Sarah Palin and the First Dude gave more to charity in the last two years than Joe Biden gave in the last ten, despite his higher income. But he supports higher taxes on other people, so we know he is truly compassionate and giving. Just not out of his own pocket.
INSUFFICIENTLY HERALDED: One of the great things about the Palin candidacy is that we aren't forced to endure more whining from Michelle about the high cost of piano lessons and the horrors of student loans.
Charity, schmarity.
Paying taxes is patriotic.
Right?

When I heard this story reported it came with a statement from the Obama/Biden campaign saying that Biden gives cash at his church and he and his wife give their time. (Like he goes to that restaurant that isn't there and hangs out at Home Depot.) But what I was reminded of is a picture I have seen of Palin working at a building site that I believe was a Habitat for Humanity project.
Sorry Joe, Sarah wins again.
Posted by: BAW | October 04, 2008 at 03:55 PM
Well, Sarah didn't pay her taxes ...
... or didn't pay sufficient taxes at the time she and Todd filed for an extension
... or they had an accountant who said "Hey! write a check for $2,000 and that'll cover it."
or something.
Anyway, if they haven't all ready, teh Leftards will be shrieking that Sarah's a tax dodger.
Despite the fact that it's the tax preparer certifies the result.
One particularly disturbed Leftard who's blogging at The Atlantic will be shrieking that Sarah's claim that Trig is her baby should be investigated by the IRS.

I love it when newspapers let reporters do stories about things of which they're totally ignorant:
First, the headline writer confuses 'tax bracket' with tax rate. Which could have been cleared up with a simple Google search.
Second, business income is found by deducting from gross receipts, BUSINESS EXPENSES; things like rent, interest expense, depreciation, electricity.... Expenses, not 'deductions'.
There's nothing unusual in what Todd Palin reported. Sheldon Cohen is an idiot.

I don't think McCain realizes just how bad it was while he was the guest of the VC. America changed drastically between 1967 and 1973.

Two comments on this absurd quote...first is it more patriotic not to take the deductions you are legally entitled to?...second, where did they find this guy, at the IRS Senior's Home...an IRS Commissioner probably had to be 40 at least, in the mid-60's, which was 43 years ago...but I am glad the MSM thinks 85 year olds are perfectly lucid, it means McCain will be doing well in his 4th term....

Before the debate, those same undecided voters were leaning 56 percent to 44 percent for McCain. The day after the debate, the numbers tilted 52 percent to 48 percent for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.

This morning, about somewhere in the 6-7am time frame, the farm show was interviewing somebody (might have been former Reagan agriculture secretary John Block?) who had a pretty good 2-minute explanation of how the democrats and the lawyers forced banks to lend money to bad credit risks, and killed John McCain's bill ("with 3 others") in 2005 that tried to get Fan & Fred under control, and how if the credit markets didn't get unfrozen the farmers not only weren't going to be able to get credit for seed and fertilizer in the spring, they weren't going to be able to get credit to buy diesel fuel to get the current crop out of the field.
Ok, it was pretty well hidden, but it's now recorded, on the record, and can be repeated in other times and places that get more attention.
A start, as they say.

But the returns show he claimed so many deductions that he reported only $15,513 net profit from the fishing operation and claimed a $9,639 loss from his racing, leaving him with an overall net income of $5,874.

Where does slime mold come from?
A very good analogy. Slime molds (Myxomycota) are single-celled amoeboid organisms (myxoamoeba) that live on rotting leaves in moist areas; under certain conditions, individual myxoamoebas will merge, giving up their individuality by joining a single, multinucleated zygote. These plasmids are the largest single-celled organisms known, and ca reach sizes into the tens of meters. These plasmids have a characteristic glossy, wet appearance, hence the name "slime mold." Often bright yellow, they can be found in the detritus of the forest floor.
Under certain conditions, the slime mold will form a fruiting body, which releases spores that are spread throughout the neighborhood, where individual spores can release contained myxoamoebas, starting the cycle again.
So, let's see: single-celled organisms, lacking intelligence, forming into large groups by giving up their individuality in order to become part of a mass, the mass itself characterized by relatively quick movement lacking in intelligence, and sporulating to spread themselves from large concentrations and move into new areas.
By George, I think we need to write this up: trolls are slime molds.

I added a few harvest pics on photobucket.
AWESOME, thanks for that link to your harvest pics!
Was a beeeeautiful day here today. I was supposed to camp with hit and run jr in the woods behind our house tonight, but, er, discipline problems (his, not mine, but thanks for asking) prevented it from happening.

Glad you clarified whose problem that was, Hit. Too bad about the camp out though.

Ben, Sheldon Cohen is a respected figure in the tax world, but, unless he can point to improper deductions taken on the tax return of the Palins, he is way out of line. It is a fundamental principle of federal taxation that folks can arrange their affairs to minimize their tax burden. It has nothing to do with the kind of backroom deals and corruption that Sarah Palin is criticizing. Sheldon Cohen should be ashamed of himself.
