Obama finally resigns from Trinity Church.
Check Karl at Team Protein.
Here is Trinity as described in Obama's race speech:
That has been my experience at Trinity. Like other predominantly black churches across the country, Trinity embodies the black community in its entirety - the doctor and the welfare mom, the model student and the former gang-banger. Like other black churches, Trinity's services are full of raucous laughter and sometimes bawdy humor. They are full of dancing, clapping, screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear. The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and yes, the bitterness and bias that make up the black experience in America.
I continue to doubt his church is (now, was) all that typical.
So, when does the racial reconciliation begin - Obama promises to sprinkle his pixie dust and bring this nation together while taking his kids to a church where they are taught to hate whitey. And the two angriest, most unreconciled people we have met in this campaign are Obama's wife and minister. Maybe he could spare some pixie dust for them.
Just show me some more Pfleger. All Pfleger, all the time, from now until November.
Wahoo!

It's Scary Larry so I'll believe it when I see it. He's been pushing "the tape" idea for a while, and with the exception of his congregation, it'll be tough to sell as a "GOP dirty trick".

It is indeed ironic that sexism and racism, two whips whose stings are sharpest, are now turned, self-flagellatory, on those most powerfully wielding them. This is full blown classic tragedy, and I begin to see why it can't be stopped. It is tarentella.

It is "Black Liberation Theology" that binds all these people together. Leave the church, so what! Pretend that as you sat in a church for 20 years and you didn't believe in the theology. Is the Pope catholic?
Posted by: Kathie | June 01, 2008 at 10:14 AM
For a good time, go over to Crazy Larry's place and read through the comments. There's some major Obama-hating going on over there, and much love for the Odious Slattern. And it appears that the GOP is manipulating everything--I suspect Rove.
And I blame Bush.

If the GOP had a "hate whitey" tape with Michelle, they would not release it now. They do not want anything to hurt the chances of Obama being the Dem nominee. October release maybe, June release never. The only ones who would release a tape like this now is someone who wants to help Hillary.
Posted by: Derwood | June 01, 2008 at 10:31 AM
I'm with Tom Maguire; I find these lines very troubling:
"Like other black churches, Trinity's services are full of raucous laughter and sometimes bawdy humor. They are full of dancing, clapping, screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear."
I attend a large non-denominatial church in SE Ohio (sorry, no nuttiness). For several years, the church has invited a local black pastor, his choir, and his congregation to the church for a summer mid-week service. The pastor has been great; the choir, outstanding; the service, one of the best each year.
With that as my reference point, I've never seen the level of hatred and resentment that I see at Obama's church. I guess I didn't realize that those blacks showing up at my church actually hated my white a**. And I suppose they had no problems accepting the substantial collection that the church gathered that night and then turned over to the visiting pastor and his church.
In truth, I think that pastor and his congregants were wonderful people and very grateful for my church's surprise donation, and I think Obama's church is a complete aberration.
Posted by: SAM | June 01, 2008 at 10:34 AM
Should we be surprised that a young man with high political ambitions who joined a church because it fed those ambitions quit it when it frustrated them?
The Pfleger sermon was just sad. The homilist's duty is to reveal God to humanity. There was nothing in either the manner or the content of the sermon in question (at least the excerpts I've seen) that reflected the offer of grace, love, and peace that is at the core of the Gospel.
Posted by: jm | June 01, 2008 at 10:38 AM
Has anyone commented on Obama's misappropriate overuse of the word "fierce"? Would he recognize fierce intelligence if it hit him upside the head with a 2x4?

"He's got a moral bind; either he's horrifyingly evil, or he is suffering a huge spiritual loss, right now."
Nah. He's horrifyingly banal. Cheap hucksters suffer when the sherrif deputy flips over the suitcase that they've been using for their shell game - they get over it after a weekened in jail though. Then it's back to the hustle.
This clown has never turned an honest dollar and never will. I still say he's running for the Jesse Jackson/Al Shaprton "black spokesman" post - and all the pelf that goes with it. I do believe that he possesses the requisite level of amorality and greed to be considered their equal.
We should pause for a moment of gratitude that Broom One has been grounded. Perhaps we really will be spared that combination of those same qualities, amorality and greed, raised to the 10th power.

I don't think the binary "he's evil" or "he's suffering" is apt. See Powerline: Get Me from the Church on Time. He's a bullshit artist of the first order. He may be feeling a bit of panic right now but it will pass as he gets the re-assurances of his followers.

The cornerstone of that church is Black Liberation Theology, or BLT for short. With that in mind, how is Obama going to reach out to Muslims when he attends a church that eats bacon?
The press has not yet begun to explore the teachings of this church. James Cone is not known to many outside the BLT. This is how our MSM has failed the average American who gets their news in soundbites or Jon Stewart's Daily Show.
BLT: White Christian concepts taught to the black man thus are to be disregarded or ignored. Presenting heaven asa reward for following Christ is seen as an attempt to dissuade blacks from the goal of real liberation of their whole persons.
I doubt anyone outside that church and not addicted to blogs has any idea what they actually teach there.

Well well well, the rumors continue. I think Obama must be waiting for a very large Hillary-held shoe to drop, hence his morose manner in yesterday's speech.
Anyone ever hear Aaron Copland's arrangements of old American songs, sung by the great William Warfield? This one's been running through my head all morning:
The Dodger (Campaign Song)
Oh, the candidate's a dodger, yes, a well-known dodger,
Oh, the candidate's a dodger, yes, and I'm a dodger too.
He'll meet you and treat you and ask you for your vote,
But look out, boys, he's a-dodgin' for a note.
Yes we're all dodgin',
A-dodgin', dodgin', dodgin',
Yes, we're all dodgin' out the way through the world.
Oh, the preacher, he's a dodger, yes, a well-known dodger,
Oh, the preacher, he's a dodger, yes, and I'm a dodger, too.
He'll preach you the gospel and tell you of your crimes,
But look out, boys, he's a-dodgin' for your dimes.
Yes we're all dodgin',
A-dodgin', dodgin', dodgin',
Yes, we're all dodgin' out the way through the world.

Absolutely not. Red Witch cannot possibly succeed unless she can transfer the "blame" for the discovery that MO is a mouth breathing racist (big surprise) to evil Rethuglicans. Her first efforts at race baiting were farmed out to the Times of London and she's been just as careful ever since. She's as slick as she is evil and BHO would never have flanked her were she not so well hated by a rather large contingent within her own party. She's on a tight rope here and I'm crossing my fingers for strong gusts of wind.

"What they found were opportunities to win delegates, even in states they would eventually lose...Obama's campaign mastered some of the most arcane rules in politics, and then used them to foil a front-runner who seemed to have every advantage"
Yes that was a good article. Seems like Obama's campaign manager seemed to borrow a playbook from Karl Rove, because if you ever see Rove talk about the elections, he seems to have an almost enclycopedic knowledge of the political leanings of every county in the US. Probably even the towns too.

Another important point is how the dems weight their congressional districts for the number of delegates awarded.
All of the heavier weighted pro dem ones were right where the Black/Elite/Young voters in Obama's support live giving him a running start at the heavy delegate districts.

Not from the Onion, but could be:
I understand Karl Rove has been persistently whispering in BHO's ear in the middle of the night urging him to make Dick Cheney the highly unofficial and top secret chair of the Illinois Senator's VP search committee.
The Twenty Second Amendment does not apply to VP's, and Cheney has much of the considerable experience BHO lacks.

But, of course, this works out well for the 1% of our population rolling in dough and laughing at the American publics' collective ADD and penchant for shallow, jingoistic trivia.
Let's see, the economy is chugging along at a positive pace despite the mortgage crisis and high gas prices, there is nothing wrong with the greatest health care system in the world, it is health care insurance that is the problem in the eyes of many, and the failing education system is due to the ironclad grip the predominantly democratic teacher's union has on the system where merit doesn't count, our embarrassing international reputation is sought out when those international entities need our help and 100 world leaders met in Stockholm last week to hail our progress and that of the Iraqis plus those countries of the world are dumping their leftist/socialist governments and going conservative.
As to your last 1% rant, that is gobbleygook.

"BushHitlerCheneyHalliburton will no longer be around to devil her after January"
True. I wonder if TW in the Dem Racist camp or the Dem Sexist camp? Her adoption of the "Thinking" disguise makes it a bit difficul to discern her sympathies.

TOP & Kim and Sara!!!
It's me!!! Misplaced my cheat sheet for LARWYNING the thread::::laughing::::
Check you email, you'll see I pasted that in after sending out in broadcast.
Here's what I just included in "collection" sent few mins ago re WHITEY....
Hillary won all of OBAMA's groups including COLLEGE GRADS per FNC
Hope that means the Latinos in N.Mex & CA won't vote for OBAMA in general IF HE ENDS UP THE CANDIDATE IN NOV.
Wild Larwyn Extrapolations on that MICHELLE "WHITEY" VIDEO:
In the very beginning of the PR "election center" at FNC with Chris Wallace, Kristol let slip, (a paraphrase)
..." if he, in fact is the candidate after what is coming tomorrow...". No one asked him what he meant by that, no one went back to that - could mean Kristol slipped what FNC wants to BLOW OUT TOMORROW & not beging of summer Sunday afternoon.
If the NETWORK having the VIDEO per Roger Stone is FNC - you can see why OBAMA spokesman Brown called it 'REPUB DIRTY TRICKS!!"
We wait.

"I find it so shocking--almost science-fiction-esque--",I'm not keen on science-fiction-esque,a bit clumsy,is it ebonics? Kafkaesque would be more appropriate.
"I find it so shocking--almost kafkaesque that the Democrats are tooling about performing oversight on the past, instead of,if what you say is true, doing the job they are payed for.

...fraudulent, oligarchical foreign-policy decisions
I recognized Michelle posting under an alias (guess she's not in church today) as soon as I read that. The thing that makes me chuckle is that she's talking about the Iraq War, (That decision was supported by Americans by better than 3 to 1.) and our current multilateral approach to diplomacy.
