Jane

"Jane- have we heard a report about yesterday's Fun with Dick and Jane?"

Maybee,

I liked it. Amy said I was a tad too aggressive. We talked about week one for O, closing Gitmo, the bailout, Caroline Kennedy, Geithner, Cape Wind (Ted Kennedy v Deval Patrick and what side Obama will take - Dick's response "I'm friends with the Kennedy's" - he says that every week. Followed by "Ted's Dead"), Corruption, the usual actors, Barney Frank and his bailout of One United, the subpoenas of Rahmbo, Axelrod, etc, Blago, and Sal Dimasi the speaker of the MA house who is the 3rd democrat speaker in a row to be indicted.

The recorder didn't record for the first 45 minutes and my server (in Arkansas) has been down due to an ice storm, so I probably won't put up the last 20 minutes, as the juice was in the beginning.

Thank you for asking!

Neo

You probably have heard of "security theater".

This "stimulus bill" is an exercise in "economic security theater"

The politics of fear continues.

narciso

Problem is I can't do on Firefox, I have to import it from Internet Explorer. A point on this guy, Effendi X, since his classification
precludes identification. What the line. "it was worse than a crime, it was a mistake.
"Well, this fellow has likely compromised many operations in the region, and in the clandestine services in general.

clarice

Narciso, we don't know if the report was true or not. We don't know if he did this deliberately or was just terribly flawed if he did do it. ut if he did do it, it's a major problem for us.

Pagar

From Narciso's LUN

Obama Tells Arabia's Despots They're Safe

My guess is it's not just "Arabia's despots that are safe". IMO, Any terrorist that opposes the US feels safe today. Whether they are in Cuba, North Korea, Russia or any other location. The people who do not/can not feel safe today should be those who support a free America.

BobS

pagar...if he ends strikes into pakistan, then we'll know for certain - especially after he supported invading pakistan. now thats really putting the lives of american soldiers at risk

E. Nigma

Of course they're safe. And he (Obama) will try to throw the nascent democracy in Iraq under the bus too, because that democracy thing is a bad idea in the Middle East.

5 years ago one of my wife's Democratic relatives was crapping about Bush and Iraq, to the tune of "all those boys will have died for nothing." And now, he may just turn out to be right.
Change we can believe in.

JM Hanes

O.K., narciso is doing yeoman's work on the big issues, so I'll go back to slogging through the "American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009" (gag). Note the NewCool lingo: subsidies are now investments.

This beast is the Democrats' entire wish list rolled into recovery. It doesn't just include almost everything they've already tried and failed to get through Congress the usual way, it's got things that failed after they actually got them passed. This time around, they don't even have to explain themselves! Anyone who can manage to read the bill will recognize Division A, Title IX:

SEC. 6205. STIMULUS FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT LENDING.

In order to avoid turning the thread into a hanging hotlink you can "read the stimulus" here:

http://readthestimulus.org/index.php

You can find the Republican's apparent alternative plan at the same site. Alas, per usual, when a bill consists of amending another bill, or previous legislation, it's almost impossible to figure out what it really means. If Republicans don't take a stand against the whole packaged agenda with their own identifiable plan they'll have nothing left to stand on at all in 2010 -- even if the bloom is off the rose.

Republicans could also be capitalizing on Obama's weaknesses. There's a reason he has consistently tried to claim other people's legislation and accomplishments as his own. He produces nothing, he's the salesman! I doubt Obama really knows what's in Pelosi's bill, himself, and his condom quashing gives Republicans a perfect opening, if they want to look like they're supporting the Prez. They could be going after Pelosi & Co, for subverting the NewCool Uniter's objectives and the Urgency of Now.

Republicans need a a high profile salesman of their own. So far, Cantor appears to be the only one with an iota of potential charisma, and IMO, that's the Republicans' most debilitating deficit.

Limbaugh actually was more lucid when he was a drug addict. If America ever did 1% of what he wanted us to do, then we’d all need pain killers.”

I wonder if the CIA/Algeria scandal is the one Woodward was referring to?

By the way, apparently Obama also overturned Bush's definition of terrorists and they will now be considered enemy combatants.

Enlightened

I don't think this CIA scandal is what Woodward was referring to - this guy was in the CIA - Hadley had to have heard allegations - so this will be a Blame Bush/Cheney story -

I think the Blago scandal, or something Chicago-esque is what Woodward meant - Blago is being handled with kid gloves, he is being allowed to poison the jury pool at will, the Democrats cannot shut him up, and as suspected, the tapes are crap and Fitz is just buying time trying to trap someone, anyone into the minutest lie to justify his blathering at the presser and this bullshit case.

In any case, it's popcorn time - the monkeys are running the zoo and poo-flinging is the current favorite pastime.

Seriously - this whole admin is completely out of control. Scary.

BobS

we have folks in here whom know more about the military and its inner workings far better than me. but in sports as in the military, its best to know one's adversary as best as possible. if this analogy is accurate, its disturbing to see how little members of the left know about conservatives/GOP...let alone waht they perceive about america's enemies.....for a party who's spoken so much about how unintelligent the oppostite side of the argument is, well......

Jane

"Republicans need a a high profile salesman of their own"

Might I suggest Sarah. How to import her is the issue.

BobS

errr, jane...our sara...or alaska's sarah?

BobS

but jane....its almost as if so many of our best communicators and those whom convey ideas best will not serve....huckabee: tv.....forbes: tv.......gingrich: anything, but being nailed down to one thing......steele: thank goodness he desires the chair, but some stiff will probably get it......romney: will do TV spots, but.....palin: love her, mean it and one can only pray for her rising star continues.....govenors thankfully numerous besides palin - jindal, pawlenty, sanford

nikei

Acorn is how he sued over loan criteria at banks, forcing free, I mean equal, mortgages for people who get bailed out of foreclosure based on condemning the property that can't happen so ACORN gets the refurbish contract and the foreclosures are stopped, property refurbished at the bank's expense and the person who owns the property gets more free government money- no money into the property but yours. The garbage mortgages were these and that's what the HOBO is going to say he bailed out with the government right after bailout promises were made - selling them to foreign banks.

narciso

for the time being, we're just going to settle for her message at CPAC, any reports
of her budgetary battles (which of course will be distorted by the AD News, amplified by the MSM )and efforts facilitated by her PAC. Cantor's ok, as a spokesman, he got
'Gingriched' in the TARP negotiations, but that was a screwup all around.

Woodward, that was the other slimy weasel I was thinking off, who brought the Crawford
bouquet of Quahtani's torture, among his other presents.

Pagar

does anybody besides me see this outreach crap to the GOP as just for MSM headlines

The way I see it, what ever does not meet the expectations of the left will be blamed on the GOP. The story will be that the program they are talking about would have succeeded in its original Democrat plan, but the adjustments necessary to appease the Republicans will be what caused it to fail, IMO. The way Obama has treated every thing Pres Bush did to keep America safe, should forwarn any Republican, but it won't.

BobS

we are on the same page narisco...my larger point is that the GOP's biggest stars do not serve.....we need some of that star power to take on some of the dem thugs in the senate...i for one would love a rudy vs. schumer death match......huckabee takes down either candidate in arkansas.....bush beats anyone in fla.....steele if he's not gop chair should take on murkowski...and why in hell did forbes run for president

that the GOP's biggest stars do not serve ...

Maybe the current system is too much of a meat grinder. Perhaps it consititues a "hostile environment". Could be there is a tendancy to "blame the victims".

Ok, so I think the GOP constituency needs to follow up with phone calls to Reid and Pelosi - just swamp them - for days - and tell them what we think of their PPOC - Partisan Piece Of Crap.

Pagar

,perhaps they would like to pay tax ?

Obama seems to have a hard time finding friends that pay taxes. I mean how hard can it be to find a person qualified to fill out the SE tax form properly, especially after he had already signed a paper from his workplace saying he was being given extra money to pay the tax? I'd be willing to bet there are Americans that understand how to fill out that form, that were not even asked to run the Treasury Dept.

IMO, Obama doesn't care much about people who pay taxes, to the US at least. Now, if you're talking about contributions, yes-those are very important to him. Furthermore, one doesn't even have to give one's real name. Mickey Mouse or any other name one wants to use is OK, it's the contribution that is important.

Not one republican vote in the House for the Obama/Pelosi/Reid payback bill - and 10 democrats defected.

"I'm thinking of leaving JMH for Eric Cantor."

MayBee, can you explain? I am confused.

Our JMH aka JM Hanes (who is a gal)?

Sue

Republicans need to start hitting the airwaves. Any camera they see, any microphone in the area, listing off the various pork related items in this sham of a recovery act. I suspect the support for this bill would drop considerably if they knew half of what was in it.

Sue

bgates,

Even better question than mine. They can't know, unless they wrote it themselves because they haven't had time to read it.

Sue

Somewhere, and I don't remember where I was to give the person credit, but the suggestion was made that DeMint read the entire bill in the senate. They need to draw attention, and lots of it, to what is in the bill. And quickly. I think they have a rule, unless it has been suspended, where they can do that

MayBee

Our JMH aka JM Hanes (who is a gal)?

Working off the fictional elements, we discussed in the previous thread, although more focused on Kenya, not Indonesia, is an analysis of the late Updike's novel the Coup

matt

PUK;

the problem is that first, we all have skeletons in our closets. "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" etc, except the meia feel they can cast stones all day long with no substantiation.

Second, some of the powerful fall too much in love with their power, viz Gingrich. Third, the media controls the battlezone. The internet has changed some of this, but the mass media reach the masses. The educated are a minority, and even then can be pretty damned dumb about a lot of things.

Who needs to be tarred and feathered, frankly? The political class is, for the most part, crooks, swindlers, and former high school class officer suckups. Very few Churchills or Thatchers or Reagans or Jeffersons, and none on watch right now. We're reaching the bottom of the barrel.

A good flick @ a year ago was Idiocracy. It pretty much describes the dumb down principles at work today.

Pagar

I think one way to stop these votes where no one has time to read the bill would be to require each Senator/Representative to sign the bill under the AYE or NAY COLUMN. This would do two things. It wold slow down the amount of useless laws being passed, and it would allow a challenger to say - Look you signed that you knew what you were doing. Look at all the web sites where one is required to agree to the site fine print before completing the sign up.

Enlightened

And so I leave you today with a very sobering observation~

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for
without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that
they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going
to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

A Thatcher or a Churchill, certainly not in Britain, although Michael Portillo for all his faults was kind of impressive. And Blair
despite the opinion of some here, certainly rates close to a Hugh Gaithskill. Although hard to say, which Churchill the liberal back bencher, the victim of the Dardanelles campaign, the scapegoat for the inflation of the 20s as Exchequer, the loser of the Conservative Party contest in '29 or the lion in winter. As for the American analogue to Thatcher circa 1975, well you know my vote on that. With some resemblances
to Teddy Roosevelt and even a touch of Lincoln. In terms of facing great challenges

O.K.

This is incredibly interesting. I'm on a conference call with feed back to Blaine Luetkemeyer.

O.K.

A caller actually told our congressman to "Fuck off and vote for the Stimulus package."

Unbeleivable.

Mel

clarice-

Impeachment? definite conviction. Only one thing dumber than our governor, and that's the majority of the legislature, Senate in particular.

Criminal trial? (IF it goes there) Jury pool's been stirred, so who knows? Gotta venue in mind? DC, perhaps, I hear there's a good conviction rate for the US Attorney there...

If they convict in the Ill. Senate, Mr. Fitzgerald's going to be a busy boy, because a chunk of his staff is in DC defending their own jobs at the DOJ. Neighbor (atty in Fitz's office) was dragged back to DC for an "interview". He used finger quotes, not me.

Extraneus

Thanks, Bob.

Mel

Pofarmer-

I always do what someone tells me when they request it like that.

OK, that was a lie.

Anybody race the caller to the disconnect? Little game I like to play with a**h)l$s. Makes it more interesting, as opposed to attempting to destroy a base unit with the handset. Less expensive too, I understand.

Extraneus

So what happens if he's convicted in the Senate but not in the criminal trial? (Of course they're idiots not to wait for the criminal trial, but that almost goes without saying.)

Mel

Extraneus-

LUN on Blagojevich's "plea" session if want.

clarice

Mel, that criminal case will have to be brought in Ill.

And I expect that "crazy" Blago is doing some of his own pre indictment poisoning of the well, something only Fitz normally gets to do .

Mel

Extraneus-

Blagojevich will have to wait for the actual sentence yet to be announced by the members of the Ill. Senate. The esteemed Ill. Senators will undoubtably break open a new box of crayons and begin crafting a serious set of punishments and voting themselves ponies (or harness racers, this is Illinois we're talking about).

In all honesty, I think he loses his Governorship, and there is a strong chance he might not be able to run for office again (Nope, I couldn't make that up. They're actually threatening him with that.) In Illinois, that is the ultimate in political ex-communication.

Extraneus

Taht looks like great fun, Mel. Looking forward to the youtube clips.

Pofarmer

Very interesting.

Even the Democrats calling in are pretty much against the Stimulus Package. They don't know what to do, and are looking to the govt for help, but I think even they are starting to realize that this isn't going to work. Well, except the one lady that though the FDR programs were great. However, I have to credit Congressman Luetkemeyer with bringing up the recent studies on the depression and the actual effects of those programs. The guy is pleasantly well informed and personalble. There may be hope for the GOP after all. Watch Blane Luetkemeyer.

Sue

Pagar

..apparentky holder agreed not to prosecute any cia folks for torture.

If anyone believes that, they are probably a good candidate for the guy selling ocean front property in North Dakota to talk to.

"Eric Holder has not made any commitments about who would or would not be prosecuted," the aide said via e-mail.

It is my belief that there will be hundreds of these trials. It costs the leftists nothing to prosecute-the taxpayer pays the bill. As the Libby and Stevens trials have already proven, Washington DC juries will convict anyone who they believe to be a Republican or a Republican supporter. What better way to destroy conservatives, or anyone who supports America?

Pofarmer

Luetkemeyer is all for increasing domestic energy production.

Pofarmer

Interesting.

No money in the Stimulus bill for Ethanol or Biodiesel.

Money for wind and solar though.

Only spend money on what you know you'll have to spend more money on.

Israel is telling their military officers to stay home or travel at their own discretion. They are being sued for war crimes and will be picked up if they leave the country. How soon before it happens here? And our country will give them up, instead of fighting for them. Sad days ahead, folks.
