Petraeus would be the hands-down choice were the honor not the trademarked property of Time Magazine. Hell, in the days of Harry Luce that once-proud mag would have been both happy and humbled to give it to him.

But my money is on Al Gore, or new UN Secretary General what's-his-name. Or you name it.

Sara

I voted for Petraeus in the Time online poll.

Bill O'Reilly announced tonight that the "Factor Man of the Year" is General David Petraeus.

I think Time will end up naming Imanutjob or the even nuttier Al Gore.

sbw

Steal away, Tom. I've stolen much from JOM and community. Proudly, and mostly giving credit. ;-)

Regards/sbw

Ann

Who really cares who Time names as the liberal of the year.

I bet more people read JOM than Time, so lets have:

"JOM Real Man of the Year" General David Petraeus

clarice

Love means never to have to credit stealing, sbw.

Ann

Clarice,

How was your vacation? I have been sick or snowed in or both, and thought of you in St. Johns.

kim

Yeah, DF, they consider it a big victory. Am I delusional or are they?

Well, It ain't getting regulated now. I'm sure they hope to make a big phony deal about privacy next year, to scare the witless.

Jane

I'm all for Petraeus as Man of the Year - regardless of the completely irrelevant Time Magazine.

I'm also all for Petraeus for VP.

Jane

Oh dear,

Ron Paul just called Huckabee a fascist on Fox News.

WE live in interesting times...

Rick Ballard

I dunno, Jane, I find the sight of the Vile Harridan taking Witch One on a whirlwind tour of Iowa to test a new shade of lipstick highly amusing. Iowans are rather famous for being able to identify a Poland China no matter what color lipstick she happens to be wearing at the moment.

A battle between the Ronulans and the Hucksters isn't really a bad thing is it? The Church Lady has already loosed a few photon torpedos - now its Perot's stupidest stepchild's turn.

The Clinton strategic concept of the perpetual campaign is proving to have been (to this point, anyway) ill conceived. It might have worked if the Odious Fishwife possessed even ten per cent of the sleazy charm with which Bubba was gifted.

There may be some deeper meaning to Hussein Il Jong and The Church Lady appearing to be on the brink of sweeping their respective caucuses in Iowa but we have to allow for the possibility that very few people are paying attention to the perpetual political circus.

clarice

Ann, St John's was great, thank you.

As for the Odious Slattern, Kaus says now that Bill and Hill are playing a couple again, we should have a right to know how often they actually spend under the same roof.

clarice

***actually spend TIME TOGETHER under the same roof**

Man of the Year: Yvo van Boer, the Crying Dutchman.

What a hoot.

narciso

In other news, Bobby Ghosh, the reporter with every insurgent's number on speed
dial points out how the surge of returning
Iraqi exiles is not all it's cracked up to be. I guess his pen pal Seif Abdaallah vdidn't succeed in his career plan

GMax

Well usually you dont go after a guy who is drawing votes that you would never get, if they will fall to another candidate you make that poor schmuck do his own work. So Paul thinks Huckleberry is taking some of his voters?

Since I think both are being astroturfed to some degree by Democrats in false flag ops, that certainly sounds reasonable to me.

But I guess it could be that Paul is just gone totally around the bend ( instead of halfway ) and no longer has his good faculties to reason available to him.

If they both disappeared, nary a tear would I shed.

kim

Man of the Year: Canon Andrew White, who brokered the fatwah against violence promulgated by the whole spectrum of Iraqi spiritual leaders in August, 2OO7, in the Year of Our Surge.

Gmax, I've been wondering about this, too. In Paul's case I think the lefty Truthers are legitimate fans, but I'd be curious to hear what you think is going on with Huckabee.

Appalled Moderate

kim:

That looks to be a superb suggestion.

The judgement Time will be drawing is whether some kind of tentative intelectual turning in our perception of global warming is more significant than some kind of turning in the war against the Iraqi insurgency. (Both, by the way, are tentative and easily reversed)

Inspired by Kim, I found this December 14 report by Canon White . Fascinating comparison between how things are now vs how they were in July, and also, an illustration of just how awful things had become.

Jane

OT: Some are talking about a Thompson surge in Iowa (link under my name)

It seemed like the wind started shifting after last week's debate, altho this election so far has been really hard to predict.

In a sea of mediocrity Thompson just keeps quietly taking it up a notch, so it's nice to see.

Your choices from the Time poll are:

J.K. Rowling

Al Gore

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Steve Jobs

Condoleeza Rice

General David Petraeus

Vladimir Putin

Hu Jintao

J.K. Rowling shown in the poll's first place.

I do not know how a comment I posted yesterday is duplicated as new today. I swear I didn't do it.

Jane

That's so funny Sara. I saw it and swore you posted that yesterday and wondered if you are going nuts.

Sara

Jane: I went nuts a long time ago, I'm sure of that. But I know I didn't repost that comment. ::smile

Bill in AZ

Can't forget "Bawling Hardman from Bali". Kinda covers everything and seems a natural for Time.

GMax

I'd be curious to hear what you think is going on with Huckabee.

Huck has a former Perotista as a campaign manager now, has taken some very liberal positions in the past on a variety of issues and once used Dick Morris as a campaign consultant. If that were not enough, now Paul takes out after him? Much of Paul support is War Haters and Truthers, which is fertile moonbat ground. If he thinks that he is losing some of them to Huckleberry, then I think its more looney dems trying to get a win/win in the pres race ( in other words if they can somehow engineer a tweedle dee and tweedle dum race, they have a great consolation when the Dem candidate disappoints again.

I have no proof, but Huck sure was getting a lot of favorable press ( ie all democrats ) for awhile there. Just might be a Townhouse memo we have not yet seen yet.

Sara

According to the latest Iowa poll, Romney is back on top by 3%, but that is still within the margin of error. I am convinced that The Huckster's poll numbers were being driven by the MSM and the left and did not reflect the true state of affairs within the Republican camp.

kim

Thanks, AM. In a sane world, Canon White would win the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Sistani.
=======================

Neo

Come on, this is Time. Remember the silvered piece of plastic that was supposed to act like a mirror, so we all could be people of the year.

It will have to be someone who can make them appear the fool later on, so it’s got to be Al Gore.

I’m sure all my Democrat friends will agree .. he was
.. right on NAFTA (rudely interrupting Perot on CNN while shipping US jobs elsewhere),
.. right on picking Joe Leiberman (who endorsed Republican John McCain today), and
.. right on the "settled science" of AGW (allowing him to get rich and look Nobel at the same time).

kim

I swear, Neo, AGW is the biggest contrarian play ever, but I haven't figured out where to place the bets, oh, and I haven't figured out where the money to place is either.
==========================

kim

Note the little notch ka Jane. It seems the idealogue as executive and the manager as operator model has found its new expression. So let him crap out procreating.

Jane

It's Putin

clarice

I am so surprised and disappointed. When Time picked TM last year, I thought they were headed in the right direction and now............*voice trails off and she peers sadly at the gloomy horizon*************

MayBee

I've been hesitant to bring this up, but I thought TIME chose *me* last year.

sophy

I will thank for my friends bringing me in this world. I am not regret to buy Hellgate Palladium .
