IIRC the target dance was an NCO dance at Fort Dix. Either way, not only fellow soldiers, but fellow blacks were the target.

Also civilians: it was a social dance with a mixed population.

Verner

And TM, congrats for the hattip at Weekly Standard. My oh my, you are one popular blogger!

Just don't forget the little people...

Charlie (Colorado)

Oh, this is fascinating:

In theory, exit polls should match election results. But for all the care that goes into conducting accurate exit polls, errant results aren’t completely uncommon. Respected polling analyst Mark Blumenthal found that during the Democratic primaries this year, preliminary exit polls overestimated Obama's strength in 18 of 20 states, by an average error of 7 percentage points, based on leaked early results.

Ninety percent of the exit polls overstated Obama's vote, by 7 percent on average.

Here's a proposition: this is going to be similar in magnitude to the "Bradley Effect". hypothesis: the same social pressures that change the exit polls affect answers to pre-vote polls.

That would, of course, mean that McCain's actual expected vote is within margin of error of the polls.

sam

Why wont Palin release her medical records?

The truth about the baby factory in her home?

Ann hearts Joe Plumber

Verner, dittos!! You beat me to it: " And excuse me, if there's one thing most people I know don't like it's a guy that betrays his friends."

Jane, you also need to read this before your radio show:

General Blind Spots
Questioning Powell’s judgment and global perception.

Some other questions:

*Why has Powell not campaigned for black Republicans like: Ken Blackwell, Michael Stelle, Lynn Swann, and has he ever defended Clarence Thomas? Is he afraid of being called an Uncle Tom?

*Considering the fact that Obama didn't visit Iraq until it was embarrassing not to and the fact that Obama didn't care if the U.S. won the war should be compared to Powell's acceptance of leaving Iraq in the first war without really winning and the fact we left Saddam Hussein in power to shoot at our planes in the no fly zones and give 25,000 dollars to terrorist families.

*Why hasn't he campaigned for Obama if he truly believes in him?

*We have two weeks until the election and the media is telling us he has already won. Mr. Powell we have a question: Do you just want to be on the important D.C. cocktail list?

* You haven't meet with Sarah Palin or your so called friend Senator McCain but yet you think Obama would be a better President because he will meet with our enemies unconditionally.

How does that work for ya?

*And more important than anything else: Do you really believe that McCain's rallies have more vitriol than Obama's? Considering your inactions in the Libby Case.. I think you are guilty of "you first" not "Country First"

And then their is the awful General Petraeus Ad: General Petraeus or General Betray Us?
What side were you on Mr. Powell?

Jim Ryan

The truth about the baby factory in her home?

Oh, Andy. Do the orderlies know you've slipped out of your room?

Jane

Leslie,

I don't know if your reference to the Belmont Club was this thread or the other but it was very helpful, thank you.

Jane

Ann - good stuff. I'll just bring you all into the studio with me.

I suspect we will be talking about a lot more than Powell. Personally I want to spend some time on Biden's comments

matt

There's going to be some fallout from all of this. Powell may get a nice job out of his endorsement, but history is going to be very unkind. Same for the Republican intelligentsia. Gone. Europe after the financial crisis? Irrelevant.

Be careful what you wish for my Democtaric friends. You're going to own this mess and eventually people will wake up like a drunk after a big Saturday night out; a sour taste in their mouths, a massive headache, sick to their stomachs, and with some strange skank in bed next to them.

4 more years? Somehow I think not....Hey,maybe Hillary will change parties....

Cecil Turner

4 more years? Somehow I think not....

I'm not convinced they're going to win this one, even with a full-court press by the chattering class. But who can tell? Some of the election stupidity is so profound that it beggars belief (e.g., Martin Sheen, pretending to be a popular progressive President, is influential amongst Democrat voters in Washington).

Pofarmer

McCain was about 45 minutes from here yesterday. If it had been Palin I may have taken off out of the field to go, but anyway. They played a clip of him on the morning radio show that was locally recorded, and it confirmed what I had been thinking. The clips I've been hearing on the national networks are about an Octave too high. Same for Palin. But, Barry and Biden are nice and low and mellow.

Jane

Jim Treacher,

In case you stop by again today, I gotta tell you, I love your blog. For me it has the perfect tone.

rhodeymark

Thank you JL & Charlie, it drives me nuts when our side blurs the distinction between Officers and NCOs. The target audience was drafted E4s & E5s - young kids - and yes, probably a diverse crowd if the music was pop mix. Civilian females always ensured a good turnout, meaning a nailbomb would have been horrific. F'n animals, straight to hell they went.
Shifting gears, I think Granny is probably a sympathetic sort, but was an enabler married to a red. That Gramps, psychologically abusive rat that he was, would use the incident at the bus stop to illustrate Granny's latent racism is disgusting. Putting Barry at the knee of the twisted FM Davis was child abuse of the first order. Obama is damaged goods all right, and Michelle Robinson knew that his exploitation was a once in a lifetime shot.

rhodeymark

richard - a CafePress idea I'd like to see is "Trojan Donkey" with the o's done Zero style.

clarice plumber

Me, too, Jim.(Jane and I share tastes in men and bloggers.)

jean

Clarice. I can't get over the idea Obama wasn't with his mom when she died. How horrible for both of them.Mom at her death.Obama as he gets older and realizes how much pain he caused.

Ranger

Some people are already figuring out what Biden meant. He was not just saying that Obama will be tested, he is saying that when hit, we will not hit back. That is the "unpopular" part. Obama wants to demonstrate that the US will "show retraint" under his leadership. He has already decided that no matter what they throw at him, he will not be "suckered" into a response.

That is what Biden was telegraphing to the liberals at the fundraiser: 'We are going to do it your way, and people won't like it, so be ready to stand up for us when we look like whimps.'

kim

Everybody's missing the obvious that his mother transferred her affection from him to his step-father, who probably treated him like a step-child.

*** Ras Polls hold steady ***

At 4 percent Obama. Frankly, I'm fine with that.

Zogby soars to -8. However, I read somewhere (maybe here)yesterday that That One had a monster +12 on Sunday... so the water buffalo moves through the boa.

kim

Gad, I hope you're wrong, Ranger. I think Obama is going to act like the over-controlled angry man that he is, and his responses will be more like the angry and erratic responses his campaign has already made whenever they've faced a crisis. Now Biden, I think he's getting a sense of the major league craziness he has signed onto, fears it, and bless his pea-pickin' little heart, is trying to warn us in the best way he knows how, that is obliquely and ineffectively.

*** Breaking News ***

By George! Now that's what I'm talking about!!!

GW/Battleground has McCain within ONE POINT!

48-47.

jean

I think Obama is angry only at the USA.and the typicals.I'm afraid he would be too happy to sit by and watch us beat up a bit.Hope I'm wrong

bio mom

I agree with Ranger.

It would be very dangerous for this country to elect Obama who I think really doesn't care a fig about the country's defense, as is so for most social justice types who resent the money taken from their programs to support it, and Biden who is a doofus (I'm from Delaware and have known this guy since he was elected 30 years ago). Go out and vote for McCain!! He can win this. Ignore the polls. Mostly garbage.

Jane

Read Obi Wan's latest at the Campaign Spot. It's pretty cool.

LUN scoll down

jean

Over at Freerepublic {still can't do the linky thing}.The SOS of Ohio computers were hacked. All sorts of vital election information has been lost.

kim

The rhythm of the momentum shifts gives one more chance for it to go back to Obama, but let's see how far the flow goes this time. I think the main gamechanger, the credit crunch, has been neutralized by the time between it and the election, and the polity's understanding that Obama's way is not the best way to survive hard economic times. Let us be thankful for Joe the Plumber.

Besides, our side has multi-tasking campaign signs. That's frugal.
=========================================

kim

jean, now that one sounds Reichstagian, depending, I suppose, on who gets the benefit of the lost information. I guess I'll have to go look for myself.
============================

jean

KIM. Please do you are much better at sorting this stuff out than I

sbw

Underneath Obama there are no principles. That's what makes him weathervane. That's what makes him dangerous. That's what will make him ineffective. He will be putty in the hands of his handler, Evita. I mean Michelle.

kim

Well, without looking, it benefits the bad guys; who else would stoop to such tricks. I'll guess it will make it impossible to do what the Ohio Supreme Court is about to tell that Secretary of State to do, rendering the judgement moot. Is that paranoid enough?
========================================

jean

Yes.That is what I thought, butI'm glad to have a paranoid buddy.I would have thought a state computer system would have some kind of backup.I guess my ignorance in all things computer is showing

clarice plumber

Jane, Kaus says the Powell endorsement has already passed any significance--not even HuffPo is making anything of it.

matt

Bhody;

they're all volunteers now...no more draft....

kim

jean, I told a friend of mine once that the belief that everyone was out to get you was only paranoid if it were not true. Well, he was graduated, but died not terribly long after of cancer. I've wondered if his immune system just couldn't take the constant abuse to his self-esteem.

The analogue here is that the Obama Way is using every dirty trick in the book. It ain't just you and me having paranoid thoughts.
========================================

Lea

I hate to defend Obama about this, but his mother abandoned him more than once; I wouldn't find it hard at all to imagine that they were pretty estranged.

Which is why it always seems weird to me when he talks about being raised by a "single mother". I mean, some of the time he was raised by her and his father, some by her and his step father, some by his grandmother...how much single mother time was there, really?

jean

I guess half the world is turning paranoid.NRO has a link to sold out "energy food" at Costco.I know if McCain does win folks in my town will be staying very close to home for a few days

Jane

Jane, Kaus says the Powell endorsement has already passed any significance

I agree - it was made moot by Biden's gaffe. (I've already got that written down as a talking point. Who would imagine I would ever have a "talking point"?)

jean

A lot of people have Mother issues when they are young.Maybe if he had been older when she died these feelings would have been worked out.I can't help but believe at some point Obama is going to understand what a cruel thing he did.

bad

How long were Obama and his mother estranged?

clarice plumber

Jane--Variety says Mark Foley whose indiscrete emails to e pages was conflated into a scandal that brought the Dems back into Congressional power was atwitter about the Powell endorsement--seems he's for Obama. Though he is laughing his ass off about his successor Mahoney.

Now Biden, I think he's getting a sense of the major league craziness he has signed onto, fears it, and bless his pea-pickin' little heart, is trying to warn us in the best way he knows how, that is obliquely and ineffectively.

Heh. I have always liked Biden, even if he says crazy stuff sometimes, so I like this interpretation a lot. It is consistent, since he said in the primaries that he didn’t think Obama was ready. There is no indication that he has changed his mind.

Besides, our side has multi-tasking campaign signs. That's frugal.

Hee!

clarice plumber

Albright agrees that Obama would be tested shortly after elected by an international crisis. It's on a utube circulating widely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD_EAe1N9-M

So we have the agreement of the two most experienced of O's million man team of foreign policy advisors nowm don't we:Elect Obama and get a crisis.

Jane

I will never ever ever like Biden after what he has done to presidential nominees at their confirmation hearings -

Ever

bad

With all of these tests coming up for Obama he needs to release his academic records to show us how he does on tests.

bad

Obama just said companies are not able to meet payroll due to the credit crisis. Which companies?

clarice plumber

Jane, he really is awful and stupid. In the last hearings it seemed to me that he was as motivated by envy of men far brighter than he as he was by political considerations...and then there's the sadism of being in control of the mic and able to bully men who are in no position to responde in kind.

clarice plumber

Which companies?
Lehman for one.

jean

Biden looked like a dang aligator at those hearing.I thought he had dentures that didn't fit.He kept grinning and clicking his teeth

bad

Lehman for one.

I must have misheard him. I thought he was referencing companies right now.

Jane

He kept grinning and clicking his teeth

That's because he was lying thru them.

"You say "it's not like she abused him," but actually, it is like she abused him. In fact, I can tell you from experience, that being abandoned can be worse tham merely physical abuse."

Yes,but don't you expect the 604 Million Dollar Man to have more decency, nobility and Christian charity than this? What happened to "Honour thy father and thy mother"? Yes,his mother was a flake, but she was his mother. The man needs to acknowledge this and perhaps recognise those characteristics in himself.
Do you really want a president with psychological issues that he runs from rather than confronts like a man?

jean

Jane. you are so right, but couldn't he looked a little more sane.Have to say I did get a laugh at his exspense when he wore some schools BB cap, because of the insulting things he'd said the day before

clarice plumber

bad, I was joking.

PUK My mom was --and still to some extent is --a grievance collector who never could understand my readiness to forgive others..I promise, it is an utterly selfish act. Carrying around that kind of anger is too heavy a burden. Give it up and move on.When you don't it cripples you--I believe it has crippled The One .

Sue

If you read or listen to (there is a link on the Rocky thread under one of my lame posts) Frank Davis's poems, you will notice the hate for the white man that Obama seems to gravitate towards. It was no accident he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary in the right Rev. Wright's church. Davis had already sent him on that path from an early age. And as the poem Sarah linked on that same Rocky thread shows, Obama held Davis in high regard.

Verner

Plumber Pal et al.

I have a theory about just what Crisis Biden has in mind. ISRAEL,

Remember about a month ago when reports circulated that BHiden had told the Israelis that they would just have to get used to an atomic Iran? I've heard virtually nothing about that since.

Well, I think that most consider it an inevitability. O knows this, and will do NOTHING. And if Israel gets nuked? what do you think O will do? NOTHING. And Biden is warning them that they need to support the one over this tough decision.

Jessie Jackson and Farrakahn are absolutely right about Obama--and they should know.

clarice plumber

Well, if he weren't crippled he'd not be a narcissist and if he weren't a narcissist is there any way he'd have had such political success?

Charlie (Colorado)

Yes,but don't you expect the 604 Million Dollar Man to have more decency, nobility and Christian charity than this?

No.

Give it up and move on.When you don't it cripples you--I believe it has crippled The One .

Right on.

PeterUK

"Carrying around that kind of anger is too heavy a burden. Give it up and move on.When you don't it cripples you--I believe it has crippled The One ."

The idea that the finger on the nuclear button belongs to an emotionally damaged man is not consoling.
Obama is 47,up to about twenty five, the One can whine mewl and puke about his parents, after that it is all your his work.
You are looking at a spoiled brat pretty boy .

bad

McCain managed to move on after what was done to him in the Hanoi Hilton.

SWarren

Sue,
I noted a fondness for "Pops" in that poem too. Reminded me of something the freepers were talking about a week or so ago--speculating Davis is Obama's father. Linked to this video.

Look at the photo of Davis at the start. Of course he is much fleshier than obama, but if you cover the lower face, look at the eyes, the eyebrows slightly slanted, and the EARS.

PeterUK

In many ways,Obama is like Bill Ayers,a privileged upbringing and education, far above that of Joe the Plumber.Like many leftists,Obama and Ayers had to insert disadvantage into the narrative. It is a common psychopathy amongst leftists.

SWarren

Sue, I noticed a fondness for Davis in that poem too. Reminded me of something I saw at FR a week ago. Linked to this video.

they're all volunteers now...no more draft....

True that, Matt - I was one of them there volunteers. However, at the time of the Greenwich Village "pre-detonation" (1970), those NCOs would have been conscripted youth. Striking out at them shows that the level of depravity of Obama's "neighbors" was unfathomable. Interestingly enough, wiki says bombs in the townhouse were also being assembled for Butler Library - at Columbia! I wonder if Obama knows how close he came?

Let me brood on that one for a while.

M. Simon

The key to Obama is that he is a guilty white man.

glenda waggoner

Clarice-
Thank you for this--grievance collector--that is so true of adults who can never relax, be happy, or succeed due to so called "grievances" made by others on them. My brother and Father ,to this day, cannot let go of the past and are miserable when in the same room. My brother has a successful personality but professionally failed and just the opposite for my Father. In true forgiveness, we must all forget, if we cannot grow from it.
Just got back from the early voting hall, and it was brisk, steady--last Presidential election--the early voting was low compared to this--many McCain supporters-yea!

Rocco

Or maybe Israel attacking Iran? How long have we heard Israel say they'd never allow another holocaust? Maybe Biden's talking about defending Israel should Israel attack first?

clarice plumber

You're welcome, Glenda. I am sure it's not original but I have no recollection of where I first heard it.

Charlie (Colorado)

The idea that the finger on the nuclear button belongs to an emotionally damaged man is not consoling.

But we managed to get by with Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Carter, Reagan (maybe, he seemed to have coped pretty well), Clinton, and arguably Bush_{43}.

clarice plumber

If Obaa wins and something happens to Biden, you do know the next up is Pelosi, don't you? Why aren't we making more of this? HWH

Charlie (Colorado)

In true forgiveness, we must all forget, if we cannot grow from it.

Us Buddhists have a couple of useful terms: karuna and maitri. Karuna is "compassion" --- the ability to recognize yourself in what someone else is feeling. maitri is "lovingkindness" --- the feeling you have for, say, a kitten or a puppy: desiring the best for it, wishing is only good.

The key, at least for me, in forgiveness, has been awakening karuna and maitri --- although both are very hard going for me. Karuna, in the case of some of my childhood issues, in recognizing that the other person was doing the best they could at the time; maitri to give up anger and awaken good feelings.

The hardest one of all is to have both karuna and maitri toward yourself.

Rocco-

Maybe Biden's talking about defending Israel should Israel attack first?

Hahahahahahahaha. Obama's administration will throw Israel under the bus the first (and every) opportunity they get (and to lots of DC insider applause). I did find it curious that Biden and Powell would make the comment right before Obama goes on his scheduled emergency break and before Obama's Big Brother television appearence. Very manipulative and very curious.

Rocco

Rich

The US helping Israel might explain Biden's remarks to his base. If it really comes down to it, will we stand by and watch Iran accomplish the Final Solution? If we don't help Israel, who will?

matt

rhody..point taken..that's what happens when you come in the middle of a conversation....

To a great extent, the Israelis flat out don't care....If it means Iran with nukes, they know that one mr Ahmedijad will make a deal with Hezbollah to drive one over the border from Jordan, Palestine, or lebanon..."no fingerprints", except one can detect the exact source of the fissionable material...

The Israelis will never let it get to that point. period. They will not risk their existence on the sweet blandishments of a two faced politician who has already been caught lying too many times.

Supposedly, Bush already denied the Israelis approval to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites. If Bush is transitioning out and Obama in, it will be a window of opportunity, as Israel will figure that under an Obama administration, the US will no longer act as their guardian of last resort. 80 days of support by the US under Bush is preferable to being sold out beforehand by Obama. Just stating a case.....Biden may well know the score on that one along with Albright.

C'mon, my liberal Jewish friends, pull that lever for Obama and watch a 2nd Holocaust....you fools....

I am so tired of the socialist illuminati liberals' lying. Let's get rid of them by voting McCain-Palin.
