Thanks for that link. So that analyst does consider NC 'up for grabs.' I have my doubts--Bush beat both Kerry and Gore 56-44. But still the thrust of the analysis is that Hillary is much stronger in the states that matter for the general election. For me, Barack vs. Hillary is a case of a much smaller chance of a somewhat worse outcome.

Sorta. It's really notable today as being on the verge of bankruptcy (actually, it is bankrupt) due to "progressive policies". I question whether AZ is drifting blue - the recent moves by the legislature there to cut back on illegals may put a screeching halt to that.

There is also a very real question as to whether Hispanics of Mexican descent will be anywhere near as reliable as blacks. I'll grant that they are in SoCal but SoCal is a real magnet for immigrant deadbeats of every stripe. NM has had the critical mass for years and the Heather Wilson contest will be very interesting as a measure of the Dems Latino strategy. The CO Senate contest looks like it will be Schaffer v Udall, I'm not sure that will give any real indication as to the weight of the Latino vote.

It does not have to be as reliable. Even if Dems get the full Hispanic vote 70/30, the GOP is finished.

Note how there is NO Republican Hispanic politician of note in California. Not one. That tells you the future of the state.

Conversely, if the GOP even got the black vote to be 25/75, rather than the current 10/90, Dems are finished. The GOP only needs to get 25% of the black vote to win MI, OH, PA, WI, and make MD and IL competitive, which would finish the Dems.

The reality is more complicated than that. The Chicago machine is a different machine than it was under Daley's father. Anyone who thinks that Obama was a machine tool just hasn't looked at the facts, but then a lot of people don't do that. The Republicans have always been strong among that group.

Oh, I'm sure some of that will happen. My 83-year-old ma in the nursing home says that the Democrats there who support Hillary aren't switching to McCain, but that's just one data point.

I think the schisms in the Republican Party are no less intense than those in the Democratic Party. One size will not fit all. The way thing are looking today, it's shaping up to be Obama 52%, McBush 44%, Barr 3% and assorted nutcases 1%.

I figure McCain's going to try some bold move, like a wingnut Hipsanic woman from Florida or something like that. I'm sort of hoping he'll pick Romney, though. It would get him a boatload of Mormon money, but I bet it would deliver Texas and the Carolinas and Virginia to Obama.

Or maybe he'll pick Huckleberry Hound. That would probably keep Jesusland/Dumbfuckistan, but it would lose him Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, and New Hampshire.

Obama's going to pick either Richardson, the Hispanic, or a Clinton loyalist like Wesley Clark, or maybe the Democratic governor of Virginia. That'll sew up the Great Lakes, at the very least.

This isn't going to be any sort of 50-state deal. McBush is going to win a bunch of states. But he's going to lose the election, and the Republicans are going be utterly crushed in the congressional races.

Don't worry, Topsecret dog, Obama has kissed the rings at AIPAC. Besides, if I were you guys I'm not sure I'd be going at him too hard on that issue. Here's why:

The people who care about this are Jews, who are 1.5% of the population, and evangelical rapture believers, another 10% or so. Most Jews are liberals who aren't real pleased with the wingnuts of Israel, to put it mildly. Obama has convinced them that he supports Israel the way they do.

The wingnut Jews and the christian zionists would never vote for Obama under any circumstances. There is absolutely nothing he can say that will satisfy them. However, if they come after him too hard for being insufficiently pro-Israel, there's a whole bunch of other Americans who aren't really on board with Israel-as-51st-state but whose views never get reported.

A fair number of those people are in the Republican Party. Now, will they vote for Obama? Not likely, but if McBush's crowd makes too much of an issue of it then Bob Barr's 3% just might start growing into 5% or more. Better be careful, nutcases!

Israel has nuclear weapons. Iran's not going to do them serious harm, because Israel will turn them into a glowing pit and everyone knows it. Oh, and if someone's going to nuke Israel (say, a terrorist group), there's nothing anyone can do about it in the long run anyway. If Israel wants to survive, it will make peace with its neighbors. Period. It has nothing to do with whether a Republican or a Democrat is in office.

Now, as for Iranian nuclear weapons, that's not about Israel. It is about deeper rivalries that make Arab vs. Jew look like nothing. It is about Persian vs. Arab, which does back thousands of years, and about Sunni vs. Shia, which goes back about 1,300 or so years.

Pakistan is a nuclear power. Its government is Sunni. So is the Taliban. Iran is the Shia citadel and the Persian citadel. If they get nukes, they won't be threatening Israel, 'cause they'll be destroyed. They'll be threatening Saudi Arabia, and they'll be threatening the Taliban, and they'll be threatening Egypt.

Israel is a flyspeck, and an afterthought in this whole game. They have 5.5 million Jews in the midst of several hundred million Arabs and Persians who are internally divided and who have age-old fault lines. The Jews serve as a good scapegoat (as they always have) but the main conflicts are other ones.

The real reason Israel has any traction in American politics is because you've got a lot of Jewish political money, and in the past 25 years there's a big chunk of the bible-thumping nutjobs who've fallen for the 19th century rapture heresy. The Republicans thought they could exploit it, and now they've found out that the tail's wagging' the dog.

God help all of them if we ever get serious about solar energy.

Focus on reprise. Well, what happens is that everything looks like a TV screen and the waves get everything all blurry. The people there are doing I was' to use you when your dead or save you from the evil other raisers, depending how stupid you think your ophthalmologist is.

So, it wasn't because of the stroke, the second one that never did, but, after seeing the doctor and getting the MRI; the neurologist explains that it's really a migraine, but no pain. It is so 'painful' that you lose eye focus and it really is like a TV, like you know, a tv using your eyes and having everyone watch. The pain free migraine really is because of the painers who tortured, but, having a modified pain center in the brain really is what is wanted, but who would have thought it was only the brain? Darn.

California quakes all got solved and it's the Alaska ones that happen every 10 years or so.
