Neo

The story circulating among Hill Republicans is that Gregg wasn’t notified about the Census matter before the announcement, and that he demanded of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel a few days ago that the decision be reversed. I'm told that Emanuel said he would get back to him, but Gregg heard nothing. So he requested a meeting with the president and said he couldn’t be part of the Obama administration.

This seems to be a pattern. Just ask General Zinni

narciso

This is my first attempt at a freestanding blog post, with credit due, in the nearly three years, how does it look, too apologetic no byzantine enough

Jane

We can only hope that Judd is meeting with Olympia, Arlen and Susan as we speak and letting them know what really goes on in the WH.

Jane

It looks fine

kim

Why Jane, fancy meeting you here. Someone please put up an end of thread link before we get to fifty comments. Much gracious.

So far, 7 dems have voted in the HOUSE against the BILL. 1 vote of present from the dems, 1 non vote

176 votes aginst by republicans, 2 non votes

bgates

Nancy's boys got their job done. 245-183 in the House. 7 dems voted against, the Republicans didn't lose anybody, and Nancy can make her flight.

Jane

So they are voting now so nancy can go on her winter vacation. Does she get to go in her private taxpayer-paid plane.

Had lunch with 3 of our local reps today. (out of 200 reps we have 16 republicans - in the whole state one was there today.)

SO the dem woman who represents a nearby district talked at length how she deserved her pay raise because it is so hard figuring out how to split up our money.

Clueless. Completely clueless.

One of the speakers went on about how hard the times were, but we have hope now that the administration has changed, and that is gonna solve everything.

It all took away my appetite.

Jane

Boy that's more dems than last time. I think we should give them all a quiz on the content.

bad

NO REPUBLICAN SUPPORT for PORKBILL in House

centralcal

Jane - thanks for the tip that we had a new thread. Off to check out Narciso's blog.

matt

good job, narciso!

centralcal

I am thrilled to hear that once again, the Republicans held together and refused to vote for this travesty!

MayBee

I wonder who was floating the pre-vote rumor 8 house Republicans were going to vote for the bill?

bad

Got you bookmarked, Narciso. Congratulations and Best Wishes for your new endeavor.

RichatUF

Weren't their supposed to be "blue dog" dems in marginally right leaning districts that would moderate the Pelosi faction?

Bet Soros et al are laughing their asses off at the dumbasses that believed that.

bad

Carl Cameron?

Neo

AP has it passing on a 246-183, with no Republican "yes" votes

Jane

Oh sorry narciso, I thought you were talking about formatting. Nice blog.

Enlightened

I bookmarked you Narciso ~ I like your style - kind of like reading someone's musings...

Thomas Collins

If the Obama/Reid/Pelosi troika continues its Western Europeanization of America, the next to resign may be Lady Liberty in New York Harbor. She will shrug and resign as the light of liberty is extinguished under the yoke of the leftist state.

I have to respectfully depart company from those JOMers who think Barack Hussein Obama is a tool for others. He is a ruthless leftist, and quite adept. He has moved America, in a few weeks, far closer to socialism than any Dem could have dreamed. His seeming missteps are irrelevant; by allowing Pelosi to draft the legislation, and by continuing to campaign on the resentment card, he gets what he wants while leaving the messy details to others. While MSM tut-tuts about how moderate the Obama Administration's foreign policy has been, Obama has moved America as close to a conciliatory internationalist position as is possible at the moment (hedging on European missile defense, grovelling language to the Persians, Biden's kissing Russian leaders' behinds).

On Monday, he will have the legislation he needs; the leftist camel's nose is under the tent of freedom, and so is one hump. Richardson, the "taxpaying challenged" former nominees and the one who made it to Treasury Secretary notwithstanding his tax foibles, the dustup over Gregg, the stammering at the Prez press conferences, Gibbs's horrible performances, these are mere details that are not going to derail the Zero Express unless GOPers find a unified voice and can use the media as Mr. Reagan did. They might start by focusing on one aspect at a time of Zero's Plan. Maybe call it the outrage of the day.

Notwithstanding my laments above, I am optimistic in the medium term. The Jacksonians are getting restless. And ultimately, American Leftists are no match for American Jacksonians. But it will get ugly for awhile.

Thanks Rick, Bad, Enlightened, Matt, Central

Narciso - blog looks okay, but you will need to correct your sentence breaks for new readers who may drop by.

We are all used to your odd breaks, but new readers won't be.

Congrats on doing a blog!

Sue

I have the same problem with narciso's blog as I do Hit's. I can't ever remember how to sign into those stupid accounts. Anyway, great blog narciso.

MayBee

Zoe Baird, Kimba Wood, Janet Reno, Bill Richardson, Judd Gregg,

He'll go for a Hispanic Business leader, and move the Census back to Commerce.
He will claim he is doing so to satisfy Republican's concerns, because he's all bipartisan like that.

DebinNC

Poster mrsalty at FR:

7 dems voted no,Bright(Al)Griffith(Al),Peterson(Mn),Defazio(Or),Minnick(Id),Shuler(NC),Taylor(,MS

Wasn't Minnick the Dem who came up with an alternative around $178B, which Pelosi wouldn't allow be heard? 43 Blue Dogs showed their true colors, and now own this albatross.

Topsecretk9

I'm told that Emanuel said he would get back to him, but Gregg heard nothing.

I knew it.

PDinDetroit

Gawd, listening to Pelosi makes me want to throw up, even without having the flu today.

Pelosi said Obama just passed the largest RELIEF package in history.

Back in the day, welfare was called RELIEF.

Topsecretk9

246-183 House Passes the Conference Report [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Seven Democrats voted against it.
One Democrat voted present.
Zero Republicans voted for it.

UPDATE: Two Republicans did not vote.

bad

Deb, the BlueDog vote is the bipartisan vote.

daddy

Here's my stab at trying to make sense of that sequence:

Zoe Baird, Kimba Wood, Janet Reno, Bill Richardson, Judd Gregg...Name 5 people that in 3 years can qualify as first time Homebuyers.

centralcal

bad: relief/welfare - you are so right, I remember it well. People were on relief . . . (if they were on the dole).

PDinDetroit

This RELIEF Bill, in its passing, was so important that FOX NEWS cut away to commercial for High School Musical 3.

bad

Zoe Baird, Kimba Wood, Janet Reno, Bill Richardson, Judd Gregg, RHAM EMANUEL

Rham goes to Commerce to oversee the census which puts to rest the legal issue of it reporting to the WH and Obama's troubles and screw-ups will no longer happen couse someone else will take over.

RichatUF

DebinNC-

They all did from the moment they let the Pelosi faction write the bill.

Pretty much over, does Reid even need 60 votes in the Senate not that the Dems would lose many if the GOP "moderates" bolted.

And wow would you look at that oil is rallying 10% and the DOW and S&P are down slightly.

Jane

He'll go for a Hispanic Business leader, and move the Census back to Commerce.

I don't think he's giving up on the census - he was smart enough to cozy up to the guy who could gerrymander Chicago for him early on, and he is not going to stop now. I bet you could find that somewhere in Alinsky's greatest hits.

MayBee

We should have a moment of silence at 5:00pm EST today to commemorate the moment the Gregg news was supposed to have been released.

RichatUF

I meant to post this earlier, but I wanted to post a link to Dept of Commerce et al v. U.S. House of Representatives et al in case anyone wanted to research the Obama Census power grab.

245 Americans just voted against America.

A couple of those who didn't vote are representatives from the Buffalo area. I will excuse them for going home to deal with the needs of their community after the tragic plane crash.

Rick Ballard

Rich,

Thanks for the link. It looks like Kennedy would have to overturn himself in order to switch away from the clear language regarding enumeration by actual count.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I am calling it the "Kill Grandma Bill."

bio mom

Here Here Thomas Collins!! I agree completely. Obama is what his history shows him to have always been: a far lefty. That combined with his hubris and the mask he wears to convince the country otherwise make him a very dangerous man.

Mary

Sara,

Having 3 adult children and no grandchildren it is the "Kill Mom & Dad bill".

Here's a comment from Tapper's blog

You Bush people have no credit to criticize what Obama for he has not done anything worse than Bush yet, at least for now.

So apparently O has decided to spend his presidency going directly to the people and bypassing the republicans. He doesn't need no stinking bi-partisanship. I guess if he keeps finding people houses and new jobs and pay raises, he will be okay.

RichatUF

Are the markets setting up for a sell on close? Got alot of news out there for a weekend: G7 meeting, an unknown Treasury plan, people will finally get to read porkulus...

Daddy

Comrades,

Anyone out there have a favorite edition of Das Kapitol they would recommend. I want to give my kids a step up in the Brave New World we have all just entered.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

Just got an email saying that over 450,000 have already signed the No Stimulus petition.

bad

We've already heard how much the Obama daughters love their new school.

How long before we start reading "news" articles about how disruptive it is to change schools at whatever age the girls will be in 4 years?

Extraneus

Good strategy, until he runs into another Joe the Plumber or Jane the Lawyer.

Topsecretk9

I keep seeing new things:

$140 million for volcano monitoring systems

$1.2 billion for "youth activities" (for "youth" up to 24 years old) ?????

$220 million for the International Boundary and Water Commission, U.S. and Mexico"

bgates

The stimulus bill isn't all bad.

Topsecretk9

Media starting to crack about Obama's tupperware like message manipulation machine...there were small grumblings in the way the Obama team treated the press like crap in comparison to Bush and McCain during the campaign, but they kept to a bare minimum in order to anoint the messiah

Now they're really getting pushed around and they're starting to squawk

Sara (Pal2Pal)

I just heard that the bill has all kinds of handwritten margin notes and strikeouts, add ins and no one is seeing exactly the same thing and no one has read it.

DrJ

LOL, bgates. You have to scroll quite a bit to find it.

JM Hanes

MayBee & RichatUF:

I'm probably going to be adding updates to my Gregg post & would like to hat tip your screen names along with JOM when I do, if that's OK with you. Wish I could link directly to your posts, but I'm afraid I haven't got the hang of doing that yet. I think MayBee's prediction of potential Gregg successors is great, and I'm going to try taking a walk through Commerce v House on the Census.

Sara (Pal2Pal)

TSK9: We heard a constant drumbeat about what a fantastic campaign Obama ran, compared to the way he is running things now. Was the campaign all that fantastic or is it more the press didn't dig or ask questions and we were led to believe something never truly verified?

glasater

Was interested to learn that Minnick (d-Idaho) voted against the stimulus bill. He is from my part of the country.
I didn't know him but his younger sister is a good acquaintance of mine. Very conservative family and it is no surprise he would be a blue dog. Bet he ran as a D against the R for expedient reasons.

Sue

DrJ - I knew somebody on here would see that pile of crap and dive in after the pony.

If you want a pony of your own, stimulate yourself here.

PaulL

Narciso,

Your blog entry looks pretty good. I didn't realize you liked Palin though?

Jane

Wow glasater,

I've never known anyone from Idaho before. I always thought that was a really cool state.

Topsecretk9

Sara

If you'll recall one ABC guy did finally print a piece saying the Obama team was horrible to the press and even compared the treatment of McCain and Bush's people - Obama's people were rude and if I recall the plane stunk too.

I tend to think they sucked and were not good at all but the media so mezmoed by their halo man were like a bunch of battered woman - willing to take it on the chin and prop him up to be near seamless in order to get him to win

Now with that they are unable to disguise incompetence in his team and the rough treatment they might start being real again.

I, like you, am not buying the whole perfection campaign and sudden meltdown. The press was covering.

Mustang0302

Excellent, bgates.

OT...

Anybody have any good links concerning the Sept '08 $550B Electronic Bank Run?

I'm still wading through various links to the same sources (the Kanjorski CSPAN vid).

Sorry if I missed a previous discussion.

JM Hanes

"Complete the Sequence" or as we like to call it: Find the Next Useful Idiot.

Sue

I'm seeing all over the internet where democrats are comparing Obama passing the stimulus with Bush and the patriot act. I had a distinct memory of John Kerry bragging on being the author of parts of the patriot act, before he was against it. And so, I went looking and sure enough

So does that mean he voted against it in 2001? Au contraire! Kerry voted for the law -- parts of which he originally wrote. He singled out its money-laundering sections for particular praise but declared that he was "pleased at the compromise we have reached on the antiterrorism legislation as a whole."
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/02/12/john_kerrys_shifting_stands/>Source

I was right. Republicans and democrats wrote the patriot act.

The Act was passed by wide margins in both houses of Congress and was supported by members of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_PATRIOT_Act>Source

I really, really hate the MSM. Really.

Way to go narciso!

I've always thought the comments you've posted here deserve a compendium of their own, and with paginated Typepad now sending the record down the memory hole, there's never been a better time for giving your remarkable stream of consciousness an independent home of its own. Congratulations on a successful launch, and thanks for using blogspot not Typepad!

For folks like PaulL though, you might want to actually mention Sarah's name in your 2nd pair of posts. :-) Can't believe I just wrote that, but there ya' go.

The Obama people threw people off the plane for any critical commentary. That's the way it's going to be under this clown. It's going to blow up in his face, though, and then the media will turn on him like a pack of rabid dogs.....you can fool all of the people some of the time....

I hope you read the article from the Baltimore Chronicle. It is filled with all kinds of links and info.

For example this jumped out:

Now, Markopolos was asked to compare the SEC and FINRA. His answer was short and pithy: the SEC is incompetent; FINRA is corrupt. (This was particularly interesting to me since I have been the victim of FINRA misbehavior.)

I was aware that President Obama had appointed one Mary Shaprio to be the new head of the SEC, replacing the clueless Christopher Cox. I also knew that Mary Shapiro's previous job was head of FINRA, where she was paid approximately $3 million per year, plus another $5-$25 million reward for her FINRA exit. So, we have here the chief of a corrupt regulatory body, being appointed to clean house at an incompetent regulatory body. She was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Mustang0302

Thanks, glasater.
