No, Porch - $95 is their combined cash on hand for June.

Sorry for the confusion.

Barney Frank

3,3,3,3,3,What do you think yesterday's FISA vote was about? Pay off for not doing enough to get her debts paid off ..

Heh. Clarice that is precisely what prompted me to ponder my question.
I thought she played him for a sucker like a violin if no one minds me hopelssly mangling two metaphors in one sentence.

Barney Frank

Obama wants us to feel his.

Ummm, no thanks. I'm afraid he's gonna have to do it the old fashioned way and procure an intern.

Porchlight

Thanks centralcal, I should have read the Drudge link! Still, good news. Looking forward to seeing Obama's June numbers.

bad

Ummm, no thanks. I'm afraid he's gonna have to do it the old fashioned way and procure an intern.

LOL Or leave it up to Jesse Jackson

 Ann, Former Southern Belle

Definitely, number 3. McAwful was suggesting Biden as his running mate, yesterday. Oh, thats a good idea...a liar and a plagiarizer on the same ticket.

MARK STEYN IS SUBBING FOR RUSH TOMORROW. LETS BLOG!

PeterUK

"Besides, even if she has to wait eight years, she still would be viable candidate. Just think. Hillary as the 68 year old matriarch running for the Presidency."

Lucretia has enough of the original sin in her to want the eight years now. What is happening is reminiscent of to mediaeval sappers.Dig a tunnel beneath the fortifications, shore it up with timbers then at the appropriate moment set them on fire.

 Ann

Meant to get rid of the southern belle thingy. oops

Hey, you guys, I don't want to backtrack. Was that book Clarence Thomas or Tomas Sowell?

Porchlight

It was the Clarence Thomas book, Ann.

Neo

It started with...

Lara Logan looks great on television as a CBS reporter and delivers some good work from Iraq but a report from the National Enquirer sends "Laura" in the opposite direction and claims that the CBS news reporter is involved in a sex scandal. The report also tosses in CNN's Michael Ware and the Huffington Post has the screaming headline "Lara Logan, Michael Ware Involved In Steamy Baghdad Love Triangle"
...now we have ...
Lara Logan, the chief foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News, tells The Washington Post she is pregnant, and the father is a married federal contractor whom she met while stationed in Iraq.

At least we know that she believes in making love not Ware

 Ann

Thanks Porchlight

Rick Ballard

Barney,

$20 on the nose for #3. RW will look like Dorian Gray's picture in the attic in eight years (IOW - her outer aspect will match her inner aspect). I think Broom One is still in the hangar, waiting out the possibility that something will end BHO's campaign prior to the convention.

ION - NYT stock hit a new low today with one analyst pegging a target for the stock in the $8-$11 range. That seems a bit optimistic to me.

kim

Lara Logan for Meet the Press.
==================

kim

Welll, Rick, it looks like Joe's Op-Ed started the slide. See the break point there, even on the log scale?

But really, that's also the point the NYT became actively anti-war.
==================================

RichatUF

Classy story out of CBS news Neo. Also to go OT a bit, but I thought it was a joke, but Kuchinich (D-Mother Ship) really is going to be allowed to introduce his impeachment article. I suppose anything to get the nation's attention off high oil prices (and Pelosi's refusal to allow exploriation), the Dems FISA cave, and the odd Iranian missile test yesterday.

glenda waggoner

Oh, Neo-you crack me up!
I hope Pelosi gives Dennis UFO Kucinich a platform-that will prove BDS is behind every move they make. When will someone ask Lady P why she supports Chavez more than Uribe? Why won't McCain shout out since the dems took majority, gas is up,witchhunts in Congress @fairy tales are up, but they preach change. Let's give them change and vote them out, people. The executive Branch has gotten Patriot,Fisa extended and a few deadbeat bureaucrats at state and intelligence static. Now, if we could just get that 4th branch(liberal MSM) to shut up,
we could all take a vacation @Holiday Inn Express!

Barney Frank

$20 on the nose for #3. RW will look like Dorian Gray's picture in the attic in eight years

Rick,
Shouldn't that be $20 on the hairy wart?

Neo

Interesting

bgates

Oh please oh please let Congress impeach Bush, less than six months from the end of their term and his. I'd love to hear Pelosi et al under oath explain and document how they were lied to.

Rick - I don't get what's so bold about Lehman calling for NYT to drop 50%. The stock has done that twice in the past five years.

RichatUF

Rick-

I got a bit inspired with your Obama Bear Market Report and was kicking around some ideas to write up for AT. I wanted to sketch out the ideas: [1]Iranian-Russian firm-state bullying both in the national security case and in a price hawk/price dove case in OPEC/KSA/Russia) [2] the Active Measures Malaise with the steady stream of article that the end-of-the-world/recession/depression is around the corner (that AP article on the 4th would be a good example) and [3] something I'd call the Petrodollar Crisis which would be about the dollar, the euro, global inflation, and global budget deficits (your observation about oil being bought in dollars and not in PPP) and some plausible reasons for the sharp decline of the dollar (one of them being the resources available to the Office of Foreign Asset Control and the security implications of Sar-Box, FISA, and SWIFT; another would be the "de-coupling thesis").

Anyway was brainstorming a bit and wanted to get your take.

glenda waggoner

Great link, Neo-It's amazing how "facts" and reason-not denying-raze"Inconvenient Truths"

Jane

A representative of PUMA was just on Fox. He says that Obama can go to hell, and they have raised between 6 and 10 million buck for Hillary in one week.

He says that the democrats are trying to silence Hillary by bribing her with repayment monies. They want the battle to continue to the convention.

GO HILL!

Rick Ballard

Barney,

I believe I'll refer to Clinton's house in Chapaqua as Hariworts from now on. It just seems so fitting...

Rich,

I'll do some digging on the Russian/Iranian aspect. The key is the timing of the KSA announcement about its plans to slow production in the Ghawar field to allow for rework. I believe that the decision to slow the start up of Azeri and Kazakh Caspian production was tied to that announcement but I need to verify the dates.

clarice

Jane, How nice!
JPod who I normally agree with says the Jackson thing helped Obama and that it caps a great week for him. I do not think so.

MayBee

Darn it. Maria Menounos is lurking outside my house right now. I'm afraid a family interview is about to crop up.

Friends, please be aware of this hazard because it could happen to you too.

centralcal

Clarice: I think the "nuts" thing definitely hurt Jesse and helped Obama.

However, it was revealing about what is going on behind the scenes in the Democrat party - particularly in the black community. As I wrote earlier, I betcha Jesse has been doing a lot of this "whispering."

I don't agree that Barry had a great week, though. Jpod's wrong on that one.

Rick Ballard

Rich,

These

three

pieces

provide some dots connected by a nice ENI/AGIP thread. It would be interesting to know the date for the Aramco call for tender on the Saipem seawater pipeline contract. The oil price squeeze play didn't actually start until last August and it really wouldn't have been successful if Venezuela and Mexico hadn't "helped" a little.

The other side of the coin is figuring out the coordination of the Peaker/Warmer propaganda effort. I consider it a joint effort rather than two separate pieces. All of the propaganda hangs on the manipulation of statistics and data to present a "credible" hypothesis concerning a "crisis" requiring a "global" solution.

I really lean towards the Russians as being central - the whole thing just reeks of Soviet style misinformation.

Sara

I haven't had time to read thru this thread, but this is such an eye roller, I figured the crowd at JOM would get a kick out of it.

This is beyond stupid. Political correctness run amok.

The gist: help wanted advertisements for air traffic controllers who need 20/20 vision sent out in Braille.

GMax

From Neo's link I pull this toungue in cheek comment:

For every 10 bucks you send us, we will hold our breath for one full minute before exhaling the CO2 into the atmosphere. This "carbon offset" will make you feel good about driving your Hummer to the next Global Warming demonstration.

I say, these guys seem to be invading the bird's nest you have built PUK!

RichatUF

Rick-

It would be interesting to know the date for the Aramco call for tender on the Saipem seawater pipeline contract.

I'll see what I can find, Aramco probably has its press releases archived.

The other side of the coin is figuring out the coordination of the Peaker/Warmer propaganda effort.

I've been leaning towards Jan 2007 myself for the squeeze play because that would incorporate the EU attempts at cap-and-trade schemes (note: the exchange began in 2005 and in 2007 the EU cooked the books a bit, I'm thinking of leaving stuff out though) and a noticable shift in panic and fear regarding some of their pronouncements, esp. Peak Oil, I've seen 2 programs advertised about the "end of oil" in the last couple of months with 2007 production dates.

Many thanks for the links.

Bill in AZ

Things that make you go hmmmm... oil drops for 2 days, and Iran fires a bunch of rockets. Oil is back up.

clarice

I should have been clearer:I don't think this has been a great week for Obama.

centralcal

Clarice, I understood you perfectly and was agreeing with you. It was John Podhoretz who thought Obama had a "good" week. Jpod is wrong.

MikeS

It's not surprising that Obama would cling to birthday cake and his daughter's ipod as a way of dealing with the frustration over people asking him questions and never letting him finish his waffle.

JM Hanes

Rich: "Kuchinich (D-Mother Ship) really is going to be allowed to introduce his impeachment article."

As reported by TSK9: "Heckuv a job, Nancy," said Harry Reid. Pelosi must be desperate for distractions from her FARCing around. I always suspected that the Dems would have a tough time letting go, but this is like One Trick Ponies Xtreme.

 Ann

Gmax,

If you think holding your breath is funny look at the picture at this link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2274995/Cow-farts-collected-in-plastic-tank-for-global-warming-study.html ">Cow farts collected in plastic tank for global warming study

clarice

It's been a dreadful week for Nancy,JMH--No Denver caterer would go along with her food directives, either.

JM Hanes

centralcal:

The numbers I've been waiting for with baited breath are Obama's. Remember that $100 million he was supposedly set to raise in June? Just before he took his campaign private? I've begun to wonder if they won't be pushing his stats out on Friday night. Anything less than that mythical $100 mil would suit me just fine. Apparently he's already abandoned his own, new improved, brand of public funding.

J2

Where is Carol Herman? I must say I really miss her posts. She's not banned or anything is she?

JM Hanes

Clarice:

Do you remember back when Nancy first took over the Dem helm in the House -- didn't she famously start off by handing out party giving/hospitality instructions of some kind?

centralcal

JMH: I agree about Obama's fundraising. They have been spending at a pretty big clip. It will be interesting.

J2: No one gets banned here, trust me! Even when we beg, plead, whine - TM ignores us.

centralcal

JMH: I remember Nancy had a lot of big, fancy plans for multiple expensive celebrations to honor Herself and her new historical Importance.

clarice

I don't remember that,JMH. I remember her insistence on a better plane for trips home and a redo of the House restaurants PLUS kicking smoking out of the bldgs even in those areas traditionally reserved for it.

clarice

I.Hate. Shephard Smith. He is an hystrionic pinhead.

Rick Ballard

JMH,

Remember that FEC isn't exactly in grade to follow through on any reporting shenanigans at the moment. Obama's May numbers were a little low - I wondered at the time if they were holding checks for deposit in June in order to show a "tremendous level of support" after the putsch. If he doesn't make it to $100 million they'll just wave away the previous forecasts - if he does, it will be two days of banner headlines.

GnuCarSmell

"He [Obama] hasn't had a vacation for months. He sees his family little more than once a week." Blah, blah, blah.

Someone give the man a Kleenex. Obama should quit feeling sorry for himself and thank his lucky stars Jesse Jackson never got to him with a knife.

Just theorizing here, but maybe Jesse fears Obama could have a male heir -- barring surgical intervention. Makes sense in a Freudian way.

ben

"Obama's comments strike me as typial for a guy who has striven for a big job, and suddenly has brought home to him what happens to his family life as a result."

Suddenly? Like he never thought about it??...no Appalled, Obama's comments were typical for a guy trying to use his children in a cheap and callous manner to garner a few votes, and then realizing it might have backfired.

ben

"I should have been clearer:I don't think this has been a great week for Obama."

Good weeks will be few for Obama here on in. The question is does he have enough money, enough favorable press and enough momentum to run out the clock. His bubble has been pierced, the ideology is gone, now its down to say anything that might possibly be worth a vote or two. Obama is now faith based, pro-gun, pro-surge, pro-death penalty, just hoping the Kos Kids and the Obamabots stay with him by default. It would be a Shakespearian tragedy if he still didn't have 48% of the vote. If he gets down to 40% the Bard himself will probably rise from the dead to write it. Liberals would probably start counting time as BO and AO as in BC and AC.

MayBee

I.Hate. Shephard Smith. He is an hystrionic pinhead.

He's color in a world of beige, clarice!
What did he say now?

Uncle BigBad

J2

"Where is Carol Hermann?" I've wondered that too. I kinda miss her.

Clarice

I've hated Shepherd Smith even before his disgraceful performance at Katrina.

By the way, last night, I got out my copy of "Triumph of the Will" which I downloaded from Usenet several years ago. Despite the slick camera work, Hitler embodies, in the words of Hannah Arendt, "the banality of evil."

clarice

I blocked it..MayBee. Just blocked it and still his pitiful squeals came thru.

BobS

ben: geeeez. How many times is this guy going to sa y he made a mistake or change his mind. I thought he had superior judgement. Someone with anything resembling judgement would never have surrounded himself with the likes of Ayers, Wright, et al.

BobS

Clarice: You missed my thanks last night. Scott Ott must have loved it.

MayBee

ha, clarice!

Jane

OT: I heard some juicy gossip about Ray Nagin today - and katrina. Remember when he disappeared for 3 days and then emerged talking about the "chocolate city". Apparently he had a complete mental breakdown and was found in his apartment, naked in a pool of his own feces.

And yet he's still in office.

JM Hanes

Ditto that, Leni! Loved it -- the tone was pitch perfect.

clarice

Thanks, Bob. I try to go thru all the threads but I know I miss some posts.
Wow--Some gossip,Jane.

centralcal

Omigawd, Jane! That's a little too much information! (holding my nose tightly).

Ray Nagin

I dreamt I was a chocolate island floating in a bayou of chocolate, and awoke to tell the world my vision of a chocolate city.

Jane

Too much information from a very very credible source who is associated with those who found him.

He's says there is a lot more we don't know about what happened during Katrina. I intend to drag as much as I can out of him.

centralcal

Clarice: somewhere yesterday I read that a study had been done (PEW?) showing that FNC's viewers were (rough number memory) approximately 38% Repub, 33% Dem, 22% Indy.

I figure Shephard Smith attracts the Dem viewers. What else could he attract? (uh, sorry I asked that question, no smart-*ss answers from peanut gallery!)

ben

I always thought Ray Nagin was the nation's shittiest mayor.

MayBee

Jane- Drag drag drag!

centralcal

ben: If Jane's source is accurate, then you would be very, very correct!

clarice

Frankly, I thought he appealed to the same sort of old lady who loved Liberace.

clarice

Thanks,jmh.

JM Hanes

Whenever I inadvertently catch a glimpse of Shep. Smith it looks like he's just spritzed himself all over with lipgloss.

Jane

I can't believe he is still mayor - but it certainly clarifies that meeting president Bush had with him in the bus with the Governor - I forget her name. Remember the one where they refused to let the feds take over. The man was out of his mind.

BobS

Oh, c'mon, Clarice! Let leave poor Liberace out of this!

BobS

Watching Hellboy on FX. I love having the summers off

clarice

Well, the lip gloss bill at Fox must be enormous..Some evenings all the blonde women have so much on, I'm afraid the reflected light off their lips will blind the viewers.

MikeS

I'm afraid the reflected light off their lips will blind the viewers.

I've never been completely blinded while watching Fox, but I did drift off into some kind of a trance one night when Lauri Dhue did a story on Ohio.

BobS

Sorry, Ladies. I have to go with MikeS about Lauri Dhue. OH MY GOD, MAGNUM!

He [Obama] hasn't had a vacation for months.

I seem to remember a quick 2/3 day vacation in the Caribbean, the U.S. Virgin Islands, just before North Carolina and Pennsylvania primaries.

BobS

what do I do?

Elliott

This discussion reminds me that after Brit Hume, who deployed the word "orchiectomy" on today's show, I'd rate Megyn Kelly as the second best FNC anchor/host.

I do recall finding her reporting on the Tom DeLay case a few years ago less than stellar, but over the last year I think she's done excellent work, both with legal analysis and anchor duties. I think she was hosting two shows a day at one point. Credit where it is due (note the missing character).

BobS

this way?

BobS

Its in the NYTimes...story about McCain's ineligibility to be president.

Its in Lucianne's forum

Topsecretk9

Speaking of lipgloss

Remember that story I told about my mom on a flight with Nancy (Culture of) and the whole SF to LA flight she sat applying an exotic form of pancake makeup that comes in a ginormous jar?

Mom admitted she spent the entire flight craning her neck trying to get a read on the kind and brand of face lift scar erasing magic elixir.

Elliott

Ann,

I won't tell DoT you said that about Greta, but I would advise you not to repeat that when he gets back.

 Ann

BobS, you got it.

Elliott, Thanks for the heads up (You are the best)!!! I bet DoT thinks more of her from her coverage of OJ than her current Fox Show. She is very smart but they give her THE VIEW material for her show.

(And just between you and me...you could use all the lipgloss at Fox and well...it's just between you and me :))

centralcal

Okay, I am more than likely treading on thin ice here, but I have long wanted to ask this question of NRO readers (I suspect there are a few on this blog).

Is it just me, or does Jonah Goldberg suffer from an enormous ego problem too? Everything he writes is about HIM. So, they gave hime his own little bloggy - but still he isn't satisfied, or gratified. He just has to post items on the Corner - all abou HIM, of course.

I am a fan and a reader of NRO and their blogs (The Corner, Geraghty, the Media blog). But, dang, Jonah just is so into JONAH - 24/7.

Okay, got that off my chest and will soon join Clarice in counting sheep.

MeTooThen

kim,

Late to the thread, as usual.

And will likely be a thread killer, as usual.

But this, in its entirety:

"That business about 'it just happened' is a key to his soul. He didn't have to tell that lie. Why didn't he know he couldn't get away with it? Well, he isn't used to being called on his 'convenient untruths'. This is the boy in whose cheeks butter wouldn't melt. He has become accustomed to saying just whatever is necessary to fool the one in front of him, and then to begone until the next opportunity to shade the truth. He's a compulsive liar; he lies when he doesn't even have to do so, and sociopathic in that it is always someone else's fault, even if he has to say it is the fault of the listener. This is badly abusive. A lot of people are just not going to take it all the way through November. The disgust among the unbelieving Democrats is worse than the disgust of conservatives with McCain, and that's saying a lot."

Me too, then.

You should save that comment.

Really.

After Barack Hussein Obama II becomes the President of the United States there will be plenty of woe, remorse, and disbelief, and not the least of which will be from The Believers.

And yes, that BHO cannot discern the true feelings of his own daughter gives great confidence to the notion that The Community Organizer in Chief will be able to negotiate successfully the disarmament of Iran, North Korea, Al Qaeda, and other belligerents.

Just sayin'.

 Ann

HeH, I was going to say ME TOO, THEN. LOL

BobS

ME TOO...you may not to use that one....its Obama's campaign technique....ME TOO...ME TOO

Topsecretk9

I like Jonah. And his "own blog" he even said was a temporary blog dedicated to his book subject Liberal Fascism

LEAVE JONAH ALONE!!!

(joke, sorta)

centralcal

Hey, Tops. I like Johnah's book. I even like Jonah - a lot of the time. But, sadly, I will never like Jonah as much as Jonah does.

narciso

No the answer is very much like "Hotel California", "you can check out any time
you like, but you can never leave" Was watching Hellboy as well, another night of Jesse stepping on his... well that's never
happened before, yadda, yadda. Now is it a coincidence when Barry's diplomatic strategy, collapses totally, that Jackson throws this slider; changes the subject. Of course the denounement of the Ramsey and the Condit story reminded me of all the carp stories that fill up space, where real issues are concerned. I see that the ACLU has already filed a challenge to the new FISA law. This is of a piece with my 'favorite' Gitmo correspondent Carol Rosenberg, complaining that the likes of
Ammar al Baluchi, kin to KSM, won't be able to take advantage of classified information disclosures, if they choose to be their own attorney; something about the fact, that religion makes it distateful to be
represented by a Westerner. Of course he didn't have such a problem with Western institutions like Standard Charter's UAE branch, that forward money to the 9/11 cells in Florida and San Diego. Rest assured, Judge Hogan, the one who was involved in that other soap opera of the 90s, the Microsoft trial; is going to get to the bottom of these detainee hearings, lickity split. Rigght

One thing that concerns me, about the Shahab 3, we weren't actually tracking the missile trajectories, to make sure one doesn't accidentally hit Al Ubeid AFB in Quatar, or Manama in Bahrain. Seeing which missiles actually launched. Another detail is how the reports that Fannie Mae; where FD. Raines, Gorelick, and Jim Johnson hang their hat is 'technically' insolvent. The mother of all bailouts commencing in 1,2,
. . So the Kazakh and Azeri fields are finally coming on line, maybe. It's funny how this guy Matthew Simmons came out of no where to propound the liberal version of the Apocalypse, Peak oil. Supposedly, he is against the Saud's claims, but his argument rather subtly works in their favor. Now apparently Boone Pickens, who was one of the few people that actually struck oil in Texas in the 80s (another was Rubin buddy Ken Lay) is now putting forth this
impractical mega windmill field program

centralcal

Okay. In the words of Clarice, I say . . .

Niters.

 Ann

Tops,

Nancy Pelosi says “This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax".

Me: I think Nancy needs a drill and is a hoax.

(Glad it's after hours because I would not of said that earlier :))

Me: I wish I was around for the inflight story. Sorry, I missed it.
Your mom sounds like fun.

Me: Reminder, Jonah and Greta are off limits. ::grin::
