JM Hanes

I have zero talent for live blogging.

Jeff Dobbs

GIULIANI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pardon Libby

Woooohooooo

100+points to Giuliani

Jeff Dobbs

JMH:
I have zero talent for live blogging.

BS

JM Hanes

Rudy rocks!

Jane

Libby Pardon:

Duncan Hunter - need to look at the transcript and those border agents should be pardoned.

yes or no:

no, no. no no sentence grossly excessive - go Rudy GO RUDY the Judge sucked yes - and it's important and a man's life is at stake GO RUDY

Romney - prosecutor abused his discretion - study it closely, Brownback yes

Well well well, Tommy Thompson, examine the record

tancredom yes.

So Im impressed

Sue

Woohoo! Tancredo. Short. Sweet. And received applause. Pardon Libby!

Jeff Dobbs

Brownback and T Thompson get points too!!!

(did I get Brownback right? I was calling BS on JMH when he was speaking)

Jeff Dobbs

Who's the winner at halftime?!?!?!?!?!?

I have NO idea.

I can't judge while live-snarking!!!

Sue

I haven't moved off Rudy. I would support Mitt Romney. And I'm still waiting on Fred Thompson to enter the picture.

Actually, even Ron Paul hasn't disgusted me tonight. It might be the contrast between any republican and a democrat for me though. ::grin::

Jane

I think Rudy is winning, and I give him extra points on the Libby pardon because he was a tough tough prosecutor and he wouldn't bash a prosecutor without reason.

Rick Ballard

I am so happy to have been wrong about the candidates hiding from the pardon question.

"McCain is really off his game tonight."

JMH - mind if I edit that a bit?

McCain is really off.

There we go.

Jeff Dobbs

Sue:
Actually, even Ron Paul hasn't disgusted me tonight.

heh! It's true!!! I noted above that everyone was watching ron waiting for a screw up and he didn't deliever.

Jane:
I think Rudy is winning, and I give him extra points on the Libby pardon because he was a tough tough prosecutor and he wouldn't bash a prosecutor without reason.

AND he was in SDNY,,,,,,right???

Jeff Dobbs

RICK B IS IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!

Come on, throw a few back and stick around!!!

Jane

what is SDNY? Southern district? Sounds familiar. But I would guess he knows Fitz. I may be wrong

Maybeex

My parents called. I missed the Libby question, except for Tommy bringing up Clinton. Ha!

Maybeex

I need to know more about what Rudy said about Libby.

Jeff Dobbs

Yes, Southern District of NY.....

Jeff Dobbs

Maybee:
My parents called. I missed the Libby question

I QUESTION THE TIMING!!!!

Maybeex

One guy stood up to answer the question, and now they all have to.

Jane

Why did Mccain stand? Oh please don't have that become a trend.

Re: Iraq - how do we make sure the Iraqi government works?

Paul- we should leave

Rudy - he stand too - oh dear Your service is one of the reasons we are safe - I agree with that. We need to do some nation building. "people can only embrace democracy when they have an ordered existance" hmm

GO RUdy - what if General Petraus comes back and says that THINGS ARE GOING WELL!

Can a conservative platform embrace a conservation agenda?

no

move on

Jane

Maybee, Rudy said Fitz was an overreaching ass and it was horrible and he should be shot.

Well maybe not all of that.

Maybeex

Can a conservative platform embrace a conservation agenda?

The most personally conservative people I know are much more conservationist-y than the more liberal people I know.

Maybeex

Jane- thanks. I'll try to imagine what parts Rudy didn't say.

Jeff Dobbs

Jane:
Maybee, Rudy said Fitz was an overreaching ass and it was horrible and he should be shot.

Jane, I LOVE YOU.

MORE NOW THAN EVER.

EVER.

Rick Ballard

Tancretin wouldn't know a conservative principle if it bit him on the ass. Where does the "profit incentive" come from to reward "conservation"?

Big government jerk.

Elliott

While we're on the subject of Giuliani's SDNY tenure, I wonder if Louis Freeh (the quondam SDNY federal prosecutor, district court judge, and FBI Director) has had any comment on the Libby trial.

Jane

Rudy will change the health insurance model, health insurance should be like homeowners insurance - that is actually quite brilliant. We need free market principles and all the democrats are socialists.

Duncan Hunter: we need to buy our health insurance over state lines. I can get behind that.

Oh gawd, a question about a single payer insurer. (Now everyone is standing) Thompson - only 7% in wellness, lets educate.

Maybeex

Someone should make Tommy Thompson the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Elliott

BTW H&R,

Not that I believe you are in any danger, but be careful not to jump the snark.

JM Hanes

You know, I wouldn't pick Duncan Hunter for President, but I love the guy. In fact, I'm really proud of everybody onstage -- even though I think Ron Paul is nuts -- they are all giving substanstive answers to the questions. What a contrast to the Dems where it's all positioning, positioning, positioning, instead of actual positions.

Jeff Dobbs

Elliott:
Louis Freeh

Who did he just endorse????

And...why are you posting so sparingly here?!?!?!?!?!?

Jane

We should listen to Romney on healthcare because he did a pretty interesting thing in MA

Jeff Dobbs

JMH:
You know, I wouldn't pick Duncan Hunter for President, but I love the guy.

MEEEEE TOOOOO!!!!

Elliott:
Not that I believe you are in any danger, but be careful not to jump the snark

You're right. But, when the wave hits, I will jump it with gusto......and h&r be damned, I will speak only as the bourbon directs me to

Maybeex

Ron Paul:Now we have accepted the principle of pre-emptive war. Now? Like, since Korea I'd say.

Jeff Dobbs

Yeah, they shoulda put seatbelts on the chairs.......

Jane

What is the most pressing moral issue facing the country today -

now that's an interesting question I guess. I have no clue what I think that is. Today it would have something to do with run amok prosecutors, or maybe trolling moonbats.

The value of Freedom is a good one -

Ron Paul - that we have accepted the principle of pre-emptive war - interesting

Brownback: he says life. (Oh Please sit down, he's the only person who talks about life and makes me think it would be different if he were a woman)

JM Hanes

BTW -- I've always believed business based healthcare was a bad idea. So naturally, Rudy thinks so too.

Rick: McCain is really off. Well, yes, I see how that's better.

Sorry Brownbeck, you're describing a small tent party, and I don't like it.

Maybeex

Did she say Romney's website has a Spanish-speaking virgin?

Jeff Dobbs

Did I say that right, Elliott? I hear your advice!

Jane

I missed the question to Romney - something about immigration.

boy I am so happy about the respnse to the Libby pardon. I'm so happy these guys have the guts to say "That was wrong". It really gives me hope.

JM Hanes

I have mixed feelings on just how much English, citizens should be required to know, but

Bi-lingual countries don't work? Surely, we just.

English is an endangered language? I don't think so. Try asking the French what they think about that.

Maybeex

BTW -- I've always believed business based healthcare was a bad idea. So naturally, Rudy thinks so too.

Yeah, I think lack of portability and rejection for existing conditions is a big problem with the current system.

Jane

Did she say Romney's website has a Spanish-speaking virgin?

I heard that too. It must be because he is very good looking.

This standing up thing is a little annoying altho I suspect it is easier to talk that way.

How do you differ from the present administration?

McCain: Spending - earmarks - hear hear!

Now wolf wants to change the question to Bush's biggest mistake. Rudy ignores him and talks about accountability.

Mitt, we have to have a vision

what'shis name - spending - and curing cancer. (Brownback)

Thompson - we need to transform health care (and wolf is pissing me off because that wasn't the question)

Tancredo - Bush ran as a conservative and governed as a liberal

Paul - president changed his foreign policy tune (well we did have 911)

gilmore - principle is the difference.

Maybeex

Not much applause for cutting funding in Iraq (Ron Paul)

Rick Ballard

"I've always believed business based healthcare was a bad idea."

It goes right next to paying taxes via payroll deductions.

Maybeex

Ooh oh. I'm suddenly realizing Duncan Hunter is exactly who I thought he was. Who's in the green tie?
I think I should start drinking-- this can't be that hard.

Jane

Great curling club in Nashua NH,

What does it mean to be an american

JM Hanes

Romney is really a goods & services guy isn't he?

Voters will vote for "the professional spenders" -- if Thompson could manage a decent delivery, that could have been the soundbyte of the night.

Actually, Brownback is not just talking small tent, he's talking small issues, small thinking -- He's a niche candidate. End of story.

Jane

Brownback is in the green tie

Maybeex

As the person who is constantly pressing the 2 for English in a Japanese-speaking country, I could not agree less with Tancredo on that one.

JM Hanes

"Now wolf wants to change the question to Bush's biggest mistake."

I noticed that too. Wolf is trying pretty hard to get the candidates to mix it up with each other too, isn't he?

Lady with the Lamp, followed by more bromides, groan.

Jane

How much do you believe in freedom? Now that should be his (Rudy's) bumper sticker.

What would you do to include moderate republicans and include independants - so let's go to someone who won't - sheesh

Maybeex

Brownback is in the green tie

I'm going long and saying that CNN had him improperly labeled at some point. If you guys love me, you'll agree.

JM Hanes

Jane -- I've still got my Dad's curling shoes in my coat closet.

JM Hanes

On the other hand, I don't love Duncan unconditionally.

Maybeex

"A Stool with Three Legs" can be Romney's bumpersticker.

Jane

oh Gawd - shouldn't the GOP act more like Schwarzenegger?

Duncan Hunter bows to no one and Rudy Mitt and Mccain are in bed with Ted Kennedy. Sheesh.

Romney: Reagan sat on a stool with 3 legs - military economy and family plus optimism.

Rudy - nominate me. democrats can't say "Islamic terrorism" don't raise taxes

McCain: Protect family, take the lead in fighting the war against radical islamic extremism.

The end

JM Hanes

I agree Maybeex, I agree.

Maybeex

I love Rudy. Love him.

Jane

I've still got my Dad's curling shoes in my coat closet.

Now how cool is that! Have you ever been a curler?

Rick Ballard

Fred's on Fox.

Jeff Dobbs

ME: Giuliani wins. Mitt next.

(i have a problem with mccain)

Jane

I think this was Rudy's nite.

Jane

What happened to H&R - the little cut and runner!

Jeff Dobbs

whhhhheeeeeewwww. just changed to fox

Jane

me too - Fred is on!

Jeff Dobbs

BITE ME!!!!

But not until I come to MA, of cours

Jeff Dobbs

I LOOOVE JANE MOOOOORE THAN ANY OTHER!!!!!

Rick Ballard

1. Giuliani
2. Romney
3. U - pickem
12. Tancredo
17. Paul
22. McCain

Jeff Dobbs

22. McCain??????

Ok fine........

Maybeex

I do think our immigration is weird, that we don't check people as they leave the country (referring to a point that Rudy is making on CNN right now)

JM Hanes

Jane:
Afraid my predilection for nuance doesn't carry over into sports. I played squash. Have you ever tried curling yourself?

Rick Ballard

H & R,

Did you have hin lower?

Jeff Dobbs

Who the FFFFFFF got me to change my channel to Fox.....when the next segment will be Rosie vs Elizabeth Haselbeck? Buuuuuhhhhleeeeeecchhhhhhhl.....

Maybeex

Jeffrey Toobin just said Huckabee was the most eloquent in both debates. He thought his defense of evolution and life was breathtaking.

Jeff Dobbs

Lower than 22?

No...on the polls...but yes on my personal picek

Elliott

H&R:

And...why are you posting so sparingly here?!?!?!?!?!?

Often, it's because by the time I've read a thread someone has already made the point(s) I was thinking about making when I started reading the comments.

A good example is Rich's comment from earlier in this thread:

More wisdom from Judge Walton-if it were legitimate then why is Armitage free to travel the world saying how bad neo-cons are. If Libby obstructed the FBI's attempts to make inquiries of high gov't officials why is it that Grossman and Armitage could talk to one another before and after their FBI interviews.

From your lips to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals' ears, Rich.

Even though events in the courtroom were quite disheartening, Mr. Maguire and the thoughtful commenters here reminded me today how much I enjoy and value this site. And, yes, Other Tom, even in my state of gloom I laughed, as I always have, when you mentioned the toothbrush.

I intend to participate more often in future. Happily, as I have learned from long perusal of JOM, should "Posted by: Elliott" become ubiquitous upon this board, the culpability will belong to another and I will give H&R additional cause to mutter, "I BLAME BUSH."

Jeff Dobbs

FRED! Would PARDON! Libby!

clarice

Well--still trying to burn up al these fury in a constructive way. Put together a cathouse. Don't have the cat yet, but she comes here on July 11..I did a great job though the sisle rather cut into my hands.

What's next to do to keep me froma rampage? A Costco run, I think.

Sue

Okay. Cut the bourbon for H&R. First he loves Jane...more than me...do I have to remind you who my best friend is (think beer) and now his typing is going downhill...

Rudy...Rudy...Rudy...

I don't think even my man Fred can out debate Rudy. I hope conservatives are paying attention...if we beat Hillary this time, we won't have to worry about her again. Age is not a woman's friend.

clarice

Fred has been for a pardon for a long time. He's active in the Libby defense fund and has written about what a crap case this is numerous times.

JM Hanes

A Costco run...dearest Goddess, may the force be with you.

JM Hanes

Rudy...Rudy...Rudy...

Rick Ballard

Oops - made an error -
A1A. Fred
1. Giuliani
2. Romney

Sue, Sue, Sue...(and I LOVE my Texans!!
)

I LOVE EVERYONE!!!!!!!! Who gives me beer OR bourboun!!!!!

(apologies for the thunderstorms I've been trying to navigate!!!!)

JM Hanes

Boy, it must have just killed McCain to stand next to Rudy talking about the immigration bill and have to keep his mouth shut.

Jane

Have you ever tried curling yourself?

JMH

I was a big curler for a long time. Even played down for the nationals. It's probably been 15 years, but it was really great.

H&R I love you too but you are SOOOOO fickle.

Jeff Dobbs

I'M WITH FRED

With Frrrrreedddddd

Jeff Dobbs

Jane:
H&R I love you too but you are SOOOOO fickle.

I hope I am hot FICKLE with Libby................

clarice

Pat Cadell supports Fred's position on Libby, too--says he's right!!

Sue

Jane,

Ain't that the truth? He goes with the liquor, I'm afraid.

JM Hanes

Loved the real time reactions. Immigration -- read 'em weep, Senator.

Oh cripes. Now we have a panel of reporters on stage taking questions from the audience, in case anybody just didn't get it, I suppose. The debate about the debate.

OK, small fry is home, just in time to put CNN out of its misery.

Jeff Dobbs

F.U.C.K. IT

PARDON LIBBY.

Start there.

topsecretk9

http://www.imwithfred.com/

That's "I AM with Fred"

Friends, your encouragement has me thinking we can change Washington and help America meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. We're entering a new phase of this process and we aren't going to do things the same old way.

P.S. There's a lot more coming, so keep coming back...

JM Hanes

Jane: I'm impressed! You are soooo New England (in a good way!).

Sue

I hope I am hot FICKLE with Libby................

I tried to tell ya' to lay off the bourbon. ::grin::

clarice

JMH, it's a costco run or murder..So far I haven't found even a special prosecutor who went after someone for a Costco run.

Jeff Dobbs

I. AM. WITH. FRED.

I'm down with this..............

go on with yer bad self.....

Jane

I am very New england, altho I played for a while on a St. Paul team. Ah the prestige!
