I don't have a thing to wear...
SINCE YOU ASKED: Yes, color me offended and excluded by Lowery's prayer to
....help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."
Well, Lowery is 87 and has seen a lot, including the probable collapse of the American race-grievance industry. But this was hardly the sort of post-racial note Obama could have wanted.
BET YOU CAN'T NAME THEM: A friend points out that Obama and his crack staff of speechwriters had even more trouble with that pesky Presidential oath - Obama's assertion that "Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath" doesn't add up. Yes, Obama is the forty-fourth President, but Grover Cleveland held both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth spots. Thus, only forty-three different Americans have taken the oath (See WaPo, AP, CBS). Well, forty-two after Chief Justice Roberts inadvertently DQ'ed Obama.
Lesley, I don't understand why she is waiting on the fashion help. She is old enough to remember the criticism of Hillary regarding fashion. Laura Bush was dissed pretty hard the first time around.
Surely she doesn't expect....

Ok, is anyone else seeing this problem? I have one thread on each tab, and the pages lined up on the Back/Forward queue. This thread has 3 pages. I can select page 3 and page 2, but not page one. I noticed this on a different thread earlier today -- I couldn't select the page immediately before the current page, but could go back to previous pages. It was broken from both directions -- I could not go back from a later page, nor forward from an earlier one if I was trying to get to that one page, while all the other pages worked fine.

You know Michelle has an incredible back. Maybe she should show that off. It would definitely take your eye away from (what did Soylent call it?) her rear.

The other problem I have found on Firefox is that if you start to comment but refresh before you post, your comment disappears if it is on a page break. Does that make sense?
I also noticed that people think typepad is eating comments but in reality the comment was posted on the Previous page.

I don't think we're going to be seeing a train on the 1st Lady again any time soon!
Posted by: JM Hanes | January 21, 2009 at 12:43 AM
While we all wish it were otherwise, challenges will continue to plague our nation throughout Barack Obama's presidency. There still will be racial issues like Jena Six, tragic police-community exchanges like the recent Oakland, Calif., case and the Sean Bell shooting in Queens, N.Y., severe economic hardship, and a broken education system. But I firmly believe that President Obama -- with America's help -- can make significant strides in all of these areas. In fact, they are all related.
Some believe that the struggle for fairness and equity ended with the election of Barack Obama as president. It did not. But we can make great strides toward that lofty goal by helping our president, and by our president hungering, as I know he will, to be the last American president of an unequal nation.
Answers that question... LUN

Obama knew the old preacher was going to make that racist statement. There's no way they let him go to the podium without checking out what he planned to say. This is how Obama operates -- he makes all sorts of contradictory statements and his supporters only hear the one with which they agree. So the hopeNchangers heard the rhetoric of union, and the racistsofcolor saw Obama smile after that racist poem and they knew he was a "brothah."

I think, just like Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar, we ought to just go ahead and rename a month "Obama." I suggest October, as in "August, September, Obama, November" etc. See, it already rolls right off your tongue, and since the 2 Caesars already screwed up the months by making (Sept)ember (the 7th month) become the ninth, and (Oct)ober (the eighth month) become the 10th, renaming it Obama will restore a nice kind of balance. Plus the Roundtabler's' at CNN (No Bias No Bull---catchy slogan that!) can spend the next decade figuring which other Dem politicians to exalt to September, November and December. Oop, tingly sensation up my leg...gotta' go now.

Speaking of cannon fire in DC startling the locals. In "American Rifle", it mentions how about 1863, Lincoln was given a few new prototype rifles for potential production for the troops. He took 2 aides and walked out front of the White House a few blocks and started target practice aiming towards the area where the Washington Monument now stands. A Sergeant and some troops come dashing up to tell whoever was shooting to knock it off, as at the time it was a 'no no' in DC, but then seeing it's the President, they sort of sheepishly hem and haw and Lincoln treats them quite decently and respectfully, but continues blasting away till he has a decent evaluation of the firearm.

Thanks Ann..
I did some research and found that Chuckie was using this back in 2007 as a jibe at the Bush budget for 2008... I doubt that they would drop this as it has been a way to earmark and show their constituents in "backwater USA" that they are getting something from their congresscritter. And I wouldn't doubt for a minute that locales aren't looking for ways to shove tax increases down our throats, too. Can't cut the bureauocracy down a few layers but we can cut your garbage service, close your libraries and endanger your houses unless you get with the program and give us more $$.
The city of Atlanta is closing fire stations which is increasing response times and such. Layoffs of middle "management" are off the table, but the "face of government" personnel ie fire, police, pot hole fillers are being laid off. The arts funding is intact, too. Insanity...

The game is afoot, then! Tiger is awesome. I am not a fan of FIGLAM Phil. I am a fan of Villegas and Kim, also. I can't wait for a Kim v Tiger finish... both are intense and it will be interesting to see if Kim cracks. I'm not so sure he will. He reminds me of the young guns in the WSOPoker. Brash. But he is amazingly more steady than FIGLAM in the nerves department.
Tiger tries to stay politically neutral. I give him a pass on the appearance. It is a boost to his First Tee program, too, and he probably felt he needed to say something. He kept his remarks mostly to an appreciation of the military.
Would O dare to play in a pro-am? It would expose his game for all to see. I find it hard to believe that he is more than a duffer of the worst order... and he wouldn't want the ridicule.
Have you seen this?

When they showed the first shots of Michelle in her ball gown, my very first reaction was blurting outloud, "good Lord, it's a white bedspread." I don't know which got to me more, the fact that it was white or that it looked like an old bedspread. I think the white. So wrong on so many levels.

Racism is defined as "discrimination or prejudice based on race", and clearly Rev. Lowery's remarks were racist. "And when white will embrace what is right" plainly infers that white people haven't done right yet, no play on words or their meaning, it's what he said. There's a math principle that says if A=B, and B=C, then A=C. If the statement isn't racist, then one should be able to substitute black, red, or yellow for white. That would give the following "And when black will embrace what is right". Hmmm! No black clergyman would ever utter that because it's patently racist!
I know Rev. Lowery has endured racism in America, but he needs to understand the effect of his blame is spiritually crippling to blacks themselves! Obama's white mother and grandparents raised him, when will they begin to embrace what is right?
Slavery of Africans by Africans and Muslims existed in Africa long before the United States was founded; and still exists in Africa today!! If Obama is proof of anything, it's that our country had racism in it's past, but that a black man was elected to the highest office in this country, and couldn't have done it without white voters! When will whites begin to embrace what is right? We began in 1776; securing our freedom from England, fought a civil war to abolish slavery where over 250,000 white Americans died, and black and white American soldiers have been preserving those liberties for over 130 years!
I just watched a commencement speaker in Atlanta praise America, "the greatest country on this planet"! He was black, from Haiti, and suffered attrocities that would make Rev. Lowery blush, or possibly think about his poor condemning choice of words! The "race card" that Obama's election made void needs to be abolished, black's now have the validation of their freedom, the price is one must now stop blaming all that's wrong in your community on whites, it's the price of freedom!!
