The story circulating among Hill Republicans is that Gregg wasn’t notified about the Census matter before the announcement, and that he demanded of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel a few days ago that the decision be reversed. I'm told that Emanuel said he would get back to him, but Gregg heard nothing. So he requested a meeting with the president and said he couldn’t be part of the Obama administration.
Why Jane, fancy meeting you here. Someone please put up an end of thread link before we get to fifty comments. Much gracious.

So they are voting now so nancy can go on her winter vacation. Does she get to go in her private taxpayer-paid plane.
Had lunch with 3 of our local reps today. (out of 200 reps we have 16 republicans - in the whole state one was there today.)
SO the dem woman who represents a nearby district talked at length how she deserved her pay raise because it is so hard figuring out how to split up our money.
Clueless. Completely clueless.
One of the speakers went on about how hard the times were, but we have hope now that the administration has changed, and that is gonna solve everything.
If the Obama/Reid/Pelosi troika continues its Western Europeanization of America, the next to resign may be Lady Liberty in New York Harbor. She will shrug and resign as the light of liberty is extinguished under the yoke of the leftist state.
I have to respectfully depart company from those JOMers who think Barack Hussein Obama is a tool for others. He is a ruthless leftist, and quite adept. He has moved America, in a few weeks, far closer to socialism than any Dem could have dreamed. His seeming missteps are irrelevant; by allowing Pelosi to draft the legislation, and by continuing to campaign on the resentment card, he gets what he wants while leaving the messy details to others. While MSM tut-tuts about how moderate the Obama Administration's foreign policy has been, Obama has moved America as close to a conciliatory internationalist position as is possible at the moment (hedging on European missile defense, grovelling language to the Persians, Biden's kissing Russian leaders' behinds).
On Monday, he will have the legislation he needs; the leftist camel's nose is under the tent of freedom, and so is one hump. Richardson, the "taxpaying challenged" former nominees and the one who made it to Treasury Secretary notwithstanding his tax foibles, the dustup over Gregg, the stammering at the Prez press conferences, Gibbs's horrible performances, these are mere details that are not going to derail the Zero Express unless GOPers find a unified voice and can use the media as Mr. Reagan did. They might start by focusing on one aspect at a time of Zero's Plan. Maybe call it the outrage of the day.
Notwithstanding my laments above, I am optimistic in the medium term. The Jacksonians are getting restless. And ultimately, American Leftists are no match for American Jacksonians. But it will get ugly for awhile.

He'll go for a Hispanic Business leader, and move the Census back to Commerce.
I don't think he's giving up on the census - he was smart enough to cozy up to the guy who could gerrymander Chicago for him early on, and he is not going to stop now. I bet you could find that somewhere in Alinsky's greatest hits.
A couple of those who didn't vote are representatives from the Buffalo area. I will excuse them for going home to deal with the needs of their community after the tragic plane crash.
Thanks for the link. It looks like Kennedy would have to overturn himself in order to switch away from the clear language regarding enumeration by actual count.
Here Here Thomas Collins!! I agree completely. Obama is what his history shows him to have always been: a far lefty. That combined with his hubris and the mask he wears to convince the country otherwise make him a very dangerous man.
So apparently O has decided to spend his presidency going directly to the people and bypassing the republicans. He doesn't need no stinking bi-partisanship. I guess if he keeps finding people houses and new jobs and pay raises, he will be okay.
Are the markets setting up for a sell on close? Got alot of news out there for a weekend: G7 meeting, an unknown Treasury plan, people will finally get to read porkulus...
Anyone out there have a favorite edition of Das Kapitol they would recommend. I want to give my kids a step up in the Brave New World we have all just entered.
Media starting to crack about Obama's tupperware like message manipulation machine...there were small grumblings in the way the Obama team treated the press like crap in comparison to Bush and McCain during the campaign, but they kept to a bare minimum in order to anoint the messiah
Now they're really getting pushed around and they're starting to squawk
I just heard that the bill has all kinds of handwritten margin notes and strikeouts, add ins and no one is seeing exactly the same thing and no one has read it.
I'm probably going to be adding updates to my Gregg post & would like to hat tip your screen names along with JOM when I do, if that's OK with you. Wish I could link directly to your posts, but I'm afraid I haven't got the hang of doing that yet. I think MayBee's prediction of potential Gregg successors is great, and I'm going to try taking a walk through Commerce v House on the Census.
TSK9: We heard a constant drumbeat about what a fantastic campaign Obama ran, compared to the way he is running things now. Was the campaign all that fantastic or is it more the press didn't dig or ask questions and we were led to believe something never truly verified?

I didn't know him but his younger sister is a good acquaintance of mine. Very conservative family and it is no surprise he would be a blue dog. Bet he ran as a D against the R for expedient reasons.
If you'll recall one ABC guy did finally print a piece saying the Obama team was horrible to the press and even compared the treatment of McCain and Bush's people - Obama's people were rude and if I recall the plane stunk too.
I tend to think they sucked and were not good at all but the media so mezmoed by their halo man were like a bunch of battered woman - willing to take it on the chin and prop him up to be near seamless in order to get him to win
Now with that they are unable to disguise incompetence in his team and the rough treatment they might start being real again.
I, like you, am not buying the whole perfection campaign and sudden meltdown. The press was covering.
I'm seeing all over the internet where democrats are comparing Obama passing the stimulus with Bush and the patriot act. I had a distinct memory of John Kerry bragging on being the author of parts of the patriot act, before he was against it. And so, I went looking and sure enough
So does that mean he voted against it in 2001? Au contraire! Kerry voted for the law -- parts of which he originally wrote. He singled out its money-laundering sections for particular praise but declared that he was "pleased at the compromise we have reached on the antiterrorism legislation as a whole."
I've always thought the comments you've posted here deserve a compendium of their own, and with paginated Typepad now sending the record down the memory hole, there's never been a better time for giving your remarkable stream of consciousness an independent home of its own. The Obama people threw people off the plane for any critical commentary. That's the way it's going to be under this clown. It's going to blow up in his face, though, and then the media will turn on him like a pack of rabid dogs.....you can fool all of the people some of the time....
So apparently O has decided to spend his presidency going directly to the people and bypassing the republicans. He doesn't need no stinking bi-partisanship. I guess if he keeps finding people houses and new jobs and pay raises, he will be okay.
Look at it on the bright side, Jane. Chairman O is going to provide great material for your show and web site!
The Buffalo News reports that prominent Orchard Park businessman Muzzammil Hassan, who founded a TV station to counter negative stereotypes of Muslims, has been charged with beheading his wife.
I hope you read the article from the Baltimore Chronicle. It is filled with all kinds of links and info.
For example this jumped out:
Now, Markopolos was asked to compare the SEC and FINRA. His answer was short and pithy: the SEC is incompetent; FINRA is corrupt. (This was particularly interesting to me since I have been the victim of FINRA misbehavior.)
I was aware that President Obama had appointed one Mary Shaprio to be the new head of the SEC, replacing the clueless Christopher Cox. I also knew that Mary Shapiro's previous job was head of FINRA, where she was paid approximately $3 million per year, plus another $5-$25 million reward for her FINRA exit. So, we have here the chief of a corrupt regulatory body, being appointed to clean house at an incompetent regulatory body. She was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
This seems to be a pattern. Just ask General Zinni
