Neo

We have finally come full cirlce as the Democrats now want "Oil for Blood".

Anon

"A year ago, the president said we couldn't withdraw because there was too much violence," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). "Now he says we can't afford to withdraw because violence is down."

If you have to dumb it down so that Ted can get it...you could be screwed.

Let's turn this around on Ted.

Isn't Ted a Democrat-a member of the party that is trying to tell me the surge isn't working?

If the violence is down....

Oh nevermind-this is like mud wrestling a sweaty pig.

Neo

Anon: Petraeus should have thanked Ted for recognizing that violence was down.

clarice

Don't blame Ted..he gets his logic training by reading all those NYT pieces which read prison population grew even though crime down .

On the ABC radio soundbite this morning, the takeaway was that the senators bloviated wildly, but "no one laid a glove on Petreaus."

Given that they are one of the more reliable conduits of MSM propaganda, I took that as being as close to complete surrender as you'll ever see.

We actually had an adjournment of class yesterday to watch Gen Petraeus. Some thoughts on that whole thing:

1. You could visibly read the disdain on Gen Petraeus' face when he was being questioned by Kennedy.

2. After the first ten minutes it became obvious to anyone watching that Congress critters are not chosen by their intelligence or grace.

3. Both installments were specifically designed to generate more heat than light. We could have gotten away with one joint thirty-minute session if not for the posturing and bloviating.

4. You have not truly watched a Congressional hearing until you have watched one sitting by two Marine aviator majors. And here all this time I thought I was the only one who screamed at the television, and that I was proficient at it.

Man to be a fly on the wall at that one.

Any close to quotes that are repeatable in polite company?

GMax

Yes but did the screen survive the flak?

The was a female present, so it was mostly PG. It was amusing watching them both search for a new vocabulary.

Obamessiah's statements WRT Iran yesterday drew a fair amount of "WTF?" this morning.

BTW, I did a brief and informal survey of the building I'm working in. Of the dozen or so televisions I could find, all but one were tuned to FoxNews. I'm in a pretty officer-heavy facility, but I think that might be an indicator, come fall.

Rick Ballard

Wasn't today the Million Mookyman March?

Talisman Gate provides a nice evisceration of NYT and WaPo "in depth (way over their heads) reporting" on the omnipotent Mighty Mooky.

Maybe Rockefeller or Obama could give ole Mook a call and try and buck him up a bit? Promise that they will only surrender to him in person or something.

I watched the committee meetings yesterday as well, although I didn't have the quality company. However being a former Marine I do have a mental image of the picture you painted.

They were pretty much what I expected, the dems again moved the goalposts. Its the only strategy they can employ as they have no real interests other than short term partisan goals.

I did laugh myself out of my chair when Barbara (box of rocks) Boxer was speaking. During her ridiculous diatribe she started to read some lefty freak journalist screed about how Iran and Sadr had been the big winner in Basra. She introduced the article and stated the authors name (A woman whose name I can't remember) then stated that this author was a "expert on the Middle East".

I mean she is in a hearing with two of the best and brightest "middle east experts" and she introduces some meidiot as some kind of authority. Talk about a dim bulb, anyway I did get a hearty laugh out of that one.

Talk about your willing suspension of disbelief. Maybe we could have IQ tests for Congresspersons?

BOATBUILDER

Levin: ". . .pausing troop reductions would signal to the Iraquis that the United States is commited to the war indefinitely."

And pulling out while the battle is still on would signal to Al Queda, Sadr, Iran and the rest (not to mention our Iraqui Allies) . . .?

Think about it for a while, Carl.

BOATBUILDER

Um. Iraqis. or Iriquois. I can never keep them straight.

vnjagvet

Today was even worse with Congresscritters racing to see how many rhetorical questions they could get in their five minutes.

Invariably just enough to prevent either witness form speaking.

Pofarmer

McCaskill made some statement today that the Iraqi's will never take responsiblity for their own affairs till the U.S. pulls out, or some such. No matter how much this isn't like Vietnam, the Dims are trying their best to make it.

M. Simon

The Marines are a branch of the Navy.

Who do you think taught them to talk?

Ducks.

Semper Fi. Get some!!

M. Simon

pofarmer,

Why isn't this like Vietnam?

Think Internet. Which believe it or not I actually had a minuscule part in inventing.

The I/O board that went into the worlds first BBS was designed and produced by lil ole me.

Looks like Iran read the Vietnam book, The Basra situation looks like a Iranian planned "Tet" which hasn't worked as planned. Very good article by Amir Taheri this morning provides a much clearer picture of the dynamics involved and speaks good of Maliki's ability to ward off serious trouble.

IRAN'S BUSTED IRAQ BID - BASRA 'RISING' WAS TEHRAN'S OP

Excellent link, royf. First round indeed. This also illustrates why some regional powers, specifically Turkey and Saudi Arabia, perhaps even Egypt are not eager for us to leave Iraq. The opportunists in the Middle East right now are the Persians, and they'd like to extend their power to the Mediterranean. Maliki did an Alexander like charge to the center of the Iranian strength.

What else is new?
