Mighty big of ya Tom, your a good man. Most of us fans didn't want to see the Santana trade, and now Minnesota gets to stew along with Hank about what might have been. It was perfectly fitting that another "chip", Ellsbury, figured in the evenings festivities. What a catch in CF that was (but to be fair, Coco would have made it as well). What happens in 2019, Joba finally gets in the rotation?
OK, Sox fans, maybe you can answer a Sox trivia question that has been bugging me. Who caught the ball that clinched the 1967 pennant for the Sox? It wasn't Rico; his catch of the popup in the 5-3 victory over the Twins clinched a tie. I believe it was the person playing first base for the Angels at the end of the game with the Tigers. I believe the Tigers' last out was a groundout, with the Angels' first baseman getting the putout, thus ending the chance of the Tigers to force a one game playoff with the Sox for the pennant. I believe Don Mincher was the regular first baseman for the Angels that year, but haven't been able to confirm that he was playing that day. Any thoughts?
"Admirals' sons," Gillespie said, unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the 1st Congressional District held by Republican Rep. Jack Kingston, "were treated like royalty. They were privileged people. They were given a silver spoon. Their careers were prepared for them."
Hi Thomas Collins - you are correct, Sir. Mincher started at 1B in both games of a Sunday doubleheader in Detroit to close out the '67 season. McLain didn't make it out of the 3rd in Game 2 which the Tigers lost 8-5.

I remember the trepidation of having Lester pitch the last game of the world series. We wanted him to, but was he up to the task?
He was.
What a complete inspiration this kid is to everyone!

Mornin', Jane. Sure is, even out here on the Coast, where you will note that it is not yet 0600.
I'm waiting maliciously for the lout Steinbrenner to erupt.

Morning DoT - what are you doing up? Waiting for Oregon?
Posted by: Jane | May 20, 2008 at 09:31 AM
I'm up because I'm old. It's as simple as that. But I'll be at the gym in two hours.
Guess you folks will all have turned in before the Oregon results hit the airwaves, right?

Ouch. By 2019 I figure Mariano Jr. or one of his other kids will have grown up and reached the bigs...

DoT,
It's Amy's birthday. I just got back from a two martini lunch. I can't possibly deal with Arlen Spector now. I'll read it later.
