If the "Bittergate" tag sticks, Obama at least gets a break on the framing skirmish - "ClingGate" would cut to the heart of the problem.
Of course, "ClingGate" has the burden of being dreadful. Any other naming ideas that people have liked?
GunsandGodsGate is goofily alliterative. No gays?
IN SAN FRANCISCO APRES DEBATE: One embittered Obama supporter to another - "Obama is croutons, I tell you, croutons."
Might have been on the Upper West Side.
BRILLIANT: Love the dueling debate bloggers.
I've been using Crackerquiddick. I heard it a couple of days ago, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

The NAB or whatever convention with the TV newers group had reported a great line over at TV Newers yesterday regarding middle America, also known as fly over country:
"... the bible belt, the borscht belt, and the bitter belt."

oops Newsers not newers.

I am perplexed by the -gate and -quiddak suffixes. What Obama did not involve (i) massive civil rights violations in connection with abuses of power or (ii) dui leading to manslaughter. While "Crackerquiddak is funny, it does rather trivialize what Teddy did initially, doesn't it?
I think a casual reference to Obama's BitterCling Remarks might work...
Posted by: Appalled | April 17, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Ed, I think See-Dubya may have come up with Crackerquiddick. I first saw it when one of your Hot Air commenters referenced it here.

Get over yourself yet again, Appalled--you're way, way behind the curve. Should we construct for you a list of events that have been tagged with the "gate" suffix and which had nothing whatsoever to do with "massive civil rights violations" blah blah blah?
SmalltownGate...

I'm quite appalled that a good moderate like Appalled would be so immoderate as to allege that what happened at Chappaquiddick was "manslaughter," an offense for which Teddy was neither convicted nor even charged.
Posted by: Danube of Thought | April 17, 2008 at 01:54 PM
Lets give Appalled the credit that he dropped the Moderate handle recently. I have been as tough as anyone on him about that, thinking it a true false flag. Awhile back he kept claiming he was, but he now allows only that he does not think of himself as a "liberal" which is certainly fine. I wish all our lefties were as honest, even if it did take him awhile to get there, we should applaud the epiphany.

DOT:
Just because the media has gone all the way down that slippery slope does not mean I have to join them. In any event, this would be the first time the -gate suffix would be applied for excess candor.
As for your latter comment...phooey. Teddy deserved to really pay back in '69, and didn't. That's not exactly news.

I'm busy writing "Yes we have no arugula"
Let my assistant PUK handle this or Soylent or Hit. I can't do EVERYTHING AROUND THIS PLACE.

By all means, Appalled, we would not expect you to join the morally inferior media in their flagrant abuse of the "gate" suffix, but it's hard to imagine why you would be "perplexed" at this late date. I think this may be the key to all things Obama:
Narcissistic Personality Disorder:
A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy.
So, Narcisgate!

When liberals want to belittle the working class they always call them rednecks. Why change the name now? :)

I don't think you get to count pre-1972 fictional events.
Jane -- If you have any awareness of 1930s-1940s slang, you're aware that that was a darned good pun.

From the AP no less:
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans are no longer underdogs in the race for the White House. To pull that off, John McCain has attracted disgruntled GOP voters, independents and even some moderate Democrats who shunned his party last fall.
Partly thanks to an increasingly likable image, the Republican presidential candidate has pulled even with the two Democrats still brawling for their party's nomination, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo! News poll released Thursday. Just five months ago — before either party had winnowed its field — the survey showed people preferred sending an unnamed Democrat over a Republican to the White House by 13 percentage points.
Also helping the Arizona senator close the gap: Peoples' opinions of Hillary Rodham Clinton have soured slightly, while their views of Barack Obama have improved though less impressively than McCain's.
The survey suggests that those switching to McCain are largely attuned to his personal qualities and McCain may be benefiting as the two Democrats snipe at each other during their prolonged nomination fight."
