MoDo pens on Hillary and the aging woman factor and offers this:
It is also true that perfecting the outer shell has become an obsession in this country.
An obsession for whom? Has she checked the stats on obesity and overweight in America? One might infer that for an expanding portion of the country, "perfecting the outer shell" would refer to pie crusts or pizza.
That said, I have no doubt that in certain enclaves, such as Manhattan, and in certain industries, such as newsfolks attempting to cross into television, there is an obsession with looks. I just have a hard time believing it is a national trend.
"It is also true that perfecting the outer shell has become an obsession in this country."
There is also a time of life when it is necessary to acknowledge that the yolk has also passed its sell by date.

It's the shinola on the shell which approaches reflection perfection.

OT: Powerline reports that Putin is to be Time's man of the year.
A strange choice: Even accepting their view that MOTY status is not a stamp of approval (sorry TM), what has he accomplished in 2007 that merits such distinction?

revived Stalinist type totalitarianism
Yeah, I'm just not sure how remarkable an accomplishment that is. It was never really gone, or even in critical condition. All the infrastructure was in place, most of the kleptocrats are still around. And most of the citizenry seems still to be in a state of fear and submissiveness from 75 years of that stuff.

Jk, don't forget the vodka, jk. When the Czar banned the sale of alcohol at the outset of WWI, federal tax revenues were cut by a third. Infant mortality was a leading indicator in the 60's, ignored by the CIA, of failure of the USSR.

Growing up on a farm, I was always taught & I have always believed it's what inside that really counts....
But, in her case, I don't think there's anything inside and she does remind me of several farm animals.....

Jane,
Probably a Hillarybot.
H&R is still up at the North Pole teaching the polar bears about family planning.Their unusuall fecundity is putting the mockers on AGW - it's bad for business.

I heard a very thin mother chastise her approximately 9 year old daughter who was asking for beef jerky in the grocery store, by saying "you'll blow up and look like a toad if you keep eating all the time." The kid was pencil thin. We are a looks obsessed society. And women do get the brunt of it. Last I heard beef jerky was mainly protein and seasonings. Not many carbs there.

If Nancy Pelosi is not obsessed with her outer shell, I am a monkey's uncle. And despite all the Herculean effort, she still looks like the goalie on a dart team.

Hydrogenated oil - it's in everything. Your body can only use it to make fat.

I still can't believe that MoDo has a column in the NYT. Yea, it was MoDo's wet kiss to Team Hillary!
So let me see, the Red Witch has to fire up Broom One for an excursion around Iowa "to make herself appear warm-blooded" and MoDo can't seem to figure out which parts are "stage-managed and focus grouped".
BRINGING BACK THE FUNNY: "Mitt Romney, Barack Obama and John Edwards almost always look good, and pretty much the same, in dark suits or casual wear." I guess Joe Biden didn't get the memo.

I bet we could make a fairly long list of older women (60+) who are or were in leadership positions in government and industry, who are not obsessed with appearing younger.
I think botox is hilarious - people with absolutely no facial expression? - I mean they can't smile? or raise their eyebrows? I wonder if their skin is numb.
Posted by: SunnyDay | December 19, 2007 at 09:05 PM
I don't think that MoDo is actually helping the Cackles and Cankles Tour™ very much with this piece. Are we supposed to focus on the inner warthog?

I don't know why, most men prefer skeletons with a bit of woman on them.
Don't fancy Nancy with those eyes still wide open in the middle of the night.Must be unnerving to have a hairline that moves every time you blink.

Apparently I can't post if I include a link. Hot Air has a ridiculous Christmas video made by Hill--she's giving out presents to us--like heath care--that we have to pay for. She really thinks we're morons. Hot Air has it.

Oh my goodness that made me laugh. If you have enough gravitas, or charisma or grace, looks really don't matter, even if you are a female.
Posted by: Jane | December 19, 2007 at 09:45 PM
You can't have gravitas, charisma or grace if youve no clue as to who you are--and she doesn't. She is all externals.
Posted by: clarice | December 19, 2007 at 09:56 PM
I wonder how MoDo would handle it if the press Bill regularly gets- that he has sexual charisma and his gift is the power of seduction- was given to Hillary?
Does that count as inner or outer shell stuff?
Posted by: MayBee | December 19, 2007 at 10:35 PM
clarice;
I saw the Christmas video and I agree it was really a socialist ploy to get us to pay for more social programs or tax us to death.I don't need or want any Christmas presents from Hillary. Oh and I did pay for both of my children's pre-K programs.

MEDIA FIREWORKS: MCCAIN PLEADS WITH NY TIMES TO SPIKE STORY
Thu Dec 20 2007 10:56:57 ET
Just weeks away from a possible surprise victory in the primaries, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz has been waging a ferocious behind the scenes battle with the NEW YORK TIMES, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, and has hired DC power lawyer Bob Bennett to mount a bold defense against charges of giving special treatment to a lobbyist!
McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
The paper's Jim Rutenberg has been leading the investigation and is described as beyond frustrated with McCain's aggressive and angry efforts to stop any and all publication.
MORE
The drama involves a woman lobbyist who may have helped to write key telecom legislation.
The woman in question has retained counsel and strongly denies receiving any special treatment from McCain.
Rutenberg, along with reporter David Kirkpatrick, has been developing the story for the last 6 weeks.
Rutenberg had hoped to break the story before the Christmas holiday, sources reveal, but editor Keller expressed serious reservations about jounalism ethics and issuing a damaging story so close to an election.
McCain campaign officials Rick Davis, Charlie Black and Mark Salter are also said to have met with the NEW YORK TIMES in an effort to halt publication.
