ABC News fact checks an Obama Spanish-language ad tying John McCain to El Rushbo.
Shorter ABC - linking McCain to Limbaugh makes no sense sense Limbaugh is not exactly a supporter of McCain, and anyway, the evil Limbaugh quotes were taken out of context and are quite tame in context.
Quite a tony and high-minded campaign on both sides.
When I think of Obama, the most descriptive one word for him is LIES, it doesn't matter what language it's in.
Posted by: Pagar | September 18, 2008 at 06:47 AM
One of the Limbaugh quotes was actually turned around. He was talking about Mexico's tough immigration policy, not the U.S. and the other comment was from 1993. Pretty lame when you have to go back 15 years to find a negative quote and then only by taking it out of context.

My life has gotten a lot easier over the past couple of days - I no longer read JOM, or click refresh on the RCP averages, or check intrade for the current betting line, or look at Drudge. I'm tuning it all out because I'm scared, scared that Obama should be able to make hay out of the financial crisis simply because average folks don't understand it and might punish the party in power. Other people who don't understand the financial crisis include Bush, McCain, Obama, and every swinging dick in Congress. If Bush or McCain wanted to, or knew how to, or just got lucky, they could explain to the electorate that the current practice of "marking to market" depreciated assets leaves all sorts of companies with the appearance of insolvency, like art museums with masters on the wall who don't have the scratch to pay their electric bill and are therefore deemed to have no value. Change the reserve requirements, the regulatory hurdles, the nonsensical accounting inequities - and the Dow would rally 2000 points in about ten minutes. The extent of the cluelessness among our elected leaders, when it comes to basic economic understanding, is breathtaking.

McCain Seen as Less Likely to Bring Change, Poll Finds
By ROBIN TONER and ADAM NAGOURNEY
WASHINGTON — "Despite an intense effort to distance himself from the way his party has done business in Washington, Senator John McCain is seen by voters as far less likely to bring change to Washington than Senator Barack Obama. He is widely viewed as a “typical Republican” who would continue or expand President Bush’s policies, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll."
McCAIN is widely viewed as a “typical Republican” who would CONTINUE or EXPAND President BUSH'S POLICIES.
I thought I would repeat that, because it seems MILDLY important.

Never underestimate the gullibility of the muddle who reelected Ray Nagin in N.O., crook Jefferson in N.O., and (to be non-partisan here) will possibly reelect Stephens in Alaska due to Palin on the ticket. There are so many more: Charlie Rangel, Barney Frank, Harry Reid, .... So now they are willing to put a flyweight socialist, who will be manipulated by the congressional lefties, in charge of the country faced with multiple crises. And why? Because "Charlie" and "Anderson" and "Katie" think they should. This is what we face and the crazy Internet is accelerating this problem, allowing rumors and outright lies to get out into the public realm. I feel we are in for a tremendous fall in our future. I am getting the sense that the new Townehouse memo came out early this week with marching orders on the new media strategy to deal with Sarah Palin. The cone of silence has been descended over her and McCain. They will not be discussed for any reason whatsoever. I said here long ago that once the lib candidate was finally selected, you would here less about McCain than we heard about Fred Thompson.
We'll hear occasional mutterings about the McCain campaign "hiding" Sarah away from the press, etc - in fact on ABC news (radio) in between the cheering and gloating about the "trashed" economy they have finally managed to create, the newsreader mumbled exactly that about Sarah.

b) worries me a lot. If you track the campaign of Obama, he has never really admitted to going anything wrong. This really scares me more than McCain who actually gets mad when his staff puts him in a lie and then apologies.
I have always said that the principles of Ganhdi only work on those who can be shamed .. Obama doesn't appear to be shameable and that makes him very dangerous.

Charlie Rangel, draft bill.
Rangel, the chief sponsor, abandoned the bill himself when it came to the floor.
It probably didn't help that that bill had 4 "typos" that would have created a draft for both active-duty and "reverse" (not reserve) components of the military.
Obama seems to like the idea of a "reverse" military that can do retreats, etc.
Posted by: Neo | September 18, 2008 at 10:11 AM
Panic isn't warranted.
Nor is despair warranted about Obama's candidacy.
Americans are not the kind of people who would elect such a miscreant. The press won't be able to install him because Americans are too street-wise to be hoodwinked. Americans can smell poor character and mendaciousness when given long enough to sniff. Before long they can tell it when a man is a poseur with an empty resume, a liar and a narcissist.
In the end, Americans will pick the candidates with honor, integrity and achievement on their records over the candidates with only "high-tech lynchings," corruption, and self-aggrandizement to brag about.

Yeah. He got all weepy eyed last year when he met Vincent Bugliosi who was promoting his new book on the JFK assassination.
He made a few quotes extolling Bugliosi's skill and acumen as a prosecutor as well as his intellectual handling of the facts of his cases.
Bugliosi's 2008 book "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder" left him postless and, presumably, speechless. When I asked him about the book and added his quotes, he
lost his composure; "It's rude, and I won't stand for it"
I've been banned ever since.

I know that they are going to try and spin this as just one maladjusted kid trying to pull a prank, but I'm not buying it. The kid's dad is a genuine nutroot Obama supporter, who specializes in "environmental" issues.
This stuff was rapidly passed on to major media via email, and posted on wikileaks, and then displayed by both Gawker and Huffington Post within hours. And evidence that he's the guilty one--his father's website was down as of last night.

Posted by: bad | September 18, 2008 at 10:50 AM
Well, define "prank". It was clear from more or less the start that his motivation was political, and that he was disappointed to discover nothing: no pr0n, no illicit admissions of guilt, no notes to her paramours, nothing. A picture of Bristol sticking out her tongue and looking frankly adorable.
The attack was nothing much either: the kid's 1337 sk1lz turn out to be obsessive persistence and a poor password choice on Palin's part. But this was a level 3 hack on a log scale of 15. Once he had his stuff on 4chan, it was sure to get around quickly.

The hacker was very careless. His yahoo ID was Rubico10, and internet sleuths traced it. Oh, and he admitted in the chatroom that he had read all the emails, and there was nothing there. So no excuses to Gawker or Huffpost that they were doing anything of a valid political nature.

The latest is that the Dems in Congress want to recess and allow the administration to take the fall for the economic crisis. That is one of the single most irresponsible ideas I have ever heard.
It would seem that Reid and Pelosi will do anything to retain power to the detriment of the country. With the media in the tank, I am concerned that the truth gets out. The Democrats would bring the country to its knees for the sake of a power they seem unable and unwilling to use wisely. That is the ultimate indictment.
Obama has gone nuclear very early in the race, and this alone may torpedo his candidacy. "Getting in people's faces" is not good politics. Lying on Spanish radio will, I think, come back to haunt him.

"The Real Scoop On Palin’s Staged Town Hall Meeting — Another Pretend Moment!
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/
So, what was the catch? Unlike most town-hall events, which are open to the public, include diverse crowds, and no one needs an advance invitation, this event was for ticket-holders only. And the only way to get a ticket was through the local Republican Party, after an advance RSVP. No wonder Palin was prepared to play “stump the candidate” — it was a very friendly crowd that had no interest in testing her.
It doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence in the candidates’ ability to answer tough questions, does it?"
How long will the GOP continue to get away with lying, cheating and deceiving the American people?

I shouldn't wonder that the talk over the dinner table was how someone should take down that Palin bitch, and how she was probably using a private account to hide from the subpoenas. Mexico, does have a way of exporting it's problem elements. They thought their Revolution of 1911-; which really ended up more like an Iraqi style civil war, would solve every problem. It didn't of course, it only empowered the party of the Caudillos
the PRI, which is more like the Nasserists and the Baathist then they would care to admit. They nationalized the surface of the oil fields, forming PEMEX which seemed to solve the problem for a while.
They took Fidel in, after he was exiled from Cuba, after his post Moncada release
and then sent him back in '56, in likely
cooperation with the local KGB resident there. Nicolai Leonov. When some local folks got the idea to follow Fidel's lead
in the 1960s; Tlatelco was the result. Yet
they backed the Sandinistas and even provided sanctuary for the FMLN in the 80s; all the while profiting from OPEC 'highway
robbery in the 70s. Whenever they sufficient
screw up the economy; usually the year after
one of their Presidential election, they let their excess population cross the border; have us handle it. If folks from Guatemala or El Salvador, try to cross the border; they send the Mexican Army to send
them back. They had another brief brush with Marighela style community organizing
with the famous SubCommander Marcos, but that was pushed out of the picture, after a time. They have a cozy relationship with the Castro dynasty; sending almost every immigrant from their back; not of their own volition. At least one presidentialcandidate
(Colosio)and one archbishop (Posadas)have been dispatched for their opposition to the increasing drug cartel striving for 'market
share'. The two consecutive PAN presidencies
(Fox and now Calderon) belong to what some would call the 'bitter clingers' clique, and
they have done marginally better, than the PRI has done

It doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence in the candidates’ ability to answer tough questions, does it?"
Charles Gibson interviewed Obama last June right after he clinched the nomination and asked whether he'd accept McCain's offer to joint town hall debates in addition to the scheduled three. Obama said he absolutely would. Then later as his inability to speak without his telepromptor became apparent, he reneged. Who is it that is afraid of tough questions?

"your idea of a lie and a scandal is that the Republican Party is the one that issued tickets to a Republican campaign event?"
I think angel was suggesting this is a symptom within a pattern of behavior.

I think the light refers to weighting, or brain power as in light as a feather. Not much horsepower there.

if there'd been a purposeful conspiracy, I'd think before committing a federal felony they would have instructed the kid on how to use an anonymizer
Plus, they might have told him that after reading all the emails, don't post that as hard as you looked for something incriminating, it just wasn't there.

Well, maybe Cohen doesn't have a kid...but god forbid the rubico10 address still gets linked to his home. That would implicate him as the alleged "son", and an avowed Obama supporter, Palin basher.
Even worse, dare I use the Cleo method of innuendo without facts - perhaps there was a 20-year old at Cohen's, and perhaps Cohen has a secret.

I'm expecting a full onstage meltdown by that pansy loser.
You know, I um...we've got to...there's a crisis for Americans...Katie, I think you need to look at...um...you know, the Republicans' same old same old and John McCain is, um....
