The Pads also won their immediately preceding game (final of the series vs. Cubs) by a score of 2-1. They are now the only club in MLB history to win four straight games 2-1; it didn't even happen in the dead ball era.

In this area, we take our sports successes as we find them.

Ashamed Mets Fan

The Mets aren't confused....they know they stink

Larry

DoT, Maddux was superb in the win over the Cubs harking back to his younger days....dagnabbit!

SteveMG

Tough to score runs in Petco.

Plus Wright is going through one of his period power outrages and Beltran isn't picking him up. And Church has come down to earth (so to speak).

SteveMG

outrages

Outages dummy, not outrages.

Try to be pithy and wind up looking like a moron.

David

I take it our blog leader is a Mets fan like me.

SteveMG, don't worry about it, you may look like a moron, but at least you're our moron.

SteveMG

you may look like a moron, but at least you're our moron.

I think I'd rather be a free agent.

I'm left-handed; somebody will make me an offer.

Maddux was indeed superb, and yet again it availed him nothing. If he had been traded to any other club he would have passed Clemens by now, but I fear he may not make it even by the end of the season.

And it's not tough for everyone to score in Petco--Pads, yes; Mets, yes; but other visitors seem to have no problem.

Thomas Collins

How are Agee and Swoboda doing for the Mets? Whoops, another "good old days" brain malfunction from an aging Boomer!

kim

Never will there be one as Marvelous as Marv.

Pads complete four-game sweep of Mets for the first time since 1980. My hunch is that Willie Randolph better get his resume out on the street.

Since this is a French themed thread, can I mention that the people who think Jerry Lewis is a genius have made mentioning wine on the internet illegal.

Nor does either team get a favorable mention in Stuff White People Like at the ballpark:

The drinks were excellent, too: a split of Laurent-Perrier Champagne for my girlfriend; a tall, ice-cold glass of hoppy Anchor Steam Beer for me.

And the view at our walk-up, alfresco table was impossible to beat: palm trees swayed, sailboat masts bobbed and, in the distance, the Bay Bridge stretched out across foggy San Francisco Bay.

Not to mention: In the Sunday NY Times Travel Section. Sushi, expensive sandwiches, alder smoked salmon. Baseball in retro stadiums (architecture). Diversity (Japanese centerfielder). Literary criticism (Ichiroll; too punny).

Hi patrick

I feel you linked what stuff white people liked at the ballpark..
And because i've read your postings for like 2 years i know you were just teasing a link that parodies all the racial stuff with the dems these days..
And i totally agree patrick..
But here is the hoopsters 2 cents.. ( ahh hah.. TM puts a sports link on JOM and I'm not posting? Good luck with that!)
My opinion is not to put racial stuff in your posting.. There was not one time in the 3 page web story from the Times that had the word 'white' in it..not once..I didn't check whitey, cracker or any other word that alluded to white.. but i did read the story...And i feel you misrepresented the tone and content of the story..
And i know you were just teasing and i really respect your viewpoints..
I played ball in the bay area in college and have never ever ever felt racial overtones in our sports..
EVER!!We were brothers in arms..great friends to this day..
You're a good guy patrick and the wounds of past racial disconnect has been exposed and ripped open this season..
It breaks my heart..I was raised in a different environ..I'm going to stop now..
It's a sad year with the racial stuff..

boris

not to put racial stuff

If that's cringeworthy for you you're in for a long campaign season. The non-left is going to be taking a lot of fire no matter what so lighten up already.

HoosierHoops

Boris: I stand by my post..let's move above race..
Let ideas stand on thier own..And you can't take 4 words i posted out of context and reply to that..Give me a break..4 words?
But whatever..those are the hoopsters feelings about race..it should be a non-issue today...

boris

it should be a non-issue ...

Put it on the list how things should be.

The rain should never fall till after sundown.

By noon the morining fog should disappear.

In short there's simply not a less convenient spot for happy ever aftering than here on planet earth.

It obviously is a big issue for the Dems and thy're going to play it positive and negative. There's talk on the street it sounds so familiar. Wary expectations, everybody's watching you. People you meet, they all seem to wisper. Even your old friends treat you like you're sime kind of hick.

HoosierHoops

hi boris..
at least you quoted me 6 words this time..
and you quoted an eagles song to back you up..
very impressive..
I understand the point you are making, and i can't really disagree.. I was just saying.. :)
kind regards,

kim

HH, this is precisely my objection to Obama. Much of the country is way beyond the sort of racism that Obama talks about. And the Dems are going to play the race card like they have a whole deck full of them.

HoosierHoops, we need to keep up with our JOM--another SWPL--themes.

Jay Leno is the frontrunner for Best Joke of the Year, 2008 edition. Paraphrasing from a couple nights ago:

"The Hillary Clinton campaign spent an incredible $210 million before conceding the other day. Can you think of another organization that spends $210 million to come in 2nd? Oh, right -- the New York Yankees."
