No, I am not talking about the financial markets. I am utilizing my retroactive genius to note the now-so-obvious-it-was-inevitable media surge in support of Sarah Palin.
Her Saturday Night Live appearance even won kind words from the NY Times. And CBS News runs what might fairly be called a fawning puffer - evidently Ms. Palin is the only one of the four candidates talking to the press and they are in love with her for it. The NY Times bloggers also noted with praise her new direction with her press corps, and included this detail:
A reporter who transcribed her comments for a pool report later Sunday evening sounded his approval. “In her continuing evolution from the least accessible to the most accessible of the four candidates, Palin took questions from your pooler at the Coldstone Creamery in Colorado Springs.”
Two weeks left - plenty of time for them to resume loathing her again. However, let me echo the thought of The Anchoress, who noted that the Bush-bashing on Saturday Night Live seemed sooooo yesterday and suggest that Sarah-bashing may have become ancient history in our fast-paced media age.
I DEPLORE THIS SEXISM: A bunch of bored, paunchy male reporters hanging out with the Hot Chick and liking it - imagine my surprise. My question is, what took the McCain geniuses so long to figure this out?
You can be a media star..Make your own Joe the Plumber video and submit it to this contest:
*****************************
By now, "Joe the Plumber" is a household name and has become a symbol of Barack Obama's plan to "spread the wealth around." During a recent campaign event in Toledo, Ohio, "Joe the Plumber" asked a simple question and got a surprising answer from the Democratic nominee. When he asked why Barack Obama's tax plan was going to punish him for working hard and living the American Dream, Barack Obama responded, "When you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
In that brief exchange, the American people got to see what this campaign is all about ... a choice between honoring the hard work of everyday Americans like "Joe the Plumber" and increasing taxes to "spread the wealth." In these tough economic times, there is no doubt that John McCain and Sarah Palin stand firmly on the side of hardworking "everyday Joes" who understand the value of honest work and the American Dream.
That's why we want to hear from you and share your story with the American public. It's simple ... make an ad telling us why you are "Joe the Plumber" in 30 seconds and we'll put the best ad on the air as a TV ad.
Share your story of living the American Dream, working hard, or owning a small business to tell America why you're standing with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Click here today to learn more and submit your video before Friday, October 24th.
Then help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity - tell your friends to visit JohnMcCain.com/Joe to submit their own video and share their story.

About Barack Hussein Obama:
Poll finds Americans reject redistribution of wealth as suggested by Barack Hussein Obama
PRINCETON, NJ -- When given a choice about how government should address the numerous
economic difficulties facing today's consumer, Americans overwhelmingly -- by 84% to
13% -- prefer that the government focus on improving overall economic conditions and
the jobs situation in the United States as opposed to taking steps to distribute wealth
more evenly among Americans.

Barack Hussein Obama is a national security risk: a clear and present danger.

On February 27, 2007, Barack Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the
prettiest sounds on Earth." In an interview with The New York Times, Senator Obama
recited, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent," the opening lines of this Muslim prayer:
"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that there is no god but Allah

Hi y'all! I'm here in London and have 100% completely missed the Joe the Plumber story. (It is such a strange feeling to be this out of the loop after having pored over all election-related minutiae for over a year now.) So, I gather he is some sort of angel sent down from above to explain the concept of wealth redistribution to the Muddle? I haven't had a chance to read even the tiniest summary, but that's what I'm getting.
Had a walking tour guide this afternoon who was clearly interested in a potential Obama win and who was quizzing my Obama-supporting, Cincinnati-residing friend about Obama's chances in the Buckeye State.
In semi-related news, above-mentioned friend lives in a house in Cincy once purchased by Charles Keating for his son. (Keating lived in the house next door.) All the Cincy liberals seem to be putting out their Obama signs this week, according to my friend's husband.
Miss you all at JOM! London is terrific, but as I said, it is very odd to be so divorced from election news...

Chicago Tribune
LANSING, Mich. - Democrats and Republicans battling over allegations that home foreclosure lists would be used to challenge voters at the Michigan polls settled their differences Monday.
The two sides issued a joint statement Monday, the same day arguments were to be heard in U.S. District Court in Detroit in the case brought by the Obama for America campaign, the Democratic National Committee and several Macomb County voters.
In the statement, Democrats say they alleged that Republicans were planning to use foreclosure lists to challenge voters on Election Day, and Republicans say they never intended to do that.
"To clarify the matter for all voters, all parties are pleased that they agree that the existence of a person's address on a foreclosure list does not provide a reasonable basis for challenging the person's eligibility to vote and that none of these parties will challenge any voter's eligibility on that basis," the joint statement went on to say.
The lawsuit was filed Sept. 16 after The Michigan Messenger reported on its Web site that Macomb County Republican Party Chairman James Carabelli told one of its reporters that "we will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren't voting from those addresses."

Yes, Kim, that's so. Here's what you said:
here's what the quote you just pasted says:
These are exactly contradictory; the Democrats made the allegation, the Republicans denied it, and the agreement merely says that both sides agree that's not an appropriate basis to challenge registration. It NO WHERE SAYS the settlement acknowledges the existence of such a scheme.
So, someone's lying. Someone has posted something that wasn't true. Are they the same people? Maybe not: maybe you're just a credulous fool, instead of a knowing liar.

Well, Taranto's right about TM and Joe, but he's a bit too nuanced about ACORN:
Our sense is that McCain may have been overstating that case and the Acorn's shenanigans probably won't rip the fabric of democracy.
200,000 votes in Ohio, which could easily make the difference in a close election? ACORN's been at this every election for the past 10 years that I remember -- phony registrations followed by cries of "disenfranchisement," when the phony voters show up to vote -- and it keeps getting worse, but by all means, let's poo-poo its significance all the way to Obama's election, shall we?

Since state polls usually lag national polls, we should soon see a tightening of the state polls also. Obama can't have a double digit lead in swing states if he is only up 4 or 5 points nationally, considering the wide lead he has in populous states like NY and California and Illinois.

Last week, as we noted at the time, the New Mexico GOP had publicly claimed that 28 people voted fraudulently in the Democratic primary, held in June, for a local race.
Then this morning, the RNC sent out a press release announcing a 3pm conference call with reporters "on the recent developments in New Mexico regarding ACORN."
But at 11am, ACORN -- the community organizing group that Republicans have been trying lately to turn into a voter fraud boogeyman -- held a conference call of its own, asserting that local election officials had confirmed that the 28 people in question, mostly low-income Latinos, were valid voters.
So here at TPMmuckraker, we wondered what the RNC's response to this would be. And on the 3pm call, we asked party spokesman Danny Diaz.
Diaz dodged the question. He talked about an incident with ACORN in Washington state, then referred us to an October 9th Wall Street Journal story, which did not address the allegation made last week by the state GOP about fraudulent voting in the Democratic primary. (Instead, it reported that the FBI had opened a preliminary investigation into thousands of fraudulent registration forms submitted in an area near an ACORN office.)
When we tried to follow up, Diaz cut us off

Here's more from the Chic Tribune article above --just in case you thought this highly publicized matter was anything but Dem mudslinging:
"In response, the RNC and state GOP asked the court to require the Democrats to pay their attorney fees if the Democrats lost. The lawsuit was settled before it went to court.
"We didn't approach them. They approached us, saying they were amenable to a settlement," state GOP spokesman Bill Nowling said Monday. "There is not and never has been a plan to use foreclosure lists to challenge voters."
The so-called statement by the Rep official which formed the basis of the suit was hotly denied by him. In fact he's sued the publication for defamation.
Let me put this even more simply for semantic:
(1) The Reps never said they'd use foreclosure lists and the paper which said they did is being sued for defamation;
(2) The Dems ran with that carp and filed a highly publicized lawsuit based on a lie;
(3)The Reps denied the claims; sought an early hearing and demanded the Dems pay their legal fees if the defense won;
(4) Lickety split the Dems cried uncle and dropped the suit.

Just one week ago, Obama held a three percentage point lead but Obama has been dramatically outspending McCain on television advertising in this critical state. The Democrat has now been ahead of McCain in five straight Virginia polls conducted by Rasmussen Reports.

the only thing which keeps it alive is the obvious fact that Obama could end the suit by producing it and hasn't done so.
Primarily the non-production of the certificate, but maybe also the 2 Obama family members who claim to have witnessed his birth ... in Kenya.
At this point, I doubt any of it will have an impact, even if Berg wins his suit. And no matter what Michelle said, it won't matter, since those who are voting for Obama are doing so because of the color of his skin, not his leadership or management skills, nor his policies and they probably agree with Michelle and Barack that whitey is bad just by virtue of their skin color.

Lack of Support for Wealth Redistribution Spans Political Party, Income Groups
Americans' lack of support for redistributing wealth to fix the economy spans political parties: Republicans (by 90% to 9%) prefer that the government focus on improving the economy, as do independents (by 85% to 13%) and Democrats (by 77% to 19%). This sentiment also extends across income groups: upper-income Americans prefer that the government focus on improving the economy and jobs by 88% to 10%, concurring with middle-income (83% to 16%) and lower-income (78% to 17%) Americans."
Ok that is something for McCain to run ads on for 2 weeks....

I read a headline this morning about real estate sales in Calif. being up something like a whopping 68% over this time last year. I don't don't know where that might be.
We live on a short block of 12 houses and 6 of them are for sale. The next block has 17 houses and 7 are for sale. The house next door was foreclosed on 5 mo. ago, the mortgage was $440,000. It has sat empty all these months. Yesterday, finally, a for sale sign went up and a flyer box installed. I went and got one and see the asking price is now $210,000. That is even less than the house sold for new in 2001. 4 BR 3 BA with pool.

POwell and Mac were in the 'Nam at the same time ('68-'69-'70), under very different circumstances, and 40 years later the General supports the Weatherman. Mac meet your new friend Scooter. You guys can pull the knife out of each others backs.

John Kerry was doing alot better at this stage of the game in 2004 then Barak Obama is now.
At this time four years ago John Kerry has a +10-15% lead in all of the "battleground states", was outpolling Bush among "uncommitted" voters and in the national polls Kerry led George Bush 50% to 45% with a couple of pollsters stating that Kerry would win with 300+ EV"s. All during the campaign the MSM was Kerry's whore, including the attempt of trying to push fradulent TANG records off on the people in the infamous "Rathergate" scandal.
On 10-28-08 John Kerry drew 100,000 people at a rally in Wisconsin, too.
John Kerry is still the junior senator from Massachusetts.

I have a terrific idea!
Judith Miller (yes, that one), newly hired as a FoxNews analyst (snort) says she is voting for Barack Obama.
I think she should call a press conference and announce her endorsement publicly.

WTF, maybe they can make her Baxter's fill in.

I got invited back on the radio tomorrow to discuss the state of the election and the Powell endorsement, among other things -
So the host is gonna say that for Powell this is payback to the Bush administration for how he was treated. My inclination is to respond that if that is true, perhaps we over-estimated his so-called patriotism. Any other ideas.

Lou Dobbs' poll question today is...
Whose endorsement means more?
Colin Powell
or
Joe the Plumber!
Posted by: Syl | October 20, 2008 at 07:51 PM
speaking of Joe the Plumber, it was reported on either CNN or FOXNEWS that people at an Obama rally today started yelling out:
Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!
And Obama plans to get with his advisors for an answer to give them.
WTF? Obama doesn't have an answer off the tip of his golden tongue?

bunky: Don't know who Ailes thinks Judy will appeal to. The analyst everyone (left and right) hates should be a great come on.
Glen Beck will be on at 5 pm come Spring and I would like to watch him, except that is 2 pm Calif time and I am at work.

#1, the stuff that Powell said about McCain's campaign (negativity) he got from watching the news.
#2. Who cares. Joe the Plumber is the REAL important endorsement in this campaign.

Syl: that would be off the tip of his golden teleprompters.
