Kim,
I didn't know you spoke fluent crouton.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

Quite nice, Peter.

Now, if you don't mind, can we get back to brickbats?

PeterUK

That was addressed to Kim spelt K.I.M. I was talking to the organ grinder not the monkey.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

Now that's the Peter we all adore.

Adding this to the list of things I don't wanna understand:

---
JIBLA, Yemen — One morning last month, Arwa Abdu Muhammad Ali walked out of her husband’s house here and ran to a local hospital, where she complained that he had been beating and sexually abusing her for eight months.

That alone would be surprising in Yemen, a deeply conservative Arab society where family disputes tend to be solved privately. What made it even more unusual was that Arwa was 9 years old.

Within days, Arwa — a tiny, delicate-featured girl — had become a celebrity in Yemen, where child marriage is common but has rarely been exposed in public. She was the second child bride to come forward in less than a month; in April, a 10-year-old named Nujood Ali had gone by herself to a courthouse to demand a divorce, generating a landmark legal case.

Together, the two girls’ stories have helped spur a movement to put an end to child marriage, which is increasingly seen as a crucial part of the cycle of poverty in Yemen and other third world countries. Pulled out of school and forced to have children before their bodies are ready, many rural Yemeni women end up illiterate and with serious health problems. Their babies are often stunted, too.

PeterUK

Who's we crouton?

eightnine2718281828mu5e

We are many.

Yemen, now there's a place Obama could take hope and change.Ideal for a progressive Muslim politician.

"We are many."

PeterUK

Bill Clinton - "Obama must kiss my ass if he wants my support". Oh dear a little fraternal tiff?

PeterUK

The quote is "We are legion" dummy.

Rick Ballard

Mr Uk,

One might imagine that after Rezko, Auchi and al-Sammare, Senator Obama would welcome the change.

We are legion, for we are many

Sentence commutation seems to be the preferred mechanism in these situations.

RichatUF

The Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his intransigence.

Maybe would could see our first black president rapping, "Hey Baracko, How does my ass taste"?

/we still have 5 months of this

clarice

It would be such a treat tro see him campaigning for Brocko..and I'm sure the notion sends a little frisson up Brocko's legs.

PeterUK

Mr Ballard,
Is there an extradition treaty with Yemen? Just in case Rezko enters a witness protection scheme.
Obama would fit right in.

PeterUK

"We are legion, for we are many".
No you misquoted, put on the dunce's cap and stand in the corner.Oh sorry you live there.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

Is there an extradition treaty with Yemen?

Since we've officially breached the anatomical barrier, does McCain's head have an extradition treaty with his ass?

PeterUK

"and I'm sure the notion sends a little frisson up Brocko's legs."

No doubt, after all the are both consenting adults.

Sue

What about Barry White? Barry Bonds? Marion Barry?

What about them? From Barry O's own words, Barry didn't do it for him. At a time he was searching for his black identity.

clarice

Seriously, why would Brocko WANT Bill to campaign for him? Bill sabotaged his wife every chance he could and he'd certainly treat Brocko no better.

Rick Ballard

Rich,

The AT article to which Clarice linked needs to be connecteed in some manner to Senator Obama's willingness to direct public funds to the slumlords who first rented his services. In working through the prog fiefs I was struck by the amount of public money being spent to ensure that the serfs were properly collared through the provision of "free" services, whether rent subsidy (which never even touches the serf's pocket), subsidized medical care, subsidized transportation or subsidized food. Senator Obama's home district of IL-1 provides a very good illustration (especially with his wife having her trotters in the public trough up to her hocks) but MI-14 (Conyer's fief) would probably pay off more profitably. MI is a battleground while IL is holding up its end of the bargain with Mephistopheles to a T. That may change if Fitz bags Blag (and Daley?).

What do you think? Focus on MI-14 with tie ins to IL-1 or focus on IL-1 and Mrs' Obama's pelf taking position at the hospital? Take a look at both districts - Conyer's serfs are running like rabbits so there is a "failure to thrive" argument that is somewhat stronger if MI-14 is used.

Do you know of any statistical breakouts on abortions performed per Planned Parenthood clinic? It would be interesting to calculate the number of PP clinics in Chicago and Detroit for use in the explanation of the demographic slide of the black population.

Senator Obama's support for PP as a means to keep mothers from being punished by actually bearing babies is another angle worth pursuing wrt his "constituent servicing". Womb to not even a grave isn't quite the same as cradle to grave.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

I doubt Halliburton cost W a single vote; good luck on using byzantine ward politics as an issue.

PeterUK

Halliburton isn't looking at becoming prison bitch.A man will say a lot to avoid that.

Elliott

NY Times: Nice Spot to Eat After Golf, but Women Are Barred and John McCain has spoken there! And his son is a member!

Unmentioned but relevant political angle: Sam Nunn will not be Obama's running mate. You heard it here first.

Bunny Greenhouse was once the perfect bureaucrat, an insider, the top procurement official at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Then the 61-year-old Greenhouse lost her $137,000-a-year post after questioning the plump contracts awarded to Halliburton in the run-up to the war in Iraq. It has made her easy to love for some, easy to loathe for others, but it has not made her easy to know.

You know I'm as big a feminist as they come, and I don't care if women are not allowed in the men's grill. I'd simply make a point of having more fun somewhere else and make it their loss. Or I'd get the concession on my own grill and make it better.

"Recent reports and rumors have indicated that Senator Obama plans to aggressively move to the middle on Iraq in the coming months. This is a good political move for Obama, if only because he’s finally starting to recognize reality."

Poor 89....
First Obama falls off his white horse when its discovered his mentors and buddies are crooks (Rezko), anti-American doctrinaires (Wright et all) and terrorists (Ayers).
But heck, he is still in tune with liberal inteligentsia on issues right?
Then we find out that he is pro-death penalty, pro-gun, and now pro-surge, if you can believe the latest statements.
And he certainly believes its business as usual when it comes to campaign financing.
Move-on and 89 might not have anything to hang their small hats on by November at this rate.

Rick-

I'd keep the focus on IL-1 and the self-dealing between BHO and his wife's employer, with himself and his wife reaping a 200k windfall profit. The subsidized housing and slum-lords are another interesting issue with a tie in to the "sub-prime crisis" and an article regarding Section-8 housing that Insty linked to a few days back.

Focusing on BHO and the hospital has the added benefit of sharpening the debate about the costs of health care and demonstrating that US taxpayer funded health care today is rife with fraud, waste, and abuse that would send a private firm out of business and its officers to jail.

I'll think about this further and post a few other comments later.

Re: abortion statistics, I found this site with state data broken down by CD, but believe most of it is old. MI-14 has 5, and none of them are run by PP and IL-1 has 10 and 2 are run by PP. Another place to look is the challange to Levitt's claim that legalized abortion reduced crime [a Harvard economist parsed it out and I think he used either zip-code level data or CD level data on crime and abortions?]

Politics is the art of the possible; compromise and tension are at the core of our system.

If you govern with an eye toward pleasing the ideologues, you wind up right where W is with an approval rating in the 20's.

PeterUK

"Don't worry, it will be good for you."

Nothing socialists do are good for you, especially those things initiated by snot nosed, callow politicians who have never had a proper day job. Obama might schmooze his way to the nomination, but sure as hell he can't schmooze his way through reality.

Not really; the Dems want my money and the Republicans want my freedoms, so libertarianism is a losing proposition.

Exactly what freedoms have the Republicans taken from you? Then you can tell me Obama will give them back.

In general, Republicans like to regulate sex, drugs, rock'n'roll, and apparently now we can add voting suppression to the list.

The Republicans are also getting damn close to the point of committing enough troops to justify a draft; one more theater of operation and we'll be all in.

The spying stuff; eh, that's gone on forever. It's just easier now with software and networks.

 ann

I can see why you couldn't get a date tonite.

Darn, Jane, you left to soon. Now that there is funny!

RichatUF

Rick-

I'm brainstorming some ideas:

government pork [Dems "culture of corruption"?, generalized discussion of pro-growth, self-reliance, and freedom as the basis for economic policies compared to the anti-growth, government provided/subsidized, and less free economic policy that BHO supports]

corruption [Jefferson, generalized discussion, Rezko?]

income redistribution [poll results]

higher taxation [BHO's campaign platform]

government subsidies [BHO's spending plans]

subsidized housing and health care

subsidized housing eg: Rezmar, Section-8 housing article, Boston Globe's BHO housing article

subsidized health care eg: Obama’s earmark to his wife’s employer, [google Medicade fraud?]

What I've got so far.

PeterUK

"The Republicans are also getting damn close to the point of committing enough troops to justify a draft; one more theater of operation and we'll be all in."

That Deranged Digit, is one of your best non sequiturs.
Don't worry Tinkerbell,they won't want you,it's a professional army.
Remember it is the Democrats who want a draft, they seem to think that surrendering with a bigger army is more impressive.

PeterUK

Ann,
Yes I saw it,they removed it in Europe,Actually those are just lowly MEPs,of the kind voted in by the electorates, simply voting fodder to give the operation a veneer of legitimacy. If fact the European Council,Commission and the bureaucracy have all the power. We now live in a post democratic society, the EU being a totally new form of anti-democratic government.
Do watch it for the brief time it exists.

Back to the passport application business. If, a big if, it was an attempt by his campaign to figure out where he was born, why try to do it illicitly? Surely Obama can request those records, too? Well, maybe he didn't want to telegraph any concern, particularly since he didn't know what was in the files. Furthermore, if they had looked, illicitly, and found the answer they wanted, why not show it? Why promote the phony?

Does anyone know if family passports from those days required the same documentation for the child as for the adult? I know that at some time a single passport could pass a whole family. I know of a family who traveled that way, and one child wasn't a certified citizen yet because she had been born on a German ship in Irish waters of American parents, and had the choice, at age 21, of citizenships.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

fwiw, here's the wiki entry:

---
Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Obama, Sr., of Nyangoma-Kogelo, Siaya District, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a White American from Wichita, Kansas. His parents met while both were attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.[3] They separated when he was two years old and later divorced.[4] Obama's father returned to Kenya and saw his American-born son only once more before dying in an automobile accident in 1982.[5] After her divorce, Dunham married Lolo Soetoro, and the family moved to Soetoro's home country of Indonesia in 1967, where Obama attended local schools in Jakarta until he was ten years old. He then returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending Punahou School from the fifth grade in 1971 until his graduation from high school in 1979.[6] Obama's mother died of ovarian cancer in 1995.[7]

clarice, at your link about the birth certificate, there is also a fascinating article about a Druse soldier, dead at Sarkozy's departure from Israel. The truth of that one is not out, either.

eightnine2718281828mu5e

If they were both attending college in hawaii, it's pretty unlikely they would have left the country for her to give birth.

Not impossible of course, but it seems like a stretch.

kim

Stanley Ann would have been more accurately described as from Mercer Island, WA. Where was she born, presumably Wichita.

Also, were his parents married, and were they divorced?

I also remind you, in his famous race speech, Obama talked about one of his grandparents working in a bomber factory in Leavenworth. Wrong. I'm almost positive it was Wichita.

This guy makes it up as he goes along. The Flim Flam Man. Maybe his mother did the same. And he may just now be finding it out.

"Do you have a source for Senator Obama being born at Kapiolani Medical Center? "

I got it from an article in the Honolulu Star, but there are lots of other places: http://starbulletin.com/2008/02/18/news/story03.html "He was born in Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, two blocks up from where our grandmother still resides ... the place where he used to stick orange peels under his bed, where it got all dried out and ... nasty."

http://www.nndb.com/people/208/000055043/

Another source is his books. He mother was living with his grandmother at the time of his birth. She is still alive and a good enough witness to when and where he was born to satisfy any court in the country. The courthouse that held my father's birth certificate burned, all it took was a relative to re-establish his records.

Too many people are over thinking this story. Which really isn't a story. I just Googled "obama citizenship" in "Google News" and only find two stories on this that aren't in blogs/forums etc.
