When you wish upon
A star, born this very night.
Hide your eyes, for shame.
===========================

bad

I would be freezing. Perhaps she dresses for Barack's preferred thermostat settings.

clarice

Michelle still doesn't grasp the notion of ceremonial dress which suggests that she doesn't still understand the role of first lady--mostly being there, being uncontroversial and ladylike in the nicest meaning of the term.

When she starts wearing jackets I'll figure she's finally caught on.

bad

What's odd, Clarice, is that she has plenty of professional clothes. We've seen the photos, ad nauseum.

bad

Then again, she may suffer from intense hot flashes. Sleeveless is a good way to go in that case.

narciso

She's the legal counsel for a hospital making 300,000, don't tell me, she shops
ar JCrew for those.

Geezer Don Surber

"And is she comfortable as she looks in those skimpy tops, or is she actually freezing?"

If you cannot tell by looking at her bust, then the woman is not frezing.

BumperStickerist

It's a damn shame that we, as a people, cannot pay Michelle a salary for what she's doing for and to us.

.

bad

Tapper calls "sleeveless" Michelle's signature look.

MayBee

As with everything gushing about MO, the compliments in this article are just overdone.
Yes, she has lovely arms. But
"long, muscular arms"?
"It’s her arms that pop out, rippled and gleaming"
"super-sculpted arms"

no no no.
They are nice. They are not Linda Hamilton-esqe. They are not Angela Basset-like.

Why must everything be so superlative for them?

MayBee

She ruined the sleeveless dress at the convention with the cardigan. Last night the cardigan would have been perfect.

Why do we have to keep pretending she is fantabulous? She is attractive. She has some nice clothes.

BumperStickerist

$5 says that if Michelle visits the Pacific Northwest the headline will be:

Sleeveless in Seattle.

.

thankyouthankyou
tip your waitresses.

Sue

I especially liked the part where her and some friends split the cost of a trainer to save money. Still pretending they were poor when poor folks don't have trainers. Period. Or gym memberships.

bad

She made a mistake in referring to "Frank" as an awful or a bad name. Even if it is for a dog.

RichatUF

How about a Caption This contest?

HOPELESSNESS: These are the people running out economic and foreign policy.

FEAR: Any crisis worth doing, is worth doing drunk.

All I got.

bad

Rich, I'd start with:

The weasel and the ________

Just not sure what goes in the blank yet.

Pofarmer

Athletic?

Have they looked at her from the back?

Porchlight

bad, maybe she was channeling all those great things Barack told her about Frank Marshall Davis.

bad

Obama speech depresses even his cabinet. What chance does the market have?

bad

Good one, Porch.

Porchlight

Michelle works really hard to tone her upper arms, and then shows them off by going sleeveless. Why? Because it serves to draw the eye toward her best feature (I am going to decline to comment on what she may want to draw the eye *away* from). It's actually pretty smart, fashion-wise. It's just not very First Lady-ish.

Ranger

In other interesting news (via Drudge), the much lionized defender of the constitutional order, Robert Byrd, has sent a letter to Obama challenging the constitutionality of Obama's gaggle of deputy presidents (policy czars).

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/19303.html>Byrd: Obama in power grab

Now, if Byrd had said something like this:

“As presidential assistants and advisers, these White House staffers are not accountable for their actions to the Congress, to cabinet officials, and to virtually anyone but the president,” Byrd wrote. “They rarely testify before congressional committees, and often shield the information and decision-making process behind the assertion of executive privilege. In too many instances, White House staff have been allowed to inhibit openness and transparency, and reduce accountability.”

about the Bush administration it would have been front page news and lead every newscast for days.

sbw

Tapper: "Ted Kennedy has two water dogs of his own..."

[Insert joke in poor taste here.]

Porchlight

Thanks bad, and right back at ya. That picture of the Cabinet was priceless. Geithner looks confused, Hillary looks pissed. Par for the course.

bad

sbw, the man has no shame

Soylent Red

Freezing? Nah. She stays warm by basking in her smoldering disappointment in the country that gave her everything.

And Porch? It's her two axe handle ass she's trying to draw the eye away from. Or else her size eleven Basketball Jones feet.

Or perhaps the fact that she looks like she should be first mate on a spaceship smuggling droids and Jedi Knights.

bad

Mrs. Obama’s super-sculpted arms are the result of years of effort. When her children were young, she began working out with a personal trainer, splitting sessions with girlfriends to save money.

Its easy to tone your arms and be productive at the same time by doing the lawn work and trimming trees and shrubs. A mower, edger, trimmer, blower, rake, hand saw, etc. give a great work out.

Washing windows and cabinetry, and painting walls and woodwork are pretty effective as well.

And while children are young, tossing them around in play is toning, also. And much cheaper...

bad

Ranger, Byrd will be dismissed as a senile old racist.

Soylent Red

$5 says that if Michelle visits the Pacific Northwest the headline will be:

Sleeveless in Seattle.

Nope. The headline would be:

"Bigfoot Sighting!!"

Ranger

Ranger, Byrd will be dismissed as a senile old racist.

Posted by: bad | February 25, 2009 at 12:06 PM

I have no doubt, but the press just spent 8 years pumping him up as the man who must be listened to when it comes to executive power grabs.

Hart Williams

Wow. I thought civility was coughing up blood, but I severely misunderestimated the envy of the Loser Class, based on the near-universal tenor of the comments (although they're actually more bass).

But buck up:

Snarkolepsy CAN be cured in your miserable lifetimes. Please give generously to help "Jake's Kids."

PaulL

It would be racist and cowardly to have a frank discussion on Michelle's lack of fashion sense.

bad

BTW Ranger, someone comments under "Ranger" at Tapper but is an idiot lib.

It's always such a shock compared to your intelligent discussion.

Jane

Oh dear, I think Hart is looking for attention. His blog appears to be dying.

Rename it "Troll Heavan" Hart and they will come calling.

sbw

Hart, what a laugher. Snarkoleptic criticism of snarkolepsy. Troll!

Snark is the entertainment between substance around here. It clears the palate.

Stick around if you can contribute substance. Buzz off if you can't.

sbw

Soylent: Michelle... smoldering disappointment in the country that gave her everything.

Ouch!

On the mark!

MayBee

The more I think about this, the more I just groan.

Everything- everything with the Obamas must be overpraised.
He isn't just fit, he has chiseled pecs glistening in the sun.
Her arms aren't just toned, they are "super sculpted"
She doesn't just dress nicely, she is the new "fashion icon"
He isn't just intelligent, he is a great intellectual.
He doesn't just make great speeches, he is thrilling. Transformational.
They aren't just a happy couple, they are an inspiration.
She isn't just a mom, she is the mom-in-chief.

It is the same as watching all these over-praisy parents. Too much praise becomes it's own form of criticism, doesn't it?

bad

So right Maybee. Kids quickly catch on that it is all very hollow.

But will the Obamas?

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

I thought civility was coughing up blood...

Potty training these leftists is a never ending task.

No, Hart. Coughing up blood is decidely uncivil, so why don't you take your ejecta elsewhere until you can be trusted around the dinnerware and carpet?

Ranger

Soylent: Michelle... smoldering disappointment in the country that gave her everything.

The key word there is "given."

She was given an enrollment at Princton because her brother was an all star basketball player there, and he threatened to transfer if they didn't accept her.

And that is just the begining. It must be hard knowning deep down you have never really earned anything for yourself in life. Her anger at America is simply a pre-emptive deflection of any serious look at her own privlidged life.

Enlightened

Helen Thomas apparently slurs Jindal with a "slumdog millionaire" wisecrack?

Calling Rev. Al........chirp....chirp...chirp

And Katie Couric is also a coward - referred to Biden as "the white guy"?????????

Yo - Al! Come on big guy - there's race baitin' to do.......so much to do, so little...brain.

kim

Tenor, bass. Oh, I get it. What a scream. Got any more?
======================================

Enlightened

I hopelessly stuck on Ace's "Gilded Sasquatch" comment during the innaugural....I guess the Sharptard translation would be something like "she has Gold on her Big Feet" - ie: Racist!

SukieTawdry

I prefer Dave's take over at Ace:

First Lady Worf walks in, apparently wearing something from Vera Wang's Grimmace Collection. A possible embarrassment was avoided, as the USS Nimitz almost wore the same dress. lol

Wow, a personal trainer. But I thought the Obama's struggled so until that big book pay-off. Personal trainers, ballet lessons and arugula from Whole Foods--how did the woman manage.

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Look, after eight years of the McChimpy jokes it's time to admit something. George W does look kinda like a chimp.

By the same token let us also admit that Michelle Obama our new first lady and national sour puss looks not a little like Harry of Harry and the Hendersons.

bad

Ignatz, link to your first picture and tell me if resembles Bobby Jindal... a little

I know, I know...

bad

if Michelle resembles

Extraneus

She is attractive.

I'm willing to leave it at that, even though I don't see it. But it sure is interesting how, like MayBee says, *everything* about them has to be superlative.

He's not just an inexperienced, racist, Anti-American Marxist, he's Lincolnesque and Reaganesque!

Ignatz Ratzkywatzky

Ignatz, link to your first picture and tell me if resembles Bobby Jindal... a little

Maybe a tad. I was going to link to Zira who I think the pic much more closely resembles, but I'm not quite ready for the re-education camps yet.

Ranger

BTW Ranger, someone comments under "Ranger" at Tapper but is an idiot lib.

It's always such a shock compared to your intelligent discussion.

Posted by: bad | February 25, 2009 at 12:20 PM

Well, thats disconcerting (that someone is using the same name and spreading dreck with it). I haven't been wading through the comments there enough to notice. Thanks for the heads up, now I won't be shocked if I run across it.

bad

You're welcome, Ranger.

bio mom

Maybe it's my age but I don't like women with big upper arms, especially if they choose sleeveless dresses. And the older they get, the worse it looks. I can say this since I am also an older woman. Michelle should cover her upper arms. It is more feminine and attractive.

Extraneus

bio mom, who likes women with big upper arms, and why?

Porchlight

bio mom, I agree, but it's not just an older woman thing. I think that the First Lady's arms should be covered, period, unless it is a formal occasion or a very casual function in summer. Just as the President should wear a suit most of the time and of course at all official functions. Decorum and all that.

bad

Is Michelle a homophobe?

She thinks "Frank is an awful name, a bad name.

Barney Frank is a .....

clarice

Someone said they thought she was trying to ape Jackie O. I went thru the Google image thingy and can confirm what porchlight said about what is appropriate. The only time Jackie went sleeveless was formal events or outdoor summer events..

bad

Someone said they thought she was trying to ape Jackie O.

oh my....

sbw

Sophia Loren, at 75 and not looking bad, had the good sense to wear appropriate sleeves at the Oscars.

Amused bystander

Bad: maybe they are accuall? getting a Dachshund?

bad

lol amused, nothing like a weiner dog...

MaryD

Porchlight and Soylent Red, your analysis of the arm exposure is utterly brilliant! In an amazing coincidence, it totally matches what I've been telling my friends for weeks.

C.R.

Sbw,

Regarding Ted Kennedy's Portugese Water dog - his name is Splash. That is not a joke. LUN

folktunes

If you really want to piss a liberal moron off, just praise the boy king effusively.
"Oh my Gawd, did you hear President Obama? He took my breath away. He's really going to save us afterall. And he transforms time space and dimension!!! I've actually got ALL of his speeches on my IPOD!! It's awesome to have such a young attractive warm couple of charcter in charge after the last 8 years of abject hell. And the guy was brilliant in picking Mrs.Clinton to bring our country back to international respectability! FOUR MORE YEARS FOUR MORE YEARS"

Rick Ballard

I think that the First Lady's arms should be covered, period, unless it is a formal occasion or a very casual function in summer.

This would work out well. A simple, stylish wrap is always in style.

Anonymous 02.26.09

I'm beginning to think that the media overpraises BO and MO and FDs because the media want so badly to be hip and positive toward blacks. If MO and BO and FDs were white there wouldn't be this frenzy of praise. Sort of like asserting that one's best friend is a Negro -- these declarations of the superiority of all things Obama is a pathetic attempt to prove oneself unracist.

It's getting very old. Glisten Pecs and Upper Arm Role Model are all right people, but not what the media requires them to mean to us.

Anais

Am I the only one who thinks she is a gangly hulk-of-a-woman who walks like she's coming onto the field with the rest of the team? She is also in dire need of orthagnathic surgery to correct that underbite!

bad

Rick, my neighbor's thoroughbreds have a very stylish wardrobe as well.

clarice

I don't suppose she can do much about her bone structure and her family was undoubtedly too poor to get treatment for the underbite, and I think we spend too much time on women's appearances...after all one can never please everyone. I do think she needs to work on her attitude and that she needs a good stylist to teach her about proper attire for a first lady. This is an art that does not come naturally to many people--and she is one of those many.

Jane

I understand the next issue of People magazine will answer all your questions in the puff piece about her life in the White House. I'll be sure to miss you. Won't you join me?

centralcal

Jane: re: People . . . I am so there (in missing it.)

Clarice: You are very kind to Michelle and I have to take myself to task. It is easy to denigrate her appearance in a cheap shot kind of way. If she were a wonderful person, who came across as a really caring woman who was honored and humbled by her position as First Lady, perhaps, I wouldn't be so eagerly unkind.

However, she is not that kind of person - or, at least, hasn't shown that she is. So, it is easy to focus my dislike of her on her appearance, which in some instances does align. You know, the old (beauty, ugly) on the inside, showing itself on the outside.

Anyway, I could be much more charitable towards her, if she were exhibited a nicer, classier, persona.

torabora

One of Stalin's murdering henchmen, Nikolai Ezhov, has an amazing facial likeness to duh1.

Stalin referred to Ezhov as his "blackberry" before he too fell out of favor and was in turn murdered in the same soundproof slaughterhouse he built.

clarice

Well, he does in this picture, but not in most of the others I've seen:
http://totallylookslike.com/2008/11/30/nikolai-ezhov-totally-looks-like-barack-obama-2/>Totally Ezhov

Soylent Red

Well you know those socialists Clarice...they all look the same. I can never tell them apart.

bad

Powerline has a good take on Obama and his fixation on words as the solution to everything.

LUN

Pofarmer

Awww, jeez.

My kids scholastic book order form came with a listing for an "Inspirational Biography."

Michele Obama, the first lady.

Blech.

Pofarmer

But wait, it gets better. This month theres

Description
A photo-filled salute to America's children with words from President Obama's victory speech!

These are the people teaching your kids, folks.

kim

Nice link to Powerline, bad. This business of Obama's faith in the power of words is becoming a recurrent and obvious theme. Rove talks about it on the most current thread. It's a sort of hypnosis, but the self-hypnosis is the most delusionary. Truly, it's dangerous. I'm reminded of the shut-in, out on the street for once, pointing his channel changer at a gang of thugs.
