Sue - I think JMH had picture links in her comments a few days ago. I can't remember which thread.

Sue: Here is the thread - LUN - scroll down for Cruise Reports from JMH. There are photo links.

Jane

I think JMH has promised to post the pix at "cruise control". However no one is home yet, so you are just gonna have to wait. Yesterday a bunch of us were snorkling in the Bahamas at Half Moon Cay which is under consideration for the JOM island. Lots of pretty fish under the water.

The cruise was full of republican celebrities. I had dinner with Jay Nordlinger and Bill McGurn who was a Bush speechwriter. He was great. While at sea we had 5 hours a panels a day and either a cocktail party or a cognac and cigar smoker at night. We changed tables every night so we got to meet all sorts of people, each one more interesting than the next. And the JOMers had their own get togethers before during and after.

sbw

Puk, Jason said, "Nobody. Cares." Which you took to mean the villains of whom we speak are irrelevant.

Au contraire. They are relevant.

But Jason's self analysis "Nobody. Cares." speaks to the point. He does not care. He should, but he does not know enough to care and cannot think the consequences through well enough to care.

The problem is Jason. And, unfortunately, Jason only learns from the very short horizons of personal experience.

PeterUK

"Which you took to mean the villains of whom we speak are irrelevant."

No,actually I didn't.The trick is always use a rebuttal to progress the narrative.I pointed out what he didn't care about were dangerous scum.

RichatUF

Rick-

You're probably right that it is a per pixel rate. I really don't get the Axelturfers. Yea, they won the Presidency with Alinsky tactics and billionaires money!!! They can go out and spread the "hopenchange" to a more receptive audience though, I've got canned goods and ammo to inventory. I've heard their gospel before and know the destination it leads.

They have most of the political power in this country with a compliant press, why do they even need to bother with a right-leaning blog? What-leadership in a dangerous, violent world with challenging domestic and international economic problems isn't found in cheap slogans or ivy league New Left textbooks.

Sue

Thanks!

PD

But, bottom line, I believe Obama was born in Hawaii. It would be nice if he'd validate that.

He doesn't have to. The state of Hawaii has already done so.

This issue goes nowhere.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

PD: Although you may be right that the issue goes nowhere, to rely on a dem. state bureaucrat as reliable at this stage seems iffy, at best, based on what we've seen in Ohio.

PD

Sara,

Well, okay. But overturning this certification requires actual evidence that the thing's fake. Is there any such evidence?

MayBee

My pool is full of soot.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Well, okay. But overturning this certification requires actual evidence that the thing's fake. Is there any such evidence?

But isn't that the point. No one has produced a legitimate certificate. All we have is the "word" of some state bureaucrat that one exists in the file. Why won't Obama authorize the release? He was in Hawaii, he could easily have had a huge photo op going to the Recorder's office and ordering and obtaining a file copy, with the press looking on. But he didn't and he hasn't produced such a certified copy. Why?

When I legally changed my name back to my maiden name, I had to produce my birth certificate to the DMV to obtain a new driver's license and to Social Security to have my name changed on those records and again at my bank to change my name on my account. I've had to send proof to credit card companies to change my name on various credit cards. Why does Obama get away with not having to produce such documentation/verification? They told me at both SS and the DMV that the rules/law had changed with the Patriot Act and that everyone now has to prove who they are with certified documents. I guess this is another case where The One is above the law.

kim

Sure, PD. Show me.
============

clarice

Thew girls are back! Yeah! Will check out everything.

MayBee, sorry to hear that. I've a friend who just moved into a grand palace in Mendocito that they're taken 203 years to build. On the fire map she appears 500 yeds from the conflagaration but she said yesterday the house was untouched yet. I'm sure there's ash and soot and fire stink everywhere though.

MayBee

I'm sure there's ash and soot and fire stink everywhere though.

Oh, that is such a shame. It is a beautiful area, and a fire leaves an eerie kind of blight behind it for a long while.
Did you see the aerial views of that fire on tv? It looked like dozens of bonfires in a sea of black, and each of the fires was a beautiful home. I wish her luck.
On the local news yesterday, they said they were getting a lot of calls from people wondering if Oprah's house was safe.

centralcal

PD: BHO was probably born in Hawaii. But, I also agree with Sara and Kim about not trusting, believing some Dem bureaucrat about anything relating to his awesomeness. Probably just ain't good enough for me. He has proven himself to be a blatant liar (Ayers, Wright relationships, among many things).

MayBee

I believe Obama was born in Hawaii, and I believe Hawaii has his birth certificate on file (and it is legal).
What I don't believe is that everything is or was on the up-and-up about that certificate he gave to Kos. There were just too many odd circumstances surrounding its release, and we know the Obama camp is comfortable lying in their 'fight the smears' efforts.

clarice

***2-3 years****

Yes, MayBee, and I expect that it'll be years of rebuilding everywhere and well--it's a beautiful area which has fone thru this stuff before and I suppose in time it'll be even more full of super rich folks because the cost of fire insurance will have risen so much only Oprah and people like that will be able to afford it.

Some years ago I had the notion of bldg a small vacation cabin in Malibu and boy am I glad I did not..

kim

What is the count, now, six different state agencies went after Joe the Plumber? Sorry, PD, I'm not taking the word of the Hawai'ian official. We know the COLB put up on the Fight the Smears site is hokum. What else is hokum? Frankly, we don't know.

And with respect to the Ayer's case, we know Obama is a facile liar. "Just some guy in the neighborhood', sure.

Why was the COLB the first thing up on his 'Fight the Smears' site? Funny. And not haha, either, it's peculiar.
=============================

MayBee

I would like it if you built a small vacation cabin in Malibu. I could check in on it from time to time when you are back home. You know, as a favor to you. :-)

Pofarmer

Sara,

Well, okay. But overturning this certification requires actual evidence that the thing's fake. Is there any such evidence?

It's possible to have a Hawaaiian birth certificate even if you weren't neccessarily born in Hawwaii. It's in Bergs documents.

clarice

You know, MayBee, you'd be the first person I'd call on.
Seriously, I found some "buildable" lots and then found out they were almost 90% and would require very expensive piling. Then I realized that I'd be hit up for building road and maintaining it and it'd be only one lane on top of a steep hill. After I passed, Malibu got into a fight with the Coastal Commission and no permits were granted for years--if ever (I am not sure when or it that was resolved). What I did find out was the enormous " scenic easement" tax scams going on there which permit the very rich to write off large swaths of their investment by donating the mandatory but unbuildable portions of their lots to "environmental" groups ostensibly for trails and animal habitats.

clarice

**almost 90 degrees--that is, perpentdicular******

clarice

**perpendicular**(I have to stop even trying when my cat's marching across the keyboard)

Crew v1.0

When you are Bill Ayers, speaking truth to power means bombing the Pentagon, but it would be wrong to question his patriotism, and McCarthy-like to ask a single blessed thing about his relationship with The Celebrity.

When John McCain associates himself with Joe the Plumber, then Ted Strickland's gremlins and gnomes spring into action, and illegally access your private records for purely political purposes using State of Ohio resources -- but that is not an abuse of power, and really, Joe should have simply kept his mouth shut when the One came around Joe's neighborhood with the media horde in tow.

I have a feeling that speaking truth to power will not be valued quite so highly when the power is manifested in the person of The One, rather than in W.

Captain Hate

I guess I should feel fortunate that Oblahblah talked with JTP rather than me, because I thought Joe's questions and comments were rather tame compared to what I'd have presented to Teleprompter Jeebis. A useless twitch like Strickland would've come up empty trying to sic his bureaucratic simpletons on me since I probably have a higher security clearance than Barry Bongwater could qualify for (faint self-praise there but still...) and I'd sure as hell have gathered some ravenous legal sharks to supplement my retirement at the state's expense. Still that's a few minutes of "fame" I could do without...

clarice

This is a translation from an item in a Norwegian newspaper:
"In the major Norwegian Newspaper "Verdens Gang" a discussion group expose sentral Norwegian figures as KGB contacts: Threads mention a political veteran Thorvald Stoltenberg, the father of the Norwegian prime minister, as a close KGB friend for years. Then former parlamentary leader of the Labour party (which now is in Government), Einar Foerde, code named DUDIN in KGB. Even the prime minister of Norway, Jens stoltenberg, got his code name in KGB, just before he took part in th body that should outline the long term Defence program of Norway, in 1992. The present prime ministers code name was STEKLOV, and his contact officer in the KGB was KGB major, Kirillov, under supervision of KGB general Serebrjakov.

Terje Roed Larsen, known from the Oslo process, had his closest contact in the Middle East as a KGB agent for decades, Fahti Arafat, brother of the PLO leader. This individual is mentioned also by the top KGB defector, Oleg Gordievski, now living in London.

Student activists in Norway point out that the entire Oslo process may be a setup by Kremlin top Yevgeni Primakov. The same Primakov mananged to hide away also in the very sensitive role as adviser for Saddam Husseins in his actions in the first and may be even in the second Gulf War, claim the students, who has diving into Russian archive material and talked to defectors. Now, they warn againt what they consider to be far to close ties between the existing Government members in Norway and Russian intelligence officers, not only about Mide East questions, but also when it comes to Artic oil and gas challenges.

I'll stay in touch with those involved in the tracking activity as mentioned above. Feel free to ad up additional information."

Regarding the legitimacy of the COLB, it's disturbing that the Selective Service registration of O seems suspect according to Debbie Shussel (sp?).

Have any of you with knowledge of the Selective Service paperwork evaluated her evidence?

Angie Smith

What does it say about your character if you hang around with those who have no character? Wouldn't you avoid Ayers at all costs or at the very least denounce him and his rhetoric, especially his comments in 2001? What about his stomping on our American flag? We should all be ashamed of this illuminati socialist President who was elected. He, along with Ayers, don't care at all what happens to this country. And the rest of us who saw through him and didn't vote are going to pay for your sheer stupidity!

kim

countusout.wordpress.com aggregates all the actions about Obama's birth certificate pretty well.
=====================================

clarice

Sorry, kim. I began reading and first up was an appeal to readers to write a letter expressing their conerns to the Justices of the SCOTUS. Stupid.

I'm passing on the rest.

kim

Yeah, it is probably a big waste of time, however, the point that his eligibility remains in question, and thus his legitimacy, is a good one. The Supreme Court ought to act to sustain the Constitutional requirement, and, for the good of the Republic, lay this question of legitimacy to rest. It would be an easy thing to do.

If he's eligible, fine, show it to all. If he's not, well, not so fine.
====================================

kim

Also, if enough people write the justices, they may see validating his eligibility as a useful exercise of their prerogative, if not a demand of their duty.
====================================

clarice

None of those letters will reach their desks. The notion is highly improper and ridiculous.
To suggest it is to telegraph that the author has no idea about which he is speaking.

kim

These people are frustrated by the transparency of Obama's lies and the opacity of the reporting by the media. It is not improper or ridiculous to cry out for authority to manifest itself.
====================================

clarice

Yes, it is when the "authority" you are reaching out to is the SCOTUS which is not after all, supposed to be like Dancing with the Stars, a body influenced by public opinion as opposed to --like, you know--the law and facts.

kim

Please do not try to tell me that the Supreme Court is unresponsive to public opinion.

The compelling argument, from my point of view, is that for very little effort, the Supremes can completely lay to rest a major question about the legitimacy of Obama's regime. The question of Bush's legitimacy has haunted this nation for eight years. I don't believe the Supreme Court should ignore an opportunity to exorcise the nation of this ghost.
=======================================

kim

I'm not trying to argue that the Supreme Court should respond to public opinion instead of the law and the facts. Life tenure was given by the founders in an attempt to insulate them from the exigencies of public opinion, an effort which is necessary but not sufficient.
=========================================

kim

Besides, merely as a matter of ego, and of jealousness over their position as a co-equal branch of government, the Supremes should not take lightly an attempt by this proposed executive to bluff them and us, which is what he has done so far.
====================================

kim

He's claiming he won the pot; we'd be foolish not to make him show his cards.
====================================

kim

We know he's a liar. He probably didn't get that from Obama Senior, who wasn't around to form his character. He met Soetero too late to form that part of his character. So who taught him to lie? Who else but his mother? So let's see his birth certificate.
==============================

clarice

Kim, I am afraid you are not impressing me with the quality of this argument.
In any event, I don't suppose the court will act.

If there is an impediment to Obama's taking the presidency, it seems that the state officials charged with certifying the election results may under some state laws be charged with determinig this, ot the lectors, but there is no provision in the law for the federal courts to do this.

kim

Which argument? There are several there. That the SC responds whether they mean to or not to public opinion or that they have an easy opportunity to settle arguments over legitimacy?
======================================

kim

I asked a very long time ago who has the authority and the responsibility to determine eligibility by the natural born requirement. So far, I've not heard an answer. It is inconceivable to me that there is no provision for this Constitutional requirement to be satisfied. Even if there is no provision in law, there is in the Constitution, the protection and enforcement of which is supposed to be the bailiwick of the Supreme Court.
======================================

kim

I just had a funny thought. Maybe it's in the province of the Executive. Wouldn't that be funny, Bush, the old poker player, asking to see the hand just as Obama rakes in the pile.
====================================

kim

By the way, I don't think the Court will act either, but I very much think they ought to do so. What's the downside if they do? What's the downside if they don't, and he's not eligible?
=========================

kim

Let me pose the argument this way, clarice. Do you believe that Obama should prove his eligibility?
===========================

kim

Do you believe he has?
==============

kim

If you believe he has, how has he done so?
============================

kim

If you believe he has not, what should we do now? I'm gonna laugh if the answer to this one is to appeal to the Supreme Court.
===================================

kim

Now, about the other argument about public opinion. Let me explain just how the Supreme Court always responds to public opinion. If it were only a matter of law and the facts, there would be one 9-0 decision after another. That there is a division of opinion is because the Justices respond differently to the arguments of the opposing sides, which are public opinions distilled and refined.
====================================

clarice

Kim--there's so much wrong with your posts, it would take far too long to respond.
Forgive me. Life is short.

Now on climate warming--I tip my hat to you.
Have you seen this BTW?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=A1YourView&xml=/opinion/2008/11/16/do1610.xml>Al Gore's Wizard--wrong again

kim

I was pretty sure I was wrong, clarice. You want to know something funny? I just came from reading that Telegraph article. Someone at Watts Up had linked it. It really is damning what has happened at GISStemp.
==================================

kim

If anyone is bored, and wants to read a freshly minted piece of classic literature, go to the 'GISS releases (suspect) October 2008 data' thread at Watts Up With That and read the 5 or 6 comments made by 'Chris' as the realization of this massive foul-up dawned on him. His comments start at (14:58:07) and end at (16:29:29) on November 11. I'll never forget his horselaugh as he figured out that they'd just put September readings on for October.

In the resulting brouhaha, it has been revealed that NASA only uses a quarter of a person(0.25 FTE) to insure the integrity of the temperature numbers. And on this data hang policy decisions worth trillions of dollars. James Hansen has outlived his uselessness.
================================

bad

Kim, we had a group of college kids bunk with us over night. During breakfast they talked about global warming and how everyone knows we are in a period of cooling now. They snarked that warming apologists claimed that global warming caused global cooling.

kim

Fah! Chris's comments are on November 10.
=============

kim

I'm surprised they didn't say that even kim doesn't know how long it is going to be cooling.
=========================

Elliott

Don't worry, kim, I will do my part to circulate that expression widely.

kim

I've been beating this drum since August of '07. If this cooling is more than just temporary, the urge to encumber carbon is going to get deadly, and I'm not talking about just a few score of people. Millions of people on the margin will die if energy is made more expensive artificially. Many will die anyway, but the outcome could get truly horrific.

Yet, on we march, because the politicians see big money and big power, and are enthralled by the message they get from some of the scientists, who by now must know they are participating in a corrupt endeavour.
============================

kim

Thanks, Elliott, I'm not sure you can do more than I have. Actually, I'm pretty sure we are heading for 20 or more years of mild cooling because the Pacific Decadal Oscillation has flipped to its cooling phase. If the sun is up to monkey business, the cooling could get dramatic and last for a hundred years. No one know what the sun is going to do, though. Not even Leif Svalgaard knows for sure.
=======================================

kim

Speaking of climate, Elliott, I just finished 'Summer Lighting' and am in the middle of 'Heavy Weather'. I'm blessed with a poor memory for plots so after a few years I can reread any of the Master's works as if they were brand new to me. Of course, all the rest of his technique is amusing day after day after day. One critic claims his plots are all the same anyway, so maybe it's not a matter of memory.
=================================

kim

Summer Lightning.
===========

Elliott

I have no idea whether he was responsible for the plot summary that appeared on the back cover of my edition of "Luck of the Bodkins" but it sounds right, "[name of character]* had something on his mind: a dangerous condition for one of his mental capacity."

Elliott

As it involves a transatlantic voyage, it seemed an appropriate work to mention, though I hope none of the JOMers encountered any querulous steward claiming to be "a dogged victim of inexorable fate."

glasater

And here I was going to go back and re-read Sue Grafton's murder mysteries to get through heavy days ahead.
Might have to switch to Wodehouse:-)

Pagar

It seems to me that there is something wrong with a person who is not willing to show that he meets the very basic qualification to be president of the US when all it would involve is showing a US birth certificate. The fact that one would hire very high priced lawyers to have the requests thrown out of court instead of just producing the document seems to admit that he can't produce the birth certificate IMO. When his high priced lawyers seem to have a relationship with CAIR, that to me is really troubling.

kim

Like I've said, Pagar, the Supreme Court can still call his bluff....and I don't see why they wouldn't want to do so.
===========================================

Pofarmer

Well, Cheif Justice John Roberts has to swear him in. I'd think that the Cheif Justice would want to be sure the Candidate was legally qualified.

I dunno, I remember in one thread that somebody said the DNC was responsible for vetting the candidates. That doesn't give me much comfort. I also remember that in the response to Bergs suit, there was something in there about facts "embarrassing to the DNC" or something to that effect. Look McCain produced his birth certificate and medical records. Sarah Palin produced a medical summary. Why can't Obama buck up and provide his information? Is he just so above it all? The guy is really grating on me, and he's not even POTUS yet.

limbaughsucks

Do you really care about Bill Ayers? Can't you come up with any new material? Jeez. GET OVER IT!. Unless of course you want to document and report on Gordon Liddy and his pal john McCain. Or maybe the Palin's and the Alaska Independence party.. Oh that's right, you wouldn't want to tarnish your reputation by being fair and balanced. So glad you guys lost.

checkit

Pofarmer,

You are an idiot. Obama will have to have a full background check done by the FBI, in order to receive top secret clearance. Do you think they just give those away? Have you ever had a background check? I have and trust me, it's more than thorough. STOP with the conspiracy theory. It only makes all you hillbillies that voted republican look even dumber than you already do. But cheer up, Joe the Non-Plumber is coming out with a book. Essentially it's an American success story about how to get famous by being a complete idiot, lying and sucking up to the ignorant.

Pagar

There is no way Obama is going to pass a full background check by the FBI.

kim

I'm pretty sure POTUS trumps need for security clearance. He won't need one, the more is the pity.

Hey, ls, are you a little sensitive about Bill Ayers? I hope Obama embraces him because it will be just one more chink in the credibility wall.
==========================

MikeH

Limbaughsucks: "Do you really care about Bill Ayers? Can't you come up with any new material? Jeez. GET OVER IT!."

Repeating from above (re: Diana Oughton), "Her body was identified Tuesday by the fragment of a little finger found in the debris. Two other bodies, 60 sticks of dynamite, 30 blasting caps and four dynamite packs wrapped with heavy nails were also found."

Heck no, nothing to care about there. Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to know why Bill Ayres is still processing oxygen and introducing unaccomplished Chicago politicians to the world.

sophy

I will thank for my friends bringing me in this world. I am not regret to buy flyff penya .
