.

It's late (or early Sat, depending on your view), so pardon me if I ask for a little indulgence in a personal story........but....

That was my dad. I was the first kid (of three) to get married. We didn't have our first kid until after 7 years of marriage. My younger brother got married a few years after we did.

My dad got a little impatient.

So......he made an offer. The first grandkid got college paid for.

Off to the races!

We didn't get pregnant for those seven years due to medical reasons. So, we went IVF. My brother and his wife probably had sex once and got pregnant.

Ends up, mrs hit and run's due date and my brother's wife's due date ------- were the EXACT SAME DAY.

So, about two weeks before the due date, mrs hit and run has an appointment. The doctor does all the tests, and comes back and says her blood pressure is really high. Not good. In fact, no emergency, but go home, pack your things, head to the hospital and they're going to induce.

So we go home, pack our things, and make calls to family saying we're going to the hospital. One of those calls was to my brother. Ca-ching! Here comes college baby.

We go to the hospital, mrs hit and run has an 18 hour labor -- and out comes hit and run jr.

Call my parents to give them the news....and....well....turns out my brother's wife went into labor a couple hours after our phone call, and she delivered after about an hour's labor. Beating us by about 14 hours.

So, we decided that my dad's offer was based on day, not hours, minutes or seconds....so, it was a tie (that's what *we* decided, papa hit and run has never said definitively what the ruling is).

Oh and by the way, both we and my brother and his wife decided to keep the name secret until birth......and yeah, the cousins have the same first name. Same name, born on the same day.

And just to cap it all off.....when my brother went to get his son's social security number, there was a mix up ... and my brother claims that it was because my son had the same name on the same birth date....not sure if that's true (he lives in ID, we lived in CO at the time) but it's a nice ending to the story.

Oh and postlogue - my son is now 5. And this fall, my mom and dad are looking forward to seeing their 7th grandchild born (my as yet unmentioned sister will be having her third)

Maybeex

Hmmm....nobody asked any questions when your nephew was named Hit and Run Jr?

When my kids were really little, seeing teens move in next door would have meant one wonderful possibility...babysitters!!!!!

Sara

That's what I was thinking Maybee.

Jeff Dobbs

Very good point Maybee...

The neighbors next door here have two teenage boys. Not to say that boys are worse than girls in terms of behavior -- just that boys don't necessarily usually babysit.

lurker9876

Hypothetical question:

In times of a war, many Americans support Bush. How many of you would continue to support Bush during peacetime? If 9/11 had not happened, would you still support Bush?

just that boys don't necessarily usually babysit.

I have boys, so I loved it when I could get boy babysitters. They would do terrible delinquent things that girl babysitters wouldn't do, like using tape to make themselves mummies and shooting paintball guns into the woods (with my permission).

Barry in CO

The RNC or WH email servers should be backed up by tape storage- we have these tape backups where I work that have storage capacities measured in terrabytes. We save everything. Email is never truly 'gone' until relevant hard drives and tape drives are erased or destroyed. Those emails are possibly still out there, somewhere.

But yeah, 'I deleted it' is right up there with 'I didn't know it was loaded' and 'Honey, your butt looks fine in those pants'.
